Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher, better known as “Joe the Plumber,” is currently in Pennsylvania shilling against the Employee Free Choice Act on behalf of the anti-labor group Americans for Prosperity. As ThinkProgress reported, Wurzelbacher faced a tough crowd near Pittsburgh on Monday, where union members rallied against him. He faced a similarly critical audience in Harrisburg yesterday, and then “skipped a subsequent rally in Philadelphia.” Keystone Progress caught up with Wurzelbacher in Harrisburg and asked him about why he opposes the Employee Free Choice Act. The fake plumber was stumped, admitting that he only knows “a little” on most issues. “I don’t know everything about everything,” he added. Watch it:
Then maybe you should shut the F!@k up, Sam.

It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.– Mark Twain (1835-1910)

Ata glance, I would say that this is a form of tu quoque. It is also a weak analogy, implied pseudorefutation ( a form of ad hominem), at least one dysphemism, nonargumetative persuasion, a complex question (the “stopped beating your wife” one), possibly affirming the consequent (..depends…), begging the question, and possibly equivocation.
ALL of which are illogical arguments that, in and of themselves, pretty much invalidate the argument as they are not sound (of course, the point may or may not be true, but the supporting arguments are not valid, and thus do not prove the point).

This may be some style of an ambush, true, but there wasn’t any stalking involved. If anything, this is more like what O’Reilly’s producers did when they flagged down Bill Moyers at a conference, and I don’t see that instance as an “ambush” nor do I disagree with that approach.

So Sam “Joe” is a junior or an apprentice plumber…..maybe….
You wouldn’t want to hire those guys, they usually screw up their work, making you spend more money than required.
If this is a working class guy or a spokesman for the working class, then why isn’t he working instead of being a talking head for the right wingers of the GOP???
I think his 15 minutes of fame are about up.
April 1st, 2009 at 1:37 pmNow he’s honest? Saying he’s not a Republican when he worked for the McCain campaign is honest? Like he was honest when he called himself a plumber that was trying to buy his boss’s business that cleared $250k in profits a year. He’s not a plumber he’s a LABORER. The business isn’t for sale and because he’s not licensed he couldn’t own it without hiring a licenced plumber. AND the business doesn’t clear that kind of money now how could he do it paying a licensed plumber and himself?

