Ann Coulter’s book sales down.

By Matt Corley on Mar 13th, 2009 at 11:12 am

Ann Coulter’s book sales down.

Earlier this year, “offensive” conservative author Ann Coulter launched yet another media tour to promote her latest book. But it apparently doesn’t appear to be working. According to Portfolio’s Jeff Bercovici, Coulter’s book sales are down:

But with it moving steadily down the best-seller list, it looks certain that Guilty will fall far short of matching her earlier results. Her 2006 polemic, Godless: The Church of Liberalism, sold 279,100 copies in hardcover, according to BookScan; Treason: Liberal Treachery from the Cold War to the War on Terror, published in 2003, sold 396,600 hardcover copies, and 2002’s Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right, sold 333,100 copies, plus another 108,300 in paperback. (The two other books she published over that period, How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must) and If Democrats Had Any Brains, They’d Be Republicans, are both collections rather than original works, so I left them out for the sake of apples-to-apples comparison.)

“Could it be that Barack Obama’s America has a smaller appetite for Coulter’s brand of take-no-prisoners, obey-no-logic conservatism?” asks Bercovici. (HT: Huffington Post)

Of the 23%-ers, less than half can read at a 3rd grade level.

    Her “market” is saturated.

So what else would we expect?

  2. The Dogfather says:

Apparently, the RNC, Moral Majority, NRA, FauxSnooze and CNBC must be buying fewer books this year, driving Mann Coulter’s sales way down…

  3. DNFP says:

    Stop the presses!

    That’s the idea, fcukwit.

  4. paleolib says:

With Fox “News” ratings heading up as the wingnut closet cases convinced Obama is a gay-Muslim-communist flock to hear Beck preach about the end of days her sales should be stable or rising. I have to assume either (1) that the nutters have become so dumbed down that they have lost their limited ability to read; (2) that enough wingers have lost their jobs that they aren’t patronizing the Fox book store like they used to; or (3) that some of them have figured out that she has been spewing the same hateful screed for nearly a decade now without adding anything new. Any of those are fine with me although I find #3 the least likely.

  5. misshusseinmolly says:

It’s also possible that the groups who buy her books by the pallet-load in order to inflate her sales have fallen on hard times — enough where they have had to cut back.

  6. Lora says:

I am about to cry some crocodile tears.

    ______________

Didn’t James Dobson and his Focus on the Family group in Colorado have to lay off staff after they dumped so much money into California’s Prop 8 election?

Gee…, w/ folks deserting the evangelical churches’ ranks these days, those poor fundies just might end up… well.. POOR!

I said her books weren’t selling last week when she tried to ridicule Keith Olbermann’s education. I knew she was trying to get free publicity indirectly through Keith. Screw her Keith…just ignore her.

  10. pax says:

How does her decline in book sales compare to the overall decline in sales as a result of the economy?

    Nice, Dr. Matt Hussein.

Yet more evidence that wingnut-welfare is drying up. Heritage can’t afford to buy pallet-fuls of books to boost sales.

  17. norbizness says:

That is surprising considering that it seems that TP gives her frequent publicity.

for the sake of apples-to-apples comparison

I bet this has nothing to do with the down economy. TP produces more hard hitting evidence indicating conservatism is a thing of the past. Keep up the phenomenal work!

60% is a bit high to blame on the economy. Is any other retail area seeing a 60%+ decline in business?

  35. DRxJ says:

    Klatu,
I’ll challenge you each and every time on this.
First, don’t throw stones in glass houses when you accuse others of being money hungry Jews on another thread.
Second, mAnn Coulter has called me godless (I’m a Christian), without a brain (I own my own pharmacy), heartless (I help in the mental health community, as well as certain charities), clueless (I choose my political beliefs based on experience and direction, and challenge it when appropriate), among other false attacks.
She’s called for execution of opponents, she’s glorified the Oklahoma City bomber, she’s ridiculed politicians…etc.
All without repercussions, all without an inkling of an apology.
And as much as I try to refrain from personal attacks, she (and the likes of Oxybreath) will not escape my wrath of justifiable critique.
    Got it?
    Good.
    Now STFU!

