Motivated By O’Reilly, Palin Supporter Launches ‘Unofficial’ Legal Defense Fund

palin2web2.jpgA supporter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has set up a legal defense fund to help pay off $500,000 in legal fees she has accrued, mostly due to the so-called “Troopergate” scandal. The fund — first reported by The Sarah Palin Blog — is being run by Clayton Paslay who also heads “Free American Citizens,” a PAC dedicated to supporting the “Free Enterprise System.”

Paslay said he has never met Palin, but that he set up the fund because he wants her “to get a fair shake.” Paslay added that he was motivated by Fox News host Bill O’Reilly:

[O'Reilly] said someone needs to put together a fund,” Paslay recalled for the Huffington Post. “I already had [one] in progress, developers working with payment modules on another website. I asked how quickly we could get it up and, boom, we had it up the next day.”

Indeed, according to GoDaddy.com, Paslay created the website’s domain name on March 31 (in association with an entity called “Mini Ventures“), the same day O’Reilly suggested setting up a legal defense fund. “They’re just trying to get Sarah Palin,” O’Reilly complained.

A Palin spokesperson told The Sarah Palin Blog that the fund is legal but “it’s just not the official one” which “is soon to come.” The spokesperson added, “However, we appreciate any and all assistance! Thank you.”

Paslay coordinated the effort with Palin’s attorney, Thomas Van Flein. “The attorney for Sarah Palin is aware of it and we have correspondence going with him because the funds are going to go to him,” he said. However, Paslay fears Palin’s “enemies” will now come after him. “I told Sarah Palin’s attorney that I may need him too,” he said.

Paslay also wants Palin to run for president in 2012 because “we need someone to clean up Washington. Someone with grit like Governor Palin,” he said, adding that her maternal instinct qualifies her as a leader:

“A lot of people may not like the idea of a woman being a leader. But who is the best protector of the children? A woman on the playground will protect a child in harm and then they say they can’t be leaders? But they are the best protectors. [...] People don’t look at that, people don’t see it, but mothers are nurturers.”

Update Palin's "family spokesperson" has issued a statement saying "the official legal defense fund for Governor Sarah Palin has not been formed and the Governor cannot accept monies for those obligations from any other entity than the one in formation."

First of all, WTF? Yeah, nobody sterotypes women as nurturers, they’re too busy killing wolly mamouths and saber tooth tigers to help dad take care of the kids…

Second of all, One of Sarah’s kids had the choice of joining the military or going to prison, another one got knocked up by “Levi”. That’s not change we can believe in.

I like the idea of a woman leader just fine. What I don’t like is a woman who feels she has to exploit her children in order to become a leader.

I also don’t like the fact that she felt the need to exploit another woman’s child so that she could become a leader.

I have absolutely no respect for Sarash Palin.

Where’s the love my fellow snow flakes? Then again I have learned that the feeling I get from “hate” some how makes me feel better. Then when I get home and my government check has arrived and mom has a bowl of warm soup and a P&B sandwich ready for me I understand what it means to be a real American. After a couple of bong hits I watch re-runs of Obama campaign speeches and chill for the rest of the day. Life does not get better than this!

[…] People don’t look at that, people don’t see it, but mothers are nurturers.”

    O.k. Nice sexism there.

What does running a government have to do with maternal instinct? I want competent leadership, and that is not a gender specific quality. But I can take anyone to meet scores and scores of moms who are definetely NOT qualified to be in our government, much less the White House.

And by this reasoning and qualification, wouldn’t the “octo-mom” be a better choice? — she REALLY has some “maternal instinct”.

A leader is not a “protector”: that is not the primary function of the President, nor of other politicians.

And a mother is not “by nature” a nurturing person — look at crime reports and you can find more than a small number of mothers who no one in their right mind would refer to a “nurturing”. The assumption is sterotyping and sexist in the extreme.

I had a dog that was VERY protective of children. I wouldn’t vote for her for president: somehow I seem to believe that our government leaders need to have a bit more than “motherly nurturing”.

Isn’t the right always complaining about the government “taking care of the people”? Would not a very nurtuting mother, then, as a leader, seek to take care of the people a bit too much?

Talk about a recipe for overbearing socialism….

  46. spencers butterfly mom says:

People don’t look at that, people don’t see it, but mothers are nurturers.

Hmm. Nurturers. You mean like making sure that children, the poor, the disadvantaged, the elderly are taken care of with things like adequate food, shelter, access to healthcare, good quality education? Loving people regardless of their color, religion, sex, or sexual orientation? Wanting to clean up the environment for future generations? Because those don’t sound like mommy values as much as they sound like Democratic values.

Waging pre-emptive illegal wars that kill or maim millions, robbing the poor to reward the rich, disregard for human rights, lying, cheating, stealing, deciding that the homeless and unemployed are that way by choice, declaring that healthcare is a privilege not a right, teaching hatred and bigotry, and being content to destroy the world we live in if it makes money for someone, wanting the nation to fail in order to regain power? Not so nurturing. But very, very GNOP.

