Al Gore to rally action around climate change with new book.

goreh.jpg Today, Al Gore announced that he will be publishing a new book, “Our Choice,” set to be released on Nov. 3, 2009. In a press release put out by his publisher, Rodale, Gore said:

An Inconvenient Truth reached millions of people with the message that the climate crisis is threatening the future of human civilization and that it must and can be solved. Now that the need for urgent action is even clearer with the alarming new findings of the last three years, it is time for a comprehensive global plan that actually solves the climate crisis. Our Choice will answer that call.

As with “An Inconvenient Truth,” Gore will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from his new book to the Alliance for Climate Protection.

Amazing how Dems use their time after office doing things for the planet and for people to the extent that they are recognized with Nobel Peace Prizes, while the GOP ex-officers just go back to whoring in the private sector. And yet the Reich somehow feels these are the people that have captured the moral high ground.

Good work, President Gore (I will always think of him as such, inasmuch as he was actually elected president)

    watchdog Says:

Misleading links between weather events and climate change:Climate is the average of weather conditions over long time periods; because the climate system is inherently variable, individual weather events are not indicative of trends. Nonetheless, Gore overwhelms the reader with many individual events, claiming this is global warming in action: a European heatwave, record daily highs in U.S. cities one summer, hurricane Katrina, floods in Europe and China, and more. To address the issue of climate change, all such events must be considered over time. As it turns out, in several cases such analysis refutes any claims of recent trends (for example, with regard to floods).
    ___________

This is the only legitimate misleading claim in Gore’s movie, and he has since toned down his language connecting climate change and specific extreme weather events occurring in the present. This does not change the prediction, however, that rising global temperatures will lead to more severe weather events in the future.

  69. hussein toasterhead says:

Gore uses another set of ice core data to claim that carbon dioxide concentrations have driven global temperatures for the last 600,000 years. He admits the actual relationship is “complicated”, which is as close as he comes to admitting the fact that the temperature changes came first, and probably helped drive the carbon dioxide changes.

    March 24th, 2009 at 2:20 pm
    __________

Gore admits that the relationship is complicated because it is:

It comes as no surprise that other factors besides CO2 affect climate. Changes in the amount of summer sunshine, due to changes in the Earth’s orbit around the sun that happen every 21,000 years, have long been known to affect the comings and goings of ice ages. Atlantic ocean circulation slowdowns are thought to warm Antarctica, also.

From studying all the available data (not just ice cores), the probable sequence of events at a termination goes something like this. Some (currently unknown) process causes Antarctica and the surrounding ocean to warm. This process also causes CO2 to start rising, about 800 years later. Then CO2 further warms the whole planet, because of its heat-trapping properties. This leads to even further CO2 release. So CO2 during ice ages should be thought of as a “feedback”, much like the feedback that results from putting a microphone too near to a loudspeaker.

In other words, CO2 does not initiate the warmings, but acts as an amplifier once they are underway. From model estimates, CO2 (along with other greenhouse gases CH4 and N2O) causes about half of the full glacial-to-interglacial warming.

Historically, CO2 has lagged behind rises in temperatures from other factors, and then has driven continued warming. However, this does not negate the fact that current CO2 increases are driving temperature rises, and far more rapidly than they did in the past. There is no precedent for the current situation, in which CO2 rose before temperature.

First snow for 100 years falls on Baghdad
    Jan 11, 2008

BAGHDAD (AFP) — Light snow fell in Baghdad early on Friday in what weather officials said was the first time in about a 100 years.

Rare snowfalls were also recorded in the west and centre of Iraq, plunging temperatures to zero degrees Centigrade (32 degrees Fahrenheit) and even colder, an official said.

The snow in Baghdad, which melted as it hit the ground, began falling before dawn and continued until after 9 am, residents said.

“Snow has fallen in Baghdad for the first time in about a century as a result of two air flows meeting,” said a statement by the meteorology department.

“The first one was cold and dry and the second one was warm and humid. They met above Iraq.”

The director of the meteorology department, Dawood Shakir, told AFP that climate change was possibly to blame for the unusual event.

“It’s very rare,” he said. “Baghdad has never seen snow falling in living memory.

“These snowfalls are linked to the climate change that is happening everywhere. We are finding some places in the world which are warm and are supposed to be cold.”

Snow was also reported in the mountainous Kurdish north of the country, where falls are common.

