The Chicago Tribune reports today that Rep. Mark Kirk (R-IL) is considering running for Illinois governor, saying his interest is the result of “so much corruption in our state.” Responding to reports that Gov. Pat Quinn (D) will raise income taxes to patch a crippling budget deficit, Kirk suggested shooting Quinn:
“I think that the decision to raise taxes by 50 percent in Illinois is political suicide,” Kirk said of Quinn’s proposal to raise the tax rate to 4.5 percent from 3 percent, coupled with an increase in the personal deduction. “I think the people of Illinois are ready to shoot anyone who is going to raise taxes by that degree.”
Last June, Kirk mistakenly referred to then-Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) as “Osama,” saying that he supports a policy “where if we see Obama there’s a shoot-on-sight order.”
He should be investigated for inciting violence.
Reichwingers, I see your true colors…shining through…your true colors and that’s why I hate you.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:03 pmTalk about sowing the seeds of sedition.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:06 pmWhat is it with Rethugs and their thirst for violence?
April 16th, 2009 at 3:07 pmPlease, let him run!!!
April 16th, 2009 at 3:08 pmMark Kirk is mad because Quinn plans to raise his taxes, while actually cutting taxes for most of his constituents. If we started shooting all of the Republicans who lie, we would probably run out of bullets well before the job was done.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:08 pmHow many more threats to our Government are we willing to accept? This is really getting out of hand. I fully understand freedom of speech but this kind of threatening talk is way over the top.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:08 pmWell, there ya have it. This guy sounds like the epitome of the Republican party circa 2009. Yuk.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:09 pmSo much bluster, so little brains.
The future of the Republic party, the party of hate.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:09 pmAgain, the incitement to violence smacks of the sheer desperation of republicans and right wingers in the face of actual democracy. They’re used to having their way by just throwing their weight around and having subservient news media support their every whim. This is not just getting silly and dangerous, it is revealing how little they have between the ears. And like all stupid people they swear everyone else is stupid.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:10 pmWhat IS it with these guys? Does everything have to be solved by shooting or bombing?
But on a more practical note — if Kirk runs for governor, does he have to choose between that or running for re-election as Congressman? Or is the IL governor elected on odd years?
April 16th, 2009 at 3:10 pmThe gun nuts in illinois can take their guns and shuve them right up there asses while pulling the trigger. I dare any of those cowards to try and harm the governor.
and again, why isn’t the obama admin cracking down on these radicals? It’s in their best interest.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:11 pmIn reality, Pat Quinn has little chance of being elected. As a lifelong consumer advocate, he is widely detested by corporate fatcats. Therefore, it is almost impossible for him to compete in fundraising with corporate whores like Mark Kirk.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:11 pmHAHA I’m sure he would be more careful with his language if he knew what he was talking about.
“I think the people of Illinois are ready to shoot anyone who is going to raise taxes by that degree.”
Spend a day on the chicago south side between the 70th and 110th blocks, they are definitely ready to shoot people.
I’m willing to bet the school system could use our extra dollars.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:14 pmSurely, there are no skeletons in Rep. Kirk’s closet, and there’s never been the whiff of *ahem* corruption about him, right?
I concur that he’s sowing the seeds of sedition, but I do find this TP headline ever-so-slightly misleading. Has anyone else noticed a recent trend here toward tabloid style hyperbole in our headlines?
That said, I hope he runs…and gets trounced mercilessly.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:15 pmThe GOP is starting to resemble the “mirror universe” from Star Trek where one gets promoted by assassination of superior officers. I keep expecting to read that some unhinged GOoPer has killed someone over the last jelly doughnut.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:16 pmAll of these calls for killing government officials certainly is recalling the Rwanda calls to genocide made over the airwaves. These calls should be taken seriously and the people procecuted. Those making the calls aren’t going to appreciate the government any more if they aren’t prosecuted.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:17 pmSounds like he’s related to James Tiberius Kirk, and he’s surrounded by Klingons.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:18 pmProgressive Republican Says@ 11:
and again, why isn’t the obama admin cracking down on these radicals? It’s in their best interest.
And thereby proving their point? “See, he’s taking away our liberties? Waaaaaaaaaaa!!! Police State! Waaaaaaaaaaaah!”
