RNC members question the ‘logic’ of Steele’s Limbaugh gaffe: ‘So what is true? Are you really apologetic?’
In an interview with CNN’s Don Lemon last month, RNC Chairman Michael Steele explained his embarrassing spat with Rush Limbaugh by claiming that it was a “strategic” move so that he could “see what the landscape looks like.” The Washington Times reports today that members of the Republican National Committee — Oklahoma RNC member Carolyn McLarty and Texas RNC member Cathy Adams — don’t buy Steele’s explanation:
But Mrs. McLarty said, “I don’t really buy that. I think he just said things in his gut that didn’t come out right for conservatives.”
Some RNC members say they no longer know when Mr. Steele means what he says and when his words are meant to be strategically misleading.
“So what is true? Are you really apologetic? We need to know,” Mrs. Adams said.
It shouldn’t be surprising for Steele to hear that people are questioning the veracity of what he says. In February, he told Glenn Beck that he had “absolutely no reason, none, to trust our word or our actions at this point.”

The difference is the conservative pundits are questioning him on this.

In order to gain the political control they’ve enjoyed over the last ten years, Republican moderates and Reagan conservatives made a pact with the devil (faux Christians, bigots and misanthropes) to achieve the numbers they needed to defeat Democrats. They made a strategic decision to manipulate and exploit the ignorance, fears and hatreds of dysfunctional and vulnerable voters in order to win elections rather than lose them by being intellectually and morally honest.
Today, those who conspired with the devil are caught between wanting to disassociate themselves with and or casting out the devil they empowered and the karmic reality that they don’t have the numbers to hold on to or regain power without continuing to accept and “advocate” the immoral values, hypocrisies and corruptions that are dividing and destroying their party.
The survival of today’s shrinking Republican Party has become so dependent on extremism that they have no significant power left WITH or WITHOUT the support of America’s increasingly pernicious lunatic fringe.
The idiom “caught between the devil and the deep blue sea” is certainly appropriate as Republicans are facing the dilemma of choosing between two equally undesirable alternatives that both result in Republican impotence in mainstream American politics. They are suffering the consequences of their treachery.
Their irresponsible propping up of George W. Bush cost them their credibility, and their disgraceful and shameless licking of Rush Limbaugh’s storm trooper boots is costing them their viability.

I really don’t think the GOP-ers should be afraid of getting rid of him because it will look like racism. The bottom line is that he’s the wrong person for the job…period. Race if not a factor. I’m a 48 year old Canadian male but if I were to have my US citizenship I’d most definitely be a Republican and absolutely would be 110% behind President Obama. After eight horrific years of stupidity and downright illegal activity (um…torture, ignoring the Geneva convention, Cheney (the worst offender of all…), John Yoo, Armitage, and the rest of the nefarious cabal Barack Obama is like a light in the darkness; an oasis in the desert. Michael Steele should just simply step down. I mean, it’s going to take the GOP years and years to repair all the damage they’ve done and I certainly don’t want them to succeed in any way but they don’t have a “snowball’s chance” under Michael Steele. Or really anyone for that matter. Personally, I’m hoping for a Limbaugh/Palin ticket for 2012. Wouldn’t that be just marvellous?!?!
