Rove Hypocritically Accuses Gibbs Of Sounding ‘Like Some Wise-Cracking Junior High Smart Mouth’

On Sunday, former Vice President Cheney said that President Obama has already made America more unsafe. When Press Secretary Robert Gibbs was asked for his reaction to Cheney’s criticisms, Gibbs dryly said that CNN invited the former VP because “Rush Limbaugh was busy,” labeling him “the next most popular member of the Republican cabal.”

Apparently, Gibbs’s remarks were beyond the pale for Karl Rove. Yesterday, on the O’Reilly Factor, Rove denigrated Gibbs, comparing him to “some wise-cracking junior high smart mouth.” “These are real issues,” Rove urged, complaining about Gibbs’s “tone”:

ROVE: What surprised me was frankly the tone of Mr. Gibbs, who sounded like some wise-cracking junior high smart mouth. And it would have been better both for Obama and for the country if Mr. Gibbs had, if he felt it necessary to respond, responded on the merits of the issue rather than, you know, putting such a heavy emphasis on his little sarcastic flip comment. Because these are real issues. These are real issues.

Watch it:

Rove’s holier-than-thou attitude is particularly hypocritical. It is Rove who has launched characteristically sleazy ad hominem attacks on his opponents. It is Rove who is planning to “name names” and single out Bush critics in his new book. And it is Rove who makes “sarcastic flip comments” about his rivals that make him sound like a “junior high smart mouth”:

– Echoing a right-wing smear, Rove called Obama “almost Marxian.”

– Referred to then-Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) as a “big blowhard doofus.”

– Slandered critics of President Bush as “elite, effete snobs.”

Of course, when Rove called his political opponents “Marxian,” “doofus,” and “snobs,” he was talking about the “real issues.”

they are also all four letter words

  4. buzzbomb says:

What is all the uproar over Gibbs’ comments? I for one thought it was refreshing. Way better than the pathetic double-speak every other politician engages in. Think Rove and Cheney are F^ckers? Say so!

  5. ralph the wonder llama says:

Rove: it would have been better both for Obama and for the country if…

Yeah, about that, Karl… I don’t think the President cares what you think would be better for him, and we sure don’t care what you think would be better for the country.

You had your shot. You fu(ked it up. Big time. So go Cheney yourself.

  6. Marie says:

OT — I don’t want to think about the pig, Rove. This is more relevant news.

After today’s meeting between veteran advocacy leaders and the Obama administration, the White House announced that it will be abandoning a plan to make veterans use private insurance for war-related injuries.People

People get their shorts in a bunch just because Obama brings up a topic — it doesn’t mean he supports it — he means, he wants to have a discussion.

This coming from the guy who sarcastically smirked while on the phone learning George Bush had ‘won’ the 2004 election knowing damn well he and his Thugs stole it in the middle of the night when Americans were sleeping!

They’re basically hiding from the citizens of the planet, which is excellent, because my wish for George Bush on January 20, 2009 was he either go to prison or spend the rest of his days looking over his shoulder! I’m feeling good at least one of my wishes is happening. ;-)

Why would we expect any less from him now? He’s like the pot calling the kettle black. I don’t think there has been anyone in history more prolific at name calling than good ‘ole Turd.

  39. aquarius2 says:

Schuster made a statement concerning Rove’s hypocrisy and had invited Rove on to dispute it. Rove never replied and then one day Schuster gets a tweet from Rove, saying he was in his book.

I don’t know about anyone else but I am very tired of Bush apologists criticizing this administration. Bush doesn’t have to say a word about Obama, he has Rove, Card, Cheney, Fleisher, Perrino, and a ton of others out there everyday.

  41. Chocolate Jesus says:

“the merits” of cheneys statements are so utterly bereft of validity that they almost dont even need to be addressed..we will be greeted with flowers, we know saddam has nukes and wmd, the insurgenecy is in its “final throes”…Karl, if your reading this, please, next time your on tv flapping your yap, please remind us of ONE thing cheney has been right about. EVER. fact is, not only is torture illegal and unconsitutional, its almost invariably counterproductive. we’ve had a high ranking member of the us military saying there was a huge uptick in attacks against our troops in iraq after the abu gharib torture scandal…

IF in the one in a billion chance a ticking timebomb scenario actualy exists, then a jury will find the heroic torturer not guilty, or a president will pardon him. What cheney really wants is for people like him to be able to torture anyone, at anytime..cheney doesnt want torture to be illegal because if its legal under any circumstances, he or people like him can order the torture of anyone without consequeneces…if torutre is illegal and we rely on juries to make the decision as to find “just torturers” innocent, then people like cheney cant order torture at the drop of a hat without having to fear conspiracy charges that a jury would almost certainly not be symptathic to, if the torture was not for good reason and commited against a truly bad actor. Cheney wants to do what the people like John Yoo, who give him legal advice, say he should be able to do..which includes sexually torturing children.