  36. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

The RNC and other conservative groups are running out of money and have decided to spend what they have on trying to regain congressional seats rather than buying pallets of Coulter’s books. Too bad so sad for Mann Coulter.

  37. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

    norbizness Says:
That is surprising considering that it seems that TP gives her frequent publicity.

And how is TP “giving her frequent publicity” going to help the sales of her book? Do you really think that anyone other than the trolls on this site would be caught dead buying a MAnn Coulter book?

  38. nanlichi says:

    Klatu,

Ann is an evil ugly mean person whose schtick is to be divisive and belittle others. When I call her skinny skank and a hateful c*nt, I just say it to belittle her.

Well, I guess my little game of “Turn Ann’s Book Around so the cover doesn’t show” has made an impact.

I kid you not, I do really, every time I see one, turn it around so the back cover shows.

    Just doing my part.

  43. Cal Malenky says:

A lot of those inflated “sales figures” are derived from bulk purchases by winger groups to give to their members as gifts. Maybe there’s less money available to do it now.

It’s not really “news” since we saw it coming. But it is comforting confirmation of the downriver flush of wingnuttia.

  48. DaTruth says:

We’re so sick of the Trans-sexual witch. Her rhetoric is so played out, all he/she does is criticize. What else is new about him/her?

  49. VinnieTheSnake says:

I think I need to stop reading the Think Progress blog. It has become boring in the extreme. Not many comments worth reading. Mostly one poster being nasty to another poster.
And, yes, I agree, Ann Coulter gets a lot of attention on this site, and her lack of sales for this book is probably caused more by the economy than by losing fans from the Right.

  50. ralph the wonder llama says:

Sorry to see you go, VinnieTheSnake.

Thanks for your constructive comments. We’ll take them under advisement.

    Godspeed.

  51. mongo says:

Gee, ann’s book sales are down.

Since all the sales of her previous books were driven by the “wingnut welfare” circuit of the American Enterprise Institute, Project for a New American Century, American Conservative Union, and others of their ilk, this simply reflects the changing financial fortunes of the republic party.

These shill organizations would shell out $millions in order to buy the coultergeist’s books by the pallet-load (as well as o’lielly’s, beck’s, ingraham’s, the list goes on) then give them away for free at CPAC and other republic party and conservative gatherings. Then the book could always be touted as a “NYT Bestseller!” with the added implication that its trenchant analyses were even acknowledged by that bastion of the far-left media, the New York Times.

This has been standard practice for at least as long as kkkarl has been involved in the party.

This should be a wake-up call to publishers: take this kind of dreck out of the conservative life-support system created by conservative think tanks and actually let the market decide on the value of the publication and you will see how the market actually values it.

I would no more pay $15+ for such a book than I would for a fire log–and they are both only suited for the same purpose.

Why do trolls never understand that this is a BLOG. It’s not a newspaper.

    Get over it.

  53. DRxJ says:

Not that it matters, but for me, at least, I’m pretty satisfied at home and don’t need alternative recreational pleasures to curb my urges.
Not sure if that’s what biranda is peddling, because I ain’t clicking it’s link, but, if biranda really want’s the hits, may I suggest any right wing blog? Or a Republican National Convention?

  54. Max-1 says:

    .

I’d make other “SLUMPING” jokes about Ann but I don’t want to be accused of Witch bashing.

    .

  55. Joe the Philosopher says:

Now, if we can only get Ann Coulter’s pants down.

  56. curious says:

Why anyone would buy her stuff is beyond me. It is all the same kind of writing. Regurgitated rhetoric. Same things said time after time. No new insight into anything. All she has to do is change the book title each time.

  57. Marie says:

Her audience is dwindling – those who are her fans and are literate are fewer in number – others are simply tired of the same old trash she talks. She is more of a stand up comedian, like Dennis Miller. He’s not so popular any more either.

  58. SP Biloxi says:

    “Ann Coulter’s book sales down.”

In translation: No one is buying Mann Coulter’s book. Look for her book to be in the dollar store coming soon.

  59. EugeneDebs says:

I’m thinking that after buying her first TWO books her fans finally realized they cant READ.

  60. barrelhse says:
