Last night, the conservative Media Research Center, which houses the ever on point NewsBusters blog, hosted its annual “DisHonors” media awards gala in Washington, D.C. Aside from the cornier “Media Messiah” and “Obamagasm” media honors the group bestowed to alleged “liberal” members of the press, MRC presented Fox News’s Brit Hume with its “William F. Buckley Jr. Award for Media Excellence.” In his acceptance speech, Hume warned of the dangers of the rise of blogs and news being “presented from one political viewpoint”:
HUME: What are we getting?…We’re getting bloggers and websites and all sorts of individual entrepreneurs, and we have a vaster menu of choices today than we’ve ever had. But I think that we also have the danger that everything will be presented from one political viewpoint or the other, and that the media that confront us are going to be more partisan than ever — which means that the Media Research Center will have a mission for many years to come, and a good thing that is.
Hume’s warning is rather odd because in the very same speech, he thanked the MRC — an unabashedly conservative outfit — for feeding him information for his reports as anchor of Fox News’s Special Report:
HUME: I want to say a word, however, of thanks, to [MRC president] Brent [Bozell] and to the team at the Media Research Center and all the contributors who make that work there possible. [...] also for the tremendous amount of material that the Media Research Center provided me for so many years when I was anchoring Special Report. I don’t know what we would have done without them. It was a daily, sort of a buffet of material to work from, and we — we — we certainly made tremendous use of it.
But if anyone would know anything about reporting from a certain political point of view, it is Brit Hume. During this past presidential campaign, Hume (perhaps unknowingly) took part in the right wing campaign to paint Barack Obama as a Muslim — first suggesting that Obama had previously practiced Islam and later falsely claiming that Obama’s brother “is not sure sure” Barack is Christian.
Moreoever, Hume has claimed that al-Qaeda in Iraq “was there before we got there,” that “the problem” with the Walter Reed affair was that it looked bad for former President Bush, and that Democrats “are kind of embarrassed by patriotism.” He recently said Bush put America on an “amazing” foreign policy path. And over the years, Hume’s reports have routinely contained conservative misinformation, especially on global warming and the Valerie Plame CIA leak scandal.
But even though Hume stepped down as anchor of Special Report, he still gets paid to offer his dangerous commentary for the Fox News Channel.
Hey Britster,
Anything that keeps your little world off balance let’s me know we’re doing something right.
Suck on that.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:21 pmSo, a right-wing former anchor praises a right-wing self-proclaimed “media watchdog” for helping his “newscast” with subjects to talk about it. And yet they all still believe there is an overall liberal bias in the media. How delusional is that?
March 20th, 2009 at 6:22 pmYes, and in his past life, he warned that because of Gutenberg, the damn Kraut, future people would be (ugh), literate.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:23 pmHe says with his nose firmly jammed between the GOP’s cheeks.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:26 pmWhat Brit didn’t say is that the mainstream media is becoming a mere cipher thanks to the blogs and those damn internets!
Great job, Hume – soon you’ll be on the unemployment lines as the cable news goes by way of the newspaper – a total albatross.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:27 pmHume says:
But I think that we also have the danger that everything will be presented from one political viewpoint or the other, and that the media that confront us are going to be more partisan than ever — which means that the Media Research Center will have a mission for many years to come, and a good thing that is.
So is it a danger, Brit, or is it a good thing?
Or do you mean that it’s a danger because liberal viewpoints may have outlets that they don’t really have now, but it’s a good thing that there always will be conservative groups looking to catapult the propaganda?
Is that what you meant?
March 20th, 2009 at 6:28 pmMRC presented Fox News’s Brit Hume with its “William F. Buckley Jr. Award for Media Excellence.”
And Irony threw up in it’s mouth, a little.
Since Buckley was a conservative Iraq war critic, most present at the dinner likely had to stifle their tittering behind raised wineglasses.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:28 pmWayne: That’s called a reichwing “circle jerk”; as I said, mental masturbation.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:28 pmDo these totally transparent and pathetically pedestrian news casters actually believe that the people don’t know what they are?
If so, the only ones they’re fooling are themselves. Britt Hume has been a card-carrying reichwing fascist from the start. He never did anything that wasn’t totally biased and everyone could see that.
These games of mental masturbation these charlatans play is downright astounding. Chain…chain….chain…..
Chain of fools.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:29 pmI think it’s time for someone to award Brit Hume with the Biggest Hypocrite Award.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:29 pmOutshone by Joe the Plumber indeed..looks like Joe had some reinforcements from the South…

Burn that awful rug on his head.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:30 pmReconstruct the sentence: Because of partisan news (Fox) you have blogs that push back against your lying BS.

