Former deputy press secretary Scott Stanzel has posted a new video of President Bush promoting his presidential library. In the five-minute video, there are a full 35 seconds of clips of 9/11 and Bush’s subsequent reaction. However, there is just one mention of Iraq in the entire piece. Additioanlly, Bush promises to use his library “policy center” to be “front and center” pushing for another attempt to privatize Social Security:
BUSH: At some point in time, the Congress is going to have to fix the Social Security system. I‘d like the center to be front and center in that debate and propose solutions. … Compassion ought to be the center of our domestic and foreign policy. … Some call it consequential, some call it controversial, either way it’ll be a well studied Presidency.
Watch it:
In January, Bush cited his failed attempt to privatize Social Security as one of his biggest domestic policy achievements. Rather than being a place for ’studying’ the Bush era, the library foundation has already been trying to spin Bush’s disastrous response to hurricane Katrina.
It should come as no surprise that Bush is seeking to use his library for purposes other than actually documenting his presidency. As Think Progress has reported, there are no mentions of Iraq in Bush’s official biography on the library website. Rather, like the actual Bush presidency, the Bush library appears to be aiming to highlight the attacks of 9/11 while ignoring the history and the failures of the Iraq war.
(ThinkProgress has been keeping a close eye on developments with the Bush library, and we will continue to do so. Read our related posts here.)
What else can be said? We may not outlive the shame Chimpy brought to our nation and I doubt he’s done yet.
April 10th, 2009 at 5:55 pmAdmittedly, there are parts of my life that I wish I could forget. But the honest answer is that they are still part of my life.
And to state the obvious, what would have happened to privatized Social Security in the last 2 years of the Bush Presi-DUNCE-ey ?
Does Bush think we should give the SS money to the kind folks at AIG who took the bailout money to throw themselves a party ?

9/11 HAPPENED ON BUSH’S WATCH!

April 10th, 2009 at 5:55 pmIt was you, Georgie, you were America’s greatest challenge at the start of the 21st Century.
America lost.

Comedy gold!
April 10th, 2009 at 6:03 pmHippie GoatBlower is a F@CKING D@UCHE BAG.
Could you imagine what would have happened had the WAR CRIMINAL Bush got away with his investing your Social Security in the Stock Market?
There would have been millions of elderly in streets for the next 20 years.
Bush helped 9/11 happen Hippie GoatBlower by ignoring all the warning he had about it.
If the repukes had not stolen the election and the ACTUAL president (Gore) was in office, none of this crap would have happened.
April 10th, 2009 at 6:04 pmYes, like Marilyn Chambers doing Shakespeare.