It’s a fine line between freedom of speech and inciting to riot. Seems to be blurring more these days, thanks to Faux, et al.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:19 pmpete! Wow, I hadn’t read your post ~ dejavu all over again!
April 16th, 2009 at 3:19 pmHEY! This really feels good being a Maggot! I can feed off the rotting corpse of the Publican party for a long, long time…
April 16th, 2009 at 3:21 pmThis a$$hole is my rep. He has lying down to a science. You should see the lies he sends out in email and US mail. I have written his office numerous times telling him what a useless, lying sack o’ crap he is and specifically disproving his lies.
He licked Bush’s b@lls the whole time Bush was in office and we cannot lose this schmuck (Dan Seals has tried to unseat him twice) no matter what. Unreal. I live amongst turds (this district is GOP and the Dem in the next district isn’t much better; Melissa Bean can be a DINO). My district failed me…and all my neighbors.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:23 pmDo you suppose Mark Kirk should be investigated? I wonder if he is a member of the NRA? Is this what the NRA calls ’self defence’?
April 16th, 2009 at 3:23 pmKirk has shoot his mouth off yet again.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:23 pmAgreed, there have been some distant dots connected as of lated. Guess it’s something fun to get worked up about between real stories.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:23 pmwhoops, tp can we please get a speelchekker =D
April 16th, 2009 at 3:24 pmIt is clear that some of these crazy people will have to be arrested and imprisoned. They just do not understand their defeat and that the current dilemma is a result of their actions over the past eight years. The Bush tax cuts only postponed the reality of the economy. Bush cut dollars that were needed the past eight years by giving cuts to those who did not need it. Now the nation and states have suffered and will have to make up that terrible policy mistake. Get over it.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:25 pmYou know if it was anyone else making such a statement they would be charged and prosecuting for solicitation. I have thought about making similar statements on progressive blogs but those wingnut lurkers consistently look for such opportunities that I dare not.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:25 pmthis site needs an edit function to correct mistakes made when excitingly responding to some of the shit the wingnuts immerse themselves in.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:27 pmNo but I have noticed a recent trend here of concern trolls pretending to be progressives while trying to dismiss the articles as misleading.
Here.
As an example, let’s take a look at what the headline states, and what actually was stated.
The headline states:
And what Rep. Kirk actually said.
Since Pat Quinn was the one Rep Kirk was referring to there’s nothing “misleading” there whatsoever.
But your “concerns” are duly noted.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:29 pmWith all of the rightwingnutcrazies in the GOP, the last word Kirk should ever say is the word SHOOT! Good luck trying to get elected Dumb Kirk!
April 16th, 2009 at 3:31 pmWho would have known the GOP would react like violent, spoiled childrend after losing an election?
-GSD
April 16th, 2009 at 3:32 pmLook out when republicans go wild. They’re animals.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:32 pmLet’s speak plainly, shall we?
All of this Limbaugh / Hanni-TeaBag.biz / Beck / Kirk et al talk is intentional incitement to assassination.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:33 pmThe Sour Grapes Sore Losers are doing everything they can to get some of these Armed to the Teeth ReichWinger Nutballs to start an internal war by whipping them up into a frenzy.
That’s their plan, if you lose an election, get your side to kill the other side.
Fcuk the Republicans
April 16th, 2009 at 3:33 pmThe Speaker of the House, nancy pee, dismissed the marches yesterday as irrelvant. If these had been illegal alien marches like those held in LA, would she have asked “who sponsored your marches – LA RAAAZZA. What arrogance from this nut Peelosi. WE THE PEOPLE have spoken and we will not be silenced. All you liberal loons better get used to it.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:33 pmMs. Joanne, my sympathies. Please consider moving to the Bothell area north of Seattle. We like liberals around here.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:34 pmSuch talk of violence is really out of bounds for civilized discussion. Is this guy a kook or what?
April 16th, 2009 at 3:34 pmIt really is time to chargew people who make these sorts of statements. He’s promoting/suggesting/threatening killing people. This has to stop. I have never been so totally disgusted with Republicans, and that’s saying a lot.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:36 pmBaloney,
You are full of it. Go f yourself, punk!
