During a Saturday interview with WWTC 1280 AM flagged by Smart Politics, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) slammed President Obama’s cap and trade plan, warning that it would have “the impact of forever changing our country.” She was particularly incensed that the bill was meant to address global warming, which she flatly denied was a human-caused problem:
BACHMANN: And actually, we want this debate because the science is on our side on this one. And the science indicates that human activity is not the cause of all this global warming. And that in fact, nature is the cause, with solar flares, etc.
Instead of merely opposing the legislation, however, Bachmann compared Washington, D.C. to “enemy lines” and urged her supporters to become “armed and dangerous” and fight a “revolution” against cap and trade legislation:
BACHMANN: And really now in Washington, I’m a foreign correspondent in enemy lines. And I try to keep everyone back here in Minnesota know exactly the nefarious activities that are taking place in Washington. [...]
I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax because we need to fight back. Thomas Jefferson told us, having a revolution every now and then is a good thing, and the people — we the people — are going to have to fight back hard if we’re not going to lose our country. And I think this has the potential of changing the dynamic of freedom forever in the United States.
Listen here. Bachmann’s global warming denial comes at 3:52; her call for armed revolution begins at 9:40:
This is just the latest evidence of Bachmann’s disdain and disrespect for America’s government. Last fall, she unwittingly caused a firestorm after saying she was “absolutely” concerned that then-candidate Barack Obama “may have anti-American views,” and called for a McCarthy-like investigation into “anti-American” elements in Congress. “I think people would love to see an exposé like that,” she told MSNBC’s Chris Matthews.
Apparently “traditional American values,” which Bachmann insists she represents, include endorsing the armed overthrow of our own “enemy” government.
What makes this scary is that this woman actually believes what she says. She’s not just spouting talking points… she actually believes what comes out of her mouth.
March 23rd, 2009 at 1:53 pmAnd really now in Washington, I’m a foreign correspondent in enemy lines.
Um, no you’re not. You’re a flipping idiot who needs to be ran out of Washington.
March 23rd, 2009 at 1:53 pmYou don’t get it honey. We and Obama ARE the revolution. You greedy pigf*****s are the disease Jefferson spoke of.
March 23rd, 2009 at 1:54 pmraynman, if she believes so much in what she says, then why is she always trying to crawfish away from what she says?
She’ll be screaming “out of context” by the morning.
March 23rd, 2009 at 1:55 pmBachmann is a PSYCHO F**KTARD!
March 23rd, 2009 at 1:55 pmShe’d sell the planet to the devil to avoid cognitive dissonance.
March 23rd, 2009 at 1:55 pmSedition, noun
March 23rd, 2009 at 1:56 pm1. incitement of discontent or rebellion against a government.
2. any action, esp. in speech or writing, promoting such discontent or rebellion.
3. Archaic. rebellious disorder.
Is it just me or do her rantings seem to fall well wihin this definition? Hello, FBI? Do I have a prospect for You!
My friends in MN are totally embarrassed by this idiot.
March 23rd, 2009 at 1:59 pmYet, when people stood up and started changing this country for the better, in other words, a REVOLUTION, she wanted us all in jail for crimes against America.
But cap-and-trade, a small issue in terms of the scope of the geo-political, is enough to get angry enough to start arming yourselves and having a bloody revolution.
She’s right; Thomas Jefferson was right; revolutions are necessary, once about every twenty years. We’re having ours already for this generation- she’s just sore that she’s not in on it.

March 23rd, 2009 at 2:01 pmRep(rehensible) Bachmann IS armed and dangerous. Her mouth is open and nonsense is continually gushing forth.
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:01 pmBACHMANN: …nature is the cause…
That’s it! To stop global warming, we just need to destroy nature!

