Terkel to appear on Olbermann tonight to talk about the continuing O’Reilly smears.

Since Bill O’Reilly sent his henchmen to track down, follow, and ambush ThinkProgress’s Amanda Terkel, he has continued to go after the blog, calling us “insects” and claiming that Amanda deliberately attacked a rape victim. Tonight, Amanda will be on MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann to respond to the vicious smears and talk about what progressives are doing to respond.

Meanwhile, the “MSNBC Politics Network” — which provides blog ads — is doing some thinning of its own. From an email our site (stinque.com) received today:

“I had to put your account on hold. MSNBC is reviewing all sites in their networks and sites containing profanity are an item of concern. If you can remove the profanity please let me know.”

Any website that follows in the tradition of George Carlin and Lewis Black is subject to this threat. It may be completely coincidental to the TP campaign against O’Reilly, or it may be MSNBC covering its arse.

  4. raynman says:

Again, we play into the mainstream media’s hands. As long as it’s on Olbermann’s show, the media can keep on with the meme that this is a partisan bickering match and totally ignore the facts.

As long as Amanda is a dignified, calm and rational being, O’Reilly will get more and more shrill and nutty.

No offense to Mr. Olbermann but, I would think that NBC would have something to say and might want to hear Amanda tell her side of the story on NBC Nightly News. After all, Bill0 slandered them as well.

Amanda’s showing you just what kind of man you are, Bill-O.

Wow maybe NBC wants to start paying her as their new henchwomen :) Go Amanda give em hell!

  14. janac says:

Billo is a rapist! A man who thinks rape is the victims fault by the clothes she wears, being drunk or out late, is in my opinion, a man who thinks like the rapist himself!
I was a victim of rape at the age of 13. Its just appalling how Bill sends out a msg that it was somehow my fault because i was wearing a mini skirt and walking home alone at night from a school function! The Billo’s in this world will eventually get locked up where they can experience being raped by others just like them.
I’m so glad Olberman has exposed Billo for what he really is. A rapist and a stalker!

I think it would be hard to get a conviction, Dr. Matt. I wouldn’t presume to give legal advice but I’ve watched Mike Wallace barge into a lot of offices and make people VERY uncomfortable. I also wouldn’t presume to compare what the goons do to Mike Wallace’s better work but there is a precedent of press access.

Slander, however, is a different story. In my humble opinion, a lot of people with deep enough pockets to pursue charges could present a VERY strong case and prove tangible damages. Amanda posting her side of the encounter before they aired Bill0’s initial tantrum would be extremely compelling evidence that Bill0 himself acted with malice.

It would be grand to watch Bill0 walk the proverbial plank. I just hope he doesn’t continue dragging good people into the slime where he lives.

Why focus on stuff that actually matters like millions of homeless people, wars and terrorists when you can just waste your time smearing a talking head on an “irrelevant” news channel?

  29. JohnM says:

I think Bill O is a complete moron. To track this blogger down the way he did is pathetic. With that being said, I think when looking at his original comments about the rape victim I agree with him. I don’t believe that he was saying it was the victims fault for being raped. I think what he was saying that it was not smart of her to put herself in a situation where a insane jerk could do something like this. Of course a woman should be able to wear whatever they want and go wherever they want without being raped, but we live in a sick world where people are going to commit violent crimes. A person that puts themself in a position where rape is likely to occur as it was in this case is not using common sense. From the perspective of a father with a young daughter I would not want her walking alone at 2am in NY dressed in what this girl was wearing because her chances of being raped increase drastically. I think that is all Bill O was saying. Again, I just want to point out that I think the man is a loser and he should not have had his hench men follow the blogger to another state to confront her.

I guess you missed the part about where her car broke down and that was why she was on foot.

Also, if that was really his intention, then why didn’t he mention the perp at all. Why didn’t he say something at the end about how it is NEVER ok to rape or murder anyone? What Billo did that day was give tacit permission to every sicko out there who sees a woman walking on a street late at night. That sicko can say to themselves “well, they’re just asking for it”.

You, I believe, are just another “concern” troll sent here by Billo to try to defend his honor. You have failed at your task.

That is certainly not what I was saying. I truly feel for all rape victims and I am sorry that you were raped. Nobody deserves that and don’t put any fault on you. The foundation in the background of all this is raising money for rape victims who are going to court, trying to get convictions. One of the problems with getting convictions is the perception that the woman is responsible for her victimization if she isn’t at home and/or isn’t dressed in a manner that magically wards off rapists.