April 16th, 2009 at 3:38 pmAnother one, sheesh. Kirk always struck me as a not too bad Republican as odd Illinois Republicans go. Lately, though, since the election, he has been letting his inner wingnut out for a stroll. Looks like he let it out full time now.
Perhaps Kirk should team up with Jim Oberweis.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:38 pmWE THE PEOPLE spoke last November. You’d better get used to it.

April 16th, 2009 at 3:43 pmI think I’m beginning to understand the ‘war’ in Kosovo a lot better now.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:43 pmYou are correct WAYNEBRO. Mark Kirk is not saying he personally would shoot Governor Quinn. He is saying that he thinks an unnamed bunch of Illinois residents should assasinate Governor Quinn.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:46 pmThis really doesn’t sound like a suggestion to shoot the govenor to me. It seems more like, ‘The guys working in the sun would kill for some cold water right now.’
Granted, there are some deranged people that think violence solves everything, but it seems this is just a bad choice of words and hype.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:47 pm“When Republicans Attack” THURS TBS 8:00
April 16th, 2009 at 3:52 pmI think it’s a little bit of a tenuous connection between the blog post headline and the content, but I’m more concerned with the allowed imagery that Kirk is getting away with. It hasn’t been too long since we saw Fox hyperbole about ‘terrorist fist bumps’ leveled at the Obamas. The right is always the first to call foul of progressives for any militant language, but it’s always okay for them to blatantly incite violent revolution to “take American back” or even secession, even while still trying to hold on to their patriotism b.s.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:52 pmCan you say right wing extremism? When the report came out regarding just where the extremism came from, who was surprised?
Like them or not, when was the last time anyone heard someone from the left call for an assassination? Every time I hear this kind of talk it is from a right wing talk show host, a right wing minister or a Republican.
Think back over all these years, and over the campaign? Where have you heard this kind of dialogue? They love death. From war, to the so called right to life that bomb clinics, to awaiting the rapture. These people are truly the culture of death.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:53 pmDoes anyone on the right feel all these statements about violence and guns is coincidental?
April 16th, 2009 at 3:54 pmYou should be ashamed, each and every one of you who support this particular nonsense.
There are 3 good police officers dead in Pittsburgh because of this bull$hit!!!
We Progressives have had enough!
Why haven’t you Moderates and Conservatives.
Inciting violence is NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!
WAYNEBRO Says @ 30:
I only mentioned that I found the headline – not the article – a bit misleading.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:54 pmUncle Ho Says:
What is it with Rethugs and their thirst for violence?
They are evil people. They are the party of moral evil. Greed, violence, cowardice and hatred are the planks of their political platform. That’s what.
.
misscoleopteramolly Says:
What IS it with these guys? Does everything have to be solved by shooting or bombing?
Only when they lose a free and fair election.

shoeless Chilopoda Says:
In reality, Pat Quinn has little chance of being elected. As a lifelong consumer advocate, he is widely detested by corporate fatcats. Therefore, it is almost impossible for him to compete in fundraising with corporate whores like Mark Kirk.
That’s what they said about Obama before the netroots kicked in…
.
kasinca Says:
It is clear that some of these crazy people will have to be arrested and imprisoned.
What’s sad is since we have to wait for them to take violent action before doing anything about it, some people are probably going to die. We’ll see what they have to say once the assassinations and bombings start.
.
Baloney Says:
The Speaker of the House, nancy pee, dismissed the marches yesterday as irrelvant. If these had been illegal alien marches like those held in LA, would she have asked “who sponsored your marches – LA RAAAZZA. What arrogance from this nut Peelosi.
There’s no problem whatsoever with political organizations promoting and organizing political protests. The problem that was under discussion was that the organizations behind the tea parties were pretending that they weren’t involved with them. That’s lying. Lying is bad.
.
Baloney Says:
WE THE PEOPLE have spoken and we will not be silenced. All you liberal loons better get used to it.

____________________________________________________________
Well, not even that. He’s saying they WOULD, not that they SHOULD. Sort of like the difference between predicting a President will fail and “wanting” him to fail.