If that is what happened, yes. But that’s the problem. Amanda Terkel was NOT simply approached and there weren’t real questions. For there to be equivalency, a reporter would have had to follow Joe from this event back to his home in Ohio where the reporter would have yelled at him something like “why are you against labor protection laws such as those which prohibit children working in sweat shops?”
April 1st, 2009 at 1:43 pmHey lapfat, I’ve been meaning to ask you: how’s the weather in tampa, florida?
April 1st, 2009 at 1:43 pmI hope these leaders of the GOP never shut up and are ALWAYS in the news . . from Rush to Palin to Joe to O’Reilly and on and on and on. I don’t care if the Dems turn our to be Satan’s minions . . . with these morons running the GOP they will never be in charge of anything ever again. All we have to do is to hold on long enough til the old white male dies off.
April 1st, 2009 at 1:43 pmThats a plumbers helper…
April 1st, 2009 at 1:44 pmHeck, I can go to Home Depot and buy PVC pipe, p-traps, water valves and water heaters and install them but it doe not make me a plumber.
April 1st, 2009 at 1:45 pm*does not
April 1st, 2009 at 1:46 pmtpfala spewed:
The GOP can push Joe, Michael and Sarah as long as the left keeps pushing Frank, Dodd and Geithner, Ok?
Sorry, but Frank, Dodd and Geithner each shit more brain cells than Joe, Michael and Sarah possess, together. But you forgot Michelle!
After reading your responses here, I’m actually quite amazed you can type at all, given your complete lack of logical thinking capacity and apparently absent capacity for reasoned thinking.
But I want to thank Michael Steele, Sarah Palin, Joe “I don’t know what I am, but I’m not a PLumber” and Michelle Bachmann for making our jobs just that much easier.
April 1st, 2009 at 1:46 pmtpafla Says:
Plumbers that work under a master plumber do not need a license until they become master plumbers. Joe’s boss needed the license which he had. But whatever that doesn’t sound good when your trashing a private citizen, does it.
OH, really? Then why have tests for both Journeyman & Master Plumber licenses?
Keep posting, moron, you are showing more stupidness with every post.
April 1st, 2009 at 1:47 pmHe’s 40 some years old. Apparently he never went to trade school or he would be a licensed plumber. You are an apprentice after trade school. Without it you are just a laborer.
Plumbing companies may have sales of way more than $250k a year. You don’t pay taxes on sales you pay them on net profit. Which he’d be unlikely to have while paying a different licensed plumber for his work. No matter what kind of corporation he formed C or Sub S he himself would be unlikely to clear $250K.
April 1st, 2009 at 1:47 pmOur troll entertainer shares the common troll affliction of quoting others, but refusing to identify the passages that they have quoted.
Whether this is an attempt to introduce confusion into the reader (which can only help the troll’s message) or a desire to include some language that’s reasonably well composed (a task with which trolls have a notoriously difficult time) or simple laziness, is unclear.
But one can make a reasonable case for plagiarism when it happens.
April 1st, 2009 at 1:48 pmJoe certainly has a right to his opinion, no matter how uninformed he is, but dont expect people to agree with him, especially his blue collar brothers, when he works against their prosperity for his personal gain.
April 1st, 2009 at 1:49 pmtpafla says it is unfair to ask Joe questions on a subject he’s paid to take question on that day.
Hey he wasn’t wearing a short skirt or drinking so there’s no justification for assaulting him right?
April 1st, 2009 at 1:50 pmralph, in this particular case, I think you’re giving way too much credit where it’s not due.
there’s just not enough wattage present to make that kind of determination.
i think we’re dealing with something a little further down the foodchain.
April 1st, 2009 at 1:50 pmNice.
April 1st, 2009 at 1:51 pmWurzelbacher faced a tough crowd near Pittsburgh on Monday, where union members rallied against him. He faced a similarly critical audience in Harrisburg yesterday, and then “skipped a subsequent rally in Philadelphia.”
I thought Joe the Plumber’s Helper was a tough guy. He runs home to his mama instead of facing the union memebers in Philly.
April 1st, 2009 at 1:52 pmdumb dumber Joe the plumber..
April 1st, 2009 at 1:53 pmI know some union members in Philly.
Joe made the wise choice.
April 1st, 2009 at 1:54 pmTPAFLA is not answering. He must have something to hide.
April 1st, 2009 at 1:55 pmtpafla Says:
Again you’re supporting the guilty and attacking the victim. Pathetic
You are a moron.
April 1st, 2009 at 1:55 pmIt does if you are a Republican. I used to think Republicans hated labor in general. Now, I realized they just hate skilled labor.
April 1st, 2009 at 1:55 pmtpafla Says:
doodle,
Maybe you want him in a short skirt and drinking.
Holy cow! Something stoopid from tpafla!!
April 1st, 2009 at 1:56 pmWell, tpafla, when the GOP people hes traveling with call him ‘blue collar’ it means laborer.
April 1st, 2009 at 1:57 pmhey tpafla, do you know more about EFCA than Joe the Laborer?
April 1st, 2009 at 1:57 pm“I only know what they tell me to know….”
Cheers,
April 1st, 2009 at 1:57 pmAt least he would have been honest. Instead he pretended to be something he wasn’t.
Not a good way to start a relationship with the public.
Wait — I thought you insisted that Amanda wasn’t “harassed”?
Then you claimed that if she was harassed, then Joe was harassed.
Now you claim that Joe is being harassed.
Does that mean that you now admit that Amanda was harassed? It would appear so.
April 1st, 2009 at 1:58 pmtpafla Says:
that’s what I said he needed to take a test to get a license. When the left decided to ask him what he did for a living would you have been happy if he said “a laborer”? Then you would leave him alone right? Stop harrassing him already.
How about the lady that snooped all through his private business. She got fired.
If he is going to a rally and talking to reporters, then reporters are going to ask him questions.
No one is harassing him when he willingly talks to reporters and makes a flaming fool out of himself.
Kind of like you when you keep posting and flaunting your Stupid.
April 1st, 2009 at 1:59 pmtpafla is just flat out reaching for the stars today, huh?
that is some kind of pluck and determination,
too bad it can’t be put to a constructive purpose.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:01 pmI’ll type this slowly … the company Joe was talking about buying does not and since he’d have to pay a licensed plumber it is unlikely he would for a long time. Get it.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:01 pmHow can I pretend to be a Fox News ambush reporter when Tpafla won’t help? It’s not fair!

