Palin trying to backtrack from her call for Begich to step down.

On April 2, the Alaska Republican Party sent out a press release saying that in light of the charges being dropped against Ted Stevens, “current Senator Mark Begich should resign his position to allow for a new, special election.” That same day, Gov. Sarah Palin (R) said, “I absolutely agree” when asked about the Alaska Republican Party’s request. However, yesterday in a press conference, Palin tried to backtrack:

“I didn’t call for Begich to step down, either,” Palin said. “I said I absolutely agree that Alaskans deserve a fair, untainted election for the United States senate seat. I’m not splitting hairs on how that happens. I’m saying wonderful, good. I want to see an election that is fair, that isn’t influenced unduly by some announcement that the sitting senator was facing a multi-felony count conviction. That’s what we were told. Now, come to find out, that wasn’t the case.”

However, if Palin supports a new special election, by state law, Begich “would have to step down.” That process would temporarily leave Alaska with just one active senator. Nevertheless, Palin yesterday insisted that she wasn’t “splitting hairs on how a new election should happen.”

When you shoot someone in the back, it’s doesn’t matter where you’re aiming, you’re still shooting them in the back.

Somantics, Sarah, no matter how you said it, it still means the same thing.

Considering the money that was spent dressing her up why is she always in that red blazer? And is he wearing that fellow from Iran’s jacket? And how come old SamJoe only got to wear T-shirts? So many questions…

That’s exactly what you’re doing, you brainless twit.

Hey Sarah, checked your daughter’s bedroom lately for any stray males setting up camp?

  5. Old Internet Hater Goat says:

dbadass, her red blazer reminds me a LOT of the Simpsons episode where Marge found a fancy dress in the bargain bin and was suddenly accepted by a higher social bracket. Enraptured by the sudden attention, she tried to use that dress as many ways as possible until she only had scraps left.

  6. dbadass says:

    Old Internet Hater Goat
I know that one and you are so on target. It also brings to mind the episode when Marge accidentally got breast enhancements.

  7. ralph the wonder locust says:

Well, everyone knows red is the ultimate “Look at me!” color.

    ’nuff said.

  8. DallasNE says:

Sen. Stevens was not exonerated from the corruption charges. The conviction was overturned due to prosecutorial misconduct. With some of evidence tainted, the charges were dropped. That is not the same thing as a jury finding Sen. Stevens not guilty. The stench of corruption still hangs over Sen. Stevens head.

  12. Marie says:

Palin won’t let the firestorm about her daughter and Levi die down:
I know the truth about my family. I know details about whether Levi Johnston was allowed to live with my teenage daughter or not. By the way, it would be over my dead body that a kid would live with my teenage daughter.

  13. ralph the wonder locust says:

Here’s a thought — perhaps if the Alaska GOP wants an election that’s not tainted by a sitting Senator who has just been convicted on several felony counts, they should stop doing bad stuff that leads to convictions when they’re in office.

    Just a thought.

  14. Marie says:

Stevens was not judged innocent – he was freed because of prosecutorial misconduct – so the charges are still valid.
For Palin to even consider a special election is beyond the pale – it would be a blatant abuse of power.

She is on shaky ground in her own state, would she take the chance to do this in hopes if ingratiating herself to the party?

  15. Marie says:

She and other repugs seem to forget that the DoJ that prosecuted Stevens was under the Bush Admin.
I am still suspicious of deliberate sabotage by the Bushies so that a turn of events such as this might set the guilty old man free.

  16. larkohio says:

Mark Begich is the elected senator from Alaska. No way should he step down. Mark, tell her to stuff it.

Ah the ship is no longer hijacked? Instead they are dealing with a hostage situation and they have invested massive resources. Do you follow the news?

  21. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

I think she needs a new nickname – Backtrack Sarah. She says something one day and then reverses herself the next day. Perhaps that is why we have seen so little of Palin in the last month or so. She mostly speaks through her surrogates these days, rather than speaking directly to the press.

  22. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

    Bobwurst Says:
Perhaps you should take this matter up with the administration that prosecuted yer buddy….

Or perhaps she should take it up with Stevens himself. After all, he was the one who insisted on a speedy trial. If he hadn’t, he would not have gone into the election as a convicted felon. He just would have been an indicted Senator.

  23. dbadass says:

I still wish to know what you are proud of.

  24. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

    Proud Says:
How about addressing the fact that Obama the clown is refusing to take action on the hijacked ship. His first chance to lead and he is failing, just as we expected he would.

And you know he is not taking action how? I am sure you would love to see the US play Rambo and go after the pirates with guns blazing. The only problem with that scenario is that it would get the hostage killed too.

  25. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

    Proud Says:
Don’t you read the news, a tug with an american crew was just hijacked, why don’t get your facts straight.

Wow, you must be living in a time warp. “Just hijacked”? This ship was hijacked four days ago and the ship is no longer in the hands of the pirates. They do have the captain being held hostage, though. There, brought you up to date. You must have had quite a meth hangover to have lost three days of your life.

  26. dbadass says:

Is it just me or is proud totally f ucked? I suspect a quiet departure only to revisit in the future…

  30. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

Since there is no thinkfast thread, I would like to address the pirate/hostage situation. What is it that people would like President Obama to say/do about it. I heard Ed Schultz say on his show yesterday that if it was him, he would tell the hijackers that either they release the captain now or they will all be killed. My question is, what would that accomplish? If they thought they were all going to die anyway, why not take the captain out with them.

Also, it appears proud was right, they did hijack a tug. Only it wasn’t an American tug, it was an Italian tug. So perhaps proud, you should get YOUR facts straight.

  31. dbadass says:

What was the tug towing or was it “tugging by pushing astern”.

She had to give the clothes back. That’s her real estate suit jacket. Would you like to rent out the second floor of Ted’s house? The floor that got added to his house at no cost to him?

And is he wearing that fellow from Iran’s jacket?
    Ah, the famous Almonddinnerjacket?

And how come old SamJoe only got to wear T-shirts? So many questions…
They spent $150,000 on clothes for Sarah, but probably only $150 on new t-shirts for SamJoe.

    How ya doin’ today, dbadass?

  43. Wayne Ant Schneider says:

His first chance to lead and he is failing, just as we expected he would.

Proud interjects himself into this thread by talking about pirates. I suppose this makes him TP’s “pirate”, considering he’s tried to hijack the thread.

Proud, if you’d like to talk about the Somalian pirates, then please feel free to find a website that talks about Obama’s performance with handling these pirates and provide your insight there.

If you have something on the situation with Palin, Begich, and Ted Stevens, please provide your two cents. Or are you going to make us walk the plank if we don’t talk about pirates?

Palin’s going to have to provide hard solid evidence, in my opinion, if she and the Alaskan Republicans see a connection between Stevens’ trial and the election of Begich. None of this “do-it-because-I-say-so” stuff.

  50. Theres'Ant says:

Well, Stevens pushed for his trial to happen before the election. Therefore, it was Stevens who unduly influenced the election by the announcement that he was convicted on multiple felonies.

    Marie Says:

I am still suspicious of deliberate sabotage by the Bushies so that a turn of events such as this might set the guilty old man free.

I wonder about that, too, Marie. That way, win or lose the election, they knew he wouldn’t go to jail despite being corrupt as hell (like Don Young). They obviously never suspected the judge might order an investigation, probably because getting caught and facing consequences never crossed their minds.

If Stevens doesn’t go to jail over this, I hope somebody does.

  52. Wiz says:

Would Ms Palin want the whole 2008 election done over too? It was unfair, after all she lost. What was that?.. Excuse me McCain lost. I stand corrected. Palin was the one in the fancy duds, that winced everytime she had to hug that old dude.

Once again, Palin has some of the worse logic skills I’ve ever seen combined with splitting hairs on words. While doing this in the foreground, her practices are ludicrous. Some people often talk about how the poor make bad choices, but Palin has them beat by far.

I was recently floored by the interviews with her ersatz son-in-law-not who said that he lived at the Palin home. Apparently, there is some word splitting on whether he lived there or stayed there.

Either way, what sort of idiot preaches abstinence to their kids and then has two kids live together ? And her daughter was taught about sex so well that she was happy with saying that they practiced safe-sex “sometimes”.
