On his radio show yesterday, Rush Limbaugh responded to the Obama administration’s release of four of the OLC torture memos with a full-throated defense of of torture and its effectiveness for gathering useful intelligence. As evidence of the effectiveness of torture, Limbaugh noted that — in his speech to the Republican National Convention last summer — Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said the North Vietnamese “broke” him while he was a POW. Limbaugh suggested that in saying the North Vietnamese “broke” him, McCain was saying that torture worked:
LIMBAUGH: The idea that torture doesn’t work– that’s been put out from John McCain on down– You know, for the longest time McCain said torture doesn’t work then he admitted in his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention last summer that he was broken by North Vietnamese. So what are we to think here?
Watch it:
This is not the first time Limbaugh has claimed that McCain’s remarks about his experience with torture proves its effectiveness. But just like the last time, Limbaugh is wrong.
With regard to his speech to the RNC, McCain explained that after refusing an offer of early release, North Vietnamese soldiers “worked me over harder than they ever had before. For a long time. And they broke me.” While McCain did not go in to detail during his speech, he explained in his memoir Faith of my Fathers that the information he gave the Vietnamese after being “broken” was out of date, fabricated, or of little use to his captors:
Eventually, I gave them my ship’s name and squadron number, and confirmed that my target had been the power plant. Pressed for more useful information, I gave the names of the Green Bay Packers’ offensive line, and said they were members of my squadron. When asked to identify future targets, I simply recited the names of a number of North Vietnamese cities that had already been bombed.
Elsewhere in his memoir, McCain recalled providing false information to his captors on multiple occasions in order to “suspend the abuse.” Further, McCain explained in a 2005 Newsweek column that he believed torture would yield little actionable intelligence. “In my experience, abuse of prisoners often produces bad intelligence because under torture a person will say anything he thinks his captors want to hear — whether it is true or false — if he believes it will relieve his suffering,” McCain wrote.
McCain was right. As the Washington Post reported last month, the torture of Abu Zubaydah — who was once thought to be a high-level AQI operative — did not foil “a single significant plot” and provided the CIA with a number of “false leads.” “We spent millions of dollars chasing false alarms,” one former intelligence official told the Post. Further, “most of the useful information from Abu Zubaydah — chiefly names of al-Qaeda members and associates — was obtained before waterboarding was introduced.”
Oh. My. God.
April 18th, 2009 at 1:32 pmHey, Rush, if you need help with that slapping thing give me a call.
April 18th, 2009 at 1:33 pmSo John McCain gave up valuable information to the enemy?
Thank God we didn’t elect him to the presidency!
(BTW, is Limbaugh stupid, or does he just assume his listeners are stupid? It’s gotta be one or the other. Or maybe both.)
April 18th, 2009 at 1:34 pmWhile McCain did not go in to detail during his speech, he explained in his memoir Faith of my Fathers that the information he gave the Vietnamese after being “broken” was out of date, fabricated, or of little use to his captors:
Of course, when campaigning in Pittsburgh, McCain said that he had given up the names of the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line, but you get the picture…
April 18th, 2009 at 1:36 pmLintball has nothing new in his repertoire – SSDD.
April 18th, 2009 at 1:36 pmThe fringe believe he is their god – they are beyond redemption – soon, the rest of the nation will leave him and his lunatic fans by the wayside.
Look, Rush, you got two possibilities here, and one of them has got to be true:
either torture doesn’t work in obtaining useful information
or
the Republican Party nominated a traitor for president in 2008.
Take your pick.
April 18th, 2009 at 1:38 pmRalph, McCain did confuse the stories about what he told his captives in VN – nonetheless, I wonder how he feels about Rush today after learning of this?
April 18th, 2009 at 1:39 pmAny chance that Senator McCain will call Mr. Limbaugh up on his program and correct the record?
April 18th, 2009 at 1:41 pmI eagerly await the appearance of b-cup to explain what Limbaugh actually meant. This should not be construed as b-cup defending Limbaugh. He will merely be setting the record straight.
April 18th, 2009 at 1:45 pmLIMBAUGH: The idea that torture doesn’t work– that’s been put out from John McCain on down– You know, for the longest time McCain said torture doesn’t work then he admitted in his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention last summer that he was broken by North Vietnamese. So what are we to think here?
That’s a very good question, Mr. Limbaugh. Exactly what are we to think here? If the entire purpose of torture is just to “break” someone, then I guess torture can be said to work. But if the purpose of torturing is to get useful intelligence information, then there is no question that McCain proved that it doesn’t work.
So tell us, Mr. Limbaugh. Is the purpose of using torture just to break someone, or is the purpose to get useful intelligence? Your answer to that question will say a lot about you (and the people who think you are right.)
April 18th, 2009 at 1:45 pmLimbaugh never served in the US Military because he’s a coward so it makes sence he wouldn’t understand torture or even being a man. Now Rush is a drugs/child attacker he doesn’t do well with anything else. When the terrorist decide to kidnap someone they might take Rush and show him exactly what it’s like to be tortured and add waterboarding too. Talk about limp balls!
April 18th, 2009 at 1:51 pmRush should just keep smacking himself until he finds an answer. Wonder what his Limbots will say now?
April 18th, 2009 at 1:53 pmLimbaugh if you will give me a chance, I will slap the neo-con out of you and you will become a liberal,
April 18th, 2009 at 1:53 pmHey, Rush – I’ll gladly waterboard you. Give me a call and we’ll set something up.
April 18th, 2009 at 1:54 pmRush banks on his listeners’ stupidity, Ralph.
Were they not stupid, he might have to work for a living.
Lucky, lucky Rush.
April 18th, 2009 at 1:57 pm“I just slapped myself. I’m torturing myself right now. That’s torture according to these people,” Limbaugh said.