April 1st, 2009 at 2:02 pmtfapla, you have clearly admitted that Sam W. was being honest when he admitted ignorance on the details of the topic which the Republican Party sent him on tour to talk about. You consider his candor of of his own ignorance as something commendable, defending his stating that he doesn’t “know everything about everything”. According to the article, “Harrisburg and asked him about why he opposes the Employee Free Choice Act.” Seems like an ultimately basic question requiring the simplest of answers and you respect him for not being able to reply to this simple question? You also clearly stated that you considered it wrong for Ms. Terkel to have been tailed across state lines. To quote your post, “No it is not ok to stalk anyone across state lines. Who did that?” Are you claiming ignorance to the known fact that Bill-o’s goons followed her across state lines for over two hours, waited outside while Ms. terkel checked into her hotel and accosted her in the parking lot while returning to her car? Now remember, the O’Reilly blog that she posted was one of scores of topics that she had blogged about since the two weeks between her posting and her being accosted and the topic that Sam W. boasts ignorance is the reason for him being on this media tour. Your either sadly ignorant of what you say (a trait you obviously consider commendable) or you are just being dishonest (my bet). In either case you should maybe reconsider your arguement that you come here for hours every day to honestly debate a topic because in either scenario you are anything but honest to yourself or others. I’m just trying to help you.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:02 pmOT: One of my posts about hanging Bush was quoted on TP Watch. I feel proud. (:-D)
April 1st, 2009 at 2:02 pmYou the predator enabling liar are talking about somebody else having class and grace. Don’t bother perv.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:02 pmCongrats! That means you’ve made it!
April 1st, 2009 at 2:04 pmHi-5 to you Uncle Ho. Under their skin is exactly where to be.
Now, as many as a dozen crazed wingnuts will see your comment.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:05 pmJoe the plumber is working to undermine the livelihood of real plumbers.
I seriously doubt he is interested in buying a plumbing company or becoming a real plumber.
Paying Joe to speak on something he knows little about can only mean one thing. Propaganda.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:06 pmtpa – let me guess – you’re an “independent”, right?
y, thought so.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:06 pmtpafla the stalker keeps talking about Amanda when the topic is Joe. No wonder he is so accepting of the guys who attack the victim and blame her for her own murder. He is just like every other predator blaming somebody else for his crime.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:07 pmIt’s time to call the GOP a CULT!!!
Let’s call a spade a spade. The GOP is a freaky, KOOKY CULT, that does nothing for the middle class or poor. They say nothing that’s important.
They’re lead by:
1) Joe the Plumber…who’s name isn’t “Joe”…and who isn’t a plumber
2) An AM talk radio entertainer – Rush Limbaugh
3) A 13 year old creepy kid who wrote a book about “conservatism”.
Next up: the 13 year old CPAC creepy kid will lecture us on not using contraception…stay tuned…
I can’t believe this is a party in this country.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:07 pmtpafla Says:
Tweed,
You have such a fascinating and elegant way of talking to people that do not agree with you.
Really such class and grace.
Not only do I not agree with you, I stand by the fact that you are a moron since your posts contradict each other and generally don’t make sense ALL in the name of trying to make some sort of counterpoint. Except, when you start comparing apples and oranges, your counterpoints come of as moronic and stupid. Hence, my assessment of your diminutive intellect.
Make a point that makes sense and engage in an actual argument without having to distort and lie about shit or buzz off dumbass.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:07 pmAlso, they control the corporate media, and have spent billions calling the corporate media “liberal” – the biggest sham of all time, and the most successful one.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:09 pmYep, sounds to me like our Floridian friend is acknowledging that Amanda was harassed by Bildo’s goons.
This is a direct contradiction to what she posted in post 88:
Will our confused friend address this discrepancy?
April 1st, 2009 at 2:09 pmgot that right Dan. not only a cult, but a cult that engages in organized criminal behavior. that party should be prosecuted under the RICO statute and dismantled. its wild-eyed supporters then need to be de-programmed, just like escapees of other cult operations.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:09 pmThe GOP is so out of touch with the majority of Americans, they think “Joe the Plumber” is going over BIG with us!!!
They have no concept of what is going on, they’re in their own little CULT world. Like Jim Jones.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:10 pmReally? A dozen?
You’re counting multiple visits, right?
April 1st, 2009 at 2:10 pmtpfla attacks Keystone for trying to get a legitimate answer from a guy who is paid to be an expert on just this subject. Sums up the conservative mentality in a nutshell.

