Hmm, I feel I must admit a mistake. As it seems, in the 1868 case of Texas vs. White the United States Supreme Court ruled that secession was illegal. The only way a state could leave the union was "through revolution, or consent of the States".

So, where does this leave Texas? Well, let's look at it in both ways, either the guy is a)completely bananas as most of you suspect, or b)it's a scare tactic to try to get the government to reform.

a) The guy's two fries short of a happy meal. Ok, protest. Get him the heck outta office. If we wanna fix this country it would start by getting the idiots out of office. This isn't unique to Republicans. This "idiot phenomenon" isn't unique to Republicans. I know plenty of Democrats that don't deserve to set foot in any sort of office (sorry, Kerry, you switch sides more times per day then the average computer processor switch does in a minute, we don't need that)

b)slap his wrists. Scare tactics are cheap. He doesn't like the government, fine. Personally, I don't like Obama's spending policies either. I didn't like Bush's policies. It is the right of the people to petition the government, but what good is one voice against several million?

People can champion Obama all they want. While he might be brighter and more stable then Bush he hasn't really been effective in doing anything. The recession isn't getting better, we still have an annoying pirate problem apparently, there is still rampant corruption in all areas of the government and business. Obviously prison isn't phasing these guys one bit. I'd almost advocate bringing back the guillotine and hosting public executions of corrupt business men and law makers with mandatory attendance to drill a zero tolerance policy to this kind of crap. The slogan could be "Do your damn job correctly or your head'll be in this basket". Bush and his cronies wouldn't have lasted a week under that policy and the guys coming in to office would know not to screw around.

jerseyboyblue Says:

History repeats itself. Remember what happened the last time a state tried to secede, Governor.

Indeed. The Confederacy decided it would be fun to attack a union held fort and started a war. Sometimes people tend to forget the little details such as who started what war.

And anyways if Texas did leave the union, as is their right, and the US attacked then what do you suppose would happen? This would be the second time in recent years that the US blatantly attacked another country for no good reason. How long would it be before the UN declares the United States a global threat?

That crap could start another world war, and this time the oppressors would be us, not the Germans.

I was born and raised in Texas, although I've spent a lot of time in other states and countries in my life. I'm a registered independent voter, but I vote Democratic 90% of the time. I'm often called a socialist by my right-wing friends, although that's not true.
There are a lot of great people in Texas. Unfortunately, there is also a sizeable faction who like to speak first and think later. Or even worse, not think at all. These people are also very vocal.
By my best estimates, I think the Texas I.Q.(Idiot Quotient) is about 20-25% of the overall population. That leaves a lot of sensible, rational people. Rick Perry knows we can't secede, he's just grasping at straws. He recieved 39% of the popular vote last time. He's done.
I am an American first, and I'm embarassed by this idiot. Please don't judge us all by his irresponsible behavior. Peace.

I'm from Texas and many of us here think "Sarah" Perry is an idiot. His ideas are dumb and our family hates that he's giving Texas A & M such a bad name. Most alumni are not as ignorant. Trust me, Texans know he's nuts.

For every $1.00 Texans' pay in federal taxes $0.70 comes back in federal programs (comparrison to Massachusetts that for everyone $1.00 they pay they get $2.12 back).

The Houston metro area GDP is large enough to be ranked about 24th among countries in the world - meaning there are only 24 countries in the world that have economies larger than the Houston metro area. Add DFW, Austin, and San Antonio and Texas might just have an economy as large as to be in the top 10 countries in the world.

Have any of you read the Declaration of Independence?...The constitution?...The 10th Amendment for starters? That great document gives any state the right to leave the Union.
The 10th Amendment...The powers not delegated to the United States by the constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people. That is what this is about...no where in the Constitution does it grant Obama or any other presidents the powers to do what he is doing and what others have done over at least the past 80 years. We believe in the Constitution and that's why our State Constitution almost exact copy. Texas is the only state that entered the Union in a Treaty not an annexation. Texas was a free and Independent State when it enter the Union and that alone give Texas the right to leave anytime it wants to... and if you disagree then you don't believe in the Declaration of Independence because that's what our founding fathers did and that is what Texans are doing. Over thirty States have passed resolutions expressing the tyrannical behavior of this government...it no longer follows the constitution, or have you all forgotten We the people for the people by the people. By the powers granted in the Constitution the people have all the power and government are granted rights by the people not government gives you rights...We have the rights not them, the are our servants. Since the government chooses to follow the Constitution we no longer recognize them as a rightful government and we want out. And why do you all care if Texas leave...you dont like us so let us go and we will live peacefully and watch you destroy your own country by socializing it.

Badmoodman Says:

Gov. Rick Perry: Texas might have to secede.

- - Perry can forget a White House run in 2012. But he can always suceed Jefferson Davis as #2.