Well, you would probably feel it if you hadnt taken 20 oxycodone pain pills
April 18th, 2009 at 1:58 pm“I just slapped myself. I’m torturing myself right now. That’s torture according to these people,” Limbaugh said.
That just proves torture doesnt work because your still not telling the truth. Please have someone waterboard you.
April 18th, 2009 at 1:59 pmSlapping himself on the radio, indeed! Just another manifestation of Limpballs’ foolish, childish tantrums. He has two groups that listen to his daily rant-fest — (1) true believers who hang on every word he says and (2) those who find amusement in his adolescent BS and delight in hearing him crash and burn on a daily basis. I suspect that latter group is pretty large and getting bigger now as he is reaching the point of spectacular implosion any day now.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:05 pmRush you fat bastard, someone needs to torture you and lets see if you like it. It’s always retards like you that shot off the fat mouth and haven’t ever served a second in the military. We put out soldiers at risk every time you and the other stupid idiots try to justify torture. Think stupid, if we engage in a war against anyone, they will have the right to torture our soldiers if they get captured. You can’t complain about them being tortured and video tape surfacing of it, if you advocate torture as a way of making people talk. But Nazi’s like you, Sean Mannity, the republicans in congress like to play tough we other people’s blood. If you get off you fat azz and enlist them I might listen to you.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:06 pmRush was so tortured by his pilonidal cyst he got a deferment…tuff guy this Limbaugh.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:11 pmDon’t forget, this man’s crass stupidity, vulgarity and inhumanity earns him tens of millions a year.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:12 pm#12. Limbaugh didn’t serve in the military because he received a deferment for a boil on his ass.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:13 pmI think that the fastest way to break a prisoner would be to force him to listen to this drug addled kiddie cruiser 24/7. That would be more psychologically brutal than any physical abuse imaginalble. I would give up my own mother to avoid that kind of torture.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:13 pmhp: “Finally, a Limbaugh post! For a minute I thought you guys forgot why you were here…”
If he matters to Republicans, he matters to us. And it gives you something to do.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:14 pmI would love to see Rush waterboarded.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:15 pmThere is a medical name for the boil on Rush’s ass. The doctor’s call it hp.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:15 pmhp Says:
——————————————————————————–
Finally, a Limbaugh post! For a minute I thought you guys forgot why you were here…
————–
We’ll never forget why you’re here, though–to make a complete ass of yourself. You’re exceptional at it, I must say.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:18 pmI think what rush is trying to get at is that any man whose ever touched his own p@nis should be comfortable with having it touched by another mans hand…right rush?
April 18th, 2009 at 2:19 pmSlapping his face doesn’t impress anyone. He can’t feel his face anyway with all the drugs he’s on. He has to hit himself a lot harder than that to make me tune in. If he wants his ratings to soar he’s got to really hurt himself. You know, bruises, black eye, self mutilation, that sort of thing.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:21 pm>Don’t you dare touch a murdering terrorist
Uhm..who exactly gets to determine whose a “murdering terrorist”? the honest folks who told us they knew where saddaams WMD were?
jesus your not bright…
your heroes lawyers have asserted that the president has the right to sexually torture CHILDREN at his sole discretion..not just “murdering terrorists”…
I suggest you bone up more on the people you support..
April 18th, 2009 at 2:24 pmhp – it’s just a lot easier to keep track of the one guy that does all the Righties’ thinking for them, rather than to deal with each idiot individually.
you’ve really got to try thinking of it in more business-like terms. efficiency enables success.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:25 pmFresh bucket of chum from hp.
Next.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:27 pmI guess it’s better to bring this slimy undergrowth to light, rather than letting it flourish under rocks while sending out its slimy tentacles to vulnerable weak minded people. But I am getting really tired of hearing from and about this silly clown. Anyone else feel the same. I know that he was greatly responsible for spreading the anti-Clinton messages early on in that presidency, but I wonder if giving him so much amplification is smart or not? I know he is the only voice certain places ever hear on the radio…
April 18th, 2009 at 2:27 pmif you righty guys keep grasping all the straws, you’re not going to have any left to build strawmen out of.
again – efficiency, business, success…..get with the program. as it stands, i wouldn’t hire any of you to sweep up or wash dishes, let alone manage anything.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:28 pmhp & slippery dope: I should’ve been more specific for you two stupids.
Look dumbasses, I’d like to see people like you and Rush have the experience since you don’t think being waterboarded is torture. I should’ve been more specific since you trolls are too ignorant for your own good. Got it fools?
April 18th, 2009 at 2:30 pmHi slippery, just so you know, I don’t advocate waterboarding anyone… I am a nice, fun-loving liberal. Are you one of those not-so-nice, generalizing farknuts?
April 18th, 2009 at 2:30 pmLimbaugh began slapping himself to mock anyone who believed slapping detainees in U.S. custody qualified as mistreatment. “I just slapped myself. I’m torturing myself right now. That’s torture according to these people,” Limbaugh said.
This is the basic principle behind Limbaugh Theory lOl: similarity in name alone is enough to disprove policies built on democratic debate and discussion.
Considering Limbaugh’s seriousness is already in question here, my response may be falling on deaf ears, but in order for “slapping” to be considered “torture”, there needs to be two forces here: the unmovable object and the unwavering hand. Unless Limbaugh is into S&M, I’m pretty sure his hand will waver and stop before pain is too intense. But picture someone not stopping this motion.
About a hundred people here just thought about wanting to do this to Limbaugh right now, I guarantee it.
The fact is that most people will dismiss or admit that all of these forms employed by the Bush administration to get information are “torture” without ever being on the receiving end of it. Most of us can only imagine the situational pain and the helplessness in which these tactics may put us.
