On his Fox News show today, Neil Cavuto joined the rest of Fox News in promoting the radical anti-Obama “tea party” protests, one of which he will be attending and broadcasting from next week. Arguing with radio show host Leslie Marshall, Cavuto claimed that the protests were “a popular wave” sweeping across the country. Watch it:
But Cavuto’s claim ignores a Fox News poll released last week, which found that only 36 percent of Americans said they would “be willing to join” a “tea party” protest.
Eating monkey brains is a popular wave amongst certain small circles.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:03 pmI have a poll right here that says most people think Neil Cavuto is dumber than a bag of hammers.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:03 pmAnd I’m willing to bet that the vast majority of people who want to do these “tea parties” have no idea why our own “home-grown terrorists” were dumping tea into Boston Harbor. I’ll bet they would be surprised to learn it was because the King had lowered the tax on tea. But then, context is something the right was never good at.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:04 pmSince it’s just an astroturfy political stunt, public support would be thin at best.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:06 pmTea Baggers = Useful idiots for their riech wing masters.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:06 pmOh so I suppose Starbuck’s is about to tap into the tea craze…
April 8th, 2009 at 7:07 pmCavuto is a total buffoon. He has never given any information that was correct, factual, forward-reaching, or researched. He has no idea what he is talking about. Everything he says is apparently invented. He’s absurd.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:16 pmFaux news is a fraud! Unbalanced and unfair; a lying, fraudulent, criminal organization.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:19 pmThe sore losers are having fits over being irrelevant.
Good, Fcuk the Republicans.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:24 pmTypical wingnut tactic of just stating your wishful thinking as if it were fact in the vain hope that through repitition alone you will make it true.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:25 pmLooks like a littering party to me. They should be fined.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:28 pmI’ve got a couple of suggestions for Cavuto regarding his personal use of tea bags but they are not for use in rationale company. Just suffice it to say he may not need corks for a while….
Cavuto has been so disgraced after being fired by the now disgraced, NeoNut bastion of CNBC. Even he can’t stand up to the pressure..the man is useless…
April 8th, 2009 at 7:29 pmI am pleased and it is appropriate that the “tea party” is happening. The right wing of this country has been quiet for so long, it is nice to know they still can speak. All I would like to know is “were have these patriots been for the last 8 years”? Obama has only been President for 2 months.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:30 pmBut Cavuto’s claim ignores a Fox News poll released last week, which found that only 36 percent of Americans said they would “be willing to join” a “tea party” protest.
28% are the “28%er dead enders” that still think Dubya was the Second Coming. The other 8% thought there’s be free food there…..
Cheers,
April 8th, 2009 at 7:30 pmCavuto’s such a lockstepping idiot.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:41 pmWith only a potential 28% listening and agreeing with these frauds, this is certain to fall flat on it’s face – just like everything wingnuttia does these days.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:42 pmyea ,no “pinkies up”, paper napkins and stale croissants..take that Dems
April 8th, 2009 at 7:48 pmBillO taught Neal about it backstage.
Now they get together Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, for some “teabag” action. They do it wearing red, white & blue ties, though, so nobody gets the wrong idea….
April 8th, 2009 at 7:49 pmFive morons and a bag of tea. doesn’t sound like much of a party. and what body of water are they planning to throw their tea into in landlocked atlanta?
April 8th, 2009 at 7:55 pmProving the irrelevance of Fox News once again!
April 8th, 2009 at 7:55 pmFox confuses people standing in the unemployment line as Tea Party attendees.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:55 pmI say let them think they are doing something. At least we know where all the FOX news followers are congregating.
I hate to say it, but I have to give Neil Ca-fool-to the rare benefit of the doubt. I read the polling piece linked on the story, and it was 36% support for attending a “tea party”. If 36% of the country bought a particular make and model of car, one could make the argument that it is a popular trend as well.
HOWEVER…
The polling piece didn’t say whether the democrats polled (377 of the 900) were conservative/moderate/liberal. They could have all been “blue dogs” for all Fox News cares. Also, a lot of the questions were loaded (#40 asked about taxes on the wealthy so they don’t get too rich), so I trust the document and polling practices less than the yammering anchors on the station.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:56 pmIf NASCAR is on at the same time I can GUARANTEE you most of these protests will be SOL on any significant numbers!
April 8th, 2009 at 7:58 pmIt’s taxes even when it’s not taxes. that’s why it’s boring.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:01 pmIt’s stuff that isn’t. Plus it’s as transparent as my little nephew.
So, the Republican’s don’t like Britain?
April 8th, 2009 at 8:03 pmThey are still fighting the civil war!

