Bartlett: Bush not sitting around thinking, ‘Shoulda, woulda, coulda.’

ph2009041003167.jpg Today, the Washington Post has a front-page story about what President Bush has been up to since leaving office. His activities include working on his book, traveling once a week to “give a speech or raise money for his $300 million presidential center,” and donating canned goods to local Cub Scouts. One thing he’s not doing? Reflecting on what he could have done better during his two terms in office:

Bush feels content with his presidency, friends said. Now he will try to explain his two terms by writing a book and building a presidential center at Dallas’s Southern Methodist University so that history will have the means to judge him fairly.

“Over the course of being president for eight years, you become, in some respects, immune to all the noise out there,” said Dan Bartlett, who was a senior aide to Bush for more than a decade. “He’s secure in the place he’s in. He’s confident in the decisions he made. There’s none of that ‘Shoulda, woulda, coulda.’”

Next week, approximately 20 members of the old Bush gang are getting together for a reunion in Dallas, although Vice President Cheney is not expected to show up.

  3. Wayne Ant Schneider says:

Bartlett: Bush not sitting around thinking,…

Why start now with the thinking?

  4. tom says:

Of course, GDumbya isn’t sitting around thinking. He’s one neuron short of a synapse and drunk on his arse all the time anyway.

After all, we’re talking about a dolt who couldn’t “think” of one mistake he made as (p)resident. He and Ronnie RayGun are quite similar. In Ronnie’s case, his Alzheimer’s got him; in GDumbya’s case, it was alcoholism and an incurious nature.

    Anyone surprised?

I think Guido nailed it. The man’s a sociopath.

As long as things are seen his way… all others need not visit.

  7. Jane E. Schneider says:

Wouldn’t it be normal for someone who is supposedly working on his memoirs to be ‘thinking’ and ‘reflecting’ about what happened over the past eight years? Maybe he’s not ‘reflecting’ on them because his ‘memoirs’ aren’t going to ‘reflect’ any of the truth?

  10. Bobwurst says:

The title of bush’s book will be “The View from Up Here: One Man’s Up Close Observations of His Colon”

In all seriousness, I sometimes wonder if Bush will do anything now that he is no longer the President. In the near future, I find it hard to envision him doing anything else, other than throwing out first pitches for the Rangers and defending himself from the courts.

Philanthropically speaking, I was quite pleased to see Bush 41 and Clinton work together for humanitarian services, but I cannot picture Bush doing anything like that, period. If he does, his reputation will only scar the humanitarian efforts that he may enact.

I have always wondered about drunk’s…The few I have known seem to have the IQ equal to what they drink….Beer boozer’s seem to be around 13% or mental intellect set at 13, hard hitter’s can go up to 70 or 80…Wonder where bull shit bush’s spiky brain wave’s measure.?. .Then we must factor in the evil genetic predisposition of bush senior and mother bab’s..Yike’s!..Never allow our country to be run by drugged, drunk, insane mental defect’s again, voter’s..Please..P. 18. Jane E. Schneider says:

“Over the course of being president for eight years, you become, in some respects, immune to all the noise out there,” said Dan Bartlett

Well, he was already immune to reality in all respects.

  19. corsair says:

Part of being deeply religious involves denying reality. Bush is a master at denying reality. He’s responsible for the murder of 1 million Iraqis and he hasn’t the slightest bit of concern. That’s the definition of a sociopath.

  20. rastaman says:

of course not! sociopaths never embrace introspection. it’s part of their mental defective disease.

I would love for that to change.

  23. EnnuiDivine says:

Yet another instance where Jr. here has disgraced his father. W is out raising money for his library and donating canned goods. His father helped raise millions for the victims of the 2004 tsunami and Katrina. It’s not like we live in a world devoid of natural disasters.

One would think the fundraising ability of a former American president (…any former american president) would be better spent trying to aid the victims of the earthquake in Italy or even this week’s tornadoes in the south than re-writing history and donating canned goods.

  24. Wayne Ant Schneider says:

I’m waiting for Bush to deny he was ever president.

  25. KateWords says:

Now he will try to explain his two terms by writing a book and building a presidential center at Dallas’s Southern Methodist University so that history will have the means to judge him fairly…

Which is the priority always: to egomanically maintain a flattering self-image, no matter what spin, lies or (self) deception it takes to do so.

  26. barfly says:

Just mined the photocaptions, and struck gold:

They subscribe to the Dallas Morning News, which has written about their visit to local Pershing Elementary and the standing ovation they received after finishing dinner with friends at Fernando’s Mexican Cuisine.

Trolling the local learning institutions, because they can’t say no to a former president, and going to restaurants to get noticed. I’ll bet he even stiffed Fernando’s waitress on the tip: ["... but you have my signature on the receipt. You can sell that, for a lot of money, little Missy."]

  27. Zooey Lepidoptera says:

I’m sure he’s unable to make the mental leap to the fact that his canned goods are going to people he put out of work with his policies.

Zooey, that’s what I thought. Maybe he’s having Barney write it for him?

