I think Predator strikes have not contributed positively. We’ve just heard so many bad things about them. They must really be killing the American image in the mind of the average Afghan. …

The problems is that they're sometimes not only killing "the American image" in the mind of the average Afghan, but that they're sometimes killing the average Afghan.

This is the one place where I part company with the President.

I do understand why his policy is what it is but I would hope that he is not the same bullheaded buttmunch that the shrub was.

If he were to have said b4 the election that he was getting out of Iraq and Afghanistan we would now have president McMarionette. And that would have been the end of life as we know it.

And he has said that throwing more troops in there is not going to be an open ended response. So there is hope.

But Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) is a very courageous man. Kudos to him!!!

I find it hard to believe that anyone still thinks that dressing a dog up in a tutu, teaching it to dance on it's front paws and smoke cigars makes it anything but a dog.

Come up with all the rationalizations you want and then go check and see if they were used with Viet Nam. We all know how well that worked out.

I'm surprised anyone still thinks the Afghanistan invasion had anything to do with "fighting terrorists." Very effective propaganda.

Dissent on this ill-advised escalation will grow as it becomes obvious that this is a quagmire-in-the-making.

Rep. Jim McDermott has some well-considered thoughts on the matter:

Ellison must know that Obama's handlers are all Zionists, and thus want perpetual war with Arabs, using the USA as a proxy, both militarily and financially.

bonn:
You forgot that Ellison is a Congressman, it is part of his job and duty to question the government...
It is in the Constitution.
Congress also approves the budget, declares war.
Ellison represents a district in his own state...Not only Ellison alone has that right but all of other states representatives do.
I wish Congress members question government even more than what they are doing these days.
The more the Congress questions government, the better for the country.

Editor’s Note: The U.S. government seems paralyzed at the prospect of holding ex-President George W. Bush and other senior officials accountable for war crimes, even as Spanish investigative judge Baltasar Garzon initiates an inquiry under international law regarding torture sanctioned by Bush’s lawyers.

In this guest essay, investigative journalist and former candidate for Vermont attorney general, Charlotte Dennett, describes a meeting with Sen. Patrick Leahy in which he acknowledges the failure of his plan for a “truth commission”:

Those of you following the George W. Bush prosecution trail will be interested to know that Patrick Leahy’s “truth commission” is a no-go. I was in a meeting with Leahy and four other Vermonters on Monday when he broke the news to us.

We had asked for the meeting to learn why he supported a truth commission over the appointment of a special prosecutor.

Halfway through the allotted 30 minute meeting (with him taking up much of the time explaining why he was not generally opposed to prosecution, since he had been a DA for eight years and had the highest conviction rate in Vermont), he told us that his truth commission had failed to get the broad support it needed in Congress, and since he couldn’t get one Republican to come behind the plan, “it’s not going to happen.”

It was a sobering exchange. The meeting had begun with our expressing serious concerns about ongoing dangers to our democracy, with the trend going to executive power while damaging our Constitution.

“We are a nation of laws,” said Dan DeWalt, who had helped organize 36 Vermont towns to vote for impeachment of Bush on town meeting day. “If we have a system of justice, why not let it take its course? It seems to many Americans that the rich and powerful don’t have the same system of justice, and they’re getting away with torture, murder, fraud, and Ponzi schemes.”

By the end of the meeting, we were beginning to wonder whether anything at all was going to done – by Congress, by Attorney General Eric Holder, by President Barack Obama – to hold the Bush team accountable for its crimes.
(continued)

Dear Senator Lahey,
No guts, no glory!

Dems Investigating Bush Administration Role In AIG Collapse
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/01/dems-investigating-bush-a_n_181868.html
A House oversight panel is investigating the role Bush administration officials and regulators played in the collapse of American International Group. The first step of the investigation begins Thursday, House Oversight and Government Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Towns (D-N.Y.) tells the Huffington Post, when the committee hears testimony from former AIG CEO Hank Greenberg.

In November 2004, the Bush Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission agreed not to prosecute AIG for allegedly helping companies fudge their books. In exchange, AIG agreed to host a government-appointed auditor in company meetings. At the time, Greenberg said it brought "finality to the claims raised by the SEC and the Department of Justice."

Towns said that Greenberg should be able to identify Bush administration officials involved in the decision-making around the settlement. Towns added the committee wants to know what Bush administration regulators knew about AIG's credit default swaps and other highly risky positions that brought the company down.

Asked if he would be directly pursuing Bush administration officials, Towns said: "No doubt about it. That's the reason I want to talk to Greenberg first. He might even point some folks out. That's of great interest to us."

Did you see their heads explode when Hillary had a chat with Iran's VP? Priceless! And messy!

HAHAHA

I haven't seen this one yet. Do you have a link?

repugs are so upset that the London protesters aren't relating the economy downturn to President Obama. The msm and the teabag repugs have planned, for a weeks, with glee, that President Obama's "honeymoon" would be over.

They don't want to understand, the dumbasses.
