Dear John Cornyn, "The government of the United States, by certain joint resolutions, bearing date the 1st day of March, in the year A.D. 1845, proposed to the Republic of Texas, then *a free, sovereign and independent nation* [emphasis in the original], the annexation of the latter to the former, as one of the co-equal states thereof, The people of Texas, by deputies in convention assembled, on the fourth day of July of the same year, assented to and accepted said proposals and formed a constitution for the proposed State, upon which on the 29th day of December in the same year, said State was formally admitted into the Confederated Union. " Sir this is also the date of my birth in 1979 A.D. I Take Extreme Offense In you declaring a "World war three" as a representative of Texas. You sir are irresponsible, and lack foresight. Once the republic of Texas you have violated our states commitment to the union. You should be tried. Your declaring World War 3 over another states business makes me fume like the brimstone of the baptist hell. When an elected official from a state like Texas, declares war, it's calling the state of Texas to arms. You are declaring war in the name of Texas, you idiot. In Texas, a former republic, this talk is just dangerous. Lets look at a little good ole Texas history secondary level approved curriculum. Six flags have flown over this state you moron, and two now fly on the same level! John, you are dangerous and must be removed, under Texas state law. As an elected official you have no right to speak of war. It incites people to acts of violence. Please resign.

Those who have been following this Election Contest and have read ALL the Court decisions know that Franken is the winner and that the GOP is going to sponsor Coleman to keep Franken tied-up in litigation for as far as Appeals will be heard.
Now that The Court has Ruled on Absentee Ballots and disenfranchisement, counting Ballots that are improperly rejected and disqualifying all the others which did not meet qualifying criteria; that issue becomes easier for the Appeals Court to decide upon. The central issue of "Double-counted" Absentee Ballots also Ruled on; leaving ex-Senator Coleman with one dying breath left: "Bush v. Gore."
This Case is NOT going to be heard by the Unites States Supreme Court if Coleman Appeals using "Bush v. Gore" as a deciding precedent. The Supreme Court has already written its
position on hearing anything based on "Bush v. Gore" when they wrote: "The Supreme Court presented no relevant precedent for their interpretation of the equal protection clause in this ruling and further stated that this interpretation applied ONLY to Bush v. Gore and was not to be used as precedent in any future case. According to the decision, "Our consideration is limited to the present circumstances, for the problem of equal protection in election processes generally presents many complexities."
The Supreme Court writes it in a manner which is clear and convincing, but difficult for anyone unfamiliar with how The Supreme Court politely warns you about what NOT to do.
What they mean, ex-Senator Coleman, IS: "Don't come near here with any weak bullshit about equal protection in an Election.
The State Courts have already made the call and we DO NOT WANT TO ENTERTAIN an argument of that nature."
No Dice. No way. Nice try. NO. Period. Get lost and stay lost.
Call a News conference. Concede the Election to Franken. It's OVER, you GOP obstructionist chump. You're a disgrace. To say the very least. Now you have seven more people who hate you!

Well it doesn't surprise me that someone from Texas is trying to throw his weight around where it doesn't belong. Although maybe Cornyn should focus more on the Mexican drug cartels overruning his state than on a senate race in Minnesota. (Personally, I'd like to see Texas taken down a peg.)

Coleman and the Republican strategy is clearly to keep Franken out as long as they can knowing Coleman will not win. If I can't play then Franken can't play. Any legitimate case brought to the courts should be fast-tracked and a time limit set for seating the Senator. 6 months is too long but at this point, may be reasonable.

So the repubs are perfectly OK in Minnesotta not getting equal representation.

I DO so much hope that the people of Minnesotta will remember this next election.

In the meantime, can Minnesotta claim "No Taxation without Representation" ?? Can they pull out of the USA as they aren't represented ? Can they join Canada ?

It's time we kept an organized list of who, in order of importance we need to get the hell out of our government, so I know where to throw my money next election cycle. This shouldn't be hard!

There are fourteen aspects to fascism. The fourteenth of these is fraudulent elections.

14. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

As the Republican Party descends deeper into fascism, they will continue to object to the results of elections, and as they continue to lose power, their use of dirty election tactic will increase in severity and frequency. We saw it with Bush and we see it with Coleman. We can expect lots more election nonsense from the Republicans in the coming elections.

The metaphor of starting world war III is a very fitting one. Once the GOP can no longer filibuster, they will become extremely frustrated and desperate. They might very well resort to a military coup of some type to take over the government of the United States. This would, of course, constitute civil war. Given the GOPs deviousness, they might attack another nation in an effort to, literally, start world war III, believing that they will somehow benefit if the United States gets into a world war.

I do want to disagree with some previous posters on the idea that world war III would necessarily be nuclear. It is entirely possible that a world war could be fought without nuclear weapons, although I agree that they would be used eventually, just as the losing side was about to be defeated.

The language the GOP is using these days identifies them as anti-American, even as terrorists in many cases. Why are they not being investigated? Imagine an ordinary citizens' group saying they will start WWIII, or telling people to be armed & dangerous against the government (as Michelle Bachmann said). The FBI would be all over them. The GOP really is dealing in lies, smears & violence lately. No logic, no substance, no patriotism.

I'm an informed Minnesotan and I'm pretty sure that Norm's local support is just about zero. Most of the pro-Norm comments one still sees are copy-paste jobs form a Reichwing blog or partial transcripts from some ReichRadio scumbag. Even those who don't realize they are repeating bald-faced lies are so wildly misinformed that they lack any semblance of credibility.

Hey, how would Texans like it if a MN senator decided to screw with their elections and leave them a Senator short? I have no problem with Texans in general (many fine liberal Texans have come down the pike,) my prob is with those that elect/re-elect this nozzle. To those I say: for a state that claims to be a Republic with "Don't Tread on Me" as their motto, you sure do produce a lot of pols who like butting their nose in other state's affairs (i.e. Tom Delay's Brooks Brothers mob of GOP staffers sent to Florida in 2000, to Rovian games in Ohio's elections in 2004, not to mention Bush admin's DEA trying to overturn other state's marijuana laws.)

State's rights, my ass GOP. What, is Texas so small and perfect that you have the time and need to meddle w/ other states?

My Minnesotan friends are rather embarrassed by Mr. Coleman and Ms. Bachmann, but they also understand the Republicans work for their Party and its Masters, and not the people who cast votes for them.

Too bad more R voters can't grasp that.

I was curious about what the people of MN thought about this and found that most of the people who wrote comments under this article in the Star Tribune were NOT happy.

Example:
And Norm said......After his narrow defeat of Franken,
"If I were trailing, I would step back." Well, Norm, it looks like you finally got your chance to do something right and good for Minnesota. STEP BACK!

111 of 124 people liked that comment.

Franken hasn't been seated because Pawlenty is a Republican. But it is nice of Conryn to allow time for the felony charges against Coleman to be processed.

Headline coming..."Republicans threaten WWIII to seat Felon!"

Didn't I recently see an article that opined that Mr. Cornyn made an attempt to block every single piece of Democratically sponsored legislation since, at least, 2006?

Screw etiquette and procedure. I generally see little logic in personal violence but, we need one real patriot to beat this particular scumbag within an inch of his life. And I would personally fund the defense of anyone with the resolve to simply spit in his face at every meeting.

its a shame that republicans care more about keeping al franken from trolling them on the senate floor than they do about getting the country out of this mess

Bring it, Cornyn. Democrats should seat Franken anyway. It would take YEARS for Cornyn and his wacko buddies to UNSEAT him.
This is just another republican delay tactic to keep the 59th Democratic vote out of the Senate.