    PEACE

I went to this guy’s PAC web site. Not much on there, but, what there indicates a libertarian perhaps.

Per the web site, he has a big problem with being forced to wear a seat belt, not being allowed to hire illegal labor and, the most ironic of all of his beefs – they hate condoms being made available in schools.

When did sex education including values and abstinence get ripped from the hands of parents and get placed by the government into the public school system? Our property taxes pay for these schools but if we want to keep our children modest, sexually conservative and wholesomely educated, we have to educate them in our own homes or in private schools!

Since credit cards charge a fee for being used, if millions of people donate 1 penny to the fund, that penny will most likely go back to the credit card company leaving lots of paperwork for the fund to process. I hate to see trees wasted if anything has to be printed for this moronic site to keep records, but the idea intrigues me enough to post and see what others think and a way to do it that protects Mama Earth, does not give Palin anything, and just makes the site annoying to maintain.

You almost wonder if this line of thinking that a good mother would make a good President is a joke. It takes much more than good nurturing skills to run a country, especially in the economic times we face. We need someone intelligent enough to know and admit they don’t know everything and bring in those with expertise. Palin, typical republican, thinks she knows everything and needs no additional expertise. Hmm didn’t we just have that for 8 years, and how is that working?

  90. texaslady says:

Re: Palin’s ability why is her state still one of the highest Federal welfare receipient states ? With oil checks, people are still in poverty in Alaska. Good going Governor. Clean up your own state before applying to run the country.

  91. JohnnyRussia says:

Yes. June Cleaver had an incredible foreign policy acumen, as well.

I have just learned that we have had Sarah all wrong:

Sarah Palin is the MOST open minded person there has ever been.

So open minded, in fact, that her brains fell out.

Please contribute to the “Find Sarah Palin’s Lost Brains Fund”. Please send whatever you can for this worthy cause.

No marbles (they could be ANY republican’s).

Oh, that old ‘newspaper’ thing kids could sell? I didn’t know it was still around.

I can almost see Russia under that skirt!!!

  97. sscncturn64 says:

Sarah`s most likely upset with us libs. If she had her way then the oil company`s would be drilling the sht out of Alaska. Then she wouldn`t need a fund for her attorneys, she would be getting her kickbacks.

  98. Hoodathunktick says:

“Someone with grit like Governor Palin,”

So that’s why I want to cry any time I see or hear her.

Need more Visine. Or less Sarah.

  99. dbadass says:

Is she wearing a Swatch? Damn she needs to get past the Flashdance years…

  100. pete says:

Nobody needs to “get” Bible Spice. Every time she opens her mouth she does a bit more to prove her unsuitability for public office.

  101. bonat says:

Just another prime example of the far-right GOP virulent way of thinking. Palin really is the “bridge to nowhere.”

And she awarded TC PipeLines,LP based in Calgary the sole bidder to operate another pipeline. That’s why Bush went to Calgary? Another Dick Cheney ‘Halliburton’ move PROFITS FOR OIL=WAR & POVERTY.

Palin fits the “Bush Ignorant GOP” ‘profile’ for an inept states person, I can see why Paslay would make such a doltish statement about having Palin clean up Washington “code” signal for the GOP to lute the Treasury again and restore a plutocrat governing thus creating a whole new parvenu class of people, at the expense of America.

And the Republicans accomplish all of this by injecting fear, lies and hatred while claiming to be Christians? Please.

America will be doomed for good with this GOP way of governing, America would be one big prison.

Remember, it’s as easy to marry a rich woman as a poor woman.
    -William Makepeace Thackeray

  102. Zooey Lepidoptera says:

Palin just needs to let Paslay breastfeed for a while, and he’ll get over it.

  103. fire _ant_chavis says:

First I’d like to tell all the trolls to get back to their caves. You have no business being amongst intelligent, progressive people.

Now for my 2 cents: Palin has screwed herself. She allowed her ambition to become more important than her children and the citizens of Alaska that voted for her and trusted her to Govern the state. She’s a disgrace and a failure as a mom. A woman can be good at many things but if she fails at being a MOTHER nothing else matters – its all worthless. Palin has been exposed for the hypocrite, fake hockey mom, wanna be pitbull wearing lipstick dingbat that she is. Nuff Said.

    That’s my 2cents!

Hate for bimbostien? What a joke. She barely exists in my universe. SHE keeps putting herself in the limelight and we are commenting on her. She barely exists in my universe. She is an idiot and I dont think even the GOP is dumb enough to make her a powerful mover in their party.

Reading is only half of it and you are way too stupid for any comprehension. You only read what I write you have no insight into my motivation. You are too stupid for insight period. She is ON this site a lot because she keeps putting herself OUT there a lot and others in the GOP are dumb enough to keep her in the light. They are like you VERY stupid