out of control spending resulting in the need for higher taxes to pay off that debt are good…as long as there’s a (r) next to your name. why are repukies such deadbeats and never want to pay their bills?
April 8th, 2009 at 8:07 pmMost conservatives and all conservative talking heads are dumb as common road gravel and do not have the good sense to get out of the rain. Someday soon, they will realize that they are insignificant and irrelevant and should take a seat and watch the grown ups run this country that they have screwed up for the past eight years.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:09 pmDidn’t the German Nazis hold rallies to get their members worked up? The Republican Party is displaying all the features of fascism and these “tea parties” are just another example of it.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:10 pmI think that should read, “36% of FAUX viewers”. And if FAUX viewers are representative of “Americans” as a whole? We’re in deeper trouble than I thought.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:13 pmWe devious Liberals should give Tea Parties, too, at the same time. Only We will have tea to drink, chai tea, jasmine, Earl Grey…even herbal tea! And cake! And scones with clotted cream! Marmalade! Cucumber sandwitches with no crusts. Fruit tarts.
Guess which Tea Party will have the highest attendance?
April 8th, 2009 at 8:13 pmNote to Reichwhiners:

April 8th, 2009 at 8:28 pmWillowOrchard,
Yours is an excellent idea. If they are going to hold hate rallies, we should mock them with a more dignified rally, and I can think of no better means than an actual tea party.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:29 pmPiss-warm Bud-Light is not tea.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:29 pm—
And Applebee’s is not cuisine…
The right-wingers have completely gone psycho.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:30 pmI agree with “YoungSloshee” above. 36%, with the presumption that the polling was balanced among philosophies, is a pretty large number for a protest. Progressives certainly would have been heralding news that 36% of a poll were protesting the Iraq War in 2005.
Now, take your jabs about my assumption that Fox runs fair polls. Still, this sniping at their use of the word ‘popular’ is not justified by the info in the rest of the article. The last thing I want to do is sound like I’m trolling on this, but TP.org is making a Fox-esque stance on Cavuto’s reporting by targeting a word and justifying it without facts.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:30 pmI wonder if the KKK is going to show up in full garb.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:33 pmIt’s just obscene to refer to hate meetings as popular. if they are not hate meeting we will know soon enough. The right wing has no benefit of doubt left to them.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:33 pmWe’re having a tea wave, a republiscum tea wave..
April 8th, 2009 at 8:36 pmPlease provide a link to a TP contributor who called “36%” a “popular wave”. They may have but, I don’t recall it.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:36 pmThat was supposed to be snark Pete:)
April 8th, 2009 at 8:39 pmI notice that FAUX didn’t include a number for those who, as I would, said a very bad word and hung up when they identified themselves as FAUX pollsters.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:47 pmAt least fox is reporting on an event that 36% of the population says they will support -
April 8th, 2009 at 8:49 pmI thought this site was for media justice – where’s the justice folks?
Let’s just see what solutions these meeting produce. If they are good solutions we will all be pleased and impressed. Good luck tea baggers. the ball is in your court.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:51 pmFox couldn’t run an unbias poll if they had to. Everything that comes out of Fox is propaganda, and must be assumed to be inaccurate. Fox has fudged every poll they have ever run, and its obvious if you take a look at Fox’s polling numbers compared to every other source in the presidential race. Fox has zero credibility, just like the Republican Party.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:52 pmAccording to FAUX polls Bible Spice is the President.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:55 pmSo the “tea parties” are such a grassroots uprising that they ahd a dozen people in Pennsylvania last time and 50 people in NY!
So popular that the only way they can get people to go is have Fox News, AM hate radio and Rush Limbaugh push it!
So this means that Fox News is NOT broadcasting news … They are trying to BECOME THE NEWS.
This is NOT a news corporation. This is a right wing propaganda machine.

