Joe the Plumber stumped on Employee Free Choice Act: ‘I don’t know everything about everything.’

Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher, better known as “Joe the Plumber,” is currently in Pennsylvania shilling against the Employee Free Choice Act on behalf of the anti-labor group Americans for Prosperity. As ThinkProgress reported, Wurzelbacher faced a tough crowd near Pittsburgh on Monday, where union members rallied against him. He faced a similarly critical audience in Harrisburg yesterday, and then “skipped a subsequent rally in Philadelphia.” Keystone Progress caught up with Wurzelbacher in Harrisburg and asked him about why he opposes the Employee Free Choice Act. The fake plumber was stumped, admitting that he only knows “a little” on most issues. “I don’t know everything about everything,” he added. Watch it:

It is also a weak analogy, implied pseudorefutation ( a form of ad hominem), at least one dysphemism, nonargumetative persuasion, a complex question (the “stopped beating your wife” one), possibly affirming the consequent (..depends…), begging the question, and possibly equivocation.

This may be some style of an ambush, true, but there wasn’t any stalking involved. If anything, this is more like what O’Reilly’s producers did when they flagged down Bill Moyers at a conference, and I don’t see that instance as an “ambush” nor do I disagree with that approach.

So Sam “Joe” is a junior or an apprentice plumber…..maybe….

You wouldn’t want to hire those guys, they usually screw up their work, making you spend more money than required.

If this is a working class guy or a spokesman for the working class, then why isn’t he working instead of being a talking head for the right wingers of the GOP???

Now he’s honest? Saying he’s not a Republican when he worked for the McCain campaign is honest? Like he was honest when he called himself a plumber that was trying to buy his boss’s business that cleared $250k in profits a year. He’s not a plumber he’s a LABORER. The business isn’t for sale and because he’s not licensed he couldn’t own it without hiring a licenced plumber. AND the business doesn’t clear that kind of money now how could he do it paying a licensed plumber and himself?

So Sam “Joe” is a junior or an apprentice plumber…..maybe….

You wouldn’t want to hire those guys, they usually screw up their work, making you spend more money than required.

If this is a working class guy or a spokesman for the working class, then why isn’t he working instead of being a talking head for the right wingers of the GOP???

I think his 15 minutes of fame are about up.

Gee, if you’re actively campaigning against EFCA, don’tcha think you ought to know something about the issue? Obviously, Joe knows as much about EFCA as he does about ME politics or plumbing…not much.

But that’s fine by me…I think Joe needs even more exposure as the official Republican “common guy”. Maybe he can team up with Steele and Palin and take this show on the road.

She was stalked for two hours across state lines while on vacation before appearing on Olbermann. When you hire a publicist, as Joe has, who gets you jobs appearing at public events you are no longer a private citizen when you appear at said events.

For there to be equivalency, a reporter would have had to follow Joe from this event back to his home in Ohio where the reporter would have yelled at him something like “why are you against labor protection laws such as those which prohibit children working in sweat shops?”

He’s 40 some years old. Apparently he never went to trade school or he would be a licensed plumber. You are an apprentice after trade school. Without it you are just a laborer.

Plumbing companies may have sales of way more than $250k a year. You don’t pay taxes on sales you pay them on net profit. Which he’d be unlikely to have while paying a different licensed plumber for his work. No matter what kind of corporation he formed C or Sub S he himself would be unlikely to clear $250K.

  135. A Patriotic Anopheles Acting says:

tfapla, you have clearly admitted that Sam W. was being honest when he admitted ignorance on the details of the topic which the Republican Party sent him on tour to talk about. You consider his candor of of his own ignorance as something commendable, defending his stating that he doesn’t “know everything about everything”. According to the article, “Harrisburg and asked him about why he opposes the Employee Free Choice Act.” Seems like an ultimately basic question requiring the simplest of answers and you respect him for not being able to reply to this simple question? You also clearly stated that you considered it wrong for Ms. Terkel to have been tailed across state lines. To quote your post, “No it is not ok to stalk anyone across state lines. Who did that?” Are you claiming ignorance to the known fact that Bill-o’s goons followed her across state lines for over two hours, waited outside while Ms. terkel checked into her hotel and accosted her in the parking lot while returning to her car? Now remember, the O’Reilly blog that she posted was one of scores of topics that she had blogged about since the two weeks between her posting and her being accosted and the topic that Sam W. boasts ignorance is the reason for him being on this media tour. Your either sadly ignorant of what you say (a trait you obviously consider commendable) or you are just being dishonest (my bet). In either case you should maybe reconsider your arguement that you come here for hours every day to honestly debate a topic because in either scenario you are anything but honest to yourself or others. I’m just trying to help you.