Maybe the girl thought getting a ride would be safer than walking? Maybe the predator killer looked trustworthy? Maybe she even knew the guy from somewhere?

  58. slappy magoo says:

I’m gonna cut JohnM a wee bit of Christian slack, not because I think he’s right (I don’t, not by any stretch), but because I recognize his sort of comment as woefully ignorant as opposed to WILLFULLY ignorant. After all, even progressives often tout the virtues of personal responsibility, and some people are just crazy just like some women are just c***teases blah blah blah. It’s all irrelevant. A woman can be doing more that just dress provocatively. Hell, a woman can strip, give you a lap dance & start having sex with you, then change her mind mid-coitus. You stop. It’s over. To not stop is rape. Once you accept that as a very simple truth, it’s pretty plain to see it doesn’t matter what a woman or girl wears or says or does. There’s no justification for rape, ever. There’s no lesson to be learned from your crank.

I oft hear that the way some women dress is like jumping in a lions’ den with raw meat around your neck. Sh*tty comedian routines aside, men are better than animals. It’s just not an excuse.

We all have heard the old solemn along the lines of “they came for the jews & I said nothing for I was not a jew.” Well, where’s the line drawn when it comes to what a woman wears meaning she’s “asking for it?” Do we come for the miniskirted and the bikini’d first? Move on to those wearing stockings & garters? Clothes that are too tight? Should buxom women be forced to tape down? Should butt floss be outlawed? O’Reilly’s one of those dillholes who will mock Middle Eastern men for forcing their women into burkhas, or for stoning a woman who showed an inch more skin than local elders consider decent, then chastise a rape victim for her choice of clothes. Who decides the happy medium? I have an idea, unless a woman says “touch me” then don’t touch her. It’s not a mutual concept of personal responsibility. A man with his wallet on top of his head doesn’t give you the right to rob him, no matter how dumb his actions seem TO YOU. A house filled with oily rags doesn’t give you the right to set it on fire, no matter how much of a lesson YOU THINK it teaches the owner. So there’s no appropriate stretch of logic that allows someone to say “rape is always wrong, but let’s look at the victim.” It may allow others to understand a cautionary tale, but that doesn’t excude the act, ever.

  59. had enough says:

Am I to assume according to John M, billo and other idiots that if a woman looks appealing she deserves the violent act of rape?

What is wrong with these people?

  60. dbearton says:

Faux news can commit stalking, but oh, we can not have any vulgarity.

  61. WAYNEBRO says:

You were made for Television Amanda. You sound like a pro vocally, very articulate and you look good on camera.

Only thing I’d say is be sure to listen for the interviewers leads. Keith was trying to lead you on the issue of Oreilly’s projectionism, i.e. accusing you of the tactics that not you, but they are actually guilty of.

Its the new right wing tactic and we see it across the board. Whatever the right is guilty of, they accuse the left of, so as to dilute any real investigation into their tactics and deeds.

If they accuse the left of it, then when the left is charging them with the same things it will make it sound more like two sides bickering, which is what they want. The last thing they want is a debate on the issues so they try to drown it all in a wash of ambiguity.

I think Keith was just trying to point out the hubris of Oreilly accusing you and TP of “gotcha” tactics when that’s what he just got through doing to you.

Anyway great interview. I see a burgeoning career in television on the horizon. :D

  62. Woody McBreairty says:

Why doesn’t someone “stalk” O”Reilly back, and demand he respond to the sexual harassment lawsuit that he purportedly paid 10 million dollars to “make go away” and said he would never discuss again. How convenient for him. Too bad he wouldn’t give all the people he harasses a chance for the same declaration. (Oct. 13, 2004: A female Fox news producer filed a lawsuit against Fox News tv broadcaster Bill O’Reilly, claiming that he subjected her to repeated instances of sexual harassment, and spoke often and explicitly to her about phone sex, vibrators, sexual threesomes, masturbation, the loss of his virginity, and various sexual fantasies.) The entire transcipt of the suit is available on the internet. She also talks about his scary mood swings and his description to her of his own sexual organ. Unfortunately he seems to have succeeded in hiding his own dirt while following and harrassing innocent people trying to “expose” them for things that he actually makes up or embellishes upon or presents his own twisted and distorted version of the “truth”.I hate to see him get away with this and I hope that more people will continue to confront him about his own mistreatment of other people and his own hypocricy and give him a little dose of his own medicine.