April 8th, 2009 at 9:31 pmThis is too funny. First of all you pull a poll you have already used for another story and its a week old (by todays standards: worthless) and then you say they are ignoring their own data?
This data?
18. Are you more concerned the government will spend too little or will spend
too much to help the economy?
Too little Too much (Neither) (Don’t know)
31 Mar-1 Apr
Democrats 46% (too much)
Republicans 89% (too much)
I don’t need someone to translate that to know it a helluva lot of people.
What was this story about again?

Silly Faux Noise.
April 8th, 2009 at 9:51 pmMust be nice, crymeariver, to have succeeded in this Rip Van Winkle stunt of yours, waking up in 2009, and passing judgment on today’s state of affairs in a virtual vacuum.
The rest of us, who’ve been conscious during the last 2-3 decades, have the “unfair handicap” of having paid attention all that time. You’re right if you conclude that has skewed our persepctive on all the issues discussed here.

April 8th, 2009 at 10:01 pmCryme and Hippe,
If not for the twenty years of Reagan-Bush-Bush, then there would be no raising of taxes. It is because Obama inherited a debt of $11 Trillion and a yearly deficit of $1.3 Trillion that he will raise taxes (NOT on 95% of people) two years from now when the recession is over. What else is he supposed to do?

Keith you were doing so well but now you are back to completely changing the subject *sighs*

What is the post of reference, and where are the statistics?
It makes sense for the wealthy to be hit with the bulk share of the tax burden because their standard of living wouldn’t be affected.
Second, I know right-wingers are good at ignoring this little fact, but the tax burden for the rich had declined significantly over the last nearly 50 years. The upper-margin tax rate used to be 90%.
Third, why should what is supposed to be a representative government be in it to protect the unrealistic high-stakes game of hitting it big? Shouldn’t realistic agenda including investment in education, infrastructure & health care be the real focus so that a healthy populace and educated, expanded middle class can be created?
April 8th, 2009 at 10:58 pmAt the end of Carter, the first 200 years of the country had only given us a $0.9 Trillion debt. After 12 years of Reagan and GHWBush, it was $4.1 Trillion. Clinton improved it every single year until he reached a $250 billion yearly surplus. GWB doubled the debt of all the previous presidents in US history and left us with the worst economy since the Great Depression (caused by 12 years of Republican economics).
That is the reason we need a tax hike and a stimulus. A stimulus means spending. Sorry, but that is the way it is.

I agree. The Progressives and “real Americans” should gather and counter their hate and fear mongering with positive activities. Recently I participated in a peace march; when I was protesting the lead-up to the Iraq war and subsequent occupation, I attended an anti-war march. We know the difference and we should act on it. Let’s be the positive and let “them” be the negative.

Education – well, so far the government is doing a fantastic job with that – let’s throw some more money at it.
We’re just now throwing more money at it. The ability to fund schools regularly rests on localities who are cash-strapped, its tax base uncertain & unstable, & their constituents more sensitive to tax increases. I can see why –many states & localities have flatter tax rates that disproportionately hurt lower income & middle class people.
It may seem like I’m going off-tangents, but it raises a point. We are trending downward on education & public works functioning compared to other countries, and I blame that squarely on leaving educational prioritizing to the states, which fragments progress.
Infrastructure – great job as well on the rail system in this country – as well as public transit locally – let’s DEFINATELY throw some more money at that
Where are you taking this? We just took office. Your example of what doesn’t work, doesn’t work because republicans have been running & obstructing things for so long.
Social spending pays for itself — your party’s brand of spending does not.
and my favorite –
Wonderful sarcasm in the face of people losing their livelihoods and filing for bankruptcy. That says a lot.
Health Care -
Well gee, looks like folks are lined up to get Medicaid and Medicare – and we have lots of cash to back that system up – so YES INDEED – let’s throw some more money at that -
Well, I suppose this means that the republican endorsement of leaving it all in the private sector hasn’t been working so well, huh? Why, under eight years of republican hands-off policies that champion deregulated free-markets are people flocking to government programs.
If you haven’t noticed this about democrats, they are in favor of preventative spending, republicans are for reactionary spending, which tends to be far more expensive. And if they don’t like the cost (on domestic issues, expecially), they don’t propose to streamline or modernize the program, they propose eliminating it all together.
We actually agree on quite a few things, however, we are buying what they are selling – I know we have a middle ground and part of that includes holding our elected officials accountable – you believed that last year – and most of the players haven’t changed – the game looks a little different – but the players are the same -

