UPS responds to our campaign: We are investigating whether to continue advertising on O’Reilly’s show.

billo.jpgResponding to our Stop The O’Reilly Harassment Machine campaign, UPS spokeswoman Susan Rosenberg issued this statement to ThinkProgress:

UPS values and takes seriously the comments from personal emailers and those posted on your site regarding advertising that appeared on Bill O’Reilly’s FOX News show. We are sensitive to the type of television programming where our messages and presence are associated and continually review choices to affect future decisions. Further investigation is underway related to this placement.

ThinkProgress responded positively to Rosenberg’s email and said we look forward to hearing the results of their “investigation.”

Digg It!

“What Can Brown Do For You?”

Stand up to Bill O’Reilly, that’s what.

    Glad they’re investigating.

  2. pastcaring says:

Let’s reserve judgment until the results are in on their investigation.

But, a better response when compared to the ones previously given.

  3. EndTheGOP says:

With the right decision, I’ll switch all my Fedex Ground shipments to UPS.

  4. curious says:

BS. They will continue to advertise. They all will. As long as O’rally has an audience of any size, the kind of audience means nothing. This is corporate America. No real moral agenda. Just money.

  5. MrWombat says:

Keep up the great work Gals and guys! Time to stop the lies once and for all.

  6. P.D. says:

Wow! A big fat maybe! Well it’s better than nothin! And let’s not forget. We got nowhere with Ford. Here’s to hoping.

    Can I make a suggestion?

Please edit the subject and body and use your own words. I think they won’t take us seriously if we send them form letters that all say the same thing.

    Just a suggestion.

  10. Rich H says:

UPS is just like any other corporation. Twenty some odd years ago a driver for UPS made over 40k, now I’m pretty sure they’re all just slightly above minimum wage.

Either that or they do what FedEx does, pay drivers as sub contractors (so no benefits) and get paid according to the number of packages they deliver.

Neither one is a good alternative. I wonder if it’s there pay scale that made DHL cease US domestic deliveries?

Nobody is gonna stop advertising with bill o the clown. Money will always trump everything else. I agree with the stance here, but seriously none of these companies are going to drop his sorry ass.

  16. pastcaring says:

To some posters who think we labor under the misconception that this particular email campaign will permanently prevent these advertisers from advertising on O’Reilly, your presumption, assumption or whatever it is, shows your naivete, not ours.

    Hey Klaaut!

UPS Appoints Stuart E. Eizenstat To Board Of Directors
Mr. Eizenstat was chief domestic policy advisor for President Jimmy Carter. Under President Clinton, he served as U.S. Ambassador to the European Union, undersecretary of commerce, undersecretary of state, and deputy treasury secretary

UPS is union, Teamsters, I believe. So they make more than minimum wage. I don’t have the particulars at hand, but I have a friend that worked for UPS and they make a pretty decent living.

We need to go after Glenn or Glenda Beck’s advertisers now. Don’t let the smears and distortions continue. Chase the FOX back in to it’s Foxhole.

  21. The Moderate Squad says:

The problem is that trolls also purchase products and services, so advertisers will continue to spend money where they believe it will make them money. However, the UPS response is probably not the abject sucking up that BO prefers, so maybe he’ll let loose with another on-air tirade and alienate the advertiser himself

  22. MrWombat says:

#22 OBUMMERSUCKS Says: Hey Archie B the secret service come to visit you yet?

  23. Xisithrus Insectoid says:

    Hey, OS:

Madoff also hedged his bets and kicked in a few bucks to select Republicans, such as:

    – Former Texas Rep. Jack Fields
    Arizona Sen. John McCain
    – Former N.Y. Rep. Vito Fossella
    – Former Louisiana Rep. “Billy” Tauzin
    – Former N.Y. Rep. Daniel Frisa
    – Former N.Y. Sen. Alfonse D’Amato

As for President-elect Barack Obama, records show Madoff, his family and associates only contributed a few thousand dollars in total to his campaign.

  24. Realness says:

    Klatuu,

why are you here? The democratic process involves economic embargo, and that has worked here and internationally (apartheid/boycotting anyone?). You’ve done nothing but try to mock everyone here, and now you’re implying people aren’t paying attention to any other issue? Not only are you sad, but you’re simple. Do you have any idea how pathetic a person like you looks to everyone? You’re writing mocking comments on blog threads.

