In early 2005, Judd Legum founded ThinkProgress, serving as its chief editor for two years. In January 2007, he went on to serve as the research director for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. In the past year, Judd began private practice as an attorney in Annapolis and started a blog on Maryland politics. Now he’s setting his sights on his next challenge: Judd is launching a run for Maryland’s General Assembly. Greg Sargent believes that Judd is “the first national blogger to run for political office.” Judd asked us to share his thoughts with the readers of ThinkProgress:
I learned at ThinkProgress what can be accomplished if you combine serious policy ideas with engaging political communication. I want to take what I’ve learned and bring progressive values to the state capital in Maryland.
John Aravosis and DownWithTyranny note that Judd’s Republican opponent in the 30th district, incumbent Ron George, was a “co-sponsor of ‘Maryland’s Marriage Protection Act,’ a state constitutional amendment that’s widely viewed as Maryland’s version of Proposition 8.”
hey!
judd’s live at C&L now!

April 6th, 2009 at 2:48 pmMany thanks for Think Progress, Judd.
From the organization and its many excellent commenters I’ve learned a lot–about politics, economics, history, law–not just in general but salient specifics too.
And its kept my sanity and given me a lot of laughs, and a great deal comfort from the very informed and smart community that TP has developed.
You should be well equipped to deal with anything that gets thrown at you whilst campaigning, so I won’t wish you luck–you won’t need it.
BUT I do have a suggestion for you. Whilst you make your run, find the time read the comment threads as regularly, as you can.
Though most of us can’t vote for you, we are your ‘constituents’. You’ve got a built in source of ‘intelligence’ literally and figuratively in the TP threads. Use them to your advantage.
All the best!
April 6th, 2009 at 2:51 pmThanks everyone for the good wishes. It’s good to be back.

Good luck to Judd.
April 6th, 2009 at 2:55 pmIf I lived in Maryland I would definitly vote for Judd. Having said that is THIS a tax exempt organization? If it is this is dangerously close to the type of endorsement that would endanger tax exempt status.
April 6th, 2009 at 3:21 pmGood luck Judd!
April 6th, 2009 at 3:36 pmMore Progressives, more Progressives – Good Luck Judd!