Until we experience waterboarding, confinement, slapping, and the such practices used at Guantanimo, we can only use outside observation and our own dogmas to envision the end results. But to mock this situation in the ways that Rush, Bill O’Reilly (his “new venture” with Dennis Miller), Ann Coulter (“OK, you’ve been good, Mohammed, we’re only going to waterboard you today. Let’s get you out of those cold electrodes and onto a nice, warm waterboard, OK?”), and others have done means that they cannot, shall not, and will not ever envision themselves in the same position.
Experience produces experts. If Rush thinks he can be an authority on “slapping”, then I suggest someone else help by acting as the “unwavering hand” to his “immovable object”.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:30 pmOh wait now… I generalized, so that makes ME bad now. Spank spank.
In other words… NEXT.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:31 pmDoesn’t it kind of destroy the “Limbaugh obsession” theme when you have to express relief at a Limbaugh thread after such a long delay? More than a week, judging by a search result. How many articles do you suppose TP posted in those 9 days? Maybe a hundred? More?
Yeah, I think it does destroy that meme.
Poor hp. That’s gonna ruin his whole weekend.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:31 pmThis is great stuff. I look forward to the freaks who come to defend the adjustable bed shock jock…
April 18th, 2009 at 2:32 pmI sure he is slapping something while he is on the air…
April 18th, 2009 at 2:33 pmWhy hypocrisy? You guys say it’s not torture, right? What’s the big deal? After all, Rush just slapped himself. He can take a little waterboarding.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:33 pmslippery dope: How do you know that all of the people being tortured were murdering terrorists? Ignorant fool.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:34 pmso limpbone thinks McCain Was ‘Broken By The North Vietnamese’
that would explain why he disliked him so much…
April 18th, 2009 at 2:35 pm“I just slapped myself. I’m torturing myself right now. That’s torture according to these people,” Limbaugh said.
– - Geeze, the pro- “coercive interrogation” crowd. They claim the techniques used in the interrogations are not only not torture, but that they are barely mild annoyances, and that it’s ludicrous to be making a fuss about them. Some have even gone so far as to apply that characterization to waterboarding, calling it merely a “splash in the face” or a “dunk in the water”.
What bothers me about this viewpoint is that if these techniques are so harmless, then how do they even work?
April 18th, 2009 at 2:36 pmThe far right thinks waterboarding is no big deal so why not waterboard them?
April 18th, 2009 at 2:37 pmand mcSPINE will rally to his own defense against limpbone, ever?
April 18th, 2009 at 2:38 pmIt’s sad to think about all the American soldiers who sacrificed their lives so that a slimeball chickenhawk like Rush Limbaugh could make jokes about American POWs who were tortured.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:40 pmYou only ask that question because you are rational and you think things through unlike a conservative.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:43 pm…and Badmoodman uncovers another layer of the onion of irrationality that is conservative thought.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:48 pmThe professionals have stated, torture doesn’t work to get information.
The tortured have said torture doesn’t work to get information.
As a nation we use to find torture inexcusable and repugnant.
Rush Limbaugh and the Republicans and Christian Right appear to be justifying torture. I wonder what purpose it serves?
What grounds do they base their arguments?
For this American, our government has tolerated the conduct of mindless thugs! Not an episode in our history to be proud of.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:51 pmThank you Cheney/Bush for the legacy!
Hey Rush Blow, I’m available for hire if you need someone to slap you. Heck, I’ll beat your flabby, drug addicted ass for no extra charge.
April 18th, 2009 at 2:51 pmKeep in mind, these people think they’re brilliant.
April 18th, 2009 at 3:02 pmPurple State @41,
Hey! I volunteered first.
You’ll have to take your place in line.
April 18th, 2009 at 3:06 pmPerry logan Says:
——————————————————————————–
Keep in mind, these people think they’re brilliant.
Hey Perry, you know this is what scares me, they really think their a cut above the rest of the crowd. And They really get upset if you tell them otherwise.
April 18th, 2009 at 3:06 pmAnd that goes for you too, stewarjt!
April 18th, 2009 at 3:07 pmralph the wonder locust Says:
Of course, when campaigning in Pittsburgh, McCain said that he had given up the names of the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line, but you get the picture…
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
He has also said the Jets OL
April 18th, 2009 at 3:09 pmI am getting disappointed. Are there none that will come defend either El Rushbo or that torture broken war “hero”?
April 18th, 2009 at 3:17 pmLimbaugh condemned McCain and every other American POW subject to torture and glorified sadism at the same time.
I call that sick. He needs a psych evaluation asap.
April 18th, 2009 at 3:21 pm“I just slapped myself. I’m torturing myself right now. That’s torture according to these people,” Limbaugh said.
– - Usually he has a Dominican boy take care of that.
April 18th, 2009 at 3:22 pmI’m not one to stand in line and practice something that I am one to denounce, so maybe I should retract my previous statement on the “slapping” of Rush Limbaugh. I shouldn’t be wishing that on anyone, even my worst enemies.
But I stand behind the rest of my opinion. Rush is as much an expert on the definition of torture as you or I.
April 18th, 2009 at 3:22 pmDEVOLUTION OF THE SPECIES
Today’s GOP is a genetically and or psychologically deviant mélange of morally and ethically defective mutants, miscreants and kamikaze loyalists who are crashing and burning all things Republican. They are the figurative buzzards and hyenas fighting over the last scraps of a carcass riddled with maggots and festering clumps of putrefied viscera. They are the opportunistic parasites whose very existence is and always has been dependent on sucking blood from the engorged bellies of alpha predators. The prevalence of fear, paranoia and irrational hatred in today’s GOP represents the antemortem gasps of a doomed species struggling to survive in evaporating pools of their own toxic waste as they mercilessly slice and dice one another in futile attempts to become the biggest fish in an increasingly smaller and smaller pond.