Just for second, REALLY feel how pathetic you are. Then go back to your day and try to be better.

  25. wiley says:

I’ve had enough of these trolls. If they go to parties badmouthing the guests and cry “free speech” when they get thrown out then boo-effing-hoo.

  26. Xisithrus Insectoid says:

And Madoff contributed only about 400,000 not millions

  27. The Moderate Squad says:

Wow, Obummer, you haven’t yet caught on that no reasonable person is going to accept Fox as a credible source, nor have you caught on that W. is already considered one of the worst with the potential to sink even further once the long-term effects of his avarice and stupidity become more clear. Your avarice and stupidity, are already abundantly clear…

  28. Realness says:

    ectoendomezo-

whoa. you should check your emails before your internet time in the institution is up.

  29. 5th Estate says:

Faiz…may I suggest that with every post on this subject you clearly include the fact that the purpose of the campaign is to specifically “shut down O’Reilly’s ambush-’journalism’ unit“.

Making this clear each time will help mitigate (though it won’t prevent) blanket claims of censorship, victimization and “liberal fascism” that will no doubt be the response from O’Reilly and his cohorts–I expect them to claim that the “far left loons” and “insects” of Think Progress (and NBC and George Soros!) want to completely ’silence’ the ‘fair and balanced’ Factor.

  30. Realness says:

    Dr. Hussein Matt,

I think I’m beginning to agree. I mean I’m glad for the status updates on the campaign, but placing them all somewhere would be helpful. It’s attracting a lot of gnats, and I want a little more diversity in the blog topics.

  31. Realness says:

ah, there you are Klatuu! I should let you speak for yourself more often! Most enjoyable.

  32. Xisithrus Insectoid says:

Dr Hussein Matt Said: lol. Nice moniker.

I was also thinking of making it Xisithrus, Bug Eyed. 8^P

  33. hellinabucket says:

I’d hold off on calling President Obama will be the worst President ever. Now if he invades a couple countries, at least one under false pretenses, uses the constitution as toilet paper, continually pushes thru supplemental spending on the new invasions, tramples on the rights of the citizens of this country and can’t complete simple sentences then yes, you can start to have the discussion.

But until then, we’ll always have George.

  34. Xisithrus Insectoid says:

Its hilarious to see someone use the nym Klatuu, a humanoid alien, and berate someone for being a hivemind.

  35. Realness says:

    oh Klatuuuuuuuuu,

anymore words of wisdom for me? You were so articulate just a second ago. Maybe you’re in another intense writing brainstorm for how you can mock people on here again? Pressure’s on! The next one better be good! I’m your new number one fan!

  37. Rich H says:

    Hi cozmicdaisey,

I know they used to, I’m not sure if they still do. At any rate, someone was thinking of switching to FedEx. As far as labor goes, FedEx isn’t really a good choice.

“UPS is union, Teamsters, I believe. So they make more than minimum wage. I don’t have the particulars at hand, but I have a friend that worked for UPS and they make a pretty decent living”

I had a girlfriend who loaded the vans at UPS. Despite having the workload constantly increased, pay didn’t rise accordingly. As far as she was concerned her union representation was a farce. That was in the the early 90’s.

I’m a firm proponent of unions, but having grown up in the UK in the 70s and 80s and worked alongside a few of them here in the US, their hierarchy can be prone to self serving ends. so the mere fact of a union isn’t always particularly commendable or worth relying-on, unfortunately.

  41. Rich H says:

    hellinabucket,

Now let’s be fair to George. The reason he couldn’t complete a thought or a sentence was because he fried his brain, not because he was stupid. By the way have you seen the photos of George at the Olympics, man he was shi*faced.

  42. Ms_Joanne says:

Since I ship regularly via FedEx, this decision will make me vigilantly argue to change to UPS. Since I have sway, let’s hope UPS does the right thing.

It doesn’t hurt that FedEx has mishandled five out of my last seven shipments…one box out of five has been lost in those shipments.

Come on UPS, give me a reason!

  43. pastcaring says:

OT, but I can’t help laughing that Klatuu changed it’s name from Klatu after it got slammed the other night.