I call them “Court Composers.”
March 20th, 2009 at 6:31 pmBritt Phume it is! That would describe the fumes he’s inhaling while sucked between some GOP-ster’s cheeks.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:31 pmHAHAHAHA in order for hume to mentally masterbate he has to have something TO masterbate..by the way can you masterbate a pea???
March 20th, 2009 at 6:31 pmYou said it – that rug looks like some el cheapo rush-job made from the carpeting of the local Motel 8, for cripe’s sakes.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:32 pmyeah, im sure, mr Hume, it doesnt have ANYTHING to do with the fact that blogs debunk the falsehoods your “news” network has asserted it has the right to peddle to your audience..
I doubt Fox would have retracted its clip of Joe Biden quoting MccCain (while editing out the part where he mentioned “john mccain says”), if it wernt for blogs..
March 20th, 2009 at 6:32 pmTrust me: If you can diddle a pea, Britt’s got a hand-le on it.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:32 pmThanks to the internet these frauds can’t get away with their hypocrisy and lies. They hate it; we love it. It’s a tool of the people which will nail them every time.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:33 pmWell someone better warn him that because of blogs, future jobs for partisan newscasters might be more scarce.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:33 pmAs for Joe the Non-Plumber Plumber: You stay classy dude! You continue to show us why the sickos love you so much that they’ve made you their poster boy.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:34 pmagain, for the record,
which one for told the audience
they were “horny”, brit or joe?
or did they both say they were “horny”?
or did they say they were “horny” for each other?
and which on said “if you seek amy”?
we gotta nail this down people.
_-_
March 20th, 2009 at 6:34 pmPhume’s job is in serious jeopardy right now – this we know.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:35 pmAh, yes, Joe Cantwell’s hit the nail on the head. Joe Wurtzelbacher is horny for Britt Hume’s “rug”!! God knows he could use one, too.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:35 pmHe should know partisan when he sees it. Fox is nothing if not partisan. What Hume really fears is the conservative press which dominates 95% of all news outlets, will not be in full control of the blogs. Which really means some other ideas and opinions will be other then ultra right wing will be seen and heard.
Sorry about that Hume. Perhaps if we all live long enough, we might see a liberal, yes I said liberal, look at the world. Maybe not so hate filled, so fear mongering and not so entirely selfish. As for me, after all these years, I will settle for a happier country without the constant knee jerk neoconservative view. They make me very tired. Not afraid as they would like, just fed up with them and their negative and hateful rhetoric.
I don’t know about some of you out there, but no one I know, and I mean no one, wants another eight years like the last. And that includes most of the Republicans I know.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:36 pmAnd while we’re nailing this clown, what the hellatio is the name ‘Brit’ about. Never heard a first name of ‘Fren’ or ‘Scot’(one t please) or ‘Paki’… His parents must have hated him from the get.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:37 pmAh, my bad, on second thought, it must be short for Brittle.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:38 pmDang it, I need to order another box of hats. Either that or keep the bucket closer.
A supposed reporter complaining that people might just be blogging information that doesn’t have a darn thing to do with their paycheck. How dare they just talk without worrying about getting paid for it?
March 20th, 2009 at 6:40 pmBrit Hume is a scumbag. That is all.