April 18th, 2009 at 3:24 pmI think it’s safe to say that a lot of Americans if given the chance would enjoy punching Limbaugh full fisted.
April 18th, 2009 at 3:26 pmSeems possible Limbaugh has shared some ‘tea’ with little Dominican boys, huh? What a Pig.
April 18th, 2009 at 3:27 pmBETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA
In order to gain the political control they’ve enjoyed over the last ten years, Republican moderates and fiscal conservatives made a pact with the devil (faux Christians, bigots and misanthropes) to achieve the numbers they needed to defeat Democrats. They made a strategic decision to manipulate and exploit the ignorance, fears and hatreds of dysfunctional and vulnerable voters in order to win elections rather than lose them by being intellectually and morally honest.
Today, those who conspired with the devil are caught between wanting to disassociate themselves with and or casting out the devil they empowered and the karmic reality that they don’t have the numbers to hold on to or regain power without continuing to accept and “advocate” the immoral values, hypocrisies and corruptions that are dividing and destroying their party.
The survival of today’s shrinking Republican Party has become so dependent on extremism that they have no significant power left WITH or WITHOUT the support of America’s increasingly pernicious lunatic fringe.
The idiom “caught between the devil and the deep blue sea” is certainly appropriate as Republicans are facing the dilemma of choosing between two equally undesirable alternatives that both result in Republican impotence in mainstream American politics. They are suffering the consequences of their treachery.
Their irresponsible propping up of George W. Bush cost them their credibility, and their disgraceful and shameless licking of Rush Limbaugh’s storm trooper boots is costing them their viability.
April 18th, 2009 at 3:27 pm#60. Sorry.
April 18th, 2009 at 3:31 pmLet me slap the f out of you limpydic.
April 18th, 2009 at 3:41 pmThat’s just hilarious. Best laugh of the week.
So, McCain is not a war hero anymore? How sad.
April 18th, 2009 at 3:44 pmThe continuing slow Republican suicide continues. Everyday there is something. Even though I don’t beleive McCain is a traitor, it looks like Rush does. Or maybe it is that Rush doesn’t actually pay attention to the words that come out of his own mouth.
April 18th, 2009 at 3:46 pmWhere are proud or Tim43 or any of the usuals who claim ratings equals reality. Come on guys someone must have a little nerve to come to the aid of either McGramps or Rush. Don’t be scared…
April 18th, 2009 at 3:53 pmWell, well, well let see what the repug leader does in his spare time:
Traverses to far away islands with his bff’s.
Carries little blue dic pills to said islands.
Carries on with the children, bff or with both on the isle.
Carries on with a monkey called sexy oxy.
Shops for doctors to horde his lady love.
Forced his maid to be a pusher.
Can’t keep a woman if he paid for it.
I know there’s more…tons more.
April 18th, 2009 at 3:54 pmAny chance that Limbaugh would voluntarily sign himself in for even just a weekend of intensive interrogation.
Just 1 weekend. Two days. That’s all I ask!
April 18th, 2009 at 3:54 pmKnowing mccain’s infamous temper, it will be interesting to see if he responds to basically being called an “enemy collaborator” by rush. Maybe he’ll call in tomorrow and give rush a piece of his mind–and then apologize the next day, of course.
April 18th, 2009 at 3:58 pmOH MY GOD !!!
April 18th, 2009 at 4:11 pmRush tosses Mcsenile under the bus to create himself a deadly paradox for the Repugnents either torture doesn’t work or the Repugnants nominated a traitor as a leader old cyst butt is looking like the idiot he really is
@63 nellre: Good idea. Braodcast and cable networks really should make psych evaluation once a year mandatory for certain positions in the industry.
April 18th, 2009 at 4:12 pmLook folks, most of McCain’s injuries came from the fighter jet crash that he was in, and not from torture.
April 18th, 2009 at 4:16 pmDuring the campaign, they and the bloviating talkers wanted you to think his disabilities came from torture-they didn’t-they came from improper care after the airplane crash.
It has occurred that Rush may be a tortured soul these days, that’s why he can associate with torture so well. Rush needs a long stretch with the shrinks to see if they can put him right. If not, we just have to commit. If it was only that easy.
April 18th, 2009 at 4:36 pmLIMBAUGH: The idea that torture doesn’t work– that’s been put out from John McCain on down– You know, for the longest time McCain said torture doesn’t work then he admitted in his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention last summer that he was broken by North Vietnamese. So what are we to think here?
‘So what are we to think here?’ How about John McCain is a liar!
April 18th, 2009 at 4:37 pm“I just slapped myself. I’m torturing myself right now. That’s torture according to these people,” Limbaugh said.
No, blowhard, you are torturing anyone listening to you. Of course, that doesn’t truly constitute torture, more like masochism.
The CIA really missed their chance with interrogation techniques. All they had to do was play the Limbaugh Show 24/7 for the detainees. It is proven that even a few hours of it a day will unhinge anyone.
April 18th, 2009 at 4:38 pmLimbaugh tortures us every time he opens his mouth.
April 18th, 2009 at 4:40 pmThere is a strata in our society that is so sick it is beyond words.
-GSD
April 18th, 2009 at 4:40 pmRush is becoming a huge embarrassment. I don’t know anyone who listens to him, but maybe some do, but won’t admit it. What’s worse?
April 18th, 2009 at 4:43 pmYeah, they broke McCain. And he gave them the Pittsburgh Steelers. :-D Idiot.
April 18th, 2009 at 4:44 pmI am beginning to think that Steele and Limbaugh are secret Democratic Party agents. They were obviously in deep cover, waiting for the moment to strike down the Republican Party. Their weapon: Stupidity. Oh yeah: Fox News, Michelle Bachmann, Rick Perry, Hannity, OReily, you get the idea, all them too.