  63. Das_Goat says:

Amanda did a great job tonight! At this point any rational human being just needs to almost laugh at the giant talking head! It’s outright insane how far he’s taking this! Oddly, a simple apology for the initial comment might have prevented all of this.

To janac: I think most of us agree that no human should ever be raped, and the entire fault rests with the rapist. That being said, the idea that anyone would EVER put any fault whatsoever on a child of 13 in this kind of matter is crazy to me. Societies exist to protect children and the future, if you were not so protected the fault lies entirely outside yourself. I wish you every good thing.

  66. Honest Man says:

“A recent commentary on NPR by media guy David Folkenflik cited the tremendous ratings the FOX News Channel is currently getting. That, in contrast to the collapse at MSNBC and CNN.
As you know, the liberal media ran wild during the election cycle supporting Barack Obama. Because of that, some Obama voters tuned in to the left media. Apparently, they have left as fast as they arrived.
Sixty-two million Americans voted against Mr. Obama, and many of those people are now worried because of the bold moves the president has made. So folks who are uneasy with the direction of the country are not going to watch or read product from news organizations that are in the tank for Barack Obama. That’s why some committed-left newspapers are failing and the liberal cable networks are getting hammered.
That is galling radical-left zealots, and they are on the attack. FNC’s Glenn Beck is a good example of what’s going on. The usual smear merchants on NBC are now attacking Glenn personally, and the Internet nutcases are doing the same. The more successful Mr. Beck becomes, the more these people try to hurt him.
As we told you on Monday, NBC President Jeff Zucker allows these hateful attacks on a daily basis, forever branding his network as a place of cheap and dishonest discourse.
Along with Zucker, former Bill Clinton Chief of Staff John Podesta is also driving the hate industry. Podesta runs the Center for American Progress, a far-left hate group partially funded by our pal George Soros.
In addition to working for President Clinton, Podesta was the co-chairman of Barack Obama’s transition team, and here is where the story takes a very serious turn. Podesta’s Web site is devoted to hurting any prominent person who disagrees with liberal politics, and that includes critics of President Obama. And Podesta’s mainstream media outlet is, of course, NBC News.
*After we reported on Podesta’s deputy, Amanda Terkel, harming a rape victim and her family because of Ms. Terkel’s hatred for me, she showed up almost immediately on NBC News. NBC says it has no connection to Ms. Terkel and says I am disregarding the truth. Sure.*
Finally, why should you care about any of this? Well, because it’s your country. A well-coordinated, well-financed cabal attacking dissent is a pretty big story, especially because it involves Podesta, who has access to the president and NBC, which along with it’s parent company General Electric is misusing its power.
Bottom line: The far left wants to silence and damage opposition, whether it’s Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity or anyone else in the public eye. And those people will do just about anything to achieve their goals.
    And that’s “The Memo.”"

Amanda, excellent job! Bill-O needs to learn that in today’s world of DVR’s and internet, he can’t just pretend the past didn’t happen. As for John who was sort of siding with O’Dorky’s comments concerning the rape victim, I ask about Shawn Hornbeck. Bill claimed that Shawn was enjoying himself while being held prisoner because he didn’t have to go to school — never mind the fact that he was a teenage sex slave.

For the record, rape victims are NEVER at fault … period!

Jim, your comment was #87 from where I’m sitting.

Yeah, definitely ‘let’s go Mets!’ Even if I can’t afford to get down to our sparkly new ShitiField (or Bailout Park, whatever) this season, I’m looking forward to Opening Day.

  84. MCH says:

Alas, Jane & Jim, I will be unable to join you in your rooting for the Mets. Living in St Louis, the old Mets-Cardinals rivalry still ramins fresh in my memory.

I look forward to some good-nature bantering as the season gets underway though.

    republicans hate facts Says:

Which is EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE SAYING! You’re saying THE VICTIM is THE ONE RESPONSIBLE! What a TYPICAL REPUBLICAN PIECE OF SH!T!

That certainly is not what I am saying. Let me say it again, I do not think the victim is responsible, but I do think that she did put herself in a situation based on her poor judgement.

