Cantor skips Obama’s press conference to attend a Britney Spears concert.

britcircus.jpg In recent weeks, congressional Republicans have been critical of President Obama for doing anything that isn’t directly focusing on the economic crisis — such as going on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno or filling out his NCAA bracket. House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) even called Obama’s decision to overturn the ban on embryonic stem cell research a “distraction.” However, Wonkette reports that instead of watching Obama’s prime-time press conference last night, Cantor decided to pursue his own distraction — the Britney Spears concert. A statement from Cantor’s office:

After attending the NRCC dinner, Eric, like President Obama has been known to do, enjoyed a night at the Verizon center. It was a bipartisan night, as Eric was joined by Senator Landrieu and other Democrats.

Cantor’s office quickly backtracked, saying that it could not “verify with 100 percent certainty” that Landrieu was there. ThinkProgress spoke with a staffer in Landrieu’s office, who said that the senator was indeed not at the concert.

Update Landrieu's office told Huffington Post's Ryan Grim that "numerous witnesses can place the Senator at Matchbox during that time."

Good grief. Cantor is an idiot.

Um, sorry for stating the obvious….

  2. hanshiro says:

Eric Cantor is a Britney Spears fan???

Words fail me….but laughter’s another thing altogether..

    Bahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

  3. P.D. says:

The fact he would go to a Spears concert says it all. But I guess he can afford the tickets to see a pretty blonde with marginal talent.

  4. Cats r Flyfishn says:

No wonder Cantor is so stupid. He must be one of those people that follow the “Britney Spear’s news” and “Runaway Brides” instead of listening to Americans that are suffering because they either lost their job or are stressed thinking that they will lose their job and not to forget the Americans living in Bushville tent cities.

Let’s see how he votes when it comes to health care. It is amazing that Congress would have the nerve to not do anything to help Americans with health care while they get free health care paid for by the very Americans that they thumb their noses at.

  5. youtube says:

When they do,thats fine, when the obama does, it is not good.
    isn’t it Cantor?

  6. lurkmode says:

    Ooops, he did it again!

  7. MapleStreet says:

Well, as long as it was for something more important.

I echo the above – what kind of person is a Brittney Spears fan ?

  8. P.D. says:

I figured he would be a Toby Keith fan.

  9. Danny Noonan says:

Apparently Britney Spears wasn’t the biggest whore at Verizon Center.

  10. spencers mom says:

Oooo! I bet he twittered there, too!

Cantor is now lying about who went to the concert? It was other Democrats who blew off the President for Britney? That is just too funny!

How does Mr. GOOP reconcile his “family values” with the Spears clan? I guess the same way they justify the Palin clan.

    PEACE

  11. The Dogfather says:

I understand that Cantor sat next to Larry Craig at the concert — they were tapping their toes in unison in adjacent stalls…

  12. blistex11 says:

Eric Cantor, the closet whoremonger, is losing ground fast with the american people. He’s being outed left and right and may hold a new record for being fizzling out faster than any of the other GOP new stars. Eric Cantor has become a household punch line.

  13. blistex11 says:

dogfather: are we chanelling each other? Precisely my thoughts regarding Cantor’s little “predelections”.

  14. blistex11 says:

Eric Cantor is a hypocritical fraud. There is no debate about this now. He’s also a closet perv.

  15. P.D. says:

Why should we be suprised? When Katrina hit, Bush was celebrating McCain’s birthday on the ranch, Condi was watching Spamalot and shopping for shoes in New York, and Chaney was flyfishing (or selling his soul to Satan). Cantor does what Repugs do best. They don’t give a Sh*t.

Believe it or not, Toby Keith is a Democrat, and he despises George W. Bush.

  17. tombaker says:

It better have been because he was taking his daughter.

  18. paleolib says:

I don’t really expect the guy to watch the press conference but did he really want to admit this? Why not just admit that you spend your evenings surfing the internet for porn Eric?

  19. pete says:

Of course, the burning question is; will Cantor condemn the words he didn’t bother listening too?

  20. P.D. says:

shoeless@17. Are you kidding me? Didn’t he diss the Dixie Chicks? I assumed he was a Repug. I’m sorry. Me bad.

  21. P.D. says:

Dr@21, Good. But will anyone follow up on it? Probably not. Sigh!

  22. pastcaring says:

One bubble head admiring another or is Cantor just pervin’ on some younger stuff?