    ___________

Yes. I don’t think so, I know so. The Earth’s climate has changed constantly since its birth 4.5 billion years ago. Usually over very very very long periods of time during which species have had plenty of time to evolve and adapt.

It’s also occasionally changed quite rapidly, due to large asteroid strikes and other less-understood phenomena. These periods have prompted mass extinctions of up to 90% of all plant and animal species on the planet.

The overwhelming evidence points to the current warming trend as being one of the latter, and indicates that human activity is the cause.

What point were you trying to make, exactly?

If you don’t believe in global warming, fine.

But I’m recycling and walking for conservation’s sake. I’d love to have more of the earth around for my children and their children. I conserve water so that they can drink it. I conserve energy so that there’s more of it around. I conserve gasoline so I don’t pollute the air.

The point I’m making is that there are consequences in what we do. Whether it is heating the atmosphere up, changing weather patterns, polluting the world we live in, or some other effect that we haven’t even discovered yet…these are things we are still responsible for, and our consumption has to affect something on this world.

So I am dealing with it.

Al Gore and global warm-mongers have won many converts with their claim that 2,500 scientific reviewers of the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s report constitutes a “consensus” among scientists that man-made warming is destroying Earth.

UPDATE 09-03-08: Liberals have been spinning this story like crazy. See my take on their efforts.

Not only have many of those reviewers made it known that they disagree with the U.N. conclusions, but now there is a petition circulated by Dr. Arthur Robinson, director of the Oregon Institute for Science and Medicine, signed by more than 31,000 scientists who dispute the theory of man-made global warming. The petition states, in part:

There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth.

The 31,000 signers all hold scientific credentials; approximately 9,000 of them hold scientific Ph.D.s.

Robinson held a press conference earlier this month. Although members of the media and Congress were invited, attendance was light.

Robinson points out that over the past 150 years, scientists have found that global temperatures have been predicted with 79 percent accuracy by the sunspot index, which precedes climate changes by about 10 years. CO2, by comparison, has been only 22 percent accurate, and that number has rapidly declined in the past decade as temperatures have dipped and CO2 has continued to rise.

In fact, 70 percent of the Earth’s warming in the past hundred years occurred before 1940, while nearly all of humanity’s industrial emissions have occurred after that date. Since 1940, the climate has only risen 0.2 Celsius.

Robinson notes that the U.N. has never produced any direct evidence that mankind is causing warming, but that the IPCC report is only a summary, written by a handful of authors, of discussions among scientists invited to a U.N. conference.

Don’t you neocons think we’d all love to believe the world isn’t getting screwed by our consumptive lifestyles? I’d give my sac to be able to do whatever the hell I want with no consequences, but in the real world, the credible, objective scientists are more or less in agreement that climate change is leading to catastrophic outcomes – they differ on some of the details, and clearly we need to iron these out to form a plan of action, but to deny it is a real and immediate danger is not just stupid, it’s criminal. 1. Sea level “rising 6 m”

    2. Pacific islands “drowning”
They aren’t. The sea levels around the Maldives haven’t changed for 1250 years. Same goes for Vanuatu.

    3. Thermohaline circulation “stopping”
    In reality, it is strengthening.

    4. CO2 “driving temperature”
It is a clear and well accepted fact that temperature drives CO2 levels.

    5. Snows of Kilimanjaro “melting”
Temperature at the summit never rises above freezing. Most of the melt occured before 1936.

    6. Lake Chad “drying up”
It also dried up in 8500BC, 5500BC, 1000BC and 100BC. Where was our carbon-polluting human industry then?

    7. Hurricane Katrina “man made”

    http://scottthong.wordpress.com/ 2007/ 10/ 30/ 35-scientific-errors-or-intentional-lies-in-an-inconvenient-truth/

I’ll let commenter Infidel on one of your links handle this one, as he sums it up pretty nicely:

You failed to mention that the judge quite clearly expressed that the movie won’t be banned from schools, as Dimmock demanded, because the detected errors were minor in nature and that the movie contains four main messages that are very well and truthfully documented: That climate change is made by man, that temperatures will rise further, that the climate change will have bad consequences and that it is possible for governments and individuals to do something about it.

Funny how the wingnuts get all worked up about 35 “lies” (which are not “lies” but instead exaggerations, worst-case scenarios that the deniers claim are presented as “facts”, or opinions of some researchers that are not shared by others) yet they reject the well-documented more than 900 lies told by the Bush administration in selling their war-of-choice to the American public.

