Ken Blackwell smacks down Steele: ‘Get to work — or get out of the way.’

During the campaign for chairmanship of the RNC, the candidate with the backing of far right conservatives wasn’t Michael Steele — it was former Ohio secretary of state Ken Blackwell. In response to Steele’s flip-flopping on abortion, Blackwell told conservative blogger Matt Lewis:

Chairman Steele, as the leader of America’s Pro-Life conservative party, needs to re-read the Bible, the U.S. Constitution, and the 2008 GOP Platform. He then needs to get to work — or get out of the way.

When Blackwell dropped out of the RNC race, he threw his support behind Steele. However, will he now instead be part of the Steele recall effort?

I lived in Ohio for a long time and watched Blackwell ascend to SecState. He is way more dangerous than Steele could ever be.

  2. NoMoreBush says:

Oh, boy, the other black dude in the Republican Party speaks. Who on November 5, 2004 would have ever believed that in 2008, we would witness the utter and rapid immolation of the Republican Party? (Hey, Rove-Pig — permanent Republican majority??? bwahahahahahaha)

I have a stomach from eating so much popcorn since November 4, 2006. Weeeeeeeeeeee Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!

Perhaps these goons will realize that bumper sticker slogans actually do not pass for ideas in the long term.

  3. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

wags, I am an Ohio now and you are absolutely correct about Blackwell. He bears watching, on the stage or behind.

    Dear Mr. Blackwell,
    Theocratic much?

  6. larkohio says:

Blackwell ran against Ted Strickland in the last governor’s race in Ohio. I thanked God and the voters when Strickland won. Blackwell wanted Steele’s current job, so I am sure he is trying his best to oust him. Seriously, Blackwell is a right wing nut case.

  7. wags says:

I didn’t know you were an Ohian, PLC. It seems we have quite a bit in common.

  8. Max-1 says:

    .

    So…
… Blackwell was (running) against Steele before he supported Steele and then jumped ship against Steele?

    That’s a double FLIP-FLOP!

  9. Anonymouse says:

I nominate Rush Limbaugh (or Ann Coulter or Michelle Malkin or Dan Savage or…) for RNC Chair.

I nominate Rush Limbaugh (or Ann Coulter or Michelle Malkin or Dan Savage or…) for RNC Chair.

As sad-yet-hilarious as that would be, I would, for once in my lifetime, like to have 2 rational, substantive parties that can work together like adults and actually get things done.

  11. nanlichi says:

    Dr. Mr. Blackwell,

WTF does the Bible have to do with this? Or anything else in the political realm? I await your prompt response.

    Fck you very much.

As bad as Steele is, Blackwell is way worse.

    last night was karaoke night

here at the buckeye club in cleveland.

ken got up and dedicated this song

    to mike steele:

    If I were your woman
    And you were my man
    You’d have no other woman
You’d be weak as a lamb
    If you had the strength
    To walk out that door
My love would overrule my sense
And I’d call you back for more

    If I were your woman
    If you were my woman
    If I were your woman
    If you were my woman
    And you were my man

    Yeah
    She tears you down Darling
    Says you’re nothing at all
But I’ll pick you up Darling
    When she lets you fall
    You’re like a diamond
And she treats you like glass
Yet you beg her to love you
    But me you don’t ask

    If I were your woman
    If you were my woman
    If I were your woman
    If you were my woman
    If I were your woman
    If you were my woman
    Here’s what I’d do
I’d never no, no stop loving you

    Yeah
    Life is so crazy
    And love is unkind
    Because she came first Darling
Will she hang on your mind
    You’re a part of me
And you don’t even know it
    I’m what you need
But I’m too afraid to show it

    If I were your woman
    If you were my woman
    If I were your woman
    If you were my woman
    If I were your woman
    If you were my woman
    Here’s what I’d do
I’d never, no, no, no stop loving you

    If I were your woman
    Here’s what I’d do
I’d never, never, never stop loving you
    If I were your woman
    You’re sweet lovin’ woman

    If you were my woman
    If I were your woman
    If you were my woman
    If I were your woman
    If you were my woman
    I’d be you’re only woman

    …you’d need no other woman

Blackwell to Steele: “Get to work– or get out of the way!” Steele hasn’t done nearly enough work disenfranchising voters, rigging elections, or destroying ballots. He really needs to get on the stick. You can’t disrupt the election process on a moments notice, you know. It takes planning, teamwork and lots of manpower. Steele has been in office for several weeks, now, and hasn’t even hired a goon squad.

    Dr. Mr. Blackwell,

Unfortunately, everything in Blackwell’s view. He has ties to Rod Parsley, to name one very “out there” fundaMENTAL Christian.

  16. 5th Estate says:

During the 2004 election Blackwell closed a couple of Ohio voting districts because of ‘terrorist threats’, and locked the voting machines away. (sorry I don’t have a link, I’m just remembering it now).

  17. lokidog says:

I think lil’ Kenny is pissed he doesn’t have a big blue bus with his picture on it, like Mikey.

Blackwell and Steele: The Chris Brown and Rhianna of wingnuttery.