March 20th, 2009 at 6:43 pmWow, who would’ve seen coming a head newscaster brimming with pride over politicizing his delivery? Using Brent Bozo’s rag to produce the news — how professional!
March 20th, 2009 at 6:43 pmDo you guys suppose Brit thinks he’s a non-partisan newsman?
March 20th, 2009 at 6:44 pmMarch 20th, 2009 at 6:44 pm
Oops.
The filter doesn’t like me, it seems.
Let’s try again:
MRC presented Fox News’s Brit Hume with its “William F. Buckley Jr. Award for Media Excellence.
In Hell, Tony Snow spits out Saddam’s crank, and wails, “NOOOOO !!! It should have been mine…”
March 20th, 2009 at 6:47 pmA supposed news channel uses the term “Big labor” on their cryon. Way to insult the elbow grease of this country, as if the higher ups they vouch for could do w/o this “Big labor.”
March 20th, 2009 at 6:47 pmAs if Hume weren’t the worst sort of cheap political hack.
March 20th, 2009 at 6:49 pmMcWars Says:
A supposed news channel uses the term “Big labor” on their cryon.

March 20th, 2009 at 7:01 pm.
Dear Sh!t Fumes,
Partisan propaganda good?
Investigative journalism bad?
Y’all know he’s making the argument to NOT be accountable for truthful and accurate reporting, NO?
.
March 20th, 2009 at 7:03 pmLOL! He made that statement while received an award from the MRC??
Yeah, nothing PARTISAN would ever come out of that event, right???
March 20th, 2009 at 7:04 pmSpoken like a true partisan news hack!!
March 20th, 2009 at 7:12 pmGood! The right-wing stooge, Brit Hume, doesn’t like it. Someone should tell him that the crisis we are in is because of the RepubliCons and the right-wing biased MSM. The MSM and dips like him are complicit to the crimes of Bush and the RepubliCons.
March 20th, 2009 at 7:12 pmHorse hockey! Unless Brit’s pushing the lowest common denominator theory so prevalent today.
1. Wages must go down, because pay in Vietnam is so low.
2. Benefits mush decrease, health insurance is an unfair burden for firms competing in the global economy.
3. Taxes must decline as Japan looks at zero capital gains for PEU’s (private equity underwriters)
4. Lobbyists are to blame for no restrictions on incentive pay for bailed out firms, while Congress wrote the bill.
News can return to its role as the Fourth Estate, but Brit Hume won’t lead the way. Putz!
March 20th, 2009 at 7:14 pmBrit Hume complaining about partisanship? Thats the pot calling the kettle black.
March 20th, 2009 at 7:15 pmand we have a vaster menu of choices today than we’ve ever had.
I feel safe in saying, that’s exactly the point bit, err brit.
But I think that we also have the danger that everything will be presented from one political viewpoint or the other,
Sounds to me like he thinks there should be just the one political viewpolnt, his.
March 20th, 2009 at 7:19 pmDo people seriously watch this clown ?
Brit wants to go back to the days when Americans kept to themselves and didn’t know how badly the republicans were screwing America over.
March 20th, 2009 at 7:20 pmThank goodness we have Fox news to keep partisan bias out of the news.
Hypocricy, thy name is Legion.
March 20th, 2009 at 7:20 pmFox News’s Brit Hume Warns That Because Of Blogs, Future News Will Be ‘More Partisan’
So telling coming from a so called news organization that splices video to lie for political reasons.
Because Of Blogs, Future News Will Be ‘More Partisan’… Isn’t it more like big money can not buy gopper propaganda or divert the real truth from We the People when it comes to the blogs.
March 20th, 2009 at 7:26 pmFuture News Will Be ‘More Partisan???
Coming from a FAUX NOISE propaganda sock puppet that is funny….
…oh my, the irony.

I realize I’m late to this party, but would you indulge me a belly laugh here?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
March 20th, 2009 at 7:33 pmI am proud to be a partisan. No way in hell can I see it their way! And I don’t want to. I’m sick to death of the American Taliban…the political party Brit Hume belongs to.
March 20th, 2009 at 7:34 pmAmerica’s ‘main stream media’ vilified the people of France for opposing Bush’s War on Iraq. As it turns out, France was right and Bush turned out to be a liar, thief, murderer, and con artist. Now, millions of people in France are on general strike as they oppose bailouts and bonuses for the millionaires and billionaires who destroyed their economy.
Why can’t Americans be more pro-active like the French? We brought an end to the Vietnam War with civil disobedience. Why can’t we do that again? Will Americans ever develope a spine again? Why can’t Americans grow a huge set of cojones, like the French?