    Curious.

  108. kmichaels says:

    1) carbon dioxide is known to be a greenhouse gas — greenhouse gases trap heat within the surface-troposphere system

Greenhouse gases are known to be what keeps the earth inhabitants alive and thriving. Increased carbon dioxide increases plant growth. Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant. It is a life giver. Water vapor is also a greenhouse gas. We do not ignore these facts. We are thankful that they exist.

    2) Due to human activities such as the combustion of fossil fuels and deforestation, and the increased release of CO2 from the oceans due to the increase in the Earth’s temperature, the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide has increased by about 35% since the beginning of the age of industrialization

Due to solar activity carbon dioxide goes way up and way down over time. During the last 8 years or so the earths temperature has been slowing down in increase. Even getting lower. This does not jive well with Gore predictions. Gorites are scrambling to change the terms of the discussion to climate change instead of global warming because they want to hedge their bets when their predictions fail, which of course they will.

The goal of liberals is more government control of your lives and the current weapon of choice is the global warming fear forced down your throats ad nauseum.

Um, cows are part of the problem of man-made pollution contributing to global warming. Without human industrial agriculture, there wouldn’t be billions of cows on the planet.

  113. kmichaels says:

    5. Snows of Kilimanjaro “melting”
Temperature at the summit never rises above freezing. Most of the melt occured before 1936.

Please go here to see how bad your research is.

I went to your link. It did not refute the fact that the temperature at the summit never rises above freezing. It also does not refute the fact that the majority of the melt occurred before 1936.

Your link also left out the fact that other scientists have correctly stated that there are more than one reasons that some glaciers disappear. A key one being evaporation, which does not require warmer temperatures. Also not noted in your link was that the landscape in the Kilimanjaro area changed to allow for more evaporation.

So yes, glaciers do get larger and get smaller all the time. But the Kilimanjaro glacier was already getting smaller well before the USA was industrialized to any major degree.

Also, key point, the glacier is in an area whose temperature is well below freezing and always is. yet it continues to get smaller (due to evaporation, not temperature)

  114. kevin1 says:

Whenever someone has a different option, you Libs start throwing around names and try to put everyone down who don’t believe as you do.

  115. kmichaels says:

ralph the llama seems to think that we should fall for his idiotic headfakes. When I pointed out Gores 35 lies, misrepresentations etc ralphie responded with the typical headfake about Bush. Always count on a liberal to bring up Bush if they cant respond to the details. Apparently ralph is saying that so what if Gore lied, so did Bush. Then ralph minimizes the lies that Gore told. He calls them not lies but exaggerations. So then, if Gore says the sea level will rise 20 meters and not the few inches that are actually predicted he is not LYING but just exaggerating. Dude, that is lying no matter how much you LIE to cover up Gore’s lies. And when Gore stated that Carbon Dioxide drove temperatures up when it was just the reverse, that it was temperatures that drove Carbon Dioxide release from the ocean up then that too is a lie. ralph is the type or morons that real science has to confront every day. And real science says that global warming is a farce and a lie.

  116. 666lattes says:

Yup, we have nothing better to do. That must be why we wrote the Patriot Act and we’re not Pro-Choice… oh wait.

The goal is to save lives. If you don’t think that 1 degree in 100 years is a big deal then you need to look at the rate of warming in the past and see how it compares to it.

  117. The Moderate Squad says:

  118. kmichaels says:

Telling a woman what she can do with her childs body sounds like rational thought in a good society. Yes, murder is not good. And yes GOP do point out that murder is not good. GOP monitoring your lives? Funny, but Obama ok’d the continued work of NSA and its monitoring. Are you blaming him too, bozo? And I am pretty damn sure that they are not caring about monitoring the lives of you retarded liberals. At best you are boring. As to using pot to alleviate suffering, there are legal drugs that do a better job. And yes, Obama believes that some forms of drugs should be illegal too.

As to lies getting us into Iraq. Hillary, Kerry and pretty much every top democrat told us the same lies. Go figure.

  119. kmichaels says:

“The goal is to save lives. If you don’t think that 1 degree in 100 years is a big deal then you need to look at the rate of warming in the past and see how it compares to it.”

Prove that a warmer temperature will take more lives than it saves then you might have a point. Let alone the fact that you cant even prove that we are destined for a warmer temperature in the first place.

