If I had started a foundation for the parents of kids with autism—just an example—and I booked a fund-raising luncheon with a well-known speaker promoting his/her book (unrelated to autism) and then someone showed me proof that this author had claimed in the past that autism wasn’t real, it was just lazy parents looking for an excuse, blah, blah, blah—

then I think I’d put the integrity of the parents of kids with autism first and confront the book promoter. Whether or not anyone else does that, is their business. But I would certainly not be flattered if the author portrayed me, my organization, and the beneficiaries of my organization as victims because people wrote honestly about what the author said about autism. I would assume that most people who wrote to me to inform me of what he had said in the past were doing so out of concern.
