Meghan McCain responds to Laura Ingraham’s insults: ‘Please stop talking about my body.’

Yesterday, ThinkProgress reported that right-wing radio talker Laura Ingraham attacked Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) daughter, Meghan, by mocking her as “plus-sized.” McCain responded yesterday on Twitter, telling Ingraham to “stop talking about my body“:

In a follow-up tweet, McCain wrote: “To all my girls out there. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad about your body! I love my curves and you should love yours too!.”

I’m actually kind of liking Meghan McCain lately. She seems to have a level head on her shoulders.

  2. Buford says:

Amazingly insightful political discourse from the Right.

  3. larkohio says:

I saw what Laura said and it was just awful. Meghan McCain is a beautiful young woman, although I disagree with her politics. I think Ingraham was way out of line here. Meghan was right about what she said about Ann Coulter. Laura Ingraham should have kept her big mouth shut. It was mean spirited. We all do not have to be a size 2.

  4. fletc3her says:

This is kind of a trifecta of bad blogging. First, it has nothing to do with progressive issues. Republican infighting is funny, but does nothing to promote a positive agenda. Second, you are reporting about “tweets”. Is every quip from a Republican going to be news now simply because they post it on the flavor of the month Web site? Third, this story is boring. Laura Ingraham is a twit. Meghan McCain is a twit. I imagine they are both promoting books or something and hope this manufactured battle will help keep them in the media eye.

  5. deebaser says:

Laura should look around the office at Fox. Cuvuto, Hume, Krauthammer, and the morning Zoo crew aren’t exactly 10s either.

  6. deebaser says:

Actually I withdraw my previous comment and will now throw in with fletc3her. Twitter is horrible

  7. deebaser says:

On second thought.. I withdraw my withdrawal and will register with twitter to tweet Meghan McCain “Laura is lamezorz. Id tap that. LOLOLOLOL”

If everyone’s riding the twitter shortbus, I might as well take a trip too.

  8. mk3872 says:

How about instead the McCains should help US to point out how vile and incendiary Ingraham, Coulter, Limbaugh & Hannity are?

The McCains look like a bunch of saps for not hitting these loons for such insults.

  9. muzz says:

I watched the interview a couple of night ago with Rachel and Meghan. While I don’t understand her love afair with the rethugs, she comes off as someone who you could at least talk to.

With that being said, that attitude just sets the reich-wingers off on a slash/burn/destroy mission. Just get a few sound bites from Ingrham, Beck, Limpbutt, OReilley, and even Chuck Norris and you can see that the republican party needs a massive enema.

  10. hanshiro says:

Considering Laura’s past medical history, it’s surprising indeed that she is displaying a staggering lack of tact and sensitivity by citing another woman’s appearance.

  11. thinkthinkthink says:

Why is this worth blogging about? Isnt this stuff left for People magazine and tmz.com?

  12. tombaker says:

Ralph, I’d tend to agree re: Ms McCain, but isn’t it kind of odd she’s held out as a “political” figure, yet she has not much of substance to say about anything political? With JohnnyMac’s schedule, it really is doubtful she’s just picked it up over the dinner table. Paris Hilton would be better suited to manage a hotel than Ms McCain is to serve in government.

If you ask me, she’s serving as another kind of Sarah Palin – she’s cute, and personable, etc., and that’s it – that’s all she’s supposed to bring to the table, and she’s given a seat at the table – wtf? Why don’t I just pick a gal off the local varsity volleyball team and call her “the voice of young, moderate Republicans?

  14. tombaker says:

@11 – a great big 10-4 to you. The Laura-Meghan feud is HuffPo material at best.

  15. lurkmode says:

All of this Republican infighting makes me horny.

By the way Laura, Meghan McCain is so much hotter than your skanky a$$ … I detect some jealousy.

  16. Danny Noonan says:

Good for Meghan. This is beyond ideology. Ingraham owes a public apology.

… Resort to attacking a person’s size, race, gender, orientation.

    You know…
… Channel trollish behavior, Right Laura?

I’m just amazed that Laura exposed herself as a TROLL of the MSM.

  18. P.D. says:

Is Meghan the only sane Republican around? Oh, and by the way, let Ingrahm insult her. Millions of American women have bad body issues. The Dems should play Ingrams remark at election time, and see how many women will vote for Repugs whose followers and mouthpieces insult them. Christ!

  19. lpeggy says:

Yes, Meghan appeared relatively sane on Rachel Maddow’s show. But I caught her act on Hannity’s show the night before, and she was totally different, and agreed with Hannity on most things bashing President Obama. So which one is the real Meghan?

  20. ctcadguy says:

Does Laura Ingram think men like skinny women?

Hello Laura – ever hear of Miss Monroe?