No the liberal goal is not to save lives but to control your lives. That is the intent of all the global warming fear.

We are a doomed species, and we don’t even want to do anything about it.

  121. kmichaels says:

Seven more lies that Gore told during his movie.

    8. Polar bears “dying”
Four bears died in a storm. Four. Measly. Bears. Meanwhile, there are 25000 polar bears today compared to 5000 in 1940.

    9. Coral reefs “bleaching”
It was caused by an unusual El Nino pattern, not global warming.

    10. 100 ppmv of CO2 “melting mile-thick ice”
Gore overstates the effect of CO2 ten times greater than even the IPCC’s highest estimate.

    11. Hurricane Caterina “manmade”
Air temperatures in the area were the coldest in 25 years, not warmest.

    12. Japanese typhoons “a new record”
Tropical cyclone frequency has fallen in the past 50 years.

    13. Hurricanes “getting stronger“
    They haven’t in 60 years.

    14. Big storm insurances losses “increasing”
Insured losses in hurricane-prione areas were lower in 2005 than 1905.

  122. hussein toasterhead says:

    1. Sea level “rising 6 m”
Even the IPCC’s maximum estimate is a mere 59cm… In the year 2100.

Wrong. .59 meters is not 59 centimeters. It’s 590 centimeters – about two feet. However, the IPCC does not attempt to predict sea level rise in their AR 4 synthesis report:

Because understanding of some important effects driving sea level rise is too limited, this report does not assess the likelihood, nor provide a best estimate or an upper bound for sea level rise. … The projections do not include uncertainties in climate-carbon cycle feedbacks nor the full effects of changes in ice sheet flow, therefore the upper values of the ranges are not to be considered upper bounds for sea level rise. They include a contribution from increased Greenland and Antarctic ice flow at the rates observed for 1993-2003, but this could increase or decrease in the future

    http://www.ipcc.ch/pdf/assessment-report/ar4/syr/ar4_syr_spm.pdf

    2. Pacific islands “drowning”
They aren’t. The sea levels around the Maldives haven’t changed for 1250 years. Same goes for Vanuatu.

Wrong. Rising sea levels and coastal erosion are causing widespread damage in the Maldives. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7945877.stm

    3. Thermohaline circulation “stopping”
    In reality, it is strengthening.

In reality, this is unclear. Some studies indicate that thermohaline circulation are weakening, others indicate no change or strengthening. There is general consensus that the consequences of a shutdown, should it happen, would be catastrophic. More research is needed here.

    4. CO2 “driving temperature”
It is a clear and well accepted fact that temperature drives CO2 levels.

And it is also a clear and well-accepted fact that CO2 also drives temperature, creating a feedback loop.

    5. Snows of Kilimanjaro “melting”
Temperature at the summit never rises above freezing. Most of the melt occured before 1936.

Gore’s movie is a bit inaccurate here. It’s not rising temperature driving the loss of Kilimanjaro’s glacial cover, but reduced precipitation.
    http://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/stories/kilimanjaro_20021216/index.html

    6. Lake Chad “drying up”
It also dried up in 8500BC, 5500BC, 1000BC and 100BC. Where was our carbon-polluting human industry then?

The fact that natural factors caused localized warming and desertification in the past does not mean that human activity is not contributing to warming and desertificaiton in the present.

    7. Hurricane Katrina “man made”
Maximum hurricane wind speed and number of hurricanes has not increased.

Research here is inconclusive and Gore has recently begun toning down his language on this point.

  123. kmichaels says:

Yet another seven more lies that Gore stated in his movie. But then, liberals could not survive without lying …

    15. Mumbai “flooding”
There’s been no increase in rainfall over 48 years.

    16. Severe tornadoes “more frequent”
Severe tornadoes have fallen in frequency for the last 50 years. Tropical storms are also at the lowest frequency in decades.

    17. The sun “heats the Arctic ocean”
The ocean emits more heat than it receives from the sun.

    18. Arctic “warming fastest”
It’s actually 1 degree cooler now than in 1940.

    19. Greenland ice sheet “unstable”
The ice sheet did not break up during the last three times when the temperature was 5 degrees hotter than today.

