Fox News VP: Fox is ‘the voice of opposition’ to the Obama administration.

Though Fox News is widely known to be biased in favor of conservatism, the network likes to claim that is “fair and balanced” and that the objectivity of the “hard news” they do is “is not in question.” But in an interview with NPR, Fox News’ Senior Vice President for Programming, Bill Shine, admitted that the network is consciously aiming to be “the voice of opposition” to the Obama administration “on some issues”:

“There were a couple of people who basically wrote about our demise come last November (and) December and were, I guess, rooting for us to go away,” said Bill Shine, senior vice president for programming at the Fox News Channel. “With this particular group of people in power right now, and the honeymoon they’ve had from other members of the media, does it make it a little bit easier for us to be the voice of opposition on some issues?”

Fox News has wasted no time in opposing the Obama administration’s agenda. For example, the network has unleashed a steady drum beat of misinformation and propaganda against the Employee Free Choice Act. In fact, when it comes to challenging the Obama administration, Fox News CEO Roger Ailes has compared the network to “the Alamo.”

So Fox is finally admitting its not news?

    :|

    Cool.

  2. McWars says:

Fixed News is the voice of opposition to logic, facts, objectivity, tolerance & sanity, so naturally they will oppose the Obama administration.

Rupert Murdoch should be arrested! Media ownership laws should be reinstated and strongly regulated!
    FOX lies!
    Turn FOX off!

  4. normalasf says:

So does this mean that using an old video clip of Joe Biden was NOT an unfortunate error?

  5. a0d7fzz says:

    Fox sucks
    Fox watchers suck

  6. McWars says:

I laughed out loud when I heard a toady exclaimed “Thank God for Fox News!” with a straight face. Came during split-screen debate w/ Bob Beckel. I love comedy, but I need to stop flipping past that channel.

  7. sacopenapa says:

    Media ownership regulations now!

    “I HOPE YOU FAIL!”
    For the sake of journalism,
    “I HOPE YOU FAIL!”
For the sake of the Nation,
    “I HOPE YOU FAIL!”
For the sake of the truth,
    “I HOPE YOU FAIL!”

  9. The Dogfather says:

Actually, I think Ailes compared Faux News not to The Alamo, but instead to Alamo — you know, the #5 car rental company in the country?

Unless he meant that in the end, everyone in Faux News is gonna die inside their building — creepy, but he said it, not me…

  10. Ojore says:

If Fox’s (and the Republicans’) points were so valid, why the plethora of misinformation? Why do they need to lie to be in opposition? I mean, isn’t this the main question?

  11. Max-1 says:

    .

    Q U E S T I O N:
If FOXPRAVDA is fair and balanced from one point of view so as to placate the conservative movement, how are they NOT a biased partisan propaganda media outlet?

  12. Levi the Oracle says:

I went to visit my wife’s sister, and her husband, to meet their new baby, and play with my niece. When I arrived Fox News was playing on their big screen television. When they played their “fair and balanced” promo I forgot myself and scoffed out loud. I had forgotten that I was in the home of a Baptist wingnut. It led to a very good conversation, where it was apparent my sister in law realized Fox News was neither fair nor balanced, but her husband thought otherwise.

My sister in law is better educated than her husband, and her husband was born into the Baptist faith and forced my sister in law to join his religion before they could get married.

Fox is literally driving a wedge between family members almost like families that split over the slavery issue during our first civil war.

  13. fletc3her says:

I don’t think anybody thought Fox was going to “go away”. The question was whether they were going to continue with their right wing slant or if they were going to toady up to the new administration the way they did to the outgoing administration. Does Fox consider itself a right wing propaganda outlet or an administration propaganda outlet? At least for the moment they seem to be sticking with the right wing slant.

  17. ralph the wonder llama says:

I take it they’re not claiming to have been “the voice of the opposition” to President Bush, huh?

I mean, let’s not get carried away with this “fourth estate” nonsense.

  18. kasinca says:

Wack jobs. President Obama won the election and inherited the destruction left behind by the inept, incompetent, maroons of the Bush Crime Family. I am left to assume anyone who is against cleaning up crime, corruption, and wrong headedness is not very smart or patriotic. I guess I nailed 99.9% of the the conservatives in this country.

  19. Hoodathunk says:

Thank goodness. Now Fox can finally use that neat stylized swastika for their on air logo. They paid good money to have it designed, ya know.

  20. Hoodathunk says:

Does this mean all of their on air personnel can now wear their cool brown shirts?

  21. Rodeskawler says:

The Seven “Nations” of Political Talk
    http://research.yale.edu/environment/leiserowitz/page17.html

Just a few weeks prior to the 2008 elections, we conducted a nationally representative survey of 2,164 American adults aged 18+. This was a period of heightened political interest and discussion, due to the historic campaigns of then Senators Barack Obama and John McCain. Among many other questions, we asked respondents how often they watch or listen to six of the major political commentators in the media today: Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity & Alan Colmes, Bill O’Reilly, John Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Keith Olberman.