April 10th, 2009 at 6:07 pmDid I miss a TROLL?
April 10th, 2009 at 6:09 pmYawwwnnn…no surprises here. Let’s remember that for the entirety of the eight years that George W. Bush was in the White House, he and the majority of people in his administration consistently:
…lied to the American people…
…censored and/or withheld whenever possible any information which contradicted what they wanted the American people to believe…
…avoided taking responsibility for their own failures and shortcomings…
…cited 9/11 at every conceivable opportunity and used it as an excuse to do just about anything they damn well felt like.
And you think they’re going to start doing anything differently now??????
April 10th, 2009 at 6:09 pmThis is hi-larious…
Sure, Dubbie – you do that…
you highlight how YOU were in charge when THAT happened.
Brilliant!!! Did Mike Steele think of this?
April 10th, 2009 at 6:10 pmI can’t bring myself to watch it — does the video show dumbya witting in the classroom for seven minutes after getting word from Andy Card?
And how he lied about seeing it on TV, and commenting about a crazy pilot, when it had not been on TV yet?
April 10th, 2009 at 6:10 pm** SITTING (not witting) Sorry.
April 10th, 2009 at 6:11 pmHe’ll have library updates of his Torture Policy and how he had men/woman/children kidnapped transported to secret prisons and tortured, raped and even murdered. His War Crime trial will expose the 151,000 innocent people he killed while they slept in their beds. Yes he can take pride in causing Chaos around the World, and with the help of many friends and fellow crooks Bush brought to US to a Recession. He will have a place in History but not the one he wanted. President Andrew Jackson couldn’t read or write so his wife taught him, to bad Laura didn’t do the same for President Bush.
April 10th, 2009 at 6:12 pmMarie,
April 10th, 2009 at 6:14 pmNo, but it does show his address with the kids and teachers propped up in the background for better effect. It also shows the Pentagon and WTC second strike and collapse.
Why should anyone be surprised at this. He’s ignored the constitution, the advice of his Generals as to the size of the forces needed, the cries of millions of people in New Orleans, the requests from soldiers for better body armor and countless other cold hard facts.
He’s not the Decider, he’s the Ignorer
April 10th, 2009 at 6:14 pmMight be a safer bet to highlight all those vacation days.
April 10th, 2009 at 6:15 pmBush Releases New Promo Video For His Library, Highlighting 9/11 And Largely Ignoring Iraq
Presenting: Things that are a similes for bush ignoring Iraq:
Gorbachov: “What birthmark?”
Condoleeza: “I’d like those pumps in an ‘8′ and, do you all carry ‘plimsolls?’
Fox: Fair and Balanced.
April 10th, 2009 at 6:17 pmI watched the entire clip. It starts off with GW saying why hechose SMU.
Isn’t SMU the only College that would take him?
It goes downhill from there.
April 10th, 2009 at 6:17 pmBush has got nothing! Put the Criminal Bush in prison.
April 10th, 2009 at 6:18 pmSo Bush is actually proud at 9/11. Makes sense.
April 10th, 2009 at 6:18 pmYes, Bush has to promote himself, no matter what those little voices tell him in his stupid little head he knows he was a failure. He failed as a president,he failed as a governor,he failed as part owner of the Texas Rangers. What can he possibly highlight about 9/11, that he was warned that Binladen was going to strike on American soil.Bushes library should consist of a six by ten room with bars. Now president Obama has to spend at least the first two years of his term cleaning up Bushes mess. I apoligize if this is a little o/t but when i see a picture of that piece of sht i get embarrased for our country, and enraged.Thankyou for letting me vent.

April 10th, 2009 at 6:24 pmWhat a disaster on two feet Bush is! He needs to just give it up and be glad that he’s a free man. Dumbya Bush you can’t re-write history. Fool be glad that you’re not being prosecuted for allowing torture and starting the Iraq war!
OT but- Ed Shultz is going over “Psycho Talk” from the rightwingnutcrazies – I think he should add Bush’s video to his lineup!
April 10th, 2009 at 6:28 pmIronic that Bush cited a failure as his achievement. Sounds like his life story.
April 10th, 2009 at 6:32 pmSo creepy…I was just singing that this morning. Cheeeery Boooomb!!
April 10th, 2009 at 6:34 pmThis is how reichwingers are so successful, in their own minds: Rejecting objective reality, cherry picking their own facts, and voila!; they are a beloved freedom-exporting heroes, adored by fans world-wide.
When I was a kid, we used to call this kind of people lunatics, or asylum-bound maniacs. Now they get elected into office. How times changes…
April 10th, 2009 at 6:36 pmI could only get halfway through the video clip. I didn’t want to puke on my keyboard.
April 10th, 2009 at 6:37 pmHe was stupid 90 days ago and still just as stupid today. Yup, let’s let the American people invest in the stock market so their future will be safe and secure…right….
The ONLY thing this loon is good for is a prop in a brush picture…

April 10th, 2009 at 6:37 pmJournalist Philip Weiss on the Neoconservative agenda:
“In terms of their politics, they were almost all Democrats and then as soon as the Democratic party suggested that it wasn’t going to have a strong military, Norman Podhoretz and Irving Kristol, the grandfathers of this movement, they went Republican. Why? Because they said, back in the 70’s, a strong American military is needed to protect Israel.”