You would not see me looking “stumped” if I was asked why my position on the issue was what it was.

But Joe the Pooper Scooper was a spokesperson for Sarah Palin. Why should he try to do better than her?

I’ll take 250k net and pay 50% in taxes. Where do I sign up?

And, as soon as somebody wants to pay me $8 million a year, I’ll pay 70%, and still whistle all the way to the bank.

If Joe prefers the idiot math, that’s his business, and he should keep it to himself.

  183. shoeless Chilopoda says:

Joe’s problem was that he tried to talk to someone other than the idiot base of the Republican Party. That is also how Sarah Palin got into trouble.

  187. tombaker says:

I’ll just go straight to the flag for mr. driveby.

too bad Obama doesn’t impress dummies more,

maybe he should take more pills and smoke more cigars.

  188. Tweedster says:

Haha, I love how deeply ingrained the stupid is in the reich wingers that find it odd that a man trying to explain complex things in simple terms while thinking on his feet doesn’t come off like a sound-bite spewing automaton.

    Bring ‘em on!

    Dead or alive!

    Go f*#% yourself!!!

    Ahh, right-wing eloquence indeed.

Didn’t Rush Limabaugh tell about that?

  190. Tweedster says:

You effing moron, the teleprompter helps Obama read? Or does he read a teleprompter? You are joke.

Dick Cheney’s Secret Service code name?

  194. Tweedster says:

TOTUS = completely uninventive and stupid troll acronym for “Teleprompter of the United States”

You know, why would we want to be led by someone who wants to communicate with us in a well-thought out and thorough manner?

Right-wingers may not know much about anything, but they know what they like.

It is crazy how it out-stupids itself!

    How does it do it?!

Jackass, I would have rather had the past 8 years with Hal 9000 at the helm than your moronic hero GWB.

  198. Tweedster says:

    Dr. Moth Matt Says:

troll, please tell us what is wrong with using a teleprompter. Thanks.

It indicates preparation, foresight, respect for being a clear communicator, and basically everything GWB didn’t stand for in a lot of ways.

  199. Doodlebug Shayne says:

The trolls are so stupid they think Obama is the first president to use a teleprompter. They’ll believe anything Rush tells them.

  200. nanlichi nasschagii says:

I hope you are wrong about that Tweedster, a teleprompter would get more votes than the list of idiots I posted. I am hoping for some combination of Palin/Joe/Rush.

  201. Doodlebug Shayne says:

They attack Obama for reading the speeches he writes himself off a teleprompter but never once complained about Bush needing the speeches other wrote for him spelled out phonetically.

  202. ChaiKat says:

He doesn’t seem to know anything about anything either.

  203. Doodlebug Shayne says:

Because Bush was unable to read at eve a third grade level his followers thought he didn’t use a teleprompter. It’s sad really.

  204. Tweedster says:

    Doodlebug Shayne Says:

And equating using a teleprompter with a lack of intelligence. They are seriously like middle school kids who pick on the kid with glasses because it looks “dorky” all the while those glasses allow the kid to see the chalkboard and get better grades than they do.

The problem with Joe the “Plumber” is that he’s another one of the GOP tools that the GOP loves to trumpet from the working class to suggest that the working class does not really embrace unionization, labor, etc. Joe does not speak for unionized plumbers as much as I do not speak for President Obama…To suggest he represents the working class is nothing more than the shell game that the GOP has played on those working class people who vote GOP…

It means you KNOW you are too stupid to think for yourself. Go kill yourself. It would be the best favor you could do for YOURSELF. At least you wouldnt be humilating yourself day after day.