April 18th, 2009 at 4:50 pmCan we get a shout out to a few of the dittoheads? Come on feel free to drop by and discuss the big guy’s comments with us? I promise to tie both halves of my brain behind my back…
April 18th, 2009 at 4:51 pmit broke mccain so badly that he started immediately cheating on his wife (who was in a car accident so bad that she was 5 inches shorter after surgery than before) and chasing anything in a skirt upon his return from vietnam.
it broke him so badly that he hooked up with the wealthiest woman in the state of arizone, and fter he married into her wealth and connections, he started a career in politics.
he is still broken. he honestly expect us to vote against our own self interests and vote for tax breaks that only benefit him and a handful of others.
he is still broken.
April 18th, 2009 at 5:00 pmHe just said it’s o.k. to torture our troops. I wonder how many veterans and soldiers really heard that.
April 18th, 2009 at 5:06 pmThe Grand Right Wing Implosion is a wonderful sight to witness. I am so glad that I was born in this part of history and get to witness the karmic event of the millenium and not simply read about it in a history book.
April 18th, 2009 at 5:11 pmHas anyone asked the Newt for any response?
April 18th, 2009 at 5:12 pmNewt is busy congragulating himself on how successful the ‘Tea-baggers’ were.
April 18th, 2009 at 5:19 pm-might explain why he can’t keep a woman, in spite of being a multi-millionair (or perhaps its the boil on his ass, or his drug addiction, or his big fatass, or his wee willie, etc, etc)
April 18th, 2009 at 5:23 pmRush Limbaugh– where to start with such an anti-American?? Let’s begin by describing torture for Limbaugh (since he believes torture really doesn’t exist)– well, how about taking away all Limbaugh’s Twinkies? His soda pop? His chips? His butter? Well, anything that makes people fat & stupid, that would apply. Limbaugh is truly a milguetoast, namby-pampy loser who has never served his country, has never really supported the troops. He sits at his 2+ million dollar desk and criticizes anyone who disagrees with him. He is the epitome of the anti-patriot, anti-American. He hates Americans. In 1960s terms, he’s a slob.
April 18th, 2009 at 5:23 pmFunny thing about human rights – we all have them, including the other side – even really bad guys and extremists like Rush Limbagh. That’s usually an inconvenient truth, but right now he’s indicting himself so i say kudos to human rights in America! The veterans will catch on to this guy and peg him for what he is.
April 18th, 2009 at 5:24 pmOn further reflection, I think they might be right. Tired old white men may be an endangered species afterall. I suppose now they wish they hadn’t tried to eviscerate that landmark legislation… Then again maybe nature should be allowed to take its course…
April 18th, 2009 at 5:25 pmApe-Man@97, I have never understood how the Republicans always had such a grip on the military. Even though it has been exposed how Republicans underfund the veterans for even basic care. Sigh!
April 18th, 2009 at 5:27 pmOh, I forgot– and Limbaugh coerces stupid Fox/Limbaugh listeners to think he has any facts/understanding/patriotism whatsoever. He doesn’t. He lives for his $$$$ and his contract. He is a millionaire, happy with his huge amount of money, while he embarrasses & defames all his listeners. It’s all about money for Limbaugh. Hates his listeners, but if they continue to listen, he’ll continue to make them look like idiots. They makes him rich, which they will never be. He’s truly an anti-American leech.
April 18th, 2009 at 5:29 pmHas anyone ever asked him point blank how much he has in offshore accounts?

April 18th, 2009 at 5:35 pmWhile we’re discussing the Fat Man’s utterly inane babblings, let’s not forget that the drug-addled human colostomy bag was actually DEFENDING the Somali pirates earlier in the week…

President Obama Ordered the Killing of Three Black Muslim Kids

RUSH: You know what we have learned about the Somali pirates, the merchant marine organizers that were wiped out at the order of Barack Obama, you know what we learned about them? They were teenagers.
The Somali pirates, the merchant marine organizers who took a US merchant captain hostage for five days were inexperienced youths, the defense secretary, Roberts Gates, said yesterday, adding that the hijackers were between 17 and 19 years old. Now, just imagine the hue and cry had a Republican president ordered the shooting of black teenagers on the high seas.
Greetings and welcome back, Rush Limbaugh, the Excellence in Broadcasting Network and the Limbaugh Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies.

______________
Of course, earlier in the week, Rush had something different to say about the situation…
(again, Rush’s OWN words…)
According to Rush: “The whole reason that there is a resurgence of piracy, which is something that was thought to have been stamped out a couple hundred years ago, is precisely because idiots like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama think pirates and terrorists — and this is terrorism — are criminals, not enemies.”
The administration and “the left” don’t get it, according to Rush. They “fervently believe[]” America has enemies by virtue of its own existence, and because it steals from the poor nations of the world. Rush’s conclusion from this? The left believes “these pirates, in a way, I mean, it’s brothers in arms. You don’t understand. They’re mad. They have a poor country. We don’t. We gotta understand them.”

April 18th, 2009 at 5:37 pmThis uneducated, drug addled, over weight, gas bag is a disgrace to the human race. The republican party should be identified with this sorry individual and both he and the party should be shamed out of existence. How anybody can listen to this hateful non-sense I do not understand.
April 18th, 2009 at 5:43 pmSorry about the 4 in a row– Limbaugh makes me hate patriotism– he’s bigoted, hateful, stupid, anti-American, anti-patriotism, liar. And revoltingly fat & ugly. (My opinion – he’s the political Ernest Angly!!)) What a horrifying creep, liar, dishonest blowhard, stupid buffoon, etc.) LImbaugh is a blight on the U.S. A liar, a smearer, a buffoon, a con-artist. Ignore this absolute idiot. He never EVER worries about facts. He is totally a liar, entertainer, opinionist. He has NOTHING to do with facts & journalism. To finally summarize– he’s an anti-American cartoon.
