Santelli on tea bagger protests: ‘I’m pretty proud of this.’

In February, former derivatives trader and current CNBC host Rick Santelli famously called for a Chicago tea party to protest Obama’s housing plan. Now, Santelli’s rant has helped spawn disingenuous “grassroots” tea party protests across the country. This morning on CNBC, Santelli squawked about how proud he was of his followers:

SANTELLI: I’ll tell you what. I think that this tea party phenomenon is steeped in American culture and steeped in American notion to get involved with what’s going on with our government. I haven’t organized. I’m going to have to work to pay my taxes, so I’m not going to be able to get away today. But I have to tell you, I’m pretty proud of this.

“You’re like a cultural phenomenon at this point,” CNBC host Joe Kernen told Santelli. Watch it:

So…anyone seeing any huge teabagging demonstrations where they are? I’m in a Republican enclave and have seen nothing.

    – - How’s that for some prepackaged clever wordplay? You’re a peabrain, Rick.

I would have been VERY proud of these folks had they

    3) Kept the extremist fringe element home
    4) Known what they were really protesting

So the only people “protesting” against taxes today are people out of work who don’t pay taxes?? Run that by me again?

A cultural phenom? More like an indication of all that’s wrong with this culture…

    Right right right, Ricky…

Quite the ***cough*** “geuwine social phenomenon”…

ChicagoTeaParty.com, registered in August 2008 by Chicago radio producer Zack Christenson, was live within twelve hours.

    Huh… ChicagoTeaParty.com, registered in August 2008…???

Gee… a website named “ChicagoTeaParty.Com”, organized SIX MONTHS EARLIER.

ChicagoTeaParty.com was just one part of a larger network of Republican sleeper-cell-blogs set up over the course of the past few months, all of them tied to a shady rightwing advocacy group coincidentally named the “Sam Adams Alliance,” whose backers have until now been kept hidden from public. Cached google records that we discovered show that the Sam Adams Alliance took pains to scrub its deep links to the Koch family money as well as the fake-grassroots “tea party” protests going on today. All of these roads ultimately lead back to a more notorious rightwing advocacy group, FreedomWorks, a powerful PR organization headed by former Republican House Majority leader Dick Armey and funded by Koch money.

Yeh, those people the dupes are protesting for, the 1%, need tax breaks like I need a Limbaugh Oxycodone addiction

  15. RantingTommy says:

amazingly, none of these whiners that complain about a single mom trying to raise children in a slum and surviving on WIC and food stamps are willing to quit their jobs and do what she does

they make it sound so great, but there must be SOME incentive keeping them from joining the welfare rolls. if there is, then their whining about ‘no-one will work harder if they have to pay taxes on higher earning’ is completely false

  29. MCMetal says:

SANTELLI: I’ll tell you what. I think that this tea party phenomenon is steeped in American culture and steeped in American notion to get involved with what’s going on with our government.

Because there was an infitessimal number of people stuck in temporary comas in the US during the previous 8 years , Ricky ?

  30. Doodlebug Shayne says:

As a former derivatives traitor Santelli is one of the pigs that helped destroy the economy. He had his rant months ago and so you’d think he’d have been aware of these parties being organized. He’s such a hard worker compared to the people losing their homes but he couldn’t bother to do his taxes say last weekend so he could attend a protest.

    2. Do you make over 250,000. per year?
    3. Aren’t you actually getting a tax break from this administration?

I’m quite sure that hilarity will follow and will show this protest for what it really is. “We lost the election, we’re bitter as hell, and the GOP offers no alternatives”

Why are you libs getting so upset about the tea parties?

    Anything else you need clarified?

  44. kasinca says:

  50. Jane E. Schneider says:

deebaser, it seems that “fear” is the trolls’ talking point, Proud’s not the only deluded troll using it. How can the trolls not understand that we’re ridiculing the teabaggers for not having a clue what they’re protesting?

“Your Dear Leader Obama and the media have done everything they can to derail the protest, but have failed.”

Proud, can you give us one example where “the media” has attempted to derail the protest? Links? And enough with the stupid ‘teleprompter’ bullshyte, that’s so effing lame.

I WANT EVERY AMERICAN (WHO IS A LEGAL CITIZEN) TO COME TO A TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY PARTY IN THEIR AREA. THIS IS A FIGHT FOR OUR ECONOMIC REALITIES! THE CONGRESS AND THE WHITE HOUSE CONTINUE TO DESTROY OUR VALUES AND FAMILIES IN THE NAME OF GLOBAL CORPORATIONS LIKE VW, CISCO, MICROSOFT, SIEMENS, ETC.,WHO WANT TO OUTSOURCE OUR JOBS AND THEN TO INSOURCE THESE EUROPEAN AND ASIA CORPORATIONS TO GAIN THE BENEFITS OF OUR GRANDPARENT’S SACRIFICES.

THE TIME TO WAKE UP IS NOW! JOIN A TEA PARTY AND LET THESE LAWYERS AND LOBBYIST KNOW THAT WE WILL NOT TAKE IT ANY LONGER! IF IT MEANS PEACEFUL MILITIAS WILL BE FORMED TO COUNTER BALANCE THIS MARXIST ADMINISTRATION, THEN SO BE IT. HOWEVER, WE WILL FIGHT AND PROTECT OUR FAMILIES AND OUR VALUES.

Hey wingnut: The only imitation news is FAUX! The reason other networks seem liberal is that you get your propaganda from wingnuts like yourself! Get a clue. Nobody has tried to stop your temper tantrums Actually everyone is laughing our asses off at the childish antics. Do you realize you are carrying water for corporate sponsors thinking it is a grassroots uprising? The rich have you underlings all riled up to get you to do some work for them. Meanwhile you got a tax cut two weeks ago. Go play with your friends. I think it hilarious.

  74. ElBruce says:

    Proud Says:

Why are you libs getting so upset about the tea parties?

I don’t think “upset” is the operative word here, when we’re all giggling and pointing at the stupidity. It’s not like how y’all got over Cindy Sheehan.

    .

    Proud Says:

MSNBC does nightly infomercials for Bambi, and does the name Soros mean anything to you, he funds the left wing, so what is your point about Fox and the right in general.

I don’t know what you’re talking about with this “Bambi” thing.

Sure, both sides have some money guys behind them. Y’all only have one person you point to, though. The right has a lot more.

If MSNBC was talking about an upcoming rash of lefty protests, and TP was coordinating a series of events, that would be similar. However, they wouldn’t pretend they weren’t involved like all of these people are.

The interesting point here is how FOX Noise and all the organizing groups are trying to pretend they’re not actually involved in promoting and organizing the events that they’re promoting and organizing. Are y’all really proud of this, or are you trying to hedge your bets against the possibility that you’ll end up looking like idiots? Just take a stand here.

Santelli is a perfect example, at top. First he rants about something, his rants take off, then he tries to disassociate himself from it, then he says he’s “proud” of it, without actually even showing up at one.

    .

    Proud Says:

Schuster, Olbermann, Madcow all are using the phrase tea bagging real classy journalism from your side.

Except it’s the “tea party” people who started calling what they do “teabagging” first. Don’t blame your silliness on us.