    20. Himalayan glacial melt waters “failing”
The snow melt which provides water has not decreased in 40 years.

    21. Peruvian glaciers “disappearing”
For the past 10,000 years the Peruvian ‘glacier’ region has been mostly ice free.

    22. Mountain glaciers worldwide “disappearing”
Human CO2 output has had no effect on the already-present glacier shortening trend.

    23. Sahara desert “drying”
In the past 25 years, the Sahara shrunk by 300,000 square kilometres due to increased rainfall.

    24. West Antarctic ice sheet “unstable”
Antarctic ice is at its thickest in nearly 28 years.

    25. Antarctic Peninsula ice shelves “breaking up”
Gore concentrates on the 2% of Antarctica that is experiencing some warming, while conciously neglecting to mention the 98% of Antarctica that is cooling.

    26. Larsen B Ice Shelf “broke up because of ‘global warming’”
The ice shelfs have been breaking up since 10,000 years ago.

    27. Mosquitoes “climbing to higher altitudes”
The graph says it all: Wrong.

    28. Many tropical diseases “spread through ‘global warming’”

West Nile virus flourishes in any climate, from desert to ice.

    30. Carbon dioxide is “pollution”
Forests are thriving due to the increasing CO2 levels.

    31. The European heat wave of 2003 “killed 35,000?
Cold snaps kill people, but the IPCC does not include the number of lives that would be saved due to less cold weather.

    32. Pied flycatchers “cannot feed their young”
A few tens of kilometres north, and there is no notable difference.

    33. Gore’s bogus pictures and film footage
Gore plays fast and loose with falsely used images.

    34. The Thames Barrier “closing more frequently”
It is closed to retain tidal water in the Thames.

    35. “No fact…in dispute by anybody.”
    Yeah, right.

Seven more lies that Gore told during his movie.

    8. Polar bears “dying”
Four bears died in a storm. Four. Measly. Bears. Meanwhile, there are 25000 polar bears today compared to 5000 in 1940.

And what was that 1940 figure based on? Even today’s scientists admit that it’s impossible to get an accurate census. However:

The IUCN Polar Bear Specialist Group reclassified the polar bear as a vulnerable species on the IUCN’s Red List of Endangered Species at their most recent meeting (Seattle, 2005). They reported that of the 19 subpopulations of polar bears, five are declining, five are stable, two are increasing, and seven have insufficient data on which to base a decision. On May 14, 2008, the U.S. Department of the Interior reclassified the polar bear as a Threatened Species under the Endangered Species Act, citing concerns about sea ice loss. Canada and Russia list the polar bear as a species of concern.

    http://www.polarbearsinternational.org/bear-facts/

    9. Coral reefs “bleaching”
It was caused by an unusual El Nino pattern, not global warming.

Not in Hawaii. One of the main causal factors in bleaching events in Hawaii in 1996 and 2002 is believed to be rising ocean temperatures, not El Nino: http://www.fws.gov/coralreef/proceedings/Day%202%20PDF/5-Athline%20Clark.pdf

    10. 100 ppmv of CO2 “melting mile-thick ice”
Gore overstates the effect of CO2 ten times greater than even the IPCC’s highest estimate.

    Wrong.

The combined radiative forcing due to increases in
carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide is +2.30
[+2.07 to +2.53] W m–2, and its rate of increase
during the industrial era is very likely to have been
unprecedented in more than 10,000 years

    http://www.ipcc.ch/pdf/assessment-report/ar4/wg1/ar4-wg1-spm.pdf

    11. Hurricane Caterina “manmade”
Air temperatures in the area were the coldest in 25 years, not warmest.

What area? The Gulf of Mexico? Or Northern Africa, where Katrina first formed?

Severe heat wave conditions also affected much of southern Europe and North Africa during July.

In Algeria, the heatwave in July pushed temperatures as high as 50 degrees C. Extremely cold temperatures affected much of the Balkan region during the first half of February. In Morocco, a cold wave in January dropped temperatures as low as –14 degrees C.

Long-term drought continued in parts of the Greater Horn of Africa, including southern Somalia, eastern Kenya, southeastern Ethiopia, northeastern Tanzania and Djibouti.

Give up your gas cars for electric cars. Except, it has been shown that the normal process of creating electricity tends to create as much or more carbon dioxide. The one thing that would help clean electricity is nuclear power plants yet the typical Gorite will not support such a venture. They cant get out of their system how evil nuclear power is. Some ideas that were drummed into their heads still remain.

toasterhead is a real winner. He points out that Gore did not lie when I pointed out his lies. He just said that research was inconclusive or IF what Gore said would happen would be really bad. There is no winning with fools like him. He wants to believe that mankind is hurting the earth and so he comes up with the most lame apologies for Gores list of lies.