April 18th, 2009 at 5:46 pmRush worries about Rush and his contract. That’s all. Whatever it will take to keep money rolling into the company that paid him his millions. He doesn’t care about this country, or facts, or the truth.
April 18th, 2009 at 5:58 pmRush worries about Rush and his contract. That’s all. Whatever it will take to keep money rolling into the company that paid him his millions. He doesn’t care about this country, or facts, or the truth.
April 18th, 2009 at 5:58 pmFirst Rush mocked Michael J Fox for having Parkinson’s disease. His audience and his advertisers laughed while defending him and said “that’s really funny.”
Then he mocked our men and women in uniform who disagreed with him. Rush called them “phony soldiers.” His audience and his advertisers laughed while defending him and said, “that’s really funny.”
Now Rush defends torture and mocks those who’ve had to endure it. Civilized people say, “that really ISN’T funny – It’s SICK”
How long will it take and who will be the first of his audience and his advertisers to say, “No. That’s not sick – that’s really funny”??
Rush is no longer the issue here. It’s the people who defend and support him.
April 18th, 2009 at 6:01 pm“I just slapped myself. I’m torturing myself right now.”
Of course, those who were watching him on the “ditto-cam” realize that he was actually spanking the monkey and choking the chicken.
I must say, though, that his diet is really working wonders for him. He’s lost so much weight that he has gone from morbidly obese to merely grotesquely fat. He’s still repulsive but at least there’s less of him to be offended by.
April 18th, 2009 at 6:03 pmi think for the sake of conducting an honest investigation into this matter tub-o-lard should volunteer to be subjected to “enhanced interrogation techniques” until he signs a blank check.
April 18th, 2009 at 6:17 pmEh. I hope Fat Bastard chokes on his own blubber.
April 18th, 2009 at 6:27 pmP.D. Says:
Newt is busy congragulating himself on how successful the ‘Tea-baggers’ were.
I would say there were more nuts than usual on tax day but it wasn’t no big thing. repugs must latch onto a blank day, when nothing is going on, then have 250k people attending around the country.
It’s like the repugs will latch onto any day that automatically brings out crowds. How stupid is that? HAHAHAHA
What’s next teabagging on the 4th of July? I can hear the teabaggers now: our 4th of July teabagging was a huge success.
What happen on tax day was just a bunch of racist acting kkkish insane kooks.
I haven’t seen one of these ahole teabaggers in person.
April 18th, 2009 at 6:31 pmIf I’m not mistaken isn’t country music more progressive than the teabaggers?
April 18th, 2009 at 6:40 pmOk, we all know Rush is a total Idiot…The sad part is that he actually has a following. In other words, there are real Americans out there who actually condone and support torture of another human being.
April 18th, 2009 at 6:50 pmWhat does this say about America? Aren’t we the ones that has always pushed for human rights? Are we now on the same level and Communist North Vietnam?
Hell, why not just start executing people that are committed of committing a crime..not matter what it is.
I JUST DON’T Get it.
If it wasn’t for the fat Limba would be nothing.
April 18th, 2009 at 6:53 pmStill no dittoheads here to advocate for this fellow? What gives? Are they afraid or have they just not been told what to think yet?
April 18th, 2009 at 6:58 pm“What are we to think here?”
I think you’re the sickest man in show business, Rush Limbaugh.
It wouldn’t matter if torture did work. It wouldn’t matter if it worked or not. We should never torture, and it should remain illegal.
That’s America.
April 18th, 2009 at 7:07 pmThey “fervently believe[]” America has enemies by virtue of its own existence -Rush Limbaugh
I recall that the ‘terrorist hate us because we are free’ a talking point of the RWN they fervently believed. Because of the virtue of our own existence, right Rush?
Heal thyself hypocrite
April 18th, 2009 at 7:09 pmWhat Limbaugh is spinning away, I think, is the big lies of the Bush/Cheney white house ‘We dont torture’
The truth is, and this I think is an important point – They Flat Out Bald Faced Lied to ALL of the American people.
April 18th, 2009 at 7:14 pmdbadass – would imagine the troolls are getting the ‘iran prisoner’ talking points lined up…
last saw one at that thread with an idea for a parking lot…
much earlier today…
what’s for dinner?
i was hungry for some leeks and can’t decide what to do with them…
April 18th, 2009 at 7:21 pmLet the record show: McCain was pretty much coddled. His injuries moslty were sustained either when the jet crashed into the lake, or when the North Vietnamese militia members pulled him out of the wreck. They treated his injuries without benefit of anesthesia likely because they were using what little of it they had to help the people McCain had been trying to kill.
April 18th, 2009 at 7:32 pmAnd we have our first slope!
April 18th, 2009 at 7:46 pmI am coming to the conclusion that the Reichwhiners are becoming more erratic because they recognize their utter failure. People who are confident about their position simply don’t say this kind of crap. It’s like a last desperate statement of a condemned man in front of a firing squad.
April 18th, 2009 at 7:51 pmHow can any sane person defend torture ? I just can’t believe that our “çivilized” society is still clinging to such a barbaric act.
Practically every right winger is echoing dimbulb.
Strange how there’s laws against mistreating children and animals, but an adult human may be subjected to excruciating pain, as long as it’s in the name of Uncle Sam.
April 18th, 2009 at 8:01 pmdid mc cain give any information ?