for the record, remember, fox news employees reproduce asexually, as do other fungus..
March 20th, 2009 at 7:48 pmLet us not forget, whilst we’re roasting Brit, and Fox, that Fox is, to date, still the ONLY news network, and I use the term loosely… very, very loosely… that has gone to court and defended its behavior by specifically claiming they have a Constitutionally protected right to lie and call it news.
BTW, where are the trolls to defend Fox? No luvin’ fer Brit, trolls?
March 20th, 2009 at 8:03 pmWhat Brit Hume actually means is that there is a danger that liberal/progressive/left point of view might be expressed by blogs and websites since it certainly isn’t carried on any mainstream news channel. In Brit Hume’s world view, right wing reporting is non-partisan and everything else is partisan.
March 20th, 2009 at 8:04 pm. . . and Fox is the visionary leader in that department, eh, Brit?
March 20th, 2009 at 8:16 pmI have to agree with one point Hume made, Bush did put the US on an amazing foreign policy path. Amazingly (add your own descriptor here) stupid.
March 20th, 2009 at 8:20 pm>BTW, where are the trolls to defend Fox?
Didnt you read the part about Joe the Plumber being horny?
March 20th, 2009 at 8:22 pmYou are alone brit hume.
March 20th, 2009 at 8:23 pmFox News’s Brit Hume Warns That Because Of Blogs, Future News Will Be ‘More Partisan’
Brit Hume is, of course, correct; the more blogs and websites allow reality to intrude into and expose the distorted, corporate conservative viewpoint, the further partisan and jingoistic FOX will be forced to drift to try to compensate for the public’s access to inconvenient truths and indisputable concrete facts.
FOX’s threat to cake on the ‘cosmetic spin’ only makes them look more like $2 whores…
March 20th, 2009 at 8:48 pmcj,
that joe the plumber!
(why do they embrace him and ig jeff gannon?)
???
March 20th, 2009 at 8:55 pmI’ve got to admit I see some logic to the idea that the ease of establishing blogs can provide an avenue of mass publication for ideas from the extremes of the spectrum.
At the same time, I’d give more credence to the idea if we didn’t have a long and distinguished record of “yellow journalism” already.
March 20th, 2009 at 8:57 pm@MapleStreet Says:
I’ve got to admit I see some logic to the idea that the ease of establishing blogs can provide an avenue of mass publication for ideas from the extremes of the spectrum.
____
It used to be said that “freedom of the press was contingent on the ability to own a printing press.” Now, anyone with an internet account can be heard worldwide (however minimally). I don’t have any problem finding ample examples of the entire spectrum of political thought online.
Hume, STFU, you WATB. You are at zero risk of ever being confused with David Hume.
March 20th, 2009 at 9:06 pmI really enjoy Brit’s emotionally charged incisive and biased style of propaganda. He makes me laugh. Such a clown well represents the neo-con political perspective.
March 20th, 2009 at 9:56 pmMr. Hume,
March 20th, 2009 at 10:11 pmStop pretending that you and your Fox news network are objective, fair and non partisan.
Fox News is nothing but a partisan network and that’s no big secret to Brit Hume.
The most sickening thing about this story is that this is a faux “newsman” taking an award from a faux “media watchdog group.” When Hume said “I don’t know what we would have done without them.” all I could think was, well, try gathering and reporting facts instead of regurgitating things fed youu by a notoriously partisan group. You know, Brit, things real journalists do.
March 20th, 2009 at 10:28 pmI don’t see how Fox news could be more partisan.
March 20th, 2009 at 10:30 pmSane people should take heart, however – the Humes and the Bozells, to say nothing of the Rush O’Coulters, specifically preach to the choir that their media organs have identified as their specific demographic. While they will always have a rabid following (and I’m thinking I must mean rabid in the literal sense), these people never change anyone’s mind. In the late 80s/early 90s the Democrats finally realized they had to push their loonies off the stage if they were ever going to get anywhere. The GOP is still unwilling to do this – and any group that still clings to the sub-moronic Joe The Plumber as an iconic uberpatriot is a safe bet to never learn from their mistakes.
March 20th, 2009 at 10:45 pmThe word Brit is looking for is “accurate” not “partisan”
March 20th, 2009 at 10:58 pmPartisan? In a just world, Republicans and Democrats would be fighting in the streets right now.