What follows is an analysis of the size, political leanings, demographic characteristics, values and attitudes of each “nation” of political talk within the United States. Please note that there is some overlap between these different audiences, with some Americans who tune in to more than one commentator. We have also compared the characteristics of each audience to the much larger proportion of the public (57%) who do not watch or listen to any of these commentators.

How many of us pays to have FOX on cable or dish one way or another right now through bundled service? Is this not part of the problem, and the solution?

  24. Rodeskawler says:

Of course Fox wuill continue to be the sounding board for republican talking points.

The fascist propaganda machine came out of the last two elections unscathed and recently got a big thumbs up from the Senate when they refused to consider the fairness doctrine and decided not to take away the special privileges they gave to Rupert in exchange for all of his bribes.

It was just their lackeys that didn’t fair too well.

  25. Bob says:

Good news for the unemployable partisan hacks from the previous admin. I wonder when they’ll hire Gonzalas as a legal analyst. Its credibility will not drop any lower: it can’t.

    WAYNEBRO Says:
    ——————————————————————————–

So Fox is finally admitting its not news?

Oh no, they won’t do that, not after going to court in order to legally lie and still call themselves ‘news’.

  28. robbez_92107 says:

But, but, but what ever happened to “it is treasonous not to support the president during wartime?”

    Oh, yeah. IOKIYAR.

  29. Hoodathunk says:

I have to admit I am confused here. Does this mean when I go to the menu on my cable selector I’ll have a new selection for propaganda?

  30. paleolib says:

I was going to point out that Ailes might not want to compare his little network to a military engagement in which the side to which he is comparing himself got wiped out. Then I remembered that the Alamo was occupied by a bunch of imperialist cowboys trying to establish the primacy of the “pure” white race against Mexicans and to keep Texas safe for slavery whose military ineptitude led to their own demise. That sounds a lot like the Bush administration so maybe Roger was onto something after all.

  31. shoeless says:

Hmmm, that’s funny, Josef Goebbels also freely discussed his open use of propaganda.

  32. Mathazar says:

I reckon they ought to just change their moniker to FOX OPINION, and avoid any pretense.

  33. backup says:

Fox has always slanted right. What’s more remarkable is the recent CNN coverage. I have always felt CNN slanted slightly left, but lately their coverage seems more oppositional to the administration than Fox.

I assume the reason is that CNN, and others in the MSM, perform a truth to power function. Since Democrats are in power, the coverage seems oppositional. There isn’t much Republican power to scrutinize.

  34. Badger says:

    Heresy Alert:

I think Fox News is Good for Obama and the Progressives.

    1. If their criticism of Obama is Lame…(Obama is a Muslim or Not a Citizen, for example)….Fox becomes a Foil to illustrate its own Stupidity.

    2. If their criticism of Obama is Plausible ( rare but possible) then Obama can use his Considerable Communication Skills to Explain or Refine his Positions.

    3. If the right wing crazies are watching TV, they are not out doing real harm to the Nation.

    4. If these same crazies see their point of view presented on TV, the are less likely to go Nihilistic or Violent.

    5. We can all keep an eye on them, and see what they are up to.

  38. Krazny says:

Actually FOX news would be more like the Pravda of the republican party. Apologies if this comparison has already been made.

  41. stateofthedivision says:

Besides running away from George W. Bush during last fall’s elections, Repugnicants say Bush wasn’t a conservative.

If that’s the case, why wasn’t Fox, the conservative channel, the voice of opposition during Bush’s reign of terror?

  42. Ape-Man says:

We just need to round up the FOX network people and all their loyal viewers, and provide them transportation to the middle east to battle the extremists there. They would clean annihilate each other like matter and anti-matter – no waste, no polution, and two problems solved for the price of one.

  43. Leftside Annie says:

Fox is ‘the voice of opposition’ to the Obama administration.

Ah. Mr. Shine has a serious talent for understatement.

  44. Max-1 says:

  45. dbearton says:

Faux news is a fraud and should have its license revoked. CEO Roger Ailes should have papers served for criminal activity. As long as Ailes conducts massive fraudulent activity on a broadcast, the RICO Act should be imposed and Ailes should be a target for prison along with members of his staff. Like Michael Milken, Roger Ailes should be indicted for racketeering and fraud.

  46. Krazny says:

I don’t think Fox should have its license pulled. I just think they should be required to run a ticker that takes up at least 1/6″ of the screen saying in large red letters “for entertainment purposes only!”.

  47. Max-1 says:

  48. tombaker says:

maybe fat, ugly billionaire ailes, or his ugly billionaire boss rupert would like to try to run for office somewhere to prove they’re not just utterly full of sh*t, as long as they’re going to run a political party instead of a broadcast network.

  49. mk3872 says:

They also admitted their bias on NPR today.

Problem is, that Folkenflik did not take them to task for such outright hope-the-president-fails rhetoric while they speak out the other side of their mouths claiming to be Fair & Balanced or that they don’t wish for the prez to fail.

  50. Dirty Hippie says:

  51. Nevar says:

“Fox News CEO Roger Ailes has compared the network to “the Alamo.””