luis,
Missed it. Ask again.
I think you guys missed something, I didn’t say Joe was not a fool for not knowing about something he should. I did say that Keystone Progress kept asking over and over again the same question. After Joe said “I don’t know everything about everything” then the guy should have left, no? He kept harrassing him. I don’t think he is going to cry victim though.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:05 pm
Don’t worry , knowing the hypocritical nature of those like yourself , it’s merely a matter of time before Dildo O’Lielly tries to laughably claim that TP is responsible for “harassment” and “stalking”………..
April 1st, 2009 at 2:10 pmtpafla:
He kept harrassing him.
Here is what I mean by a moronic statement.
When you put yourself up as a spokesperson for a movement and go to rallies that are open to press coverage and advocate a political position, you are fair game to be questioned by the press. You are an idiot to equate this to FOX’s tactic, which happened under completely different circumstances and for different reasons. SOOOOO, STFU.

Oh. If only there were some way of looking at all the comments above this one…
April 1st, 2009 at 2:11 pmtflappadoodle, paging tflappadoodle to the newest thread! Papa Bear said some more stupid shit and is being disrepected by a bunch of libruls! Better get in there and start defending! Don’t forget to bring your stupid!
April 1st, 2009 at 2:11 pmJoe the Pooper Scooper was complaining that the revenues of the company he wanted to buy would give him an income of $280,000, and Obama’s plan would raise taxes 3% on the $30,000 above $250,000. A company which could supply the owner with that much income would sell for at least a few million dollars. So, Joe would have basing a multi-million dollar decision on a $900 tax increase.
Anyone who is that stupid would drive the company into the ground in short order and wouldn’t have to worry about taxes at all.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:12 pmthanks ralph – didn’t want that to be misinterpreted as a snark on Uncle Ho.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:12 pmAnyone who doesn’t think the GOP controls the corporate media, just check out http://mediamatters.org/
April 1st, 2009 at 2:12 pmtpfla, here’s an idea, maybe you and Joe should both shut your yaps on subjects you obviously don’t understand.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:12 pmYou saw what happened when this CULT, the GOP, had all the power from 2000 to 2008.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:13 pmYeah, like buying plumbing businesses.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:14 pmralph:
Will our confused friend address this discrepancy?
The only possible way he could do that is by admitting he’s a dummfuk and can’t even get his lies straightened out.
Jeez, I sometimes wish the trolls here were more competent than Sam-Joe-Taxcheat-Assistant-Plumber-Correspondent-Author-Lunchpail-Infomercial-Bic Fan-Flannel-Wurelzeebub…
April 1st, 2009 at 2:14 pm195 – Joe just works on the gross – one of the things he doesn’t know everything about is that-businesses-have-operating-expenses-that-come-out-of-their-gross-revenues.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:15 pmThe American people woke up to this SHAM CULT called the GOP, that is why you see REAL plumbers getting out the pitchforks for the FAKE CULT GOP plumber, Joe the Plumber…who’s name isn’t “Joe”…and who isn’t a plumber…
April 1st, 2009 at 2:16 pmHello tpafla:
It’s raining here. I got my wings wet and had to walk back to my nest. You know what that is like don’t you? Being all wet, I mean.
I was wondering if Joe Plumb Bob makes you warm and horny?
April 1st, 2009 at 2:17 pmThe GOP CULT sham is over! No one is listening to them anymore! We see through all the infomercial FAKERY!
April 1st, 2009 at 2:18 pmBS Tpafla cannot even define EFCA nor can he defend his opposition to it nor can he figure out a way to actually debate anything due to his immense ignorance nor can he use a numbered comment board w/time-stamps to access previously posted question as Luis M pointed out. What an empty hat this clown is…
April 1st, 2009 at 2:18 pmtpafla Says:

Whatever shite-monger…keep on sucking, it is basically all you are capable of.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:20 pmI thought he was talking about his personal take home income from the business. If he was talking about gross revenues, he is too stupid to remember to breath.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:20 pmshoeless Chilopoda Says:

April 1st, 2009 at 2:22 pmtpafla,
so yea, what is your beef with EFCA? do you know anything about it?
April 1st, 2009 at 2:22 pmJust because that kid conservatron is creepy doesn’t mean all children are. Of course if you consider them all creepy you can justify stalking them, right? Tell us what that missing 8 year old girl in California did to justify her abduction. We know you’re all about making excuses for the predators.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:22 pmtpafla may not be Joe the Plumber, but he is dumb enough to be the spokesperson for the 2012 Palin/Jinal campaign.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:24 pmtpoopfly,
April 1st, 2009 at 2:24 pmShouldn’t you be at work to support my lazy, non working, no kids arse?
Joe made under $40K a year and was worried about having to pay taxes when he earned over $25OK. I’d rather pay higher taxes on a million then lower taxes on $40K but Joe can’t do that kind of math.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:24 pmHe just knows it is a bad thing.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:26 pmtpafla Says
April 1st, 2009 at 1:30 pm
I know being honest would be way above your pay grade, but do you people think you know “everything about everything”?
____________________________________________________________
Of course not. But if I was being paid to make a public appearance to speak out on a particular issue, you can bet I’d have bothered to learn enough about the issue to sound at least reasonably intelligent when talking about it. You would not see me looking “stumped” if I was asked why my position on the issue was what it was.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:29 pmtombaker tells me the plumbing business in question had gross revenues of $250,000. Unless he was a complete moron, the owner of a business that small would probably pay no income taxes whatsoever.

April 1st, 2009 at 2:30 pmBut Joe the Pooper Scooper was a spokesperson for Sarah Palin. Why should he try to do better than her?
April 1st, 2009 at 2:33 pmBig Dan says: I can’t believe this is a party in this country.
In 1930s Germany, they were called Nazis.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:34 pmI’ll take 250k net and pay 50% in taxes. Where do I sign up?
And, as soon as somebody wants to pay me $8 million a year, I’ll pay 70%, and still whistle all the way to the bank.
If Joe prefers the idiot math, that’s his business, and he should keep it to himself.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:36 pmJoe’s problem was that he tried to talk to someone other than the idiot base of the Republican Party. That is also how Sarah Palin got into trouble.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:36 pmNow they’re called dumbasses.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:39 pmA 13 year old creepy kid who wrote a book about “conservatism”.

April 1st, 2009 at 2:58 pmI hope you are wrong about that Tweedster, a teleprompter would get more votes than the list of idiots I posted. I am hoping for some combination of Palin/Joe/Rush.
April 1st, 2009 at 2:59 pmThey attack Obama for reading the speeches he writes himself off a teleprompter but never once complained about Bush needing the speeches other wrote for him spelled out phonetically.
April 1st, 2009 at 3:00 pmHe doesn’t seem to know anything about anything either.
April 1st, 2009 at 3:01 pmBecause Bush was unable to read at eve a third grade level his followers thought he didn’t use a teleprompter. It’s sad really.

April 1st, 2009 at 3:21 pmThis is joke, right?
A regular posing as a troll, correct?
The problem with Joe the “Plumber” is that he’s another one of the GOP tools that the GOP loves to trumpet from the working class to suggest that the working class does not really embrace unionization, labor, etc. Joe does not speak for unionized plumbers as much as I do not speak for President Obama…To suggest he represents the working class is nothing more than the shell game that the GOP has played on those working class people who vote GOP…
April 1st, 2009 at 3:53 pmtpafla, IT’S clear that you think it’s not stalking when Republicans do it…IOKIYAR…
April 1st, 2009 at 3:56 pmD’oh! He doesn’t have to know everything about everything, but knowing something about what he is campaigning against would be a start. Can the guy not even memorize a couple talking points? He’s as good a spokesperson as he is a plumber [sic].
April 1st, 2009 at 3:59 pmKind of explains everything from, for and about this scab, eh? Try knowing of what you speak Joe.
April 1st, 2009 at 4:04 pmThis self-serving, extend-my-15-minutes-of-fame-as-long-as-possible loser is not stumping against the EFCA because it’s what he believes.

Drummond: Do you ever think about things that you do thing about?
drive by troll Says:
Its sad how pathetic and ignorant you are. So stupid you cant even manage to think up your OWN stupid and have to repeat what you were TOLD to believe by a screechmonkey on the radio. Its just as ignorant as what you would come up with but at least YOURS would be orignial ignorance. It must suck to be as stupid as you and only be able to regurgitate the thoughts of others. It means you KNOW you are too stupid to think for yourself. Go kill yourself. It would be the best favor you could do for YOURSELF. At least you wouldnt be humilating yourself day after day.

…and the “liberal” NYTimes spiked the story until after the election.
At least Obama has a teleprompter, and not a wire hidden in his back.
