In 2004 Americans burned through about 140 billion gallons of gasoline. This translated – at about $0.09 per gallon – to approximately $12.6 billion in oil company profits. These are the profits Hillary Clinton wanted to seize a while back, to pour into a new government slush fund for “alternative energy” solutions – uhm, like the Tesla. No mention of what the government has done with the tens of billions they’re already raking in – as pure profit – from the sales of gasoline.

By comparison with the oil companies, the pure windfall profits to State and federal government from the sale of gasoline in 2004 was approximately 63 billion dollars – about five times as much as the “obscene” oil company profits Clinton wanted to steal. This is simply in keeping with the Democrat mindset: all industry is simply a source of revenue for the government.

Oh, and that whole ethanol thing? Ethanol additives reduce gasoline efficiency considerably. This forces consumers to purchase more gallons of gasoline. And every gallon of gasoline has that same (average combined State/federal) $0.45 tax, regardless of how the ethanol additive hurts mileage. Guess who has mandated ethanol additives, forcing you to purchase more gallons of gasoline, forcing you in turn to hand over more money to the government. That’s right: the government.

Electric cars will mean a windfall tax revenue loss to government that they’re simply not willing to accept.