and they need to be reminded that they work for us
It takes at least just as much time to fix the problems as it does to cause them. I trust this administration enough, with its overrall pragmatic leadership style, and won’t simply stand in the way for the sake of standing in the way. Right now, we the people don’t have time to go on two-faced screeds. We have to get to work. Progress is a marathon.
with that, I’ll say goodnight
Goodnight to you.

April 8th, 2009 at 11:36 pmBoy, read that poll. The Republicant’s have got to hate it. It sure doesn’t look good for them. April 8th, 2009 at 11:36 pm5th Estate, I remember that. I lived 12 years around London myself. Saw many plays and had many gallons of tea. Don’t know the slightest about Guys and Dolls or that song, so could not appreciate that.

Do you mean raise taxes for the rich? If you mean that, I agree 100%.

April 8th, 2009 at 11:57 pmok, I watched this interview… and let me just say, cavuto absolutely LOST it. he was doing the typical ‘blame the bailouts on Obama’ schtick, but as soon as Marshall pointed out that shrubby’s spending was absolutely out of control, cavuto started backpedaling and claiming that he was against bush’s obscene spending too, she basically started laughing at him and saying where were the teabaggers when bush was in charge, the neil started doing the typical fox ‘hostile interview’ telling her to be quiet and overtalking etc etc. it was glorious to another RW tool lose his shit when confronted with their own hypocrisy.
April 8th, 2009 at 11:58 pmGame of Life, I mean only raise taxes on the rich and large companies. Just do away with so many loopholes that allow 65% of companies to pay nothing and people like Ross Perot to pay 7% federal tax.

California schools are ranked 47th in spending per capita
Here is the link:

You are implying they are 47th in quality of education which is wrong. Give me a link to that. Also a link that says their spending has increased 300% when adjusted for inflation over the past 30 years. Because it was Prop 13 in 1978 that severly restricted their spending.

April 9th, 2009 at 12:36 am‘night Jane. SLeep well!
April 9th, 2009 at 12:37 amMany write-offs were eliminated with the tax cuts. Social Security taxes have gone up. Medicare taxes have gone up and are uncapped.
Taxation among the wealthiest these days, with deductions, averages 17%. That means the are the wealthiest are still able to deduct their way out of the top marginal tax brackets. Medicare taxes are 1.5% of income. That means the wealthiest pay the same 1.5% as lower income people do, so why should they be capped?
California has increased education spending by 300% after adjusting for inflation the last 30 years. California has gone from a state ranked in the top 10 for education 30 years ago to being ranked 47 last year.
Your argument is to merely pinpoint spending, but that is dishonest. California has the largest economy in the country and one of the largest in the world. When an economy of that size and scope delines, it packs an especially hard punch. A decline in government revenues is not the problem, it is a symptom.
So, please explain, if a healthy economy depends on spending, why should the government not spend to jolt the economy when citizens and business are increasingly unable to do the trick?
April 9th, 2009 at 12:41 amThanks so much, Jane. There’s a high bar set if you want to impress at TP — having your finest hour is not enough!

