Flashback: In his last year in office, Bush still didn’t know what the G20 was.

bush10.jpgPresident Obama — in a departure from President Bush — has made a point during his G20 visit to emphasize that the economic crisis demands a collective global response. Indeed, in a phone call with Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd last October about the financial collapse, Rudd told Bush that the best response should involve the broader G20, including China — while Bush wanted response to be handled within the G7. Bush, however, reportedly didn’t have a clue what the G20 was:

Informed sources have confirmed the discussion took place on a speaker telephone with a Rudd staffer taking notes.
After the President explained the pressure from Europe for a G7-brokered action on supporting the credit sector and reforming regulation, Rudd immediately insisted the G20 was the solution.

Rudd was then stunned to hear Bush say: “What’s the G20?”

Look at what President Obama has done with the G20 in two days…

He’s basically got the stubborn Euros to agree with economic reform & stricter regulatory considerations.

He tacitly agreed with Russia’s President to reduce nuclear arms.

Even the protesters were supportive; they were out for ‘The Banksters’ heads. (They burned Bush in effigy last time.)

Britain hasn’t been this excited about a U.S. President’s arrival since JFK.

Oh, and he happens to know what the G20 IS!

  12. misscoleopteramolly says:

I’m surprised that Bush didn’t know what “G20″ referred to, unless he referred to the “Group of Twenty Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors” by a different name (like that one).

After all, this group has been in existence since 1999, and as POTUS, he surely would have attended their annual meeting each year during his presidency.

He couldn’t have slept through ALL of them — could he? Or maybe he really was just a wind-up doll — told to go attend a meeting here, a conference there — without really understanding who he was meeting with or what they were doing.

The vast majority of military translators in both war zones are drawn from the local population. Naturally they speak the local language. In Iraq, that’s Arabic or Kurdish. In Afghanistan, it’s any of a half dozen other languages — including Pashtu, Dari, and Farsi.” (David Wright and Sunlen Miller, “Obama Gaffes On Iraq And Afghanistan,” ABC News, 5/13/08

So there is room for theological argument as to whether the American reciprocity of touch was allowable given the social dynamics of the situation. (Less explicable was when President George W. Bush winked at the Queen.)

Not knowing how many states we have in the USA would be pretty bad, and President Obama has given us no reason to believe that he is not aware that there are fifty of them, plus the District of Columbia and six insular areas (totaling 57, by the way). All his “gaffe” showed is that a tired candidate is capable of making a slip of the tongue now and then.

Bush was stupid and is stupid and the World knew it but our Media called it Bushisms and we laughed as the continued to steal. The winner is Bush, Cheney, Wall Street, War Profiteers, Banks and the GOP as now the American people have to paid the 11 Trillion dollar debt Bush caused. you don’t know sarah:

Congressional Republicans decided Tuesday to ditch the former GOP vice presidential nominee in favor of the former House speaker for the critical House-Senate fundraising dinner in June 8 in Washington. It’s the marquee Republican event to raise money for GOP House and Senate candidates.

Just weeks ago, the House and Senate Republican campaign committees were giddy at securing the telegenic Palin for the dinner. But then things grew murky. At the time, the Alaska governor’s office told FOX News that Palin was still considering the invitation and had not yet made a decision. Meantime, spokespersons for the committees insisted that Palin was scheduled and it was just a misunderstanding between the Alaska governor’s office and Palin’s political action committee, SarahPAC, that accepted the invite.

    ________________________________________________________

Seriously, is this all you have?

Yes, Michelle Obama put her hand gently on the upper back of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. And Her Majesty put her arm around Mrs. Obama’s waist. In fact, several witnesses claimed the Queen placed her hand first.

And yes, President Obama gifted Her Majesty with an iPod. A video iPod, which Her Majesty had requested. True, she already had an audio iPod (which she got at the suggestion of her son, Prince Andrew). The iPod given to her by Obama was pre-loaded with Richard Rodgers songs and other showtunes (Rodgers being a favorite with the Queen), and video footage of her 2007 visit to the U.S. Obama also gave her a rare songbook signed by Richard Rodgers. The Queen’s favorite musical is “Oklahoma”, and she and Prince Philip even think of “People Will Say We’re In Love” as “their song” — dating back to the days when they chose to keep their engagement a secret because her father didn’t want to announce it until Elizabeth turned 21. The Queen was pleased with these gifts.

Most of the other crap you posted have to do with simple misspeaks (Obama meant to say “47 states”, not 57, for example — nobody truly thinks Obama believed that seven states mysteriously joined the union during his campaign).

Obama may mispronounce a city accidentally, but he knows what G20 is. More than we can say for your guy (not only does he question what “G20″ is, but his Bushisms have already filled several books).

But keep trying — it’s kind of fun to watch trolls flail wildly.

Um…I read it, but all I can see is that Rudd is being criticized for spreading the story. There’s nothing in there that says Rudd (or anybody else) was lying about the conversation.

Not that it really matters. Bush is history at this point.

But let’s pretend for a moment that this whole story is a product of Rudd’s imagination. Bush has demonstrated his dimness to the point where people would readily believe this is true, and that’s somewhat telling. Nobody would believe this story if it was about Obama. Or Clinton. Or Reagan. Or even Daddy Bush. In fact, the last person in the White House who people would believe capable of making this kind of blunder was Dan Quayle — a guy whose wattage is so low that when a late night comedian joked that Quayle was reluctant to visit Latin America because he never learned Latin, people believed that was a direct quote from Quayle for years.