  23. liberalinaredstate says:

What! Is he twelve? This is what he considers a night out….a Britney Spears concert!!!??? Seems a bit slimey

  24. spearNmagicHelmet says:

are you telling me that he went willingly to a BS concert and it didn’t involve bringing the kids?

    how absolutely mortifiying.

  25. SP Biloxi says:

“Cantor skips Obama’s press conference to attend a Britney Spears concert.”

lol And Beavis Cantor has just shown how much he is concerned about his own state by not watching the President’s press conference last night.

I just can’t believe that Cantor is a Britney Spears’ fan. lol

  26. liberalinaredstate says:

This is an “entertainer” who was screaming “My P***Y is hanging out” at her show in Orlando last week!

  27. Game of Life says:

    OMG britney? HAHAHAHA

I don’t mind that the 3rd top repug was acting like a pubescent boy and went to see his heroine.

repugs have been out to lunch for decades.

I don’t know. He might have. On Steven Colbert, Keith said everyone got the wrong idea about him from that kicking butt song he wrote after 9/11. He was just freaked out like everyone else.

  29. Game of Life says:

cantor what do you think of bitney and madonna’s kiss?

    HEHEHEHEHEHEE

    Lesbian Gay Yuck Remember?

  30. ljm says:

How about his saying that it was bipartisan! “They did it TOO!” NOT!!! Oh yah the possible “damage” was already done. GOoP play book once again.

I can understand why. President Obama has a monumental task to save the country from the disaster caused by the Republicans.

On the other hand, the Republicans should have plenty of spare time on their hands. They’ve already done their job by causing the calamity, and how much time does it take to come up with a policy of “no”?

Interesting. I saw him on Colbert where he was completely unapologetic for being a “patriot” and he still feels the same way now AND he would have done what he did to the Dixie Chicks again…right now (this was about six months ago).

Don’t buy his schtick. He’s a lying PO gooper S#it!

    FUTK!

  33. WAYNEBRO says:

    So Cantor likes Brittany?

    Cool.

I assume he will want to follow Brittany’s advice then?

“Honestly, I think we should just trust our president in every decision he makes and should just support that, you know, and be faithful in what happens.”

    Brittany Spears
    September 3, 2003

  34. Ms_Joanne says:

The thought that Cantor is a Spears fan TOTALLY CREEPS ME OUT!

    Ick.

  35. shoeless says:

“I think we should just trust our president in every decision he makes.”

I wonder if she still feels that way?

repugs you are fading like Norma Desmond.

Seems they all have conveniently forgot that one, and the myriad of similar calls for supporting the sitting President that we were all endlessly assailed with over the last 8 years.

Guess it only applies when a republican’s in office.

  39. Jackie says:

As we read so many attacking President Obama who is working all the time to get the US out of this Recession and Law Makers fighting him tooth and nail. Eric Cantor isn’t interested in working for the people he’s busy at Britney Spears Concert. Now as his State of Viginia has a high unemployment rate and thousands of citizens losing their homes and life saving what does Cantor do ” Go to Britney Spears Concet”. What can I say but WOW.

  40. katy says:

a staffer in Landrieu’s office, who said that the senator was indeed not at the concert.

    but, those “other Democrats” were _ _ _ ???

  41. katy says:

weird, but my first thought when seeing that picture of britney was ‘michael jackson’… she looks like everything he wanted to be…

    poor michael… such a huge talent, once…

  42. J. Fred Smug says:

The “patriot” and “GOP rising star” himself.

    What a piece of work.

and only if his daughter is over 18…
no way a younger more impressionable girl should be exposed to that soft porn…

    but, that’s just me.

  44. wiley says:

I can’t get over that outfit and can only wonder what she plans to do with that finger.

  45. MysteriousTraveller says:

    Could have been worse.

Could have been a Madonna concert.

  46. Badger says:

The Cantor children (Evan, Jenna, Michael) were born in approximately 1989, 1991, 1993

So he does have an 18 yr. old daughter. and I agree with TOMBaker, this only makes sense if he was her chaperone.

Cantor is the Republican Whip…so all he really needs to know how to do is count Votes…

that should be easy, because the GOP doesn’t have that many.

  47. Keith H. says:

cantor must really be in touch with his middle school feminine side.

  48. KayInMaine says:

I wonder if Cantor wore his favorite skirt and head band for the night?

  49. aquarius2 says:

I have always thought that Eric Cantor, when he speaks, looks like he needs a good laxative. Perhaps I was wrong, it isn’t a laxative at all, it’s—–.

hahahahahhaha Doesn’t surprise me at all that Cantor is a Britney fan, it fits his IQ.