Here is yet seven more lies that Gore told during his movie

Watch toasterhead play his idiotic spin game to cover up for Gores gross errors …

    March 24th, 2009 at 4:45 pm
    ______________

I’m not spinning. Just pointing to research that shows that reality is much more complex than either Gore or you are saying. Certain statements Gore made in his movie and book may have suffered from oversimplification or inadequate research at the time it was produced. This does not mean tha they are lies, however, and it does not refute the overwhelming scientific evidence for the consnsus that the planet is warming due primarily to human activity.

Since you’re making the accusation, please post proof that Al Gore lied. Not got some facts wrong, but KNOWINGLY LIED.

You can’t. Therefore, the liar is you.

toasterhead did the typical ploy of posting non-related facts to somehow prove that Gore was not lying. Okay, you’re right. I’m actually a secret communist Muslim, and you figured out my secret plan. George Soros and I are plotting to take over the world by making everyone buy carbon credits and use solar energy.

And I’d like to see you stop us once we’ve locked you in your reeducation camp. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!

  139. 666lattes says:

How many critics of Global Warming qualify as Climatologists or climate scientists?

  140. kmichaels says:

toasterhead is pretty hopeless, but then I don’t post for him. I post for honest people to see that Gore has a political agenda and is not the kind self-servant that he pretends to be. He is making money off of that ridiculous carbon credit crap. he continues to use 10 to 100 times more energy than the average citizen. His carbon footprint is excused because he is saving the world. Yet there is no evidence that he has saved one person from any suffering EVER.

Temperatures are going down and have done so for the last 8 or more years.

Global warming is being changed into “Climate Change” since evidence is proving that Global Warming is crap and their side knows it.

All evidence of better things occurring under warmer temperatures are ignored by these morons because it does not fit their agenda.

If you point out that plants thrive with more carbon dioxide they rush to point out that poison ivy will also grow faster. Hell dudes, poison ivy is a plant so yes, it will grow faster. But what the heck is your point? Oh yeah, your point is that you have to pretend that warmer is evil so you play your retarded games of gotcha.

The end result of the global warming fear is that leftist governments and peoples want to control more aspects of your lives. And the number one way is higher taxes. Look at Obama. He already has a huge list of “changes” in energy that will do nothing but raise the cost of energy to the consumer. Through higher taxes and more controls of your life.

Hmmm, looks like I touched a nerve here. Ever notice how threads on global warming never fail to bring out the trolls? CEI obvious watches closely, and quickly sends out their misinformation squads whenever this subject is broached.

    I got your number chump.

“They cant get out of their system how evil nuclear power is.”

Can we use your basement to store all of the waste? I personally think we should use NASA as a Nuclear Waste Management program to store it all in space until we can figure out something better to use it on… other than middle eastern children in the form of Depleted Uranium weapons.

  143. kmichaels says:

“How many critics of Global Warming qualify as Climatologists or climate scientists?”

How many people rely on consensus to establish fact in science? Those that do tend to be clueless about how science works.

There are literally thousands of scientists in direct weather/climate related fields that claim that global warming is not real and not established.

  144. kmichaels says:

See what I mean. 666 is using fear mongering about nuclear power in order to not use the one thing that would actually help produce clean energy and clean electricity, namely nuclear power plants. 666lattes so much wants to save you unless the solution is nuclear energy since it is on his “evil ” list.

  145. 666lattes says:

    kmichaels Says:
“I post for honest people to see that Gore has a political agenda and is not the kind self-servant that he pretends to be.”

So, that’s why he’s been studying climate change since the 60’s?

“He is making money off of that ridiculous carbon credit crap.”

    So, making money is evil?

  146. kmichaels says:

Nope, making money if fine. It is libs that believe that it is evil, unless Gore does it, then it is ok because he cares about you.

And no, 666 Gore has not been “studying climate change” since the 60’s. He has no degree in that field. He failed at most school ventures.

  147. 666lattes says:

    kmichaels Says:

“How many people rely on consensus to establish fact in science?”

When it comes to a topic such as this, anyone with a brain.

“Those that do tend to be clueless about how science works.”