April 18th, 2009 at 8:01 pmthat’s what it sounds like
Duuu! Torture works? Will someone please take that guys microphone away! The only thing this proves is that McCain is a weak a$$ and will crack under pressure! We don’t need a weak a$$ neocon running this country. If McCain was a patriot, he would have died before releasing info – bottom line!

Odd that a troll would invoke the record. That pesky record strongly suggests that neither Lush nor Flippy McSpin are particularly honest or stable.

April 18th, 2009 at 8:28 pmI don’t know where that capital S and opening bracket came from.
hey, if torture is no worse than a fat man slapping himself, then tokin has a pretty good argument.
April 18th, 2009 at 8:31 pmhanshiro, when I heard about the insects, that passage from Orwell was the first thing that i recalled, too.
April 18th, 2009 at 8:32 pmDr. Hussein Matt Says:
——————————————————————————–
Introducing the RedState Army Strike Force
The harder the reich-wing tries, the more desperate, pathetic, and laughable they become. b-cup and proud, have you sewed on your patch yet?
————————–
“Strike Force” indeed.
As in “Three strikes and you’re out.”
April 18th, 2009 at 8:33 pmLate getting here. This is just sad. WTF kind of people are these? Rush has hit a new low in being pathetic. I’m at a loss. What kind of world do we really want to live in? How long are we going to let ourselves to continue to be manipulated by the MSM, FOX News, whatever newspapers are still left and the MINORITY Right?! Rush is proof positive that the people adhering to these outlets are either weak minded or just simply sadistic. Rush slapping himself as if that’s an equivalent to torture. What a joke! He’s nothing short of a sadistic deviant that should have been arrested long ago. But in corporate America, those with the money build the jails, they don’t reside in them.
April 18th, 2009 at 8:37 pmmmmmmmmm potato leek soup
April 18th, 2009 at 8:58 pmStrike Force my a$$. These right wing cowards are all proud of their guns in bumfu(kistan where nobody is shooting back at them. But like Rush they didn’t serve in the military and most of them are afraid to go to a big city where they might run into somebody else with a gun.
April 18th, 2009 at 9:13 pmSure torture works, but that does not mean that the people being tortured are actually telling the truth.
People used to admit to being witches and having sex with Satan under torture too, I don’t think any sane person thinks they were being truthful.
None of that matters though, because the United States should not torture.
April 18th, 2009 at 9:14 pmWhat do you bet Limba leaves town like he promiced now that he’s endorsed torture and treason. I’m betting that was just another lie.
April 18th, 2009 at 9:18 pmrepugs are idiots because being stupids is easier for them.
Did y’all catch this on Keith’s show?
HAHAHAHA repugs are done, we are moving forward without them.
April 18th, 2009 at 9:24 pmLet’s see. Torture works, but the CIA doesn’t torture. But if they did, it would work and save lives.
Furthermore, the GOP insists that the CIA interrogation documents are no big deal and are much to do about nothing, yet out of the other side of their mouths they claim that disclosure about interrogation techniques involving “torture” will jeopardize national security.
How can these documents be both trivial and inconsequential and a threat to the nation at the same time? You cannot have it both ways.
April 18th, 2009 at 9:25 pmOnly slightly OT:
College Humor made a hillarious (NSFW) music video about the deterioration of comment threads, to the tune of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start The Fire.” As a wise man once said, “It’s funny cause it’s true. “We Didn’t Start The Flame War”
(via boingboing)
It really is pretty clever…
April 18th, 2009 at 9:27 pmWhen our military has suspected terrorists in custody they should give them a choice. Let them know they can tell us what they know or their going to be locked up in a room with Rush limpdick on the radio 24/7.
April 18th, 2009 at 9:30 pmbtw
Eugene Robinson stated that the repugs may have something to run with. I can’t believe any normal person would make up shit to help the repugs.
Granted it was a stupid idea (I can’t remember what it was — tp-ers…help) from him but still, it’s upsetting when a usually normal person thinks the repugs need help creating their brand of bs.
They don’t need help making up bs talking points or stealing.
April 18th, 2009 at 9:34 pmSome interesting information on John McCain in Vietnam.
http://www.vietnamveteransagainstjohnmccain.com/cin_mccainfiles.htm
April 18th, 2009 at 9:49 pmThese idiots had total reign of the US for the last 8 yrs and before that 22 yrs.
This amazes me.
limpydic is just worried about his millions. he will say and do anything for attention and his shrinking imbecile listeners.
He isn’t sane at all.
April 18th, 2009 at 9:50 pmsscncturn64 Says:
I cannot condone such cruel torture
April 18th, 2009 at 9:59 pmI wouldn’t wish aphasia on anyone.
April 18th, 2009 at 10:02 pmExcept Rush Limbaugh.
Cal Malenky Says:
It would be a gift to the world. I might wish it on Annie Gangleskank Coulter and Micheal the Weinerdog Savage.
April 18th, 2009 at 10:07 pmThanks game of life for putting that link up. I did see it on Keith`s show, but i get a kick out of how these wingnuts are so ignorant. They cheer when asked if they make less than $250,000 a year, then when their told that they get a cut in taxes, silence. I can see them looking at one another and asking. where getting a break in income taxes. wow, no sht,c`mon we still have time to make it to the gun show.
April 18th, 2009 at 10:10 pmhe’s a history revisionist. what else is there to say?
April 18th, 2009 at 10:25 pmWell, I’m late to this party. I’m no big McCain fan, but I definitely believe he would last a whole lot longer under torture than Limbaugh.I’m pretty sure we could get Limbaugh to confess to whatever, simply by threatening him with public transportation and economy class airline travel. The part that amazes me is that anyone is debating whether or not torture produces actionable intelligence. It doesn’t matter, I want to come from a country that just doesn’t do that. I don’t care if it works or not, we don’t want to be torturers.