  50. celtic cynic says:

Burning Question: Was Britney wearing any underear?
More Important: Was Cantor wearing any underwear?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

  51. okayhawaii says:

wow, on the previous topic of bills stalking of amanda terkel, there were 590 comments. i’m blown away by the amount of time so many people are giving to these little things.

to be honest, i’m here because of watching amanda on keith’s show just a minute ago, and, while i can’t say its love at first, site, its certainly a crush! and then i thought, hmmm…bill likes cute girls. he loves that rabid idiot lady from honolulu michelle malkin, and now amanda is just his type; it makes me wonder if the real purpose of the stalking is for bill to acquire person control of ’sercret’ footage of a lady walking around. maybe that is his fetish. maybe he has a stock pile of footage of attractive women, all footage taken by his staff. but then, he does send his stalkers out after bill moyers too, so, i guess he at least has some broader interests.

but otherwise, during the stalking video itself, i was struck by how calm and well spoken amanda was. later, on keith’s show, i thought she looked a little tense. maybe she was in near self defence mode with the stalkers, but on a big tv show stage fright got her a bit.

anyway, i hadn’t heard of thinkprogress before, but now thanks to bill, you have a new subscriber!

  52. Buckie Boy says:

Eric Cantor is a Britney Spears fan?

Oh well, maybe he’s a stalker….he sure looks the type.

  53. buzzbomb says:

Britney Spears? Haa haahahahahhahahha. What a f#cking tool!!!

  54. prthatrocks says:

The only people stupider than Cantor are those that voted for him. We get the government we deserve.

  55. dbearton says:

    Cantor, another RepubliCon clown!

  56. OutstandingInMyField says:

Dear Eric received 10K for his PAC from UBS, enabler of tax cheats. His wife works for a private investment bank that received bailout funds. He probably needs some mindless entertainment to take his mind off his hypocrisy, assuming he still has enough of a conscience to feel shame.

  57. Geezer says:

I guess that Cantor just needed to stimulate his package.

  58. curious says:

At least we know his speed. This is as close as he will ever get to someone that young. Until this concert he has to find kiddie magazines and the porn sites. Boy I bet his night was busy later on. At home. In the dark. Down memory lane. You know, their IQ’s might be similar too. No, hers is higher.

  59. southrnbelle says:

    A Brittney Spears concert???

    Are you kidding me????

Are these men adults, or, monkey spanking, 13-year-old boys?!!?!?!?!?

    UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  60. flavorino says:

Wow, this guy is pathetic……Bobby Jindal territory pathetic.

More of those famous GOP family values.
Was he taking his daughter or even worse did he go for his own pleasure?

  61. Ape-Man says:

Cantor went to see “Britney”? Haha. I take back what i said about him not being a geek, and just dressing like one.

  62. flight says:

President Obama, poised, articulate, in control of his situation. Strikes me as a leader on the move, and I’m willing to follow.

The clowns we call Republicans are leaderless, clueless and lost in the woods. Ain’t going to follow this Cantor clown or the Republicans anywhere.

The Republicans couldn’t lead for the last 8 years, there are too dumb to follow, I guess they better get out of the way!

  63. Max-1 says:

    .

Was she scheduled to kiss Madonna…
… You know how those (R)ushpublickin’s are about sex.

Of course it’s not gay sex when hot women go at it, YES?

    .

  64. leneeg says:

Well, I’m sure he had good reasons to not tune in to the press conference. Not sure if it was wise for a politician to acknowledge the fact he was too busy to do so. Any self respecting citizen from his home state should be asking why he didn’t and if not, oh well.

  65. lvdragonlady says:

There you are America. The party that says NO to helping you and your country.
They only care about themselves and their political aspirations they do NOT care about America.

    “““““““““““““““““““““““““““`
Nope he didn’t take his daughter. This is just too creepy, a 45 year old male going to a Britany Spears concert.

  67. kwsventures says:

Canter knew that Obama was going to say the same old stuff — and he did. So, Canter didn’t miss anything. Obama has been on TV so much the last 2 months saying the same old stuff. Who wants to listen to that stuff over and over. Uh, not me.

  68. Pelotonpro 048 says:

Hit me Bill-O one more time!

  69. Pelotonpro 048 says:

OMG!!! Now they’ll probably lip-sync Regan speeches!
