RedState editor: Obama is trying to goad terrorists into attacking the United States ASAP.

Since President Obama decided to release the Bush-era OLC memos outlining the administration’s torture program, conservatives have been trying to argue that the disclosures make the country less safe. Today, RedState Editor-in-Chief Erick Erickson takes the meme a step further, arguing that Obama wants to make the country less safe. In fact, Obama is hoping for a terrorist attack sooner rather than later so he can blame it all on the Bush administration:

We know, because Joe Biden told us, that the Obama administration expects us to get attacked again domestically. [...]

The best strategy would look something like taking a band-aid off quickly. Get the pain over fast. And if an attack happens quickly enough into the new administration, they can blame Bush.

So the Obama administration is working hard to release all the memos on interrogations, change all the policies Bush implemented, and clear out the old as fast as possible. Never mind that if it were done slowly over time, our terrorist enemies might not be so incited to attack.

If your working premise is that they are going to attack anyway, get them incited quickly, get it over with, and blame Bush. There is no other justification for so quickly making us less safe.

On Twitter, Erickson added, “Hilarious to watch the lefties explode over this. … Truth hurts I guess.”

    Dear Erick Erickson,
    But Newt Gingrich wasn’t?
    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5lmje_newt-gingrich-bush-should-allow-rem_news

According to Newt Gingrich, America should have been attacked AGAIN, just to prove to Americans the need of an uber Administration and an FBI capable of usurping Americans privacy.

If anyone wanted to orchestrate a terrorist attack they would only need one consultant: Dick Cheney.

Can’t say for sure if this is just garden variety wingnuttery or a classic case of projection (the Bushniks blamed Clinton for 9/11 even though they ignored the outgoing administration’s warnings about al qaeda so we must accuse Obama of the same strategy).

President Obama has been naive. He’s not spoiling for a terrorist attack! That’s ridiculous! Repugs are sounding like loony lefties with all of this conspiracy talk. The idea is ludicrous.

Now we have the Religious Right calling for the Rapture, we have so-called Conservatives hoping for an other attack. When does it end?

  10. Jackie says:

All this talk about terrorist torture and saving Americans does anyone remember the CIA tortured woman and children. I wonder what secret plan they gave about al qeada after they were waterboarded. President Obama is right not to release anymore of the memos. If Americans had read the Red Cross briefing on what the CIA was ordered to do no one would be talking or even want to look in the mirror. How does anyone explain waterboarding children and justify it? Please tell me because that part of the report I can’t get pass.

I don’t know about the truth, but I’m feeling the pain from Erickson’s poor excuse of an article.

The reason I’m blowing up about Erickson’s article is because there’s no substance to it. There are no references, no links, no nothing…it’s all just assumption and presupposition.

The Obama Administration’s release of the Bush torture/interrogation notes + Biden’s quote = Obama’s actions will incite an attack

    It’s black math.

It is all just fear-mongering and conjecture. I don’t take Erickson’s article seriously, since he has NOTHING but his own words to use, but I am offended by his inability to be effective at citing reports and other articles to back up his conspiracy theories.

  30. JMOHR says:

The Republican party has proven itself to be a clear and present danger to this country. We already know that the Republicans attempted to create a one party state through its K Street project that literally linked corporate interests and the party into one corrupt unit. We know that the Republicans broke numerous laws in attempting to subvert government department and agencies into political operatives of the “party”. We saw the Justice Department turned into a tool to suppress the opposition party through politically motivated and selective prosecution of Democrats on the state and local level.

One would think that the record thus far would merit investigation of the Republican party. It has only gotten worse. We saw the Republican part perpetrate fraud on this nation by actively aiding and abetting falsehoods and slander as to whether Obama was born in this nation or was a Muslim. We saw less subtle techniques used (especially by Palin) to create a violent climate against Obama. Note that there was an alarming increase in violent threats against Obama as a candidate after the use of these tactics.

Lastly, we have seen the Republican party continue a course of conduct of open opposition to the government such as Texas Govenor Rick Perry suggesting secession from the United States.

These actions, in addition to violation of the constitution and war crimes under US and international law, requires that action be taken against this criminal organization under the RICO Act. The party must be declared an illegal, criminal organization.

Well… they know how well it worked for BushCo.