  34. Jackie says:

Good to hear War Criminal Bush is enjoying his life. His supporters wish he never left and some Americans wish he could continue this Policies until the end. I know the 151,000 Iraqis he had killed in their sleep wish him the best, the thousands of soldiers who died based his lies and then the millions of Americans who lost their homes, jobs and life savings all wish George W. Bush the best life has to offer. But for those Americans who didn’t drink the bull kool-aid they hope he wears a nice suit to his War Crime Trial.

  35. bonat says:

Just 20 people for a reunion of Bush’s “Lie’s & Thoughtless Governing.” Surely, I would have thought some “tea-beggers” would be at Bush’s reunion confab next week to raise $300 million for him, what happen? I just hope none of my tax dollars goes to fund any of this.

Beside Bush’s presidency is being “told” by Dick(Adolf)Cheney and the Lying Rove Report, Bush lacks the knowledge to write an honest book about himself, seriously.

Wonder how much SMU has/will profit from this?

trying to raise 300 hundred million and donating cans of corn to the boy scouts, Bush the humanitarian giving away pennies while getting millions, what a blight on the planet, hopefully fujimori’s conviction in Peru portends Mr. Deluded’s future, 25 to life sounds about right for Mr. I don’t reflect on my crimes

  41. flex says:

Ted Bundy doesn’t feel any remorse either.

    “[1]GEORGE BUSH IS MALIGNANT NARCISSIST
    by Paul Levy
Psychologically speaking, Mr. George W. Bush is what is called a
‘malignant narcissist.’ A narcissist is someone who has become
hypnotized and entranced by their own inflated self-image. They have
become so self-absorbed that not only are they not in genuine relation
with others, but they relate to others (including the environment) as
objects to satisfy their own need for self-aggrandizement. A
‘malignant’ narcissist, however, is a narcissist who reacts
sadistically to others who don’t support and enable their narcissism.
For example, instead of self-reflecting and taking in critical
feedback, the Bush administration reacts with ruthless contempt for
anyone who disagrees with them. Like a mean and cruel-spirited
malignant narcissist, Bush and Co. deny the accusation and try to
destroy the messenger. Ultimately, a malignant narcissist wants to
annihilate anyone who in any way threatens their illusory self-image
    and self-serving agenda.”

  44. delafield says:

    What was Bush thinking…

when the hijacked airplanes were crashing into the twin towers on 9/11?

when he lied to the world about WMDs in Iraq?

when he flew over New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina struck and over 1,000 people had died?

when on Thanksgiving Day he went to Iraq with a plastic turkey dinner in his hands and used our troops for a photo op?

  45. Badger says:

Let’s wait and see how Bush’s Reflecting Matures,

after a few more election cycles demonstrate

    what his Toxic Performance

has done to Republicans and the Conservative Movement.

  46. Joe Sixpack says:

Next week, approximately 20 members of the old Bush gang are getting together for a reunion in Dallas, although Vice President Cheney is not expected to show up.

Nor will Scott McClellan or Colin Powell. Karl Rove will be there hoping to find a new gig with the next Republican Presidential contender. Perhaps John Ashcroft will show. And Gonzo. Perhaps Harriet Miers even though she was forced to resign in Jan. 2007. Scooter Libby won’t be, as he’s still pissed on being overlooked for a pardon.

Gail Norton, the former Interior Secretary, will be too busy with her new “payoff position” as Law Advisor to the Royal Dutch Shell Oil Co.

Donald Rumsfelt won’t as he is STILL trying to get a book deal with a publisher. FEMA Director Michael “Heckofajob” Brown probably won’t be invited, nor will former CIA Director George “Slam Dunk” Tenet.

Even twenty (20) members of the “old Bush gang” might be pushing it.

  47. TeleMan says:

Isn’t lacking introspection a personality disorder? If you look inside yourself, you might have to (gasp) admit a mistake.

  49. bonat says:

….and what was bush thinking when he made this statement:

“They want the federal government controlling Social Security like it’s some kind of federal program.”
    - George W. Bush

And he still is trying to get SS privatize, no wonder just 20 people are expected to Bush’s confab.

  50. IgnoranceIsNotBliss says:

Well, he really should think about that whole wanting to privatize Social Security thing. I can offer two ways that would help fix Social Security:

    1) No more caps on income. If you make a million bucks, you pay SS on a million bucks.

    2) Actually fund the account with the money that is deduted from our pay checks and the amount that the employers have to match insted of putting those funds into a general account and using the money for things that it wasn’t intended to be used for.

    Maybe I’m over simplying things.

  51. Robt says:

” There’s none of that ‘Shoulda, woulda, coulda.”

Bush and Company has this mind set because there is no congressional hearing on presidential abuse.

If there were a independent prosecutor investigating their action. Or, if they were brought to the Hague.

There would be much Shoulda, woulda, coulda.

  52. Game of Life says:

    ————————————————
….and I’m sure more money would be moved off-shore albeit tax cuts so you the ‘rich’ would not have to pay taxes on that million bucks for SS while having the rest of America pay into the fund. Wall St. would be in charged of those SS funds and when the market goes into chaos again, America suffers another loss and the CEO’s would get billion dollar rewards for doing such a bad, great job? Yeah, right but no thanks.

I sure don’t want my SS funding some big CEO lifestyle while I suffer.

We have already traveled down this road somewhat before and look what happened?