  21. Cal Malenky says:

Minus-sized brain Ingraham is vicious to anyone who doesn’t agree with her.

  22. A simple man says:

What is this highschool? Hey meghan, you’re fat! Sue me.

  23. misshusseinmolly says:

It’s true this whole story is pure cotton candy. No real substance or nutrition, but kind of compelling in small amounts (still, you don’t want to consume too much).

While partaking of my small serving today, I did notice that Meghan managed to criticize Ann Coulter without saying anything about her physical appearance (the closest she got was mentioning her “extreme” voice — along with Coulter’s other extremes). So I figure she’s entitled to smack Laura down for resorting to cheap shots about size.

  24. Buckie Boy says:

Old saying about full figured gals -

Meat is for the Man – Bone is for the Dog

and yes I like a fuller gal, no bones for me.

  25. SharksBreath says:

Meghan: I like your curves to. Nothing wrong with a PAWG.

  26. TheDailyBanter.com says:

Meghan McCain is way hotter than “Skeletor” Ingraham.

If Ingraham wants to pick a fight about it, I’m sure she’ll find that most men find a naturally beautiful girl like Meghan McCain way more attractive. Being comfortable in your own skin is what matters.

  27. The Republic of Stupidity says:

    A simple man Says:

What is this highschool? Hey meghan, you’re fat! Sue me.
    ____________

Hey simple man, you’re stupid. Bite me!

  28. APEC not OPEC says:

This convert to Catholicism should be spending her off air time in a confessional. She started adoption proceedings of a young girl from Guatemala last year. Just think of the hateful atmosphere the child will grown up in.

  29. ragtimepiano says:

Smarmy, Laura, exceedingly smarmy. Yes, most men would find the naturally blonde, young Meghan more attractive than those who insult her. I don’t agree with the politics of either women, but in defense of Ingraham’s jealous attack, I feel compelled to point out that Ingraham’s voice would cut glass and would never be labelled “attractive” by any man.

  30. biranda says:

    chat

    thanks you tskler ok sana

  31. Del Capslock says:

The right wing has taken their best shot at dressing up unbridled self interest as some kind of legitimate political and social movement, and it is at long last being exposed for what it is. Between the spewings of Limbaugh, Coulter, Ingraham, Hannity, and their dwindling army of surrogates, they are on the fast track to permanent irrelevance. Good riddance!

  32. ralph the wonder llama says:

Y’know, it’s getting harder and harder to tell the difference between posts from trolls like A simpleton and automated spam from porn sites.

They make as much sense. Maybe the porn site uses better spelling.

  33. ragtimepiano says:

I just researched Ingraham’s background…must say, Laura, I am sorry for you, childless at 45, unmarried, with a sad medical history…I truly am sorry but still you must restrain your jealousies.

  34. tombaker says:

…both have a lot of boobs associated with them.

  35. DaveG says:

I too, disagree with much of Meghan McCain’s politics, but totally agree with her tact. She’s very tasteful in her delivery and conversation, unlike the rest of her party of the soulless. Laura Ingraham is just like Coulter…a skinny, angry twit, bent on Fing things up for everyone with their hate filled divisiveness.

  36. hussein toasterhead says:

In a follow-up tweet, McCain wrote: “To all my girls out there. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad about your body! I love my curves and you should love yours too!.”
    __________

Ok so in my initial reading of this, I thought it was John McCain tweeting about his curves.

    *hurk*

  37. Purple State says:

To be fair, Laura did this with the ulterior motive of becoming significant in some sort of public forum again.

To be even fairer, if “plus-sized” means “not Ann Coulter”, big is beautiful!

  38. lefty says:

Ingraham is an old fing hag

  39. misshusseinmolly says:

Isn’t it interesting to note that Meghan exhibits manners? Even in her tweet, she says “please”.

Whatever else one might say about John and Cindy McCain, it’s difficult to refute that their daughter appears to have been brought up well.

  40. J. Fred Smug says:

This is a no-brainer: “Conservatives” and Rethugs are all about quid pro quo and “giving as good as one gets.” You know, the usual elementary school playground sh*t. Ingraham’s body criticism of Meghan McCain was actually a way for Ingraham to passive-aggressively defend Ann Coulter, who had been criticized by Meghan the previous day. In other words, Ingraham has Coulter’s back.

All of these individuals would benefit from a serious 24/7 program of psychotherapeutic intervention.

  41. Zooey says:

I don’t agree with much of what she says, but Meghan has class.

If calling Meghan “plus-sized” is all Ingraham’s got, she better be worried.

  42. J. Fred Smug says:

    ragtimepiano Says:

I just researched Ingraham’s background…must say, Laura, I am sorry for you, childless at 45, unmarried, with a sad medical history…I truly am sorry but still you must restrain your jealousies.