And they are 47th in spending per capita because of the horrendous Proposition 13 that was passed many years ago. Ever since then the educational system in California has been starved for money. Even after they started the lottery, saying that all the lottery money would go to education, nothing happened. They did give all the lottery money to education, and then the legislature deducted an equal amount from the state’s revenues going into education and used that money elsewhere.

Who would of thought a bunch of angry old folks wouldn’t protest sending their children & grandchildren to Iraq but, now…out of false FEAR…they’re throwing Tea Bags into the river and pretending they’re channeling the Founding Fathers.
But, hey…it’s like the old right wingers and young buck lunatics are trying to have their own little Woodstock generational moment.
I’m not sure how they reconcile the fact that NEO NAZI organizations are participating in their protests.

April 9th, 2009 at 3:31 amthen see the movie version of the musical with Frank Sinatra and of all people, Marlon Brando (singing!). It’s hella cool.
Tea has the magical property of being a stimulant and a tranquilizer at the same time.
Said the girl who drinks a couple of big pots of strong black tea (with milk) every day.
It’s my biggest vice!
April 9th, 2009 at 3:36 amI’m talking to myself now, nighty night y’all!
April 9th, 2009 at 3:37 amYou’re welcome!
April 9th, 2009 at 3:40 amIt’s a common, an dexasperating, delusion of the Right that they represent the majority. Since they are in fact a creepy minority, they have to use their money, and the incredibly overdeveloped herd instinct of the Right, to fake their populism…then pretend it’s the real deal.
Hate radio is fake populism. In truth, less than half of hate radio listeners identify themselves as conservatives.
The books written by right-wingers like Ann Coiulter are more fake populism. Right-wing groups purchase whole pallets of these books, to create the illusion Americans really want this sort of sewage.
George W. Bush’s theft of the 2004 election was explained in terms of fake populism, as mysterious fundamentalists came down from the hills to put The Worst President Ever™ over the top.
That’s quite a whopper. Yet the media sold it to us. Fake populism abounds in a decaying democracy.
The creepier they are, and the farther from the mainstream they are, the more right-wingers think they are the beating heart of the nation. Gun owners think everyone loves guns, despite evidence to the contrary.
The Moral Majority honest-to-God believed they were the moral majority.
Even the 9/11 conspiracy guys–who are basically right-wing–like to pretend that everyone agrees with them. I guess they can’t hear the laughter. Their “movement” is another example of fake right-wing populism.
I’ll bet if we went over to StormFront, we’d learn to our shock that they’re the real majority. Right-wingers seem to all share the same delusions–probably some genetic defect of white guys.

Cavuto is missing the story. There is nothing spontaneous about the tea baggers. They are a carefully orchestrated series of media events financed and organized by the money bags of wingnuttery. Dick Armey is the hired gun for these “usual suspect” unpatriotic elitists. The raw film shows these “events” are so lightly attended that only the desperate or those with an axe to grind would even note them. Capiche Neil?
April 9th, 2009 at 7:55 amthese idiots ignore the fact that the boston tea party was a reaction to the king LOWERING taxes, not a reaction to the king raising them
the king’s homeys couldn’t compete in the states with tariffs, the king, (EXACTLY like bush) removed tariffs for his homeys making it impossible for the demestic economy to survive
the colonies went balistic and a new nation was formed
as usual, the repukelicans revised events to suit their own agenda, an agenda that goes against everything this country was founded
April 9th, 2009 at 8:31 amWhy is anyone surprised? At Fox truth is based on how they imagine it rather than how they understand it.
April 9th, 2009 at 9:23 amSilly fascists and thier silly rally’s.
We the people need to recognize an internal threat when one exists.
April 9th, 2009 at 9:48 amIt’s official: the GOP is now the teabagger party!
April 9th, 2009 at 10:51 amJust in case someone decides to get slap happy with the libs:I will man up and be there to meet you. You will find me wearing a uniform and carrying a badge. Please carry your “commie be good” bat, because I will be happy to charge you with assault with a deadly weapon when you attack me or anyone else.

April 9th, 2009 at 11:58 amGiven that Fox news speaks for the alternate reality of their followers, the tea party protest are just spectacular…