April 18th, 2009 at 10:31 pmDoes anyone know if theres a biography written about limdpick,he seems to know about everything. Im assuming his life experiences about war, torture, economics, and everything else hes right about come from experience. I would like to read it. Not a auto bio. though.
April 18th, 2009 at 10:34 pmLenny Bruce is helpful so often. He did a bit about a very patriotic POW proclaiming his stalwart stance against cooperating with the enemy … until he sees them preparing the enema. What’re they heating that lead up for?
The POW gives secrets and more secrets and offers ever more. Lenny Bruce says, “If you can take the hot lead enema, then you can toss the first stone.”
Limbo nor nobody writing or reading here has ever had the opportunity to show the resolve we are so quick to judge others for missing. (The overweight pill freak, typical of Repugnants, scored a 4-F to dodge the draft.) McGoon certainly cooperated, and he’s been gently carried throughout the campaign by those afraid to confront him on the POW question. (The POW-MIA organization is particularly virulent in its criticism.)
But we’re skipping a beat here. The sin was in going into Vietnam in the first place, not how we all comported ourselves in the slaughter.
April 18th, 2009 at 10:42 pmtorture for Limpdick? – full prescription pad with “no refills” box checked
April 18th, 2009 at 11:54 pmNow that Limbaugh has indicted John McCain[R] he can go back to indicting himself again.
April 19th, 2009 at 12:17 amYou ask any cop with half a brain cell if during the interrogation of a suspect, whether torture works? He or she would reply, are you nuts? Number 1, anybody who knows anything about interrogation of suspects knows it doesn’t work; Number 2, if I tortured a suspect all evidence that I gathered would be thrown out of court; Number 3, I would be arrested and go to prison and also lose everything I own in a civil suit.
There is not one cop in America who would do it and get away with it. Only former President bush jr. & dick cheney could order it, get away with it, and defend it.
Limboo you’re time has come and gone, when you go to hell make sure to say “hello” to Joe McCarthy.
April 19th, 2009 at 12:31 amSo what are we to make of this? That Mr. Limbaugh is into self-abuse? In public? While on the air?
Well, we have one more reason to hurl …
April 19th, 2009 at 12:46 amThere are not enough rich people to win the needed elections, just as there are not enough wackos to win the needed elections, and just as there are not enough christionists to win the needed elections. (I use the word christionist because so so many of them have no interest in the actual teachings of Christ. The profits are in christionism, not in Christianity.)
But figure out a way to get them all voting for the same guy and watch out. This is exactly how the right wing survived for the last 25 years. And Rush helped, even though Rush’s goal was ratings and increasing his contract size.
Sadly for the Republican party, Rush realizes he stands to make a lot MORE money as an outsider than he could ever make while a Republican party is in power. Hence, he has no motive to tone down his idiocy. The more idiotic, the more $ he stands to make. Good for Rush, but bad for the Republican party. And as long as this damages the ability of Republicans to win elections, good for America.
Empower common people and get the American 20th century. Vote progressive.
Empower the rich and get the American 19th century, and the last 8 years of the 21st. Vote Republican.
April 19th, 2009 at 1:02 am.
The (R)ushpublickin himself said it folks…
… He’s glad McCain was “broken” by his captors.
Can someone please remind the (R)ushpublickin that McCain signed a false confession because of him being “broken”…
… Thus proving the notion that torture produces unreliable info.

April 19th, 2009 at 7:22 amTorture is great at forcing the only detainees you bothered to actually apprehend to claim they are the masterminds you didn’t bother to go after, so you can say you caught the mastermind.
I am not sure what the North Vietnamese could do with the information they got from McCain, other than being able to follow a Pittsburgh Steelers game a little closer and appreciate what linemen add to the game.
The ex-military caller, that handed Limbaugh his increasingly enlarging butt to him, was exactly right.
April 19th, 2009 at 9:28 amTorture doesn’t work but, unfortunately for America, filling the mushy brains of his conscripts with misinformation and pretzel logic works just fine for Limbaugh. “Conscripts” because they really haven’t any choice other than to turn off the radio, there simply isn’t much else besides Rush Radio and Fox. O to return to the days when the air waves were considered a public trust and to monopolize them was not allowed. Thank jeebus for the internet.
April 19th, 2009 at 9:59 amRodeskawler has made a very good point. I can see how it would be more convenient, rather than to have to go to the trouble of catching the real bad guys, to just make the “bad guys” be the guys you have at hand. That would free one up to say “Mission Accomplished” and then run off to pursue adventures in another, unrelated, theatre of war, now wouldn’t it? Yes. Good point!

April 21st, 2009 at 10:28 amJohn McCain led the privileged life in the Navy even after crashing 5 aircraft. As far as his alleged torture, McCain, according to sources, made his captors aware of who he was on his fourth captivity day and made a deal. He was transferred to a Vietnamese Officers hospital, a Moscow surgeon was flown in and he was operated upon…all of which violates the Code of Conduct and the UCMJ. He admitted such in a US News and World Report, 5/14/73 and stated he was SLAPPED around for 3 or 4 days by his captors. Later he willingly collaborated with the North Vietnamese by accomplishing radio broadcasts and narrating films. Even his fellow prisoners doubt he was ever tortured and in fact, resented his collaboration. McCain’s greatest fear are fellow prisoner statements about his actions being released. McCain admit he accepted preferential treatment, disclosed military information and praticipated in propaganda activities all of which were forbidden by military law. He is no friend of Vietnam Veterans and has constantly voted against any Veterans bill (27 at last count). Rush is a fool and has been deceived by McCain and his alleged torture. He should have been courtmartialed, but this was prevented due to his father being an Admiral. Regardless, he is a poor example to give.