Yeah, the scientists of the IPCC have no idea how science works.

“There are literally thousands of scientists in direct weather/climate related fields that claim that global warming is not real and not established.”

Yup, like meteorologists… I guess since I use my email at work, I qualify as a web master.

  148. nellre says:

    Scientific opinion on climate change

poll performed by Peter Doran and Maggie Kendall Zimmerman at Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Illinois at Chicago received replies from 3,146 of the 10,257 polled Earth scientists. Results were analyzed globally and by specialization. 96.2% of climatologists who are active in climate research believe that mean global temperatures have risen compared to pre-1800s levels, and 97.4% believe that human activity is a significant factor in changing mean global temperatures. Among all respondents, 90% agreed that temperatures have risen compared to pre-1800 levels, and 80% agreed that humans significantly influence the global temperature. Petroleum geologists and meteorologists were among the biggest doubters, with only 47 percent and 64 percent, respectively, believing in human involvement. A summary from the survey states that:

“It seems that the debate on the authenticity of global warming and the role played by human activity is largely nonexistent among those who understand the nuances and scientific basis of long-term climate processes.”[75]

  149. shoeless says:

    666lattes Says:

How many critics of Global Warming qualify as Climatologists or climate scientists?

Very few, if any. The Competitive Enterprise Institute employs geologists, TV Weathermen, chemists, ect. to run around denying global warming. Apparently, CEI has hard a hard time convincing climatologists to take their money.

  150. Purple State says:

    kevin1 Says:

Then you are doing what you can. That’s good. I’m not one to tell you if you need to do more or not, but you’re doing your part. In a perfect world, everyone would be doing everything that they can, but it’s hardly perfect.

People need to understand that everything has limits and that we should be quite thankful for what we have by making sure it stays around for a long time. I want clean water, air, and energy for the next generations, and this shouldn’t be halted just for the argument of the existence/denial of global warming.

  151. 666lattes says:

    kmichaels Says:

“It is libs that believe that it is evil, unless Gore does it, then it is ok because he cares about you.”

“And no, 666 Gore has not been “studying climate change” since the 60’s. He has no degree in that field. He failed at most school ventures.”

“evelle, who died in 1991, started the remarkable series of measurements of atmospheric CO2 during the Intergovernmental Geophysical Year in 1957. As a visiting professor at Harvard University, he taught a freshman course attended by then-student Al Gore.”
    http://www.heartland.org/policybot/results/9858/Gores_global_warming_mentor_in_his_own_words.html

Why do you think it is that you need to lie to get your point across. I already know the answer, but maybe you need to think about it for a while.

  152. shoeless says:

I think kmichaels had to leave. This talk about the Competitive Enterprise Institute makes his boss nervous.

Apparently not. If you really wanted to save money, you would spend the $20,000 on solar panels. At a return of $400 dollars a month in savings on electricity, it would take you only 4 years and 2 months to get your money back. That isn’t counting any money you might earn if you sell energy back to the grid. Sounds to me like an investment.

  157. pete says:

I appreciate Mr. Gore’s intentions but, I think he should step away from the front of the pack on global warming. What we need are people with NO political affiliation to take up the cause. He just makes too appealing a target for the morons on the Right.

Unfortunately, any contribution by an avowed “librul” like Al Gore will serve as nothing but an excuse for the Reichwhiners to reject it. If Al Gore said “the Earth is an oblate spheroid orbiting a medium sized star” Lush Rimjob and his ditto-heads would be proclaiming a flat Earth before the echo died.

  159. s3n says:

Oooh…I wonder how long before the wingnuts go apoplectic over a new Al Gore book.

Apparently not as quickly as the wingnuts who got excited about it. No sense of irony apparently.

    Let’s try rephrasing this:
“Al Gore to rally action around climate change with new book.”

    As this:
“[48 celebrities of your choosing] to rally action around [any cause you like] with new book.”

Any clearer? Perhaps your copies of The Secret, DaVinci Code and Harry Potter are in the way.

  160. s3n says:

Sounds to me like a sub-prime loan.
If you assume that a $20000 investment in solar panels makes $800 worth of electricity it only takes half as long. So why not do that? It’s just as valid an estimate as your first one.

  161. shoeless says:

I see all the trolls ran away when the Competitive Enterprise Institute was mentioned. No one is supposed to know about CEI. We should all bring it up everytime they flood a thread about global warming.