We’ve only just begun.
April 10th, 2009 at 7:31 pmG Dubya, the man, the myth, the legend in his own mind. The over all cost of his library should not be more than the current price of a 10 x 10 Tuff Shed from Home Depot, a plastic bookshelf from Walmart and a metal file box from Office Max to be located in New Orleans, LA.
April 10th, 2009 at 7:38 pmThanks, Max
April 10th, 2009 at 8:07 pmI’ve been eating chocolate bunnies and my stomach was upset — thanks to you I don’t have to watch it at all. :)
Everything wanted was a success under Bush’s watch, and I wanted none of it.
April 10th, 2009 at 9:03 pmI just reluctantly watched the promo video of Bush, why does he allways bring up 9/11 and show clips of the twin towers like its somthing he should be proud of. He was warned and he did nothing about it. I was fortunate enough to visit the twin towers, once i went to the top. The other two times were at ground zero, in 2002 i went to the first year anniversery. I went again in 2004. One thing i remember is being on the top and looking down it was incredible. Then i think of those poor people who went to work on 9/11 and had to jump to their deaths. I get angry when i think that there was a chance that Bush might have been able to prevent it.

April 10th, 2009 at 11:08 pmBush should not be promoting his library.
Bush should, for example, be prepared to be incarcerated in an insane asylum.

kkkarl is obviously still directing that one disaster after another failed bush legecy.
April 11th, 2009 at 9:20 amThe so called “subsequent reactions” to their many disasters is comical. All one can think is “My Pet goat” or hiding out on airforce 1 while watching victims drown.
ROFLMAO! He thinks world leaders are going to come to Texass to lecture and teach? Too frickin’ funny!
April 11th, 2009 at 9:46 amMaybe the Bush library will mention what his Katrina Lessons Learned report didn’t, Memorial Medical Center and its 34 patient deaths. 24 came from the LifeCare Unit, which occupied a floor in Memorial. Weeks before landfall, LifeCare was acquired by The Carlyle Group. George W. Bushs served on the board of Carlyle affiliate CaterAir in the 1990’s.
Ten deaths were from Tenet Health’s Memorial Medical Center. A year after Bush’s Whitewash report, Jeb Bush landed a high paying slot on the Tenet Board.
Will the Bush library note LifeCare’s defense in wrongful death lawsuits? Carlyle’s high priced attorneys blame the feds. They say patients became wards of the government as soon as FEMA evacuation teams set up in the New Orleans area. Horse hockey! If HCA could fly patients from their dead hospitals with medical evacuation helicopters, why couldn’t super skilled private equity operators?
The Bush library will mention none of this.
April 11th, 2009 at 10:09 amWell studied? It wasn’t the Bushies who did the studying. It was the rest of the world, once they wised up. The material that deserves to be in the Bush library has zero chance of getting there. Here’s another:
The man who headed George W. Bush’s transition team, Kenneth Duberstein, served on the board of Fannie Mae from 1998-2007. Besides his ample board compensation, Duberstein was paid over $1.8 million for regulatory advice.
While the red team screams over blue ties to Fannie and Freddie, they always omit Ken, prior Chief of Staff to Ronald Reagan.
April 11th, 2009 at 10:14 amHe’s trying to sell tickets on the Titanic after he steered into the iceberg an sank it. Only in the mind of a sociopath does abject failure flatter itself with delusions of success.
April 11th, 2009 at 10:55 amBush’s library might be interesting if he and Cheney hadn’t deleted millions of e-mails, shredded thousands of documents, and pretty much refused to release everything else to the public because of “national security” concerns.
Anyone who participates in this “policy center” will enjoy the same level of credibility as the person whose name appears on the door.
None at all.
April 11th, 2009 at 10:56 amIgnoring Iraq isn’t going to help his “legacy”. He told Charlie Gibson on T.V. six months before leaving office that he knew for 10 years that the country was going downhill. He did nothing about it for his 8 years in office. Yet he tried to rebuild another country, ignoring America. Two months before leaving office he was “still” telling us that the country was “fundamentally strong”. Give us a break! Either he was lying to us or he was drinking again!
April 11th, 2009 at 12:00 pmQuestion: Will Cheny’s gun that he used to shoot his friend be given a display case in the library?
April 11th, 2009 at 12:01 pmThe best part is around 3:08. He talks about getting “his friends” to come and lecture and talk with students about “what life was like before freedom and after freedom.”
Hey, Dubya — after freedom sucked. But we’re working on getting it back now, so things are getting better. Thanks for nothing.