March 23rd, 2009 at 2:03 pmYou do not speak for me or a majority of Minnesotans you stupid c$nt!!! Go the f^%k away!!! Isn’t there a gay rights rally you should be spying on?
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:03 pmSo is a pastrami sandwich. But, a pastrami sandwich shouldn’t be making lesgislation in Washington.
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:03 pmThis woman is mentally ill– and unfortunately her promotion of death & violence is being heard by others like her. She, Cheney, and other Republicans who keep pushing for violence and talking about attacks are the ones who should be charged with terrorism, or at least certainly investigated, shadowed, wire-tapped, etc. to find out what they are doing. They are inciting people to kill. And isn’t attacking government what Republicans call treason?
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:04 pmI do hope that the Democrats can find a good candidate to run against her in the next election. A good candidate with a good campaign manager should be able to beat her even in a Republican-leaning district. She is, after all, an ignorant nutcase.
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:04 pm“Solar flares”??? The only thing that solar flares are doing is streaming out large quantities of astral radio waves that obviously are scrambling the bits of tinfoil flitting around in Bachmann’s head…
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:05 pmBLC- you probably have posters of her and coulter in your bedroom. You need serious help loser.
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:06 pmSo, I’m sure she backed up her assertion that “science is on our side” by producing actual scientific peer-reviewed studies by real scientists.
Oh, she didn’t? She muttered something vague about “solar flares” and moved on?
She wouldn’t know a solar flare if it came and bit her. She uses the term because it sounds sorta scientific and she seems to recall it being used in a wingnut talking point once — not realizing it’s long been debunked.
This woman proves herself a fool every time she opens her mouth. You have to be kind of impressed with that kind of consistency.
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:07 pmi don’t know whether this woman needs a lobotomy or needs her lobotomy reversed.
please someone get her some help.
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:08 pmI believe the quote she is groping for is “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

I’m not so sure about that. I can think of at least two dozen legislators – Bachmann included – whose replacement by a pastrami sandwich would be a considerable improvement for our country.
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:09 pmcuckoo.
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:10 pmIt seems the poor lady is slowly realizing that looking like a Barbie doll (with her IQ) only carries one so far when things get serious.
Just another Republican cry for help.
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:10 pmThis is just the latest evidence of Bachmann’s disdain and disrespect for America’s government.
It’s a little more serious than that. This is actually the latest evidence that Bimbo Bachmann is afflicted with multiple fatal conditions — ignorance, paranoia, terminal stupidity and an over-inflated sense of self-importance. There is little difference between her and the average right-wing radio rant-jockey except that she doesn’t get paid as much money.
And yes, Marie, we Minnesotans are very embarrassed by this vapid moron.
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:10 pmBLC, there is evidence it was colder too.
And flat.
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:11 pmThat evidence is not new. I learned about it in 8th grade science class. BTW, I did mean to burst your stupid bubble.
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:11 pmBatshit crazy. BLT, too.
PEACE
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:11 pmOkay. I get it. Well, I think I get it.
If the right continues to bombard us with “armed and dangerous” subtle hints, as well as anarchy and violence, it appears to hope for some deranged individual to carry out such threats.
It happened once to a church not long ago.
It happened down in Florida.
I do know this.
No one ever purposely wished for George W. Bush’s death.
Why, we’d be “crazed liberals” if we did.
Why the right continues to get a pass with this, I’ll never know!
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:11 pmBLC Says:
There is new evidence that the Earth was actually warmer in the past than it is now. Don’t mean to burst your little bubble, though.
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:08 pm
____________
So?
How does the fact that the Earth was warmer in the past negate the evidence that human activity in the PRESENT is significantly contributing to climate change in the PRESENT?
This is like saying that cigarettes can’t possibly cause lung cancer, because you know someone who got lung cancer from breathing asbestos dust.
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:12 pmI like the picture. It says, “Hey, I’m being serious here. I can’t help it if the crap that comes out of my mouth is silly.”