Are we still running with this unfounded attempt at smear?
March 20th, 2009 at 11:05 pm
Define “we,” Becky Loon.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:16 pmLike almost every other conservative, Hume can never accept responsibilty for his own side’s action. In this case, increased partisanship is a direct result of the right going further right. It has nothing to do with blogs.
March 20th, 2009 at 11:18 pmOne of my favorite Simpson’s episodes is the Citizen Kane one, where Burns is dreaming about his beloved childhood teddy bear and wakes up shouting “Bobo!”, while Homer wakes up shouting “Lobo! Sheriff Lobo!” Makes me laugh every time.
Anyway, Ms. Lobo, you are aware that there is videotape of Joe the Plumber, aren’t you? In fact, there’s a helpful link to the video, in one of the comments above, have a look. “Unfounded attempt at smear”? Every part of that phrase is just wrong “Unfounded”? Nope, there’s the video. “attempt”? No, seems to be fait accomplis. “at”? should have been ‘to’. “smear”? No, a smear is something a person or group does to another person or group – Sam/Joe seems to have simply made an arse out of himself.

March 20th, 2009 at 11:47 pmSorry folks, again I could not read all posts. The problem in our country, right here, right now, is that we don’t have neutral, unbiased journalism. Anywhere! And I must agree with dbadass, we have no idea who you are except for the stunningly troll-like posture you present. Perhaps you don’t know how right-wing you sound?
Doubtful.
I think you’re just another in a long line of ignorant, close-minded conservatives trying to derail our conversation. You act as if there is no other viewpoint than yours, and you offer no convincing arguments as to why we should take you seriously.
Please, prove me wrong – post something thoughtful!

So let’s save everyone the hassle and just chat shall we?
March 21st, 2009 at 1:05 amI’m impressed by the facility with which our friend Rebecca is able to use the minimum number of words to get the maximum amount of nonsense.
That can’t be easy.

In this case, increased partisanship is a direct result of the right going further right.
Can anyone explain how this scenario only works one way? Rationally?
You are framing the discussion in a false way (which is a very common right wing debating tactic, designed to avoid actual debate of substance and meaning, and you have mastered it). It’s not that this scenario only works one way, it’s just that it is factually correct that it is true in this particular scenario, the one called “reality”. The right wing, instead of trying to attract more support from the center, has run even further and faster to the right in an effort to shore up their base (which they were never in danger of losing.) In truth, they have no idea how to win by debating honestly, just as you have demonstrated tonight.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Are you an infant? What is it about the term IN THIS CASE that is too complex for you to understand? Or the fact that because it doesnt HAVE to work only in one way doesnt mean it ISNT happening only or even predominatly in one way. There is NO liberal equivalent of ANN Coulter who says liberals should be beaten with baseball bats, or a Supreme Court Justice should be poisoned. That the 9/11 Widows enjoyed their husbands death. There is no liberal equivalent of Micheal Savage who said he was tired of hearing there are one billion Muslims in the world and what we need to do is kill one hundred million of them and that George Soros would cheerfully push people into ovens. Which prominent lefty calls rightwingers things like Feminazis or makes fun of conservatives children like when the oxymoron basically called Chelsea Clinton the white house dog? These people have PROMINENCE on your side. They have support. We dont put our nutbags up front and center you do IN ORDER to push the partisanship. This is obvious. YOU. HAVE. NO. POINT.
March 21st, 2009 at 1:11 amJane
I am not that keen on swordfish myself as this is a fishery which is not sustainable based on current exploitation. As usual I will probably barter away much of these supplies but I do think I will make a poblano shrimp corn chowder with some of the rock shrimp and I love artichokes.
I wonder what Rebecca’s favorite food might be. I have this horrible sense that she thinks Applebees is cuisine…