If I were walking down that same street at 2am waving a bunch of $100 bills and some thug came up behind me, smashed me in the head and stole all my money would the fact that I was robbed be my fault? No, but I would have excercised poor judgement for putting myself in that situation. Obviously being mugged is not as tramatic as being raped, but the same principle applies. By putting myself in a situation that increases my chances of being mugged is poor judgment. That is all I am saying.

Does anybody here think that a woman alone at night dressed in a halter top walking down the west side highway intoxicated is less likely to be raped than a woman that calls a cab or stays with a group of friends and goes home? Anybody that says yes simply does not want to face reality. While it certainly is not the fault of the woman that raped her and the man that did it should be sent to jail for a long time if she would have used sound judgement she would not have been in that situation.

Looks like a good bunch of people here and a good supply of trolls to have fun with.

    Excuse me for a moment…

JohnM, you keep mentioning ‘poor judgment’ – don’t forget, one of the points that BillO was emphasizing was that she was drunk, and while, yes, that was poor judgment if you’re looking at this from the perspective of a (supposedly) wiser age, NOTHING excuses the MURDERER/RAPIST’S actual CRIME. 113. Jane E. Schneider says:

Okay, I’ll post this one more time:

O’REILLY: So anyway, these two girls come in from the suburbs and they get bombed, and their car is towed because they’re moronic girls and, you know, they don’t have a car. So they’re standing there in the middle of the night with no car. And then they separate because they’re drunk. They separate, which you never do. All right.

Now Moore, Jennifer Moore, 18, on her way to college. She was 5-foot-2, 105 pounds, wearing a miniskirt and a halter top with a bare midriff. Now, again, there you go. So every predator in the world is gonna pick that up at two in the morning. She’s walking by herself on the West Side Highway, and she gets picked up by a thug. All right. Now she’s out of her mind, drunk...

No, not necessarily. The penalty for being young and making a poor decision should not be rape and murder.

This is a societal problem, we spend more time picking apart the judgment of the victim — and little or no time concentrating on what a sick f uck the perpetrator is. We just assume people know that we think the perpetrator is sick, and fail to voice it as loud or LOUDER than our criticism of the victim.

I hope you can see the difference, JohnM.

He is not implying that it was her fault he is flat out saying that she was an idiot for going out alone down the street drunk like that. You may find it sexist, but the truth hurts. There are jerks that like to rape women and women should try and avoid situations where it is more likely to happen if they can. In this case she could have.

I completely agree that we should be focusing more on what a sick ass the perp was. I think rapists are the lowest of the low. I also agree that her poor judgement should not have a penalty of murder.

Ok, let’s play that out, but with a new character.

Your 18 year old daughter is in the city with a friend. They park in the wrong spot, purely by accident, and the car is towed away. Her cell is dead, or there is simply no service, and they can’t find a pay phone. Your daughter and her friend decide to each walk a block or two to try to find a phone. Sadly, she is grabbed by a man who viciously rapes and murders her.

You obviously didn’t listen to the program for if you had then you would know that the subject was on what alcohol does to people.

BillO was criticizing the deceased, Jennifer Moore, and saying the rape and murder were also due to the type of clothes she wore, the fact that she was walking (she had her car towed away), and being in a not-so-good neighborhood.

It is perfectly possible the rape and murder would have happened if she never had a drop of alcohol in her life. It was not solely about alcohol. Gee, you people lie a lot!

Terkel deserves to be confronted. She can’t even answer a simple question and completely smeared O’Rielly by taking him completedly out of context.

    Here it is…

She seems completely inable to answer a simple question and very insincere.

  160. Keith says:

    tim43,
You do realize that the video of Amanda is HIGHLY EDITED by BillO to make her look bad, don’t you? It was three weeks later, she was on vacation in Winchester, and a couple of goons come up to her and shoved a mic and camera in her face. She did not want to quote him or herself unless she could do it accurately. She was unprepared for the ambush. Why the ambush? She has an office, a phone, email and everything.

BillO said she led a charge of protest against the Foundation. She DID NOT. If she did you could show me the proof, but you cannot because she DID NOT.

BillO “was unsympathetic to the plight of a crime victim (his words)”. Her name is Jennifer Moore. She was raped and murdered. Read #189 to see why the “Mel Gibson context defense” does not apply.

  161. EugeneDebs says:

Timmeh. Nice of you to drop by to show us again that you are insufferably stupid and gullible. Do you think you are stupider or more gullibible.

Terkel should quit crying and suck it up. She’s playing with the big boys now.