  18. hellinabucket says:

If Steele is what ails the GOP, Blackwell is not the cure.

  19. NoMoreBush says:

#9 I think you mean Michael Savage, as Dan Savage is that adorable and buff gay boy from Seattle who is about as LEFT as LEFT can be. But we know what you mean.

  20. tko says:

Any chance Blackwell had anything to do with voting shenanigans in Ohio in 2004, sort of like Katharine Harris in Florida in 2000?

  21. wags says:

#9 I think you mean Michael Savage, as Dan Savage is that adorable and buff gay boy from Seattle who is about as LEFT as LEFT can be. But we know what you mean.

Haha, I always get their names mixed up too.

However, Dan Savage would do wonders for the party as chairman. Just think how fabulous they’d all look.

  22. wags says:

Something to do? Pretty much everything to do…

  23. tko says:

5th Estate at #17, I should have read the comments first. You answered my question. Thanks

  24. Canny55 says:

I suppose by the Constitution, he means “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”? What a joke. He only selectively uses an ambiguous quote from our documents to make it seem as though it supports Christianity, and then excludes the “liberty” and “happiness” parts when he’s fear-mongering over loving same-sex individuals.

  25. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

To avoid confusion, refer to Michael Savage not by this his radio name, but by his real name, Michael Weiner. So much better!

  26. larkohio says:

5th Estate, I think that happened in Warren or Butler County near Cincinnati. I have always thought that he threw the 2004 election to Bush. He was kind of like our very own Katherine Harris.

  27. tombaker says:

Others went to jail in OH, but Blackwell escaped justice.

That GOP clown car just never runs out of clowns, does it?

  28. shoeless says:

    …Bible, the U.S. Constitution, and the 2008 GOP Platform…

Those three sources are contradictory. If Steele tries to use all three, he will really be confused!

  29. spencers mom says:

Instead of a Chair, perhaps the RNC can just get one of those big sectional sofas with recliners, cupholders and a built-in cooler. Then they’d have room for all of today’s “leaders” to sit back and criticize while providing no ideas or solutions.

    PEACE

  30. NoMoreBush says:

When can we expect the apology to Jabba the Rush?

  31. Max-1 says:

    #22 wags,

Haha. As a transplant from Ohio to PA, I sincerely apologize to the nation for these two yokels.

  33. The Dogfather says:

Maybe Michelle Bachmann will show up soon kneeling down before Blackwell and chanting “Ken Blackwell — you be da man!” After all, Steele must not be “da man” — he gots no cojones…

  34. wags says:

Oh and Steve Chabot. I’ve never had the misfortune of meeting a bigger sleazeball. And he was from my district…

  35. pete says:

    I just love this stuff.

I’m, almost, starting to feel sorry for Steele. While the dregs of the GOP have been assembling their circular firing squad he staked out the center. (NOTE: The center of a circular firing squad is an awful place to be.)

But, the best part is, that it proves any dissent is not tolerated. The GOP just continues to reject any voice of moderation or compromise. Only extremists need apply.

Ya know? I’m actually starting to think a viable third party could arise from this mess.

  36. avchavis says:

Yeah, Blackwell is what the GOP needs – just another rightwingcrazymadhatter! What’s the Bible got to do with this mess?! Maybe Blackwell needs to have a conversation with John McCain’s daughter! LOL

  37. Zimzone says:

This reminds me of when Kraemer got the Merv Griffin TV show set out of a dumpster. You know…

    -The whole thing smells

    -People talking, no one listening

-The Host looking to bring up dirt on each other

-Hawks & Squirrels in the same room

    -Non-existent ratings

  38. SP Biloxi says:

“However, will he now instead be part of the Steele recall effort?”

Is a bean green? I wouldn’t put it pass Blackwell to throw Steele to the wolves. I have to agree with comment #1. Blackwell is much more dangerous than Steele. Steele is weak and Blackwell knows it. And Steele bowing down to the chief gas bag of radio really showed Blackwell that Steele is useless in the rebuilding of the GOP party.

  39. RUCerious says:

Mr. Steele, meet your new friend, Mr Bus Axle.

  40. fletc3her says:

Are the Republicans pro-life, really? I thought I read that the chairman of the RNC was pro-choice. Seems like a weird choice.

  41. maxamillion says:

WOW!!!! Now you got the only black people in the “Repuke-Party” getting after each other. I LIKE IT!!!

  42. kasinca says:

Blackwell thinks he isn’t a token because he is an accomplice to the crimes of KKKarl Rove in Ohio in 2004 presidential election. I have news for him…color matters to much of the GOP.

  43. Wannabekool says:

    Fellow Ohioans and the rest:

I remember that fellow Blackwell. A theocrat who delivered Ohio to Bush in 2004, just as he promised as head of the group working for Bush. And he was Secretary of State! How delicious for him and the other pubbies.

Be careful. He hides his theocracy under a faux mantle of intelligence and common sense.

  44. Hoodathunk says:

The way the Republicans are headed their ‘chairman’ will be able to sit and read the Bible in private on the platform of their one holer out behind the pig sty. The Constitution will be there too, right next to the corn cob, courtesy of Mr. Bush.