He would actualy be suceeding DR. Anson Jones as the fifth presedent of The Republic of Texas.

If you are going to shoot your mouth off about Texas, you should at least read our wiki page. you may not know our history, but you can damn sure bet we do!

and another thing! considering that a third of the country's gasoline and diesel fuel is made in Houston, you will cry to have us back when your paying 10 bucks a gallon at the pump and we have a surplus.

This could work but only if we SELL Texas to Mexico. We get rid of Bush, Perry, Bush, Rove, Bush, DeLay, Bush, Ross Perot, Bush, Phil Gramm, Bush -- to name only a few Texas radicals...and we make a few bucks on the side. We won't get much $$$ for it, what with all those thieves, liars, and radicals calling it home, but we'll get enough to finally put up a fence making sure those nuts can't sneak back in. I say, head 'em up, move 'em out.

Kennedy in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram pretty much said that Perry was full of it. He even contacted his high school and college history teachers and they said he was wrong that Texas could not secede.

What a Neanderthal!!

Oh and one more thing.
George Bush was ***NOT*** born in Texas. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut. The University of Texas declined his application, and he went up North to Yale.

HE IS NOT A TEXAN. IS NOT. He has some fascination with us and pretends to move brush whenever he can to prove it. He is now hiding in Dallas, hoping we won't know hes there but soon we will kick his ass out.

STOP FIGHTING FOR YOUR SIDE. DEMOCRAT/REPUBLICAN its always the same thing. Red is in power blue hates everything. Blue is in power red hates everything. I agree this is happening, but all the people protesting and believing in America don't care about each other political sides.

This is about the government. WHOEVER is in power. I was against Bush and now I'm against Obama. He's doing the same things Bush did... So wake up and look around. READ READ READ READ READ.

I hate to say this, being a Texan, but it is too bad Texas didn't pull out of the union before the year 2000. It would have saved the world a lot of trouble. Unless Bush thought Texas could invade Iraq on its own (absent the U.S. military and all that bombing power).

AND ALSO: I am not a republican or democrat. I hate both parties, and believe both generally want the same thing. The past four presidents have all pushed the same agendas, and it makes me feel that each successor is taught by the previous president before they come into office.

I also have never liked Rick Perry one bit. I'm from Dallas in case you couldn't figure it out. Oh we also have the best football team in the country... but that's nor here or there. I don't believe Rick Perry is a good governor, and believed that he was going to lead us down the same road as Obama, Bush, Clinton, and Bush 1.

This is the FIRST time I have liked one thing he said. He didn't come out and say we were going to secede either, he just gave something for Obama to think about.

Way to go Rick.

Oh man its hilarious reading some of these boneheaded statements calling Texans unpatriotic, treasonous, and what have you. You are complete fools. We believe in the constitution. Remember that piece of paper that started our country to greatness? Yea, the US government no longer gives a rats ass over that.
And guess what, we can legally leave the union. LEGALLY.
Before you say something idiotic, learn your history.

TEXAS was its own country (Republic of Texas). The USA begged us to join, yes begged, I'm sorry if that offends you but we have plenty of resources and land, which the USA wanted. Texas DID NOT want to be a part of the union. The USA begged and finally Texas did join, BUT AFTER we got a few clauses: The right to fly our flag as high as the USA flag (we are the only ones who can do that) and the right to secede the union, and continue being an independent REPUBLIC (we are also the only ones who can do that, and the only ones who apparently know and understand what a republic is).

So continue acting completely ignorant over these issues. You're just showing jealously, misjudgment, and idiocy, and it only makes me hope for secession even more.

Why would we want to stay apart of this over-sized encroaching government any longer? We have our own natural resources and our own power grid. We don't need the USA, they always needed us.

But... I do love the USA. What is happening right now is sad, I would rather things turn around and Texas stay in the Union. But with people like you in the general public and running our country, I don't think there is any hope for that.

Wake up, READ. Don't create you're world view off of anything you see on TV, it all has agendas, and all corrupted. Read a god damn book and learn, work your brain, and open your eyes.

So, have fun, while we accept the responsibility of creating the only legitimate republic and democracy in the world.

Mikala,

If you reread my statement you'll notice I'm talking about oil rigs located within the territorial boundaries of Texas, not those offshore rigs located in the Gulf of Mexico or inside other states. An independent Texas would have territorial waters and the right to those natural resources located therein.

As for those corporations leaving, that's a possibility but quite a few of those corporations are the sort that can't just pack up and move overnight such as shipping, petroleum extraction and refinement, manufacturing, etc.

Also, about the oil rigging, yeah there might be some stuff from the company thats within the US, thats not the issue, the issue is that, TEXAS itself, not combined with all the oil companies assests else where. Texas, itself produces half of the US oil that it needs daily.