Actually, Ingraham has an adopted daughter (from Guatemala), named Maria. She speaks of her regularly on her radio show. In true hypocritical Conservative/Rethuglican fashion, therefore, she is an unwed mother/single parent and is raising her daughter without a father. But certainly don’t dare to challenge her on these points. The damned liberals are to blame for all of her problems.

May God have mercy on that poor child of hers.

  43. pete says:

I couldn’t care less about Ms. McCain. If she were sane, and honest, she wouldn’t be a Republican. However…

I didn’t know that vicious (bleep) Ingraham actually has the unmitigated gall to seek to adopt a child while screeching her “conservative family values” crap. How can she campaign against alternative lifestyles while she, a single woman with a history of cancer, seeks to adopt? What are the odds that she would support the efforts of a happy, healthy, stable gay couple to adopt?

  44. CyberDem in IL says:

So much for “christian” values. I saw Rachel Maddow’s interview and, while she didn’t pitch softballs, she was kind and respectful to Ms McCain. It says a lot for the Progressives that they know how to treat people.

  45. ucsbclassics53 says:

It’s good for someone to finally call out the mindless wingnuts with their knee-jerk, non-thinking ad hominem attacks. Ingraham has no argument so she has to resort to that…it was so damn predictable…

  46. Tallygirl says:

“Oh yeah, well I may be fat but you’re ugly and I can lose weight!”

That’s what my mother told me to say when I was a fat kid.

I’ve found that a good “FU, loser” works well these days.

  47. MrBrown says:

Hey, rightwingnut trolls, I dare you to try to defend what “Woody Woodpecker” Ingraham said about Meghan…

  48. Progressive Veteran says:

Maybe Meghan should have pointed out Laura’s horse-like manface. I don’t think I would put down Meghan’s looks if I looked like an anorexic meth addict.

Not to mention everything that comes out of her mouth is uglier than her face.

  49. curious says:

Actually Meghan is a beautiful girl. Her politics stink but she seems to be alright. There is little to say about Coulter that has not already been said. She is an old, brown, dried up stick of a woman. She has an adams apple the size of a golf ball. She is really a man etc. All very true.

But the worst of it is: she is mean, spiteful, unethical, lacking in kindness, a one trick pony and with no real insight, and with no credible ideas or originality. If she had a thought, it would die of loneliness.

I myself say all these bad things about her in the spirit of candor of course. I don’t have a mean spiteful bone in my body. My plus size body.

I understand she is hot in universities as a lecturer. They want to see what a real freak of nature looks like.

  50. 4httr says:

She was just doing her best Ann Coulter imitation. Throw the hate out there in shotgun fashion, it’s sure to get her the attention she craves.

  51. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

    From Wikipedia:
Ingraham once was engaged to conservative author and fellow Dartmouth alumnus Dinesh D’Souza and has dated former New Jersey Democratic Senator Robert Torricelli [9] as well as MSNBC host Keith Olbermann.

Keith Olberman actually dated this witch. Ewwww… I would love to hear him talk about that.

  52. oldstyle81 says:

People only go so low when they have nothing else to go on. Meghan in my opinion is beautiful

  53. realchange44 says:

curious, really, you cannot challenge her thoughts? You just decide to insult her? I thought you were above that. She has some spiteful thoughts, but has a right to say what she believes, as do you. I just thought that you would be bigger than her…

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Why? Why take a knife to a gunfight? Why limit ourselves to the highground and leave the exclusive franchise on personal attacks to conservatives? That didnt work out too well for us liberals the first decade or so when we ignored Coulter Limbaugh and the like. Also you pose a false premise. Why dont we challenge her thoughts. As IF she posed actual points of debate or of positions to argue. She didnt. She simply spews venom. What is our obligation to NOT return serve. She sends it out she gets it back what exactly is WRONG with that. I guess for those who WANT to emulate Ghandi they can but I disagree those who think its time to fight fire with fire are doing anything wrong.

  55. Molly says:

The Republics are determined to pull the dirt on top of them after digging a deep deep hole. New frontiers for self destructive behaviors. They all seem to be doing it. Michale Steele , Rush Limbo, and Rahm Emmanuel for not actually vetting the new administration.

  57. rfaivre says:

Meghan I hope you are reading this!
Don’t let that crazy woman get to you! You are a smart beautiful young woman. Just keep your head and say what is on your mind. I’m a deomcrat but I respect YOU! I think you are truly the voice for the new Republican party and you want to know something else? All these right winged uber conservative nuts should be taking notes on what you have to say! Keep up the good work. I love reading your blogs. I think you are beautiful and it makes me sick to hear someone stoop so LOW as Ingraham did and hit below the belt and attack your intellect and your weight Laura is rude, and dissrespectful!
    So you go Meghan!!!!