March 23rd, 2009 at 2:13 pmBLC Says:

Under normal circumstances, yes. However, as average temperatures rise, the oceans begin to act as net carbon emitters. This is why in ice core records the rise in CO2 actually lags behind the measured temperatures (a point often misused by the science deniers):

We already know she’s as dumb as a bag of hair, why does she keep proving it?
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:20 pmY’know what, Arch, the Earth’s atmosphere used to consist of primarily helium and hydrogen.
Guess that proves that man’s not responsible for air pollution, either, hm? let’s have a tire bonfire!
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:21 pmBLC Says:
If you have to ask that question you’re in over your head. The core sample that was taken that proved warmer temps were pre-hummer/alGore.
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:14 pm
___________
Wrong. The fact that you can’t answer a simple question proves that it is you who is in over your head.
Once again, how does this core sample prove that human activity is not the significant cause of the current warming trend?
All it proves is that, in the past, other factors such as Malenkovich cycles caused global warming. The fact that orbital cycles and other causes causes led to a warming trend in the past is irrelevant to the current warming trend.
March 23rd, 2009 at 2:22 pm“Do you still ride a horse? Or is it a donkey?”
BLC still sleeps in trees at night.

March 23rd, 2009 at 2:35 pmDid Michele just violate H.R. 1955: The Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007. She voted for that bill. It never became law.
The bill passed the House but not the Senate. It sought to identify “homegrown terrorists” that advocate “ideologically based violence”.
Armed and dangerous sounds like Bachmann is inciting violence.

March 23rd, 2009 at 3:03 pmI have an idea. Let’s get them to pass a law allowing fictional characters to be elected to Congress. They would have to vote according to their documented fictionality (like Jefferson Smith), they wouldn’t be swayed by lobbyists or special interests, and the campaigns and security would be minimized because you can’t shoot a figment.

It’s also amusing for a woman to site the founders’ intent when the idea of women’s suffrage wasn’t even a thought. Flash Jefferson forward to now and nevermind all the technology, what the hell is a woman doing holding office.

March 23rd, 2009 at 5:04 pmOne question? Is there anyway to finally get rid of Archie/Lobo/BLC, because the idiot keeps coming back.
And Truthfully Im tired of hearing about Bachmann, her vile stupidity gives me a headache trying to figure out how she remembers to breathe
March 23rd, 2009 at 5:16 pmI am a, sometimes, proud Minnesotan and live just a few blocks outside Crazy Shelly’s district. I despise her and think she should be locked up and treated. However, it should be noted that the local media doesn’t cover her insane ravings.
So? Before one condemns Minnesotans, or the good people of the 6th District, please consider that most of those who vote for her never learn anything about her except that she’s a “good Christian”.
She won her first nomination by signing up members of her church as delegates. She has benefited from allied preachers endorsing her from the pulpit and the inexplicable silence of the local media.
The whole sad, sordid, story can be found here:

Why not? Hell they have a Senator with most of his brain rotted by booze and cancer still being propped up to vote. I’ll take the pastrami sandwich scenario over that.

You are the most ignorant disgusting piece of garbage I have ever seen. Time for you to go kill yourself. Do the world the only favor someone as patently ignorant and congenitally stupid as you can manage. Throw yourself off a tall skyscraper and let the entire world give a sigh of relief that a disgusting, diseased, punk like you is finally vexing decent people no more.
March 23rd, 2009 at 5:34 pmpete, every state has its idiots in public office. We’ve got Herbie over here. And Tommy.
March 23rd, 2009 at 5:35 pmI am in this disgusting woman’s district in central Minnesota. She is horrifying us on a weekly basis. We need your help!
Please call her office and say you live in Minnesota and that you disagree with this, (or whatever else she says that is not accurate, which is everything) and are horrified by her ignorance on climate change.
D.C. number:
Washington, DC 20515
Phone: (202) 225-2331
Fax: (202) 225-6475
MN number:
Waite Park, MN 56387
Phone: 320-253-5931
Fax: 320-240-6905
If they want a city, say you either live in St. Cloud, or Waite Park, and if they want a zip code, give 56301 or 56303 or 56387 for Waite Park.
Please call her office and complain! Please help us smack down this hysterical super-religious nutcase. The progressives/liberals that live in her district are only slightly outnumbered by her fans, but outnumbered we are. My goal in life is to see her defeated and out of Congress.
March 23rd, 2009 at 5:42 pmPete, she does need treatment, she is delusional and dangerous. Meanwhile, let’s flood her offices with complaints. I think she thinks everyone in MN loves her ugly face. She makes me sick to my stomach just to look at her. Remember “We’re running out of rich people!”
We’re actually running out of smart people. She’s like FOX news, she makes people dumber.
March 23rd, 2009 at 5:44 pmI’ll catch some heat for this but if I was attacked by a rabid, aged caribou, I am not sure whether Michelle or Sara would laugh loudest.