  42. Roket says:

If Mr. Gibbs is a wise-cracking junior high smart mouth then that would make Mr. Rove a spoiled brat potty mouth preschooler. Comparatively speaking, of course.

    For you Archie…

Dodd’s spokeswoman, Kate Szostak, is saying that the accusation that Dodd included the exemption for the bonuses is false, despite reports on Fox News, the Drudge Report, and the Rush Limbaugh radio show.

“Senator Dodd’s original executive compensation amendment adopted by the Senate did not include an exemption for existing contracts that provided for these types of bonuses,” she said.

The exemption that allowed the bonuses was crafted behind closed doors in a conference committee with top negotiators, including some of the most powerful members of Congress — but not Dodd.

I have it! Neo-cons, republicans, and trolls like Rove accuse others of precicely what they themselves do in a subconcious cry for help… No? They are just greedy scum? Rats!

  112. Game of Life says:

    turd!

Is holding a children’s book and looking dazed and confused while the WTC disasters happened…was funny?

wait, wait. this is more like your tickle point, maxi…

looking under a table for WMDs…is that funny roundboy?

I bet you had a good laugh!

Please, please, please repugs STFU and go far far away.

  113. jdanman says:

    I’ll have a double dip-shit on a scumbag cone!

  114. Ape-Man says:

Does Rove believe he can still make a case, or is he just having fun on the way down? Really, it’s like they all think they can somehow rewrite history if they keep up enough bluster and obstruction. Let’s hope not.

  115. LibertyLover says:

    This coming from a very thin-skinned man…

  116. McWars says:

Their history is clearly written for all to see and yet they still show their faces. I LOVED Gibbs’ response. Such a short response that packed a lot of punch. The use of the word ‘cabal’ is as jolting as it is telling.

I suspect that Cheney is getting in his jabs while he can, before his temporary secret service protection runs out (6 months I believe), and then he’ll really become entrenched in his McLean dungeon. A photo of that place never fails to give me the creeps.

  117. OutstandingInMyField says:

I think I understand Rove’s motivation. For years, sycophants told him he was smart, “Bush’s Brain” (not that that is much of a complement). Then suddenly you’re completely freaking irrelevent. The phone is not ringing. What can the poor depressed moron do…get on TV anyway he can, pretend he’s still important.

  118. DallasNE says:

Karl Rove should be thankful that he is not in jail so why is he so filled with hate?

  119. OutstandingInMyField says:

    DallasNE Says:

Karl Rove should be thankful that he is not in jail so why is he so filled with hate?

I suspect that like Cheney’s, Rove’s heart is two sizes too small.

  120. pete says:

Leave it to stupid trolls to pick the least defensible points on which to fight their battles. Though, for the life of me, I can’t imagine why they consider being annoying a legitimate debating tactic.

Heck! If the scum from FAUX came out in support of cannibalism, the stupid trolls would start trading recipes for human babies.

  121. Zooey says:

    Rove?

    Hypocritical?

    Say it ain’t so!

  122. Max-1 says:

    .

    #129 Archie B…
… I’ve been waiting for your answers to my questions for weeks now. It is you who are the coward. I’m merely keeping you honest.

    So please,
What are the redeeming qualities to LYING?
What are the redeeming qualities to USURPING THE CONSTITUTION?
What are the redeeming qualities to TORTURE?
What are the redeeming qualities to WARS OF AGGRESSION?

    I’ve asked…
    … you avoid.

    I’m the coward?

  123. pete says:

Hypocritical? I’m afraid I must quibble, Zooey.

Rove is fundamentally dishonest and dishonorable. Being hypocritical implies one who, knowingly or not, adopts a position contrary to their stated convictions. Turd Blossom has no position, with the possible exception of kneeling for his masters. And the only conviction he’s likely to realize is in a court of law.

  124. Zooey says:

    Oh pete, SMACK!

But don’t hold back, tell me how you really feel. ;)

  125. pete says:

You know me well enough, Zooey. We wouldn’t be facing the worst issues of our day if more of us had expressed what we really feel. I, for one, won’t make that mistake again any time soon.

  126. Zooey says:

    You know it, pete.

