Palin rejects nearly half of state’s stimulus funds meant for education, health care, and labor.

ap090211033627.jpg Following the lead of the other 2012 GOP presidential contenders, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) announced today that she would reject nearly half the $930 million Alaska was set to receive from the economic stimulus package. Like Gov. Mark Sanford (R-SC), Palin is set to further cripple the state’s education system:

The biggest single chunk of stimulus money that Palin is turning down is $160 million for education. There’s also $17 million in Department of Labor funds (vocational rehabilitation services, unemployment services, etc.), about $9 million for Health and Social Services and about $7 million for Public Safety.

During the press conference announcing her decision, Palin asked, “Will we chart our own course, or will Washington (D.C.) engineer it for us?” She also quoted Thomas Jefferson and complained about “the strings attached” to the stimulus funds. “What we think we need is kind of a time-out, where we back up, we pause, and we really think about what we’re doing here,” Palin said.

Maybe money for more abstinence-only programs would have made the package more appealing to Palin.

  2. nanlichi says:

How about spending some of that money on sex education?

Cut down on the number of babies handicapped by being born to teenage unwed mothers or from old, degenerated eggs?

Come on Palins. Buy some condoms and learn how to use them.

  3. RUCerious says:

She wanted it spent on abstinence only roads to nowhere.

  4. Hoodathunk says:

I wonder when these clowns will come to realize that by turning down the education funding they are saying, we want to keep our state stupid?

“What we think we need is kind of a time-out, where we back up, we pause, and we really think about what we’re doing here,” Palin said.

Important questions like “Will this stimulus package come included with a wardrobe?” and “Are my children going to get some of this cash?” must be crossing through her mind right now.

No wonder that State has such a high rate of teen drugs and pregnancies with full support of Govenor Palin. I guess Levi’s Mom isn’t the only parent selling drugs to make a living in Alaska. Yes Sarah will wait until the bottom fall out or the Russian comes to Alaska before she does something. The people of Alaska can either suffer or kick Sarah out, it’s their choice.

It’s just not clear what will be left in four years for them to run for after their politicization of the economic crisis risks sending our country into another Great Depression by gutting the impact of the stimulus. Folks, these people simply don’t care about the consequences of their actions. $9 million for Health and Social Services and about $7 million for Public Safety.

Are you saying, mooseyak, that using this money won’t help children with disabilities and your growing meth problems? You aren’t worth your governorship if you don’t have the foresight on dispensing the need aid.

Palin’s response is typical of the Republican Party. If Education for the American people was improved, there is no way another stupid guy like Dumya could get elected (twice) as the American President.

  111. Chocolate Jesus says:

archies probably the guy who burned downed sara palins church so she could get sympathy and attention..munchausens by orthodoxy, as it were…its clear the guys trying to get us to join him in advocating violence against her, and im glad to see none of us are taking his unmasterful-bait…

archie, we arent violence loving neanderthals like your type, pretty much everyone here would be wholly satisfied merely by seeing palin impeached or jailed for her contempt of court and her abuse of power as detailed in the legislative report. also for tax evasion for not paying taxes on the free trips her kids got on the taxpayers dime even though they wernt invited..

  112. blancadebree says:

Governor Palin is right to reject this money. Alaskans don’t need money for health care. They just put their sick on ice floes and abandon them. They also don’t need any more money for education. How much schooling does it take to learn the 200 words for snow? And what kind of money does Alaska need for labor? I think the elk and seal hunting industries are doing just fine.

  113. spearNmagicHelmet says:

forget russia, she’s a stone’s throw from retarded.

  114. Anders says:

Hold a minute, I’m not fan of Palin, but surely is she accepted the money you’d be accusing her of double standards ? .

  115. Anders says:

  116. LividLib says:

but she’ll spend millions slaughtering wolves.
    stoopid kunt!

  117. blood1 says:

    Okay, here we go again!

We need to remember that in 2008, then Senator Stevens only garnered $86 million in earmarks…and one in particular for for 34.5M for Native AK education. There is a complete listening on Earmarkwatch.org and other oversight sites, but this one always amazed me as it was not co-sponsered!

    http://earmarkwatch.org/2008-senate-laborhhs/search/?sponsor=90

So she may be saying one thing, but has several “cards” hidden from those who don’t ask and don’t tell!

  118. squidbilly says:

It is 2012 and Palin speaks….

Well ya know when we were offered that big government stimulus money I said thanks but no thanks…Well so I took half only of it…

  119. avchavis says:

OK – I started not to add my 5 cents – but – I had to after watching Keith Olbermann this evening. Part of the stimulus that Palin refused is funding for children with special needs!? What a hypocrite after prominently displaying her own child, who has downs syndrome, during her campaign. Well, I’ll giver Palin the benefit of the doubt – maybe she just didn’t read the details about what she was refusing?!?! Just following after other rethuglican governors?

  120. youtube says:

Palin could be thinking that they don’t need a stimulus package, that her decision, thats their decision who puts her in gov.

  121. khumsoto says:

i think people like sarah palin and bob jindall and that south carolina guy should not be voted to office because they dont represent there people they just think about politics and she is thinking about running for president of romney’s vp i tell you the truth that is the plan for the republican party ROMNEY/PALIN

  122. Rich H says:

    avchavis,

I just watched Olbermann too, the money also goes to an emergency food fund, meals for the elderly, emergency medical services as well as education and others.

Many people may not know that there is a huge food shortage in parts of Alaska and people are literally starving. It’s true, and she thinks it’s o.k.

Palin, Jindal and Sanford, what a group. I can’t wait for that debate.

Palin: I cut off food for the starving.
Jindal: I cut off unemployment benefits.
Sanford: I cut off education funding.

All together: no I did, no I did, no I did!

What a bunch of shi*heads. I guess we don’t have to worry about these three losers in 2012.

  123. The Moderate Squad says:

It makes a lot of sense for Palin to reject funding for education; the more ignorant she can keep her constituents, the more likely her poor education and even more poorly thought out agenda will be apparent. For a while I didn’t think the GOP could possibly still embrace such a moron after her VP showing, but a huge number are still on that bandwagon. GOOD! The only thing she’s effective at is discrediting herself, so it should save the Obama campaign time and effort in 2012.