Hey, I thought I was! You lied!

No I didnt. I just treat all you trolls as if you were the same person since you all share the same vile, substandard hivemind.

Pete, she does need treatment, she is delusional and dangerous. Meanwhile, let’s flood her offices with complaints.
Unfortunately, her offices have caller ID. Her website is non-responsive and I’m pretty sure that any mail is burned before reading. Not to mention that she’s far beyond influence from the reality based community in any case.
Personally, I think it’s more effective to contact one’s own Representatives and call for censure re. her treasonous call for investigations of her fellow lawmakers. Her colleagues are the only ones who can hold her in check, until the next election.
In the meantime? We, the sane people of Minnesota, need to find a way to coerce the local media into honestly reporting her hateful rhetoric and psychotic behavior. The offices that need to be flooded are those of local TV, radio, and newspapers.
WCCO: radio and television.
KSTP: radio and television.
KMSP TV
KARE TV
St. Paul Pioneer Press
Minneapolis Star/Tribune
Those are the big dogs of local media. We need to put them to work for us. And, if you have a crazy lawmaker of your own, Sen Grassley for example, post a similar list for those of us who want to help fight stupidity/insanity in government. Voters won’t make wise decisions if they are not informed of the candidate’s real character by local sources they trust. A one minute segment on the local news can succeed where thousands of angry letters fail.
March 23rd, 2009 at 6:29 pmAnd really now in Washington, I’m a foreign correspondent in enemy lines.
anti-american, the cia needs to investigate her.
March 23rd, 2009 at 7:02 pmBachmann should be investigated by Congress for advocating terrorist activity.
March 23rd, 2009 at 7:18 pmA) That evidence is not remotely new.
March 23rd, 2009 at 7:22 pmB) Evidence also concludes that the Earth has been much colder as well.
C) It is the SPEED of the temperature change that is unprecedented, and is caused by us, not the actual temperature itself.
D) Animals, plants, microorganisms, etc, that were adapted to that temperature, and the results of a planet existing in that temperature such as oxygen levels, nitrogen levels, moisture levels, and so on, lived at that time period.
E) We are not one of those organisms.
F) Thus, the Earth will survive just fine. Life will go on. Life as it currently exists, however, will not.
G) Try to draw a logical conclusion from the above information, and see where it leads you.
It is time for progressives to do more than just contact their local elected officials and complain. It is time to initiate formal complaints withe the DOJ and FBI, as well as let the Republicans know what we feel about a representative of their party inciting violence and armed insurrection:

BLC logic/syllogism analyzed:
1. Carbon dioxide emissions were not the primary cause of global warming in the past.
2. Therefore, they cannot be the cause of global warming in the present.
Well, this syllogism doesn’t very well.
1. in the past, other factors such as Malenkovich cycles caused global warming
2. Therefore, those past factors are the only factors that cause global warming.
This isn’t any better.
BLC needs some way to get from 1 to 2 if he wants to be taken seriously.
Logical Fallacies committed:
Fallacy of the single cause.
Hasty generalization.
Proof by assertion.
We can easily use a proof by contradiction to show that this type of reasoning is invalid and unacceptable. However, it was already done above.

March 23rd, 2009 at 8:01 pmI think Briseadh na Faire (No. 107) hit the nail on the head — by inciting her constituents to riot, Bachmann has not only broken the law, she has violated her oath of office to uphold the Constitution.
If you live in her district, please ask the House Ethics Committee to investigate your Congresswoman because you think she’s a danger to the nation. This site — http://ethics.house.gov/ContactUs/Contact.aspx?Section=Mail — has contact info.