We’ve been polite for too long, taken the high road for way too long — it’s time to speak out. Way past time…

  127. RUCerious says:

“These are real issues,” Rove urged, complaining about Gibbs’s “tone”:
Yes, the issue of Cheney not yet arrested for his crimes against humanity is THE issue.

  128. joe cantwell says:

    John Kerry Says:
That’s exactly what this slob Gibbs sounds like!

This whole administration is completely crooked –lead by an incompetent idiot (Obama) and followed by a liar Dodd (who, along with Little Timmy G, is responsible for those bonuses), queer boy Barney (who was one of the ones, with Dodd, who is responsible for the mess we’re in!), that wacked out grandma Pelosi who should be sent to Mexico and fed to the illegals!

It is sickening to see the Messiah and the can’t-shoot-straight crooks try and act like they didn’t known about the bonuses! THEY IN FACT DID ALL ALONG and it’s now just coming out!

    IMPEACH THE BASTARDS!!!

  129. Max-1 says:

    Sorry, a bit OT…

    ACTION ALERT

Former Assistant Attorney General Jay Bybee was the primary author of “legal” memos purporting to justify torture.

He is now a federal judge.

Ask your Congress member to begin impeachment proceedings.

We encourage you to use your own words to alter the text and title below.

    Take Action

  130. Krazny says:

    John Kerry Says:

That’s exactly what this slob blah blah blah

Cripes dude unplug from the right wing noise machine. If you truly believe that Barney Frank is the sole cause of the financial crisis then you have been drinking way to much kool-aid.

  131. Max-1 says:

    .

    Dear John Kerry,
Are you normally p!ssed at everything or just… as you said,

    queer boy Barney?

    Bigot much?

Is it that Barney Frank is gay that has you all hot-n-bothered? Why does his sexuality matter to you? Is it the turning point in your argument?

Or are you just the average gay basher?

Please, clean up your act, it’s gotten tired and extremely offensive.

    If T.P. had an uber-flag…
… I would have shoved it up yours long ago!

    .

  132. Max-1 says:

    p.s.
    I FLAGGED you John Kerry…
    “GAY BASHING”

  133. Max-1 says:

    joe,
    Funny, NO?
Just when I scared Archie B away, Troll Kerry rears it’s ugly head…
… Things that make you go “Hummm…”

  134. LiberalVoter says:

Max-1, Thanks for the link on Bybee. Message sent.

  135. pete says:

Since the moronic trolls brought it up; why is the Reichwing hate machine defending the AIG bonus babies?

  136. pete says:

The relevant question, O stupid troll, is not how many watched, it’s “who watched”?

Answer: The same dead-enders who got trounced in the last two election cycles. The radical cultist who have so divorced themselves from reality that they see no other path than to move farther into the fringe of society.

  137. joe cantwell says:

    arch,

    stay away from the meth.

    capice?

  141. joe cantwell says:

    arch?

    don’t go away mad…

    :)

  142. Max-1 says:

    .

    Dear Archie B.
    So gay bashing is defensible?

… Got an answer on any of these redeeming qualities you go to bat for?

Because at this point, your non-answer(read coward) to the ethos to defending these indefensible attributes points to an extreme anti-patriot tendency. You’re appearing as if you’re cheering on the demise of America…
    … You know, a Loyal (R)ushpublickin’.

    .

  143. Joe the Philosopher says:

If anyone would know about wise-cracking junior high smart mouths, I would lay my money on Karl Rove. I believe Karl may have been one of those guys the gym coach hung out of the third floor window just to scare him.

  144. KayInMaine says:

Hey Archie B, according to Glenn Beck, the AIG criminals should be able to keep their bonuses because ‘it’s the law’ and Glenn Beck practically soaked his microphone telling his listeners how much he loooooooooooooooooooooves the law.

“Let them keep their bonuses! They have to eat too!”
, squealed the Capitalist Pigs all over America!

So, with that in mind, you must be happy that the Treasury pressured Dodd to take the amendment out, huh? Even Rush Limbaugh is ecstatic that the criminals still got paid for the crimes they committed!

  145. KayInMaine says:

The AIG bonuses were first hashed out in the spring of 2008 (under George Bush/Henry Paulsen). In Sept/Oct 2008 (under George Bush/Henry Paulsen), AIG started crashing (AIG is the Head of the CDS Pig and if it had collapsed the whole entire global market would have thanks to the 400 criminals in the Financial Products Unit) and George Bush said, “Save the banks! Send in government money & control!”, and voila…..the bank bailouts were born.

The House passed the first bailout bill.

The Senate ADDED $150 BILLION TO IT, it passed (with republican support of course) and then it was sent back to the House.

