We dont know any such thing. THESE are the things we DO know. Stevens DID take gifts, which he doesnt deny. He DID fail to report them as is the requirement. That is not in dispute. Only a MORON would say that means he was targetted by koolaid drinkers. It is pure projection you are clearly brainwashed and ignorant

Does a criminal conviction overturned by prosecutorial misconduct, really mean that the indicted had not committed a crime? It depends. It depends upon the exculpatory evidence that should have been presented at trial for the jury to decide its weight in determining the guilt or innocence of the accused. NOOOOOOOOOOOO way should Begich step down and let Stevens run for governor.

Oh the irony.

Palin has concluded that, because his conviction was overturned due to prosecutorial misconduct, Ted Stevens is innocent and should be allowed to reclaim his Senate seat.

During the 2008 Presidential campaign, Palin's favorite stump speech referred to Obama "palling around with terrorists", of course referring to Bill Ayers. Yet Ayers was never convicted due to......prosecutorial misconduct. So using her logic, Ayers was innocent and therefore she was unfairly calling him a terrorist.

What about it, Sarah? Can't have it both ways. Oops. I forgot. She's a Republican, so she CAN have it both ways. Hypocrisy is SOP for the GOP.

hello, wasn't the justice dept at that time all Bush appointees? 300 tea parties scheduled to protest NOT paying more in taxes - talk about drinking kool-aid (I actually appreciate the extra $20 a week I'm now getting back). Anyway, Gov Palin and Stevens are like two peas in a pod. I hope she does run in 2012, so we can all hear about the free house she had built by all the contractors who got that sweet sports center deal in Wasilla. The dems pulled alot of punched from Palin, saving them for later (2012).

I support Gov. Palin in calling for a new election for US Senate. We now know the actions taken against Sen. Stevens was a ploy by the kool-aid drinking Dems to add to their numbers last November. This is what we in Illinois call dirty politics. This is another reason why there are 300 Tea Parties scheduled around the nation. The grassroots are on the move! Go Sarah 2012!!

Let's suppose, for a moment, that it was Begich who had been charged with a crime, and that Stevens beat Begich in a very close election. And then let's suppose that after the election, the charges against Begich were dropped.

What would Palin's reaction have been if the Alaska Democratic Party suggested that Stevens resign and a special election held? My guess is that she (and all the rest of the Alaska GOP) would be laughing so hard she would be incapable of speech. And rightly so -- that scenario would be ludicrous.

The election was held in November and Stevens lost a tight race. Assuming the election itself was run fairly (and there's no evidence to suggest it wasn't), the results stand with no redos.

If Stevens believes somebody intentionally sabotaged his reputation to cost him the election, then he may sue. However, if he sues, the burden of proof will be upon him to show there was no basis for any charges to be brought against him in the first place. If he's unwilling or unable to do that, he should fade into the background and enjoy his retirement -- and thank his lucky stars that incompetence in the DOJ kept him out of jail.

And the Alaska GOP, including Palin, should just STFU.

Please explain. It was the Obama administration that exposed the Bush administrations prosecutorial misconduct. What is complicit here? I don't see it.

Lost in all of this is the fact that this was the Bush Justice Department that was guilty of prosecutorial misconduct. One even wonders if this wasn’t the plan all along but they got the timing messed up so it backfired. Stevens did take the money, after all. Why, with a strong case, did these Bush prosecutors resort to illegal tactics? This smells rotten to me.

Of course they threw the case. Intentionally.

That doesn't take any effort from the Obama administration. The charges would have been dismissed anyway. They knew exactly what they were doing.

DallasNE questions whether Stevens was intentionally malprosecuted, so he would eventually get this case dropped.

Two comments.

1) For this to work, it requires a complicit Obama administration.

2) If only former Alabama Democratic Governor Don Seigleman were as fortunate as Stevens.

These two components make this stink to high heaven.

Lost in all of this is the fact that this was the Bush Justice Department that was guilty of prosecutorial misconduct. One even wonders if this wasn't the plan all along but they got the timing messed up so it backfired. Stevens did take the money, after all. Why, with a strong case, did these Bush prosecutors resort to illegal tactics? This smells rotten to me.

Stevens should have a shot at his old seat, because we have a wimp for an attorney general?

Stevens wasn't exhonerated, he was just given a free get-out-of-jail card. Just because Holder wishes to mislead the voter of Alaskas, doesn't mean that the vote is invalid.

The voters of Alaska voted based on reality and the fact that Stevens actually did commit these crimes, and probably hundreds more that haven't been brought up on charges.

Just because we have an attorney general who thinks his role is to protect the Republicans that have ruined our economy and standing in the world via war crimes, doesn't mean they are not guilty. It means we still have severe problems with the Justice Department actually providing the American people justice.

Another moron heard from. I am begging you guys to put Bimbostien at the head of your party. America has had enough of electing the moron you want to have a beer with as President. So do the world a favor and make Caribou Barbie the face of your party along with Rushingdownthedrugaddictionmountain Limbaugh

Sarah, Did Bush step down for Al Gore?

Will Norm Coleman move on instead of having the courts over turn voters as Bush did?

And who is going to pay for that special election ?

Your State is in economic tough times and needs its money else where?

Stevens lost. Get over it. Best start concerning yourself with your own political career..........