March 23rd, 2009 at 8:17 pmThe, so-called, “controversy” over mankind’s contribution to climate change comes from three sources.
1. The energy industry.
2. Religious fundamentalists.
3. GOP politicians.
Obviously, these groups are not mutually exclusive. In fact, the first group uses the other two to achieve their goals. I recently read a story examining a list of “scientists” who reject the idea of anthropogenic climate change. (I’ll post the link if I can find it) Every single one had unbreakable ties to one or more of these three groups. None of them were climatologists and most had degrees from less than stellar scientific institutions. Many, in fact, hold honorary degrees or worthless parchements from religious “schools”.
But, what pisses me off the most? The fact that the GOP has used their hate for all things “librul”, and Al Gore in particular, to justify a policy of anti-environmentalism and they flat-out lie to promote it. They are willing to destroy the environment, the only one we humans can survive in, for political gains. Eight critical years have been wasted and it may, in fact, now be too late to act.
March 23rd, 2009 at 8:21 pmBachmann: This good looking consertive is going to insite a violent overthrow. The old boys down a the Grizzley bar and grill are going to get all worked up over this. I can imagine they are dying laughing over the whole thing. I like to hear some of the jokes. The RNC keeps it up and they are going to be laughed right out of office.

1859 !
In 1859, John Tyndall’s laboratory experiments showed that water vapour and carbon dioxide absorb infra-red radiation and that they could therefore affect the climate of the Earth.
Some people desperately need to catch up. It’s not good to be behind the Civil War in terms of science knowledge ! (e.g. Bachman, the right wing fringe… )

March 23rd, 2009 at 8:38 pmHi pete
March 23rd, 2009 at 8:57 pmI got a drake Barrow’s goldeneye the other day. That is a tough one for me.
Good evening, dbadass.
Some of the smaller ponds are ice free around here. All kinds of waterfowl. I even caught a glimpse of a white heron or egret though it was too distant to positively identify.
March 23rd, 2009 at 9:26 pmThis woman is completely insane & has been bred by an incubus. Do not listen to anything she ever says; because she is impregnated by satan & bears false witness in God’s name—-by calling herself “a fool for Christ.” She is only a fool, who will give birth to satan’s spawn.
March 23rd, 2009 at 9:52 pmTodays AP story on the EPAs upcoming climate report amkes it clear that Bachman and her ilk do not have “science” on their side. Fear, misinformation, hysteria, that they have…but science? Sorry Michelle.
By the by, I was talking to an old Army pal who lives in Bachman’s district a few weeks ago (he is Republican, but I like him anyway), and he believes Bachman’s bat-shit looney act is catching up with her – he said the local party people are backing away, and he expects a large influx of Dem dollars next election cycle. “Please,” he said “don’t make the mistake of thinking we’re all like her.”
March 23rd, 2009 at 10:16 pmsomeone tell Bachmann we had a revolution. A peaceful revolution in November and she lost. And by the way I think in her latest rhetoric is not as she would say “pro-america”.

Now THAT was funny.
March 24th, 2009 at 6:32 amUnder the policies of the Bush administration, Bachmann’s statements consitute a threat to the President of the United States and foments terror against the Government of United States. Free speech? Certainly. At least as much as crying fire in a crowded theater is considered free speech. Effectively, given her statements and her position of leadership, she meets the criteria to be identified as an “enemy combatant”. She can be aprehended, denied council, extrodinarilly renditioned to any country of the President’s choice, or taken to Guantonamo Bay and denied the right to trial, and no one has the right to know her whereabouts or to any information regarding her detention. For that matter, no one has the right to know she is being detained! If the President decrees her an “enemy combatant”, she simply disappears! Viva Le Bush!
March 24th, 2009 at 8:51 amShe nothing more then a ‘urban terrorist’ that is trying to incite people against OUR government. Isn’t that considered treason?
March 24th, 2009 at 11:36 amThis might be the dumbest person in Congress. And that’s saying something.

