I also must admit that I am not an exception, I see myself as the norm as far as single mothers are concerned. I have many friends who were left by husbands, did not receive a dime of child support, worked, took care of their kids (and often neighbor kids), dated, but did not bring new men into the household to live (both for the man’s sake and the children’s) and succeeded in raising responsible and emotionally healthy children. Yes we can! And yes we did!

I’m going to make a comment before reading all the posts. Bill O’Lielly is a confirmed idiot and his misogyny is ever present. I was a single mother of two girls. My exhusband left me for another woman, a sugar momma so to speak. I had worked most of our marriage, earned a bachelor’s degree and was moving up in my profession. That’s the key. I never received any government assistance. I ended up buying a house and I raised two incredible daughters even though their father moved out of state and left most of the burden on me. Plus he was “self-employed” so he easily hid his income to reduce his child support payments. Every time I calculated my income and expenditures, I left out what he might contribute from month to month. I figured out how to do it myself. And I never married or brought a man into our little household. So take that O’Lielly!