Yes, well, we all know what happened there…

  52. DallasNE says:

Fox News just dares the FCC to step in and crack down. These are, after all, publically licensed air waves they are broadcasting on so they are regulated. In recent past the FCC has limited it’s scorn and heavy fine to bare boobs, like happened with CBS when Janet Jackson had a wardrobe malfunction. What Fox News is doing here is far more damaging than a bare boob.

  53. flight says:

When the New york Post ran the chimp political cartoon, I wonder if their add and circulation departments were consulted. Think about it. At present readership and advertisement are down, and they insulted a fairly large spectrun of readership. Even if it was only 10% to 20%, in times like these every nickle counts. I gather a certian smug satisfaction in knowing that they are paying in hard cash for the conservitive statement they made.
So to with FOX News. I will be calling my cable provider and insisting that I am not going to pay for this Bull!@$#.
I should not be forced to subsidise FOX, MSNBC or CNBC. If only a small portion follow suit, the message will hit home.

“You guys just shot yourselves in the foot”. They may not care about fair News Reporting, but they truely love their money, even more than country!!!

  56. labman57 says:

The current overall philosophy of the GOP and its media puppet FOX News is little more than political contrarianism. If Obama says “black”, they say “white” (no pun intended).
Another reason why the Republican Party is rapidly becoming irrelevant.

  57. MapleStreet says:

  60. The Moderate Squad says:

And I kind of like that – you just keep driving righties to the middle, because the sensible are embarrassed by you and ashamed to be lumped in with you.

  68. Angellight says:

What most people are not discerning is, is that Pres. Obama is somehow aiding us in facing this “shadow” or darkness of greed in our society. He is not trying to Hide it or Cover it up! Ironically, he is being blamed for not trying to Fix it in a hurry, so it will not be Exposed….. But to truly fix it, we must face it, identify it and generate enough public consensus so that it can be changed. That is how change is made. That is why I see Pres. Obama as really a true change agent. True and lasting change can only come from the people, demanding change. That is why Obama can laugh, he knows that the fat cats days are numbered!

Now GOP’s new buzz word is “unsustainable”, however, what was really “unsustainable” as the recent events so adequately portray is that George Bush’s Iraq War, tax cuts to the wealthy, jobs going over seas, tax breaks to companies that shipped jobs over seas, deregulation of banks and insurance companies, and more (which I will leave to the experts to flush out), is the really true Unsustainable and break down and collapse of our economic system, fabric of society (bridges, roads, jobs, education), you name it, he failed in all aspects of this society. There are “tent” cities popping up all over United States because families can no longer sustain to live in a house because they no longer have a job!

This new buzz word “unsustainable” is a hoax, disingenous and hypocritical. Remember, they want Pres. Obama to Fail!

And lastly, let’s be Clear, George W. Bush’s first year in office was spent more at the Ranch then in Washington. May be if he had spent more time in D.C. working, they would have been more alert about the signs leading to 9/11.

  69. Anders says:

when you accuse fox of being conservative, can you please make sure to put “conservative” in ironic quotation marks please ?

If fox is conservative then how come they were cheerleaders of Bush, who grew the size of government 3 fold, started 2 wars and were itching to start a 3rd in Iran, doubled the deficit, bailed out the banks etc etc etc, measured by any yard stick this is not conservative, it’s the opposite of conservative.

Neo-conservative, would be a better description.

  70. Anders says:

actually, ‘republican statists’ would be a good description of Fox news.

  71. LizCoro says:

So fox’s position is to OPPOSE Mr. Obama even if they must resort to LYING . .

    Anyone SURPRISED??

Duh, to recap, we all know this PARTISAN LYING opposition started with President Clinton. Remember the GOP ‘RULE OF LAW’ position that had to be upheld . .

  72. blood1 says:

Now that FOX has revealed their real mission plan, we need a volunteer, one who does not currently suffer from high blood pressure, to watch FOX early AM and take notes and post them…as then we will have the GOP talking points for the day and the majority of us will not have to suffer through all the rhetoric.

    Any volunteers?

Rupert, Roger and their twisted minions have created more than the ultimate tool of obstruction for the Obama administration. Far more.

Together, Fox News represents real American CHRISTIAN values. It is something they are very proud of and their advertisers must be also because they do not lack for money.

What a comfort it must be for the ChristoTalinists in their audience and on their air and cable waves to know that Jesus hates anyone who doesn’t think and act like them. And with Fox News, these same ChristoTalibanists can worship their Jesus anytime just by tuning in to Hannity, O’Reilly, Doocey, Beck and on and on and on.

    Heaven help us all.

I may not agree with everything that FOX News reports but we need someone to step up to the plate and report on our new administration. God knows that no of the other media outlets do. Chris Matthews is so far up Obama’s b**** that he can’t see clearly. I think our news media has left the building with this new administration. They need to report the news and not be bias to either side or party.

Obama is a racial-minority individual and does not like racism:

There is bad news about George Herbert Walker Bush.

What if basically all racial-minority people would subscribe to the interpretations that George Herbert Walker Bush committed monstrous, racist, hate crimes while he was the President of the United States?

It will eventually come out: it is only a matter of time.