However — that said — I think that violent imagery is a poor strategy on Kirk’s part. The Republicans already have an image of being gun-crazy anti-diplomacy warmongers who want nothing except to shoot, bomb, or blow stuff up. This is great red meat for the far-right likeminded base, but he’ll never win an election without the support of moderates.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:56 pmBy the way, residents of central and southern Illinois take their guns seriously.
April 16th, 2009 at 3:57 pmNorthbound on I-57, near Champaign, there are signs placed about 50 yards apart that read something like this (and I paraphrase):
Criminal and thugs
Would be on the run
If teachers were allowed
to carry a gun
curious Says:
Every time I hear this kind of talk it is from a right wing talk show host, a right wing minister or a Republican.
Ever visit their message boards? Every other comment is along the lines of “I live in his district and I have a gun…” or “I happen to own a bullet with his name carved in it…” Nothing but barely veiled threats against Dems, one after the other after the other. That’s just the kind of people they are, I guess.
April 16th, 2009 at 4:02 pmReist — I mean, Baloney, says: The Speaker of the House, nancy pee, dismissed the marches yesterday as irrelvant.
Whatsamatter, Reist — did ya get your butt kicked so hard yesterday that you had to change your handle?
Oh, and by the way, it wasn’t just Speaker Pelosi who dismissed these teabaggings yesterday as “irrelevant” — pretty much the entire country did that too. Given the piss-poor turnout at these Fox/Corporate Lobbyist events, even calling them “marches” is quite an overstatement; a better term might be “a gathering of the clueless who mingled about chanting talking points they didn’t understand, and who then left just as clueless as when they arrived.”
April 16th, 2009 at 4:04 pmIf I were to compare our neocons to a science fiction genre, I would pick the Borg.

What you may define as “arrogance” others may define as “bravery”. And what you may define as “intrusion” others may define as “distraction”.
Would you shoot someone in this day and age, just because of a policy?
WE THE PEOPLE have spoken and we will not be silenced. All you liberal loons better get used to it.
Speak as loud as you want to. There were almost 70 million people who were louder than you.
April 16th, 2009 at 4:09 pmshoeless Chilopoda Says:
“In reality, Pat Quinn has little chance of being elected. As a lifelong consumer advocate”
That, and the fact that Quinn wants to double the state income tax while giving himself a raise.
Quinn will not be re-elected, but it will not be because of Kirk (who won’t get the nod anyway — ILGOP prefers truly insane right wingers, instead of just moderately insane). Quinn will lose in the primary to either Madigan or, if she does not run, Hynes.
April 16th, 2009 at 4:11 pmBaloney Says:
You teabaggers don’t represent “We The People.”
April 16th, 2009 at 4:13 pm“We The People” voted for President Obama.
You all looked like complete and utter tools – used by corporate lobbyists to do their bidding. Too STUPID to wake up and face reality. These lobbyists don’t have your back. YOU’VE BEEN DUPED. YOU’VE BEEN HAD! YOU LOOK RIDICULOUS WITH THOSE TEABAGS IN YA MOUTH!
WE THE PEOPLE have spoken..
This is a joke right? Didn’t we the people speak loudly and clearly last November?
Unless by we the people, this dumbfck means him and the other three foaming freaks carrying signs yesterday.
Eat shit and die punk.
April 16th, 2009 at 4:14 pmRachael Maddow may have made the best point when she noted the irony that these tea parties were held in parks which are payed for with taxes.

April 16th, 2009 at 4:21 pmViolence is always the repugs first choice.
April 16th, 2009 at 4:32 pmThey love that shock and awe.
Ralph:
what else they got besides violence and jingoism?
Cable TV, which validates their violent outlook, with dramas that always end in tradgedy, or with unresolved storylines that allow them to fantasize how they would handle the situation (usually with a large-bore weapon).
April 16th, 2009 at 4:37 pmBaloney…your name is the only thing you got right with your post.
April 16th, 2009 at 4:44 pmThis bunch of wingnuts who stalk me actually reported me to the DHS because I said that George Bush ought to be tried for war crimes and executed.
*eyeroll*
Jebus – at least I said that he ought to have a trial first!!
These people are batsh*t fleeping insane homicidal maniacs.