March 21st, 2009 at 1:22 amHUME: What are we getting?…We’re getting bloggers and websites and all sorts of individual entrepreneurs, and we have a vaster menu of choices today than we’ve ever had. But I think that we also have the danger that everything will be presented from one political viewpoint or the other, and that the media that confront us are going to be more partisan than ever — which means that the Media Research Center will have a mission for many years to come, and a good thing that is.
RUC: What are we getting? We’re getting vapid political hacks disingeneously disguised as reporters with a much more limited menu of conservative tripe than we’ve ever had. But I think that we also have the danger that everything will be presented from the Faux News/NeoCon Reichwing viewpoint. Blah and Blah ad nauseum. Thank you.

March 21st, 2009 at 1:24 amwhen is the last time Jesse said we should beat conservatives with baseball bats and MURDER someone? When was the last time Jesse spoke for anyone but himself? Coulter and Limbaugh are revered in GOP circles. When Jesse says rude things he is taken to task by US when Rush does they APPOLOGIZE TO HIM. Besides Jesse thought the mike was off. Coulter writes these things in her book and says them on CNN KNOWING it is going out to the nation. Are you REALLY claiming that is the same thing? I think Jesse is often a jerk and have said so many times. You people cant WAIT to come to the defense of the Coulters, Limbaughs and Savages. When Jesse for instance made his Hymietown statement he was vilified from the left. Rush gets APPOLGIES from the leader of the GOP for slight criticism. Also Jesse doesnt get MILLIONS of liberals listen to him. You are still not within a parsec of showing a liberal equivalent to Coulter or Savage. YOU put your nuts front and center, protect and revere them and loose them to toss red meat to the knuckledragging neandrathals. The left doesnt or at least hasnt been lately
March 21st, 2009 at 1:25 amBecca, didn’t anybody tell you wolves are an endangered feces?
March 21st, 2009 at 1:26 amAnother example of stupid Republican reporters. Brit Hume got his job because his wife is an executive. He will be leaving soon and like the true girly man he is, he will live off his wife. With Joe the Plummer and Grand Poobah Limbaugh the GOP is already at the bottom. March 21st, 2009 at 1:28 amRebecca Habib Archie Lobo Bovine,
Is it your argument that the party that has been out of the Oval Office over the past eight years has done more to make American a bitterly divided country than the party that has?
Make your case. Support it with evidence. Defend what the conservatives have done as being better.
Wait.
Before you do that, do me a favor.
Consider the fact that you are a completely partisan conservative troll who’s come to a blue blog in the hopes of picking a fight. And you are complaining about the left making things more partisan.
Pretty funny, huh?
If you wanted to make things less partisan, I daresay you wouldn’t troll here in the desperate way you do.
March 21st, 2009 at 1:30 amIs ralph still about? The llama explained this behavioral pathology quite well earlier this day. It matters little to Ms Lobo that her query has been addressed numerous times. She will simple ignore that and claim it has not been. This is a defense mechanism that is employed to protect the socially alienated and isolated from the realities which pain them so. By denying the obvious they can create a dillusion in which they view themnselves as some sort of noble warrior doing battle against those forces which they blame for their inability to fit into and make real personal bonds with real people in the actual world of flesh and blood
March 21st, 2009 at 1:33 amRebecca Lobo,
If you had ever bothered to take the time to get to know us, you would learn that there are some here who honestly enjoy a good debate with conservative-minded people. We believe that debate involves intelligent discussion, not simply regurgitation of talking points, and especially not vague, baseless innuendo about liberals in general (or some of us in particular). If you would stop being so obtuse and evasive, you might actually get polite responses from some of the really good debaters here, like dbadass.
Is the problem that you don’t really understand why you believe the things you believe? because we can discuss those things, and in a civil manner if you are willing to do so. So far, I see no evidence that you are willing.
March 21st, 2009 at 1:35 amThat makes a lot of sense, db.
I guess expecting Becky Loon and her kind to participate in reality is asking a bit too much. They must be very, very frightened.
March 21st, 2009 at 1:35 amdbadass Says:
It is an interesting pathology. I think it goes hand and hand with the fact they dont really CARE about, facts, truth, OR reality. They have made up this little story in their heads. It is a delusional fantasy but what is important is to protect that fantasy at ALL COSTS.
March 21st, 2009 at 1:37 amThey must be very, very frightened.
Yes, Zooey, they are. At least, the really, really far right ones are. Fear is a powerful motivator. If someone tells us that we or our children are in danger, our instinct is to want to know what to do to stay safe. When frightened, we humans do not think rationally, and will jump on the first idea that sounds remotely good at first glance. We don’t think.
The Right Wing Noise machine has no ideas, only propaganda with which to frighten its followers. It uses no facts (or very few, and often the ones they do use are misused), and instead relies on getting people emotional rather than rational. When people think, the right wing loses the debate every time. So they try to keep people in a state of fear so they won’t think about what they are being told (which really makes no goddamn sense whatsoever if you think about it.)
March 21st, 2009 at 1:40 amMost trolls are. When I read Archie B’s trolling attempts in particular, I detect an immense sense of powerlessness on his part, coupled with a vicious, urgent need to blame others for his cowardice.
March 21st, 2009 at 1:41 amWell, that lame-assed, piss-soaked, peckerwood, pwned troll has crawled back under it’s bridge.

