Of course Israel does not want us to make overtures to their worst enemy. They think it is their interest to keep us from having any but the most poisonous relationship with Iran.
It’s like the enemy of my enemy is my friend. And they want us tied to them permanently without making progress in the middle east. We cannot do that. Not anymore. The world gets smaller all the time in terms of the danger of nuclear weapons. We need a dialogue with everyone. Even the ones we don’t like. Especially those. The old saw. Hold your friends close and your enemies closer.

We will always be tied with Israel. But it should not be at the expense of going along with everything they do. Sometimes they are profoundly wrong. Things are difficult enough without comments from Israel making them worse. Deliberately.