April 16th, 2009 at 4:44 pmKirk is a very good example of the Cro Magnon’s in the American Taliban. They don’t know how to express themselves in English, so instead flash either pictures of a gun or just say, “Kill!”, against anyone who doesn’t agree with them. See?
April 16th, 2009 at 4:46 pmIf I were to compare them to a science fiction writer, I would choose L. Ron Hubbard…they’re all just nutty, tax-paying citizens in the land of denial.
April 16th, 2009 at 4:46 pmI appreciate the courtesy of our friend Baloney in properly labeling his posts with his screen name so we can know to ignore them.
April 16th, 2009 at 4:51 pmAre you Mark Kirk, because you are telling an even bigger lie. Quinn is not doubling the state income you nimrod. He is raising the rate by 50% and increasing the deduction so THE AVERAGE PERSON WILL PAY LESS STATE INCOME TAXES.
Why is it so difficult for youdumbasses to understand that the middle class pays less tax under a progressive tax code.
What a fool.
April 16th, 2009 at 4:58 pmGuess he doesn’t have much faith in elections.
April 16th, 2009 at 5:18 pmThe right doesn’t seem to have any problem asking for unfinanced taxcuts despite growing debt, but if you actually say that we need to raise taxes to finance some of the costs like the wars then many of them are pretty much ready to take part in a revolution.
April 16th, 2009 at 5:48 pmWhat a world.
The FBI needs to knock on some doors and throw these people in jail. Enough is enough. The terrorists are homegrown americans.
April 16th, 2009 at 6:17 pmWow the right is continuing its political suicide, they are getting nuttier by the minute. Just this week, they have had convultions over the teabagging which wasn’t exactly a success, they had fits over the pirate thing, Texas leaving the United States, and now threatening to shoot people. They also freaked out over the report about right wing extremists, conflating that with conservatives, leading one to believe they are one and the same. With their behavior, I am starting to believe that there is no difference between right wing extremist and conservative.
April 16th, 2009 at 6:24 pmWhy can’t these people be arrested for threatening a public official?
April 16th, 2009 at 7:19 pmFighter Jock Kirk the Jerk, shooting his mouth off in the GOP lynch mob tea party. And he’s got designs on higher office. Scary.

April 16th, 2009 at 9:35 pmIsn’t it a Federal offense to threaten to shoot a Presidential candidate?
April 16th, 2009 at 11:04 pmWhere are all the sane, moderate Republicans to condemn things like this? Are there any moderate Republicans left in leadership positions, or has Limbaugh neutered them all?
One side of me says this loony rhetoric will guarantee the Republicans remain a regional party, but the other side of me asks, “At what cost?”
Republicans are taking this down a very bad path, and I’m starting to fear for my country.
April 16th, 2009 at 11:17 pmTwo points:
one, you don’t know what a “Marxist” is, let alone a “neo-Marxist?.
and two… what happens? You get right-wing legislators suggesting that tax increases could get elected officials shot?
Tell the truth, 10hourday… your heart ain’t in this trolling, is it? You’re just in it for the 10 cents a post and the bottomless Cheeto bowl in the break room, right?

You really don’t know what you are talking about. Moreover, adding that sort of language serves to show your lack of confidence in your statements. People who know what they are talking about don’t have to fall on that sort of language.
The Ilinois tax structure is not progressive. The income tax has a flat rate and when you factor in the high sales tax, the overall impact is regressive.
Gov. Quinn has refused to support the idea of a tax swap (raise income tax and reduce sales/property tax) so he has refused to make the Illinois tax system more progressive.
Further, Quinn has supported giving himself a nice raise.
I looked up the impact of his tax plan and the result will e that my family will may a significant amount more and taxes.
Quinn gets a raise, and I pay more in taxes.
Quinn is toast. Lisa Madigan will beat him soundly. If she decides against a run, Hynes will beat him soundly. If both of them decide against a run, then another Illinois Democrat will beat him.
Unless you are a member of his family or staff, I would start taking action to unhitch yourself from his bandwagon since there is no way that he will win a primary.

I hate to be the one to tell them that God is not only a woman, shes mixed race as well. By the way Baloney, when you are protesting for non-issues, I will be one of those who gives you the finger.
