Do you realize that if America had a similar law, we could have prevented women from ever being able to vote in America?

One contributing factor to women gaining the right to vote in America was a medical condition called testicular cyanopathy.

I doubt one rape will be prevented by this law change. Sad, but true. Gender violence only seems to have gotten far worse since we’ve been there.

“Now I have instructed, in consultation with clergy of the country, that the law be revised and any article that is not in keeping with the Afghan constitution and Islamic Sharia must be removed from this law,” Karzai said.

The wording is vague. It seems to leave the option that as long as the marital rape is ‘in keeping with the Afghan constitution and Islamic Sharia’ it could remain law.

Hmmm… the government does something viewed as obscene by the population, and the people take to the streets in protest. And the government changes it’s position.

Immunity for torturers and the people who authorized it and provided legal cover for it? Time to take to the streets here.