Glenn Beck: “Believe in something, even if it’s wrong! You have to believe in something.”
You are right, Eugene. It doesn’t matter to them if what they believe in has any validity in the real world or not. (This also explains why religion is so popular among the right, and why they so fervently believe the Bible is an accurate historical account.)

March 21st, 2009 at 8:06 amBlogs are dangerous for a fascist coup attempt.
What happens is that bloggers point out things called facts, that really put a thorn in the side of a propaganda scheme.
For Hume to claim that Fox News can achieve more partisanism than what they have already demonstrated, is like saying Hitler could have been a little more tyrannical and warmongering.
March 21st, 2009 at 8:23 amLets hope that all these blogs have the universal effect of marginalizing britt right out of business
March 21st, 2009 at 8:48 amBecause of blogs, the internet, email and texting, Americans have more information that ever before. This information was once controlled by the government and the news media; they determined what the public heard and read.
Things are different now, for the better. Sure, people like Brit Hume are seeing their status crumble a bit but we are all better off.
If the communications infrastructure we have today existed in the early sixties we would probably know who murdered J. F. Kennedy. Arlen (f’n) Specter might know, but he isn’t saying.
March 21st, 2009 at 8:57 amExactly how could future news be more partisan than it is now? Honestly, what more could Fox News do than it is already doing?
We live in the early days of the information revolution. Blogs are just a tool the people are using to get information, and determine if that information is accurate. What seems apparent, is that the news media, not just Fox News, gives us news that is chock full of lies and misrepresentations. As people lose faith in the journalistic integrity of news media, they turn to other forms of media. Progressives have all but abandoned traditional media simply because it is a “no feedback” media.
We saw with the troll last night, Rebecca, how she was giving us her nonsense, but could not participate in basic conversation. We want to question the sources of news items, and discuss the news, not just have it handed to us with no avenue for discourse. Media outlets like Fox News that think they are fooling us are just obsoleting themselves.
March 21st, 2009 at 9:05 amwhat’s the matter brit, afraid of a little healthy competition?
March 21st, 2009 at 9:30 amThe competition posed by blogs and the internet in general is not healthy for Brit or any of the components of the main stream media. It is the birth of internet democracy.
March 21st, 2009 at 9:40 amYup, deeply inarticulate, seething with crazed hate for liberals, and unwilling to engage in a real debate because he knows with 100% certainty that he’d lose. That’s the sad state of our Olbermann-obsessed Rebecca Habib Fred Archie Garvin Philby Lobo Bovine troll.
I’m not sure how much of that state can be blamed on Fox News, though. There’s Michael Savage to consider. Rush Limbaugh. Probably other hate radio personalities as well.

