BREAKING: UPS Announces It Will Stop Advertising On Bill O’Reilly’s Show
In response to our Stop Supporting The O’Reilly Harassment Machine campaign, UPS told us yesterday that it was investigating whether to continue supporting O’Reilly’s show. “We are sensitive to the type of television programming where our messages and presence are associated and continually review choices to affect future decisions,” spokeswoman Susan Rosenberg told us.
Today UPS announced it will stop advertising on O’Reilly’s show. Here is the statement UPS emailed out just moments ago:
Thank you for sending an e-mail expressing concern about UPS advertising during the Bill O’Reilly show on FOX News. We do consider such comments as we review ad placement decisions which involve a variety of news, entertainment and sports programming. At this time, we have no plans to continue advertising during this show.

Windancer, Lawyers cost a lot of money and time, and its almost impossible to win when your going against someone with a press pass. O’Reilly has always been able to deflect the stalking issue because he claims it is news. People who are outraged at these kind of tactics have a right to contact sponsors and express their concern for a company that would associate itself with a news show that uses the tactics of stalking.
First of all, these are criminal offenses, not civil. Thus, no one needs to hire a lawyer except Billo. The State prosecutes. Secondly, I don’t believe criminal charges have ever been filed against O’Reilly so it gives him latitude to claim doing these criminal acts is “news.” Thirdly, I don’t disagree that anyone outraged by these tactics can contact sponsors. All I’m saying is that an organized move to do so can just as easily and readily be done by the right-wing. The difference is this: criminal laws have been violated.

If you want information, and in-depth reporting, you pretty much have to get on-line.
Perhaps CNN is losing its audience because it’s not giving out good information. I wouldn’t call it “liberal”, at all. To assume that the reputedly liberal networks are losing audiences because people are disillusioned with President Obama and liberalism is to make quite a convenient leap.

March 27th, 2009 at 6:20 pmDidn’t think about the timing being bad, just went ahead and sent a thank you to UPS for listening and acting responsibly. Can’t make much difference to them but I will chose them when I have a choice and I told them that.
BTW as a woman who has been threatened at my job (I’m a teacher at a junior high, not everyone loves us), I can attest to the feeling of intimidation I would feel if two strange men approached me, especially at a place where I wouldn’t expect anyone to know me.
Having had to press charges in the past I know that a key element is how the ‘victim’ felt, not how someone else might feel. What isn’t intimidation or threatening for my 6′3″ larger younger fellow male teachers, is intimidation for me. Maybe not fair in some ways but as I understand it that is the way the law is written. If the acts are threatening in any way AND I feel threatened, then it is a threat.
Can’t say I feel much sympathy for those confrontational individuals that have to be careful how they comport themselves.

A day later they emailed ThinkProgress the statement saying that they had changed their advertising, as they said they would.
They didn’t yell it out like BillO would, but it’s still rather obvious what has happened.

In response to the person who said UPS is a privately held company, you are completely wrong. UPS is publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange. This is what happens when people spout off and expect others to accept what they say as gospel. If some of the comments that I read on these and other postings are the caliber of intelligence in this country, there is no hope for us. If UPS has dropped their advertising on O’Reilly’s show due to pressure from left-wing organizations like Think Progress and the unions, it won’t be any great loss. UPS didn’t say they were withdrawing advertising because of this site; It simply said they have no plans to advertise on the show now.
Those two are not the same thing and until UPS makes a more definitive statement, I think this kind of reporting is just as bad as how FOX twists things. If you want to “think progress” you have to be better than the other guys, not live in the same FOXhole they do.

I will continue using UPS and I will continue watching O’Reilly. From what I read here, I don’t think UPS stopped it’s O’Reilly advertising because of outside pressure. With Fox dominating cable news, I suspect UPS believes it has already reached an extremely large numbers of Fox viewers and will concentrate it’s advertising dollars elsewhere for a few months. That’s how advertising works.
Also, I fear you might cause UPS to lose business by wrongly influencing UPS customers to leave UPS. Is that your ulterior motive?

I guess FedEx gets my business now. I never liked UPS anyway, except for the account executive who always took me out to lunch on UPS’s dime until he got demoted. Everyone else is afraid to submit an expense report because their boss is like Anne Hathaway’s boss on “The Devil Wears Prada.” Even though we’re under contract to UPS, if we have a critical package that can’t be late, it always goes FedEx even if it costs more, especially the international packages. UPS is famously unreliable in Mexico. Who can afford to drive half a day to Mexico City if they mess up a shipment? FedEx is much more reliable, never had any problems, even when we were shipping entire planeloads of parts to Mexico. This just gives me one more reason to pull the plug on UPS. Stop advertising based on lies and misinformation about O’Reilly? They did not do their due diligence on this decision.

The email does not say UPS will stop advertising on O’Reilly. The word “stop” does not appear anywhere in the email.
All it says is:
1) thank you for emailing us;
2) we read your comments like we read everyone’s comments on where we place our ads; and
3) we looked at our current media schedule (usually an annual plan) and there don’t happen to be any more spots scheduled to be on O’Reilly
You can’t just read into this email what you want to be the truth. All this email says is that our current schedule doesn’t happen to include any more O’Reilly spots. Nothing more.
Don’t be surprised when in their next annual planning cycle O’Reilly shows up again in their media schedule.

Of all of the newscasts on TV (network or cable), Fox news is the best news and Fox news commentators are the best of the best on TV, “period”!!! Bill O’reilly always shows both sides of an issue – both the “far left liberal” and the conservative right” of an issue!!!Since I am not on “your far left bandwagon of far left zealots and fanatics, I challenge you to post this comment – to show that “you are fair and balanced”, when faced with an opposing view!!! When taking “disapproval rating” and “approval rating” together, President Obama has fallen below former President Bush at this point in his presidency.
Obama’s “disapproval” rating is stunning this early on and will continue to rise as more and more people realize that the emperor has no clothes.
Rush Limbaugh, on the other hand, is more popular today than ever. And every time the liberal media lies about him, his ratings go up. I used to think he was awful because, like you, I didn’t listen to him. When I decided to get my facts from the source, that changed. He’s a good man (not perfect, as only one man was) who gives away more money to help those who deserve it than you’ll ever see.
In the mean time, the liberal rags called newspapers are in “junk” status and will soon be bankrupt (well, those that haven’t already filed). So who exactly is unpopular?

April 1st, 2009 at 12:33 amI sent an email to UPS telling them that since they boycotted free speech, I was quitting UPS and going to other companies. Since then, UPS sent out the clarification statement that they had not boycotted Bill O’Reily’s show. I watch Bill’s program, and he takes great pains to be fair and balanced as well as respectful to women. Anyone who disagrees either does not watch the broadcasts, or is not giving Bill a fair shot. As far as MSNBC is concerned, it represents the death of journalism in America.