    Such a strong, independent thinker.

  44. ALEJCARO says:

It’s simple to stop O’Reilly’s ambushes. When that weasel O’Reilly sends out ambushes you, just say this:
“Wow, Fox News. O’Reilly? Really?. Hey can you ask him where he buys his falaffels for sex? Cause I’m looking.”
and then keep repeating the same theme, because the weasel is going to be persistent, so you be persistent too:
“Yeah I’ll answer your questions, but you have to first tell me where O’Reilly gets his falaffels when he wants to have sex? You know, like when he sexually harassed his employee.”
“Sure, that’s a fair question, but I really need to buy falaffels, and I know O’Reilly knows where to get them” Can you hook me up?
    etc

  45. nanlichi says:

Klatuu, I recognize your need to subjugate yourself to an authority figure but really now, can’t you find a better hero to worship than Billo the Clown?

  46. Realness says:

gosh, Klatuu, you’re sure getting noticed! It’s like you always dreamed, I’m sure. You started small: a little jibe here, and funny little attack there, and look, you’re being noticed! People are really reading your work. You’ve made the right wing so proud, really sticking it to us TP libruls. Who knew this tactic would work so well?

    I await your next thoughts!

  47. cozmikdaisey says:

    Rich H

Like I said, I don’t know the details so I don’t know how well he was being represented, just that it was better than what he was doing and above minimum wage. I guess some representation is better than none. Since I live in Arizona (land of “Right to Work”) the fact that there was any union representation at all was amazing.

  49. Buckie Boy says:

I would be very surprised if UPS actually dropped advertising on Billo the falafel pervert’s show.

  50. Rich H says:

So true, I guess a so-so union is better than no union. I’ve wished I belonged to one in the past that’s for sure.

  52. pete says:

At the risk of being accused of spamming, I would like to repeat a post from another thread.

The only person harming Alexa, or her Foundation, is Bill0 himself. And he’ll keep on hurting her to prop up his fragile ego. He’s graduated from a piece of sh!t to a huge, steaming, pile. A vast mound of excrement. A mountain of filth.

That being said, I think it would be a great shame if people denied donations to the Alexa Foundation. In fact, I think it would be fantastic if everyone with the means sent them a donation along with a note explaining that we are saddened that their good work has been tainted by Bill0’s tirades, tantrums, and lies. It would disgust me if we who despise Bill0 made his lies come true. The only way to shame a shameless bully is to apologize for him.

Have you EVER had ANYTHING to contribute TO THE TOPIC OF the THREAD?I mean I knew you were STUPID. I knew you were GULLIBLE but in fact you are flat out DELUSIONAL. You have been ASSIMILATED. You are of the TP HIVEMIND. Reality is just a distant memory for you. Do you understand how PATHETIC you are? 59. Zooey says:

Now that’s a great response from UPS. No self-serving BS about hating BO, but not having any clout to actually do anything about it.

I’m looking forward to what they decide…

  60. wolfsinger says:

Money makes the Fox Noise machine run. Money makes the Clear Channel noise machine run too. Billions between the two. Millions for their bobble heads of hate who perform daily.

ONLY when the money stops will the hate stop.

You’d be surprised how fast Rush becomes a flag waving union supporter, marching for socialized medicine and taxes on the Fat Cats once he looses his golden perch and microphone and like Bush, only job option is a door greeter somewhere – maybe.

  61. turkeyfish says:

With regards to the campaign, I added to the letter that I would NOT be buying any products from these advertisers until they clarify their position.

If you REALLY want to get a response to the campaign, go on a full 24/7 online “stalk” of Ruppert Murdoch. After all, he’s the clueless CEO who makes all the profits from O’Reilly style journalism.

As noted by Keith Olbermann, his profits are down 40% this year. I say pile on and help them go down another 40%. Boycott his advertisers. The one thing this guy understands is money. Morality, rationality, fairness, and common sense are irrelevant to him. MONEY is the only thing that gets his attention.

  62. flight says:

    Hey turkeyfish!

I’m in your camp! Murdoch Has crossed the line big time. His orginizations do not present news or reasonable commentary.

I truely hope the New York Post has paid dearly for the chimp cartoon. What is Murdoch trying to do?