Britt should know what he’s talking about on this issue. As a practicing purveyor of partisanship I’m sure he would make himself available to help the next generation of Fox news readers to sort and select the news with impunity.
March 21st, 2009 at 10:18 amWith the mainstream news media firmly in the pocket of the Bush administration, imagine what would have happened in the past 8 years without internet blogs attempting to expose the truth at every turn.
If internet blogs had existed in the 1930’s Hitler would have never become dictator.
If internet blogs had not existed in the 21st century, George W. Bush would have become the next Hitler.
March 21st, 2009 at 10:59 amEven with the blogs, Bush became the next Hitler.
March 21st, 2009 at 11:16 amI’m sure that was the plan. But, he couldn’t actually become dictator while the MSM propaganda machine was constantly being disputed by the uncontrolled “alternative” information outlets. After a while the general public even became aware that bloggers were consistently scooping the MSM, and they started paying attention. Everyone started saying, “Wait a minute. Why is the MSM, with all of their vast resources failing to report on so many things? What are you people uo to? Maybe these bloggers are more forthright and dependable than the MSM.” This is something the neocon fascists never expected, and it was the ruination of their master plan.
March 21st, 2009 at 11:28 amDon’t think that fascists like Brit Hume were aware of the plan to make George W. Bush dictator. Until the election of 2004, I used to watch his show. It was perfectly obvious that he was in on it. Now, he and the rest of the American media fascists are all whining like little girls because the bloggers stopped them from anointing George W. Bush dictator perpetuo
March 21st, 2009 at 11:41 amSorry,

March 21st, 2009 at 2:20 pmWe live in the Chicago area and for DECADES – the Chicago Tribune force-fed us all with their self-serving conservative swill. If that paper had ever been impartial, you wouldn’t know it to read it. Vomitous Conservative Swill became an unpalatable option to us and we stopped buying the papers more than ten years ago.
Most of the major newspapers in the US followed this same self-serving template. And Hume and all the other liars on the right are in the same boat. They are following their own agenda of self-serving interests. Of course Hume knows he’s lying — but he’ll never admit it.

March 22nd, 2009 at 2:39 amWell, I knew it was coming. In fact, I predicted it quite a long time ago when I said that Amanda Terkel would impose a one-size-fits-all model on how society should function. And now that she has, we must truly get us out of the hammerlock that Terkel is holding us in. Let me begin by citing a range of examples from the public sphere. For starters, Terkel’s a financial predator who preys on the elderly, the gullible, and the vulnerable. She seeks their assets to support her own lavish lifestyle. Keep that in mind while I state the following: By Terkel’s standards, if you have morals, believe that character counts, and actually raise your own children—let alone teach them to be morally fit—you’re definitely an incomprehensible, contemptuous witling. My standards—and I suspect yours as well—are quite different from hers. For instance, I clearly avouch that Terkel’s toadies are too lazy to help people break free of Terkel’s cycle of oppression. They just want to sit back, fasten their mouths on the public teats, and casually forget that I have begged Terkel’s foot soldiers to step forth and exert a positive influence on the type of world that people will live in a thousand years from now. To date, not a single soul has agreed to help in this fashion. Are they worried about how Terkel might retaliate? As you no doubt realize, that’s a particularly timely question. In fact, just half an hour ago I heard someone express the opinion that Terkel and her habitués are, by nature, empty-headed, irritable gaberlunzies. Not only can that nature not be changed by window-dressing or persiflage, but Terkel demands obeisance from her acolytes. Then, once they prove their loyalty, Terkel forces them to exhibit a deep disdain for all people who are not condescending, perfidious twits.
As a practical matter, the things Terkel wants to do are unfair, if not illegal. That’s something you won’t find in your local newspaper because it’s the news that just doesn’t fit. As brassbound as her loyalists may be, they are also the most craven blackguards I’ve ever seen. In point of fact, she says that she needs a little more time to clean up her act. As far as I’m concerned, her time has run out. To close, let me accentuate that if we defend with dedication and ferocity the very rights that Amanda Terkel so desperately wants to abolish we shall not only survive Terkel’s attacks; we shall prevail.
March 23rd, 2009 at 9:03 pmI am amazed at how scared you liberals are , FOX really scares the shit out of you !!!! But you don’t worry abit how the main stream media blows hot air up your ass !!!