    It passed in the House.

George Bush signed it. The money started going to AIG and others. AIG already had signed contracts with their criminals already in force, so the first part of the TARP money did not have protections in place to go after excessive pay/bonuses.

The second part of the TARP was signed over to President Obama by George Bush, but there were protections put in it for oversight of these bonuses.

Was it Paulsen who pressured Dodd to take our the protections or was it Geithner? This is not set in stone yet. Dodd is refusing to say and members of the Treasury have not come forward. THERE WERE LEGAL MATTERS TO TEND WITH, meaning, as Rush Limbaugh & Glenn Beck have been stating on their radio programs, the law protects these bonuses. Uh ha.

At this point, it doesn’t matter who took the amendment out, because THERE ARE SO MANY LOOPHOLES that it will be almost inevitable to stop these payouts.

Some of the Pigs who received a bonus from AIG have said they will give theirs back at 100%. So what, BECAUSE THEY’RE STILL WORKING FOR AIG, you know, THE COMPANY THEY DROVE INTO THE GROUND WITH THEIR ILLEGAL PRACTICES THAT WEREN’T REGULATED UNDER GEORGE BUSH.

The republicans controlled the White House, the US House, and the US Senate from 2002-2006 and even John McCain can tell you that when any amendment came to the floor during that time to regulate the banks/subprimes etc, it got laughed at and squashed by the republicans.

Republicans don’t like rules, laws, and regulations no matter how hard they’re squealing today that they do.

  146. KayInMaine says:

Because of ALL the loopholes, US Congressman Mike Michaud of Maine refused TWICE TO VOTE IN FAVOR OF THE BAILOUT BILLS. He said something needed to be done (meaning the bailout was a good idea), but he could not vote in favor of the legislation before him because there were too many loopholes and not enough oversight of those receiving the money.

  147. po says:

Rove says Gibbs should have responded to the merits of the issues . . . there is no merit to what the VP has to say – that was the point of Gibbs’ response.

  148. Cats r Flyfishn says:

The descriptors that Rove used sounds like he was describing his best forever friend… George W Bush. Former president Bush was always making wise crack remarks during press conferences.

  149. Nevar says:

Karl has never forgiven his fellow classmates from junior high who mocked him incessantly for standing up to give an oral report, all the while playing ‘pocket pool’.

  150. PensiveGadfly says:

    Back to topic:

I appreciate learning about Rove’s hypocrisy, which is nothing new. But I think Bill’O’s phony outrage needs to be countered or we let the right wing flavor the story and create the “frame” as Lakoff says.

Someone should point out that Cheney left office with one of the lowest approval ratings ever so his input resonates with as few people as Rush’s grousings. Hence, Gibbs’ comment was not flippant, but well calculated to irritate the administration’s critiques with truth of their irrelevance.

  151. The Dreaded Patrick says:

Is this Archie B character the troll know as Olby sucks, iwanttosuckolbermann, he is just trolling for his dad Johnny Dollar pay him no attention.

To me it sounds like Rove is just bitter, like Fox News about Obama being president, all they can do is smear.
Gibbs won’t kiss Fox News ass and that is another reason that they are pissed. Rove get a frigginn life.

  152. The Dreaded Patrick says:

    Hey Johny Kerry,
Do you realize that nobody cares of Obama read off a prompter, at least this president can form a sentence unlike W. who could not form a sentence.

As for Gibbs he is awesome isn’t he?

  153. joe cantwell says:

    John Kerry Says:
Gibbs is a real idiot but at least he’s not reading a teleprompter!

    *

    jk, arch, backup, doggie,

    you are a teleprompter.

    .

  154. pastcaring says:

    Porky needs to go away.

  155. jb says:

Karl, can you hear the banjos?

  156. barfly says:

    John Kerry Says:

Gibbs is a real idiot but at least he’s not reading a teleprompter!

At least Obama can use one. When’s the last time you “put food on your family?”

  157. zuch says:

ROVE: What surprised me was frankly the tone of Mr. Gibbs, who sounded like some wise-cracking junior high smart mouth. And it would have been better both for Obama and for the country if Mr. Gibbs had, if he felt it necessary to respond, responded on the merits of the issue rather than, you know, putting such a heavy emphasis on his little sarcastic flip comment. Because these are real issues. These are real issues.

Oh, yes. Indeed. It is in fact a Serious Issue™ as to exactly why Ctheney was invited on CNN to spout RW talking points. Nothing else of note is happening in the world, of course, and everyone is really invested in who should get facetime on Sunday Bobbleheads shows….

    Cheers,
