Cheney to keep vice presidential records, will not allow them to go to Bush library ‘for now.’

The Dallas Morning News reports that “for now,” former Vice President Dick Cheney’s records will not be going to the George W. Bush presidential library at Southern Methodist University. Cheney’s team said the former VP needs them to write his memoirs. “It made more sense and was more convenient to keep them in D.C.,” said a Cheney spokesperson. The secrecy even appears to extend to Cheney’s artifacts and gifts:

cheneyweb9.jpgDuring talks last year, the National Archives suggested that Cheney’s artifacts — like a set of gold Murano glass candlesticks and bowls from Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi — be sent to the Bush library. That way they could be displayed with Bush’s items, including the 9 mm pistol that Saddam Hussein held when captured by American soldiers in Iraq.

The VP preferred to have the VP artifacts remain with the records,” said Sharon Fawcett, assistant archivist for presidential libraries.

As Vice President, Cheney ordered the Secret Service to destroy records of his visitor logs.

“Cheney’s team said the former VP needs them to write his memoirs.”

But do WE ‘need’ him to write his memoirs? I think not–it;s all going to be complete bullsh!t–just like Bush’s Lie-berry.

Ho humm, just another day in paradise.

  6. CageyCretin says:

Well, now, let’s be fair… he has to make CERTAIN that all that stuff is thouroughly ’scrubbed’ of any incriminating evidence…

  7. Danny Noonan says:

How about we cut out the middleman and send the records directly to DOJ.

Darth should be allowed to write his book. After all, there might be a toilet paper shortage in the future and it will come in handy.

Cheney wants to write his memoirs. With all the blood on his hands already, now the bastard wants to kill a few trees to write his lies. When will it ever end? Its sad that the old saying is true,”The Good Die Young and Pricks Live Forever”.

  14. PatrioticLiberalChristianMantisReligiosa says:

Why would he need any records to write his book? He’s just going to lie anyway. Perhaps, he wants to write the SAME lies? Oh, OK, I get it now.

    08Dariana Says:

Wait…. I find it very difficult to believe that Cheney will perform an act of self-sacrafice in his last hours and redeem himself witht he grandnesss of said act.

More likely he’ll go out cussing and spitting at anyone near him, like a rabid dog.

  17. misscoleopteramolly says:

“Needs them to write his memoirs” is merely shorthand for “need to shred, edit, and sanitize”. And this may take awhile.

We probably won’t get Cheney’s records anytime soon, and whenever we do get something, it will be meaningless.

    This is disgusting!!!

Lawdy, if THAT’S not an understatement!!!!!

Cheney’s records will look like my FBI file which I got threw the freedom of information act. Everything blacked out except words like, the, them, I, you ect, ect.

Prison memoirs are always popular, but I doubt the ICC will allow Dick to take “his” records with him to his cell.

Too bad our President and AG Holder don’t have the stones to investigate and put this criminal behind bars where he belongs.

    PEACE

  21. Davey says:

Well, after what he’s done, who can blame him for wanting to put off the shame and embarrassment? I mean OUR shame and embarrassment, since he’s incapable of those feelings.

  23. CageyCretin says:

To look at this from a slightly different angle…

soooo… Cheney now has a public REASON to be seen lurking about D.C., and, presumably, the Senate, Congress, the halls of the White House….

How convenient…. a cover for ubiquitous presence, and it has been made clear that there are D.C. politicians (espescially republicans — and particualarly aides and the like) who actually fear Cheney.

perhaps THAT is more to the point (because if they didn’t scrub all the incriminating data before leaving office, that would have been monumentally stupid — I don’t find it conceivable that they didn’t take care of all that while they still had complete control, and plenty of loyal staff to do so).

This is Cheney’s cover story for being all over D.C..

  24. 5th Estate says:

    Keith H.

Maybe now is not a good time to have the NSA operations exposed in detail…( se early in his term, so many other issues to deal with etc)

    BUT

“now is not the time” too often becomes “it’s too late now”.
I think we all have to keep informing the WHite House that a lot of us aren’t going to forget this–it’s incredibly important.

Letting this kind of thing slide is not acceptable (its that attitude that led to our rights being destroyed in the first place, and that gave Bush and his cronies more power to do more damage).

  25. CageyCretin says:

Cheney has the opportunity now to be a “lobbyist” (though not technically so), and I think it would be naiive to imagine that Cheney would be hanging arouond D.C. And NOT trying to influence politics for his own profit.

When the press or someone asks about his presence… he has a ready made excuse, and one that has been presented to the public.

This is not a matter of covering his fat @ss — he’s already taken care of that (paperwork wise, at least). This is an excuse to have access to sitting politicians.

  26. 5th Estate says:

Cagey #25..that’s a pretty smart take!

  27. spearNmagicHelmet says:

  28. CageyCretin says:

    5th Estate Says:

“now is not the time” too often becomes “it’s too late now”.

And when refering to criminal activity, isn’t that a very important distinction? “Now is not the time” dragged on too long becomes “Too late” because of those things called “statutes of limitation” I do believe. And certainly criminals want to see things ignored until said crimes can no longer be punished because too long went by.

And is it not a foundation of American justice that it is swift?

  29. CageyCretin says:

    5th Estate Says:
Cagey #25..that’s a pretty smart take!

Thank you, sir or madamme. From yourself I take that as quite a compliment.

I really think that that IS the purpose of this charade. Otherwise there may be too many questions about Cheney being too visible in D.C., and with this excuse it is likely that any media not strictly controlled by Murdoch will ignore him as well, since he is “just working on his memoirs.”

  30. moondancer says:

Work product anywhere, in any sector, belongs to the organization. He has no authority to hold them from public purview nor did he have the right to have the SS destroy those logs. His actions, along with most of his recent statements, are a gauntlet thrown daring prosecution. I actually think his intent is to have his case set in stone the unitary supreme power he gathered as ghost-emperor. He may feel the the SCOTUS is as favorable as one could ever get for the revolution he led while his pet monkey danced in the limelight.

  31. CageyCretin says:

I have another question… WHERE is all of this material? Does Cheney still have an office somewhere that they are allowing him to keep?

In other words, are we taxpayers funding a government office for the personal use of Dick Cheney, former VP, now private citizen?

    And, “WHY?”

  32. tombaker says:

Dick’s a sly operator, all right.

    And, a vain, shortsighted fool.

Once he’s passed on, and one can’t imagine that will be too terribly far into the future, all will come to light.

Were he not GUILTY, there’d be nothing to hide now.

Yep – You sure fooled everyone, Dick.

If Obama does not get any cooperation from the Republicans, see torture memo story above as example, he has no incentive to protect scum like Cheney from prosecution. Gee, I hate to disappoint ole bum head and possibly over rev his pacemaker (just kiddin’, I love it), but holding out “for now” won’t help. There is no statute of limitations on murder.

TO claim that ‘now is not the time’ to reveal some potential violation of law or conduct is pretty much the same as saying that which it is not timely to now reveal probably shouldn’t have been done in the first place, fir which reason alone it is not timely now, nest paw?

  45. Ape-Man says:

The game is over. Cheney is not in the loop any more. He must be ashamed of what’s in that vault. He must realise it would shame america, and he would go to jail if he revieled the truth now.