March 24th, 2009 at 12:09 pmWow! You Demo-rats are pathetically sad. It amazes me how the supposed ‘intellectual elite’ can be so far off-base in your understanding of simple issues.
1. Global warming is NOT a fact, it is theory. Man-made (anthropogenic) warming is NOT verified and in fact relies on the false premise (repeated over and over in the “Goracle”-led media) that CO2 is the ‘leading greenhouse gas in the atmosphere’. WRONG. That would be H2O, or ‘water vapor’ for you intellectual elites…
2. Bush and Republicans did NOT cause the financial crisis. That would be Barney Fwank and his former lover at Fannie-Mae (talk about conflict of interest!) who in the late 90s loosed the regulations on the mortgage industry and secondary market and DIRECTLY created the subprime crisis, in the name of providing ‘affordable mortgages to all american families’. You libs got what you asked for: all the losers who just want government handouts got the mortgages they were ‘entitled’ to, then walked away. Result: housing bust and “toxic assets”.
3. Demo-rats enabled the AIG bonus debacle. And then lied to cover their a$$es. Sen. Chris Dodd(ge) actually said “I didn’t lie… I was misconstrued.” Laughable if it wasn’t so pathetic!
4. While you worry about ‘armed and dangerous’ constituents of Bachmann, Sen. Ted Kennedy gets your heroism ring. He is a murderer (ask the family of Mary Jo Kopechne, who Ted drove off a bridge in his car, then left to die in the water while he went home to SLEEP). He fought AGAINST wind energy off the coast of cape cod because he likes to sail his yacht through those waters. What an American hero.
5. Your revolutionary leader Obama is making a fool of himself. His “no preconditions before direct talks with foreign leaders” policy has ALREADY got him embarrassingly rebuffed from Russia (on negotiating missile defense shield) and Iran (on nuclear program). But you intellectual elites probably still think that an unaccomplished community organizer/part time congressman isn’t too wet behind the ears! (and those are some BIG ears)
Morons – you should have been more careful what you asked for because you got it (and now infected the rest of us).
March 24th, 2009 at 3:46 pmAre you aware that you had this “comments” section turned on for the duration of Bush’s presidency?
March 25th, 2009 at 7:14 amYou have to be truly stupid or insane to believe this.
You think banks all over the world failed and entire nordic economies collapsed because uncreditworthy people in the US took out mortgages?
Or maybe those mortgages were securitised and resold repeatedly in an unregulated market that was larger in value that all the world’s economies and assets combined, while being falsely overvalued as to their risk?
It’s one of the two.
Have the balls to say it’s the first one, unicorn boy.
March 25th, 2009 at 7:22 amYeah, but be sure not to mention you heard about this on ThinkProgress. Where anyone looking to find mention of people encouraging the overthrow of the goverment will have many, many, many years of posts to search through before they find this one.
What’s next, you want to complain that people are being too hard on one particular cable news channel?
March 25th, 2009 at 7:28 amEveryone please read this. There is a possibility this might be streamed live —
Michele Bachmann is planning a “climate forum” in my city, St. Cloud. It will be a skeptics and anti-science presentation, obviously….
“Bachmann, R-Minn., will host two forums April 9 on global climate change and President Barack Obama’s proposed carbon emissions cap-and-trade tax. The first will be at 1 p.m. in the Cascade Room of the Atwood Center at St. Cloud State. The other will be later in the afternoon in Woodbury.
Bachmann has invited Chris Horner, senior fellow and author at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank, to be a guest at both events. He is a lawyer and counsel to the Cooler Heads Group, a global warming skeptics subsidiary of CEI.”

March 26th, 2009 at 4:42 pmS3N quote: “Or maybe those mortgages were securitised and resold repeatedly in an unregulated market that was larger in value that all the world’s economies and assets combined, while being falsely overvalued as to their risk?”
Wow, you CAN think! Though intellect seems to fail you when following simple LOGIC. Who do you think led the way to the securitization you cite and CREATED all those derivative markets?! hint: the answer is “Fannie”. By an odd coincidence, it is also the answer to where S3N’s brains appear to be located. There are few things worse than mental LIGHTWEIGHTS posing as intellectual elites. Pony up S3N – who directed the congressional committees overseeing Fannie, Freddie and the financial system and opened the doors for those derivatives? Go down in flames of denial if you must – why do libs like you have to drag everyone around you down too?
March 26th, 2009 at 8:57 pmStupid + Twisted + Brainwashed is not = mentally ill. Let’s leave mental illness out of this. Bachmann is consciously doing this, in spite of a relatively normal ability to get a grip on reality. Come to think of it, that makes her way, way, way scarier.