Getting attacked was the best thing ever to happen to that bunch. They got their unitary executive that Cheney had been lusting after for decades, they got to invade Iraq and open the treasury vault so their friends in Halliburton could loot the place, they got themselves an excuse to spy on Americans without a warrant, and they milked it for a second term so Bush could say he outdid his daddy.

Yep. The right wing knows how profitable getting attacked can be.

  34. Libellula saturata Annie says:

In any criminal investigation, one of the tried and true maxims for solving the crime is always “Follow the money.”

    Who profited? Who benefited?

If you follow the money in terms of the 9/11 attacks…well, it all leads right straight back to the Bush/Cheney administration and their cronies.

So call me a “9/11 Truther” if you wish – but until my questions are answered in full, I’m going to believe that Bush and Cheney were in it up to their eyeballs. BECAUSE THEY WERE THE ONES WHO BENEFITED from the events of 9/11.

  35. sammybaby says:

Shorter Erick Erickson: “Torturing these brown people was the only way we could get vital information from them, and I’ll shout it from the hilltops for as long as it takes for you libtards to get the message. Just… um, don’t tell any of those Arabs, because you might make them mad.”

Jesus. To think that this was the party of “bring them on.”

  36. fire _ant_chavis says:

OMG! This is just bananas! These wingnut turds are getting crazier as the days go by. They have nothing on Obama and now want to keep everyone in fear with the threat of another attack. Just rubbish!

ConservativesforProgress (contradiction of terms): How do you know that the Bush Crime Family wasn’t behind the 9/11 attacks? If they weren’t responsible, why haven’t they captured those who are responsible? Where in the world is Osama Bin Laden? Bush lied and said we don’t torture -so- you don’t know squat about whether he lied about 9/11.

  37. Hoodathunktick says:

If we are vulnerable to an attack, it is because the Bush policies have spread our resources so thin. Our military has asked too much of the personnel already and the big dogs have invested money in weapons systems and methodology that is not designed to combat small localized threats.

If anything, President Obama’s conciliatory attitude has bought some time. Time to get past the us vrs them hate meme. Time to possibly find a common ground where mutual existence might exist.

Not that religious fanatics (on all sides) are happy with this development.

  38. ElBruce says:

I find it interesting how they mistake our derision for outrage. Like just another run-of-the-mill Internet troll, Erickson acts proud of getting a reaction from the Left. It doesn’t even matter how right or wrong he is, he’s just excited that he’s getting us to waste time taking notice of him. Which goes to demonstrate just how desperate they are for any kind of our attention at this point.

I think it’s pretty clear at this point who wants the U.S. attacked. And it’s not the Left.

Sad to see him do such a good job of it, but people like him need to be called out on these things. 2-Sterilize all republicans so that they cannot reproduce.

3-Round up republican dissenters and throw them in re-education camps or FEMA death camps.

4-Take away all of their guns all sell them to the Mexican government to help them better combat the Mexican drug cartels.

5-Force all republicans to learn to speak Arabic.

6-Denounce Christianity, burn all bibles and force republicans to convert to Islam and to read the Koran.

7-Erect large bronze statues of President Obama in every State capital and force republicans to bow to it at noon on every Sunday.

These people have really gone off the deep end. But, let them keep it up. Their favorable numbers are pretty much at rock bottom and still falling. By 2010, there won’t be a Republican party.

From the NBC/Washington Post poll yesterday:

Generally speaking, do you usually think of yourself as (a Democrat), (a Republican), an independent or what? IF NOT DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN: Do you lean more towards the (Democratic Party) or (Republican Party)?

    Democrat /Republican /Independent /Other /No op./Lean Dem./Lean Rep. /No Lean
    4/24/09 35 21 38 5 * 18 16 10
    3/29/09 36 25 33 5 1 15 16 8

They have lost 4% of their members in just the last month.

  50. ElBruce says:

    nynick Says:

Not at all. A Presidential Medal of Freedom couldn’t give these people legitimacy.

Besides, by letting them work in the shadows, we give them effectiveness. We’ve seen what they can do by cascading conspiracy theories through Drudge, through FAUX News, through the Republican party and into governmental policy.

Trust me, we aren’t doing them any favors by lifting up the rock they were hiding under.

    .

    Uncle Fester Lurks Says:

  53. sacopenapa says:

9/11 was not a TERRORIST attack. It was a FALSE FLAG operation. Super Thermite ships were scientificly found on the dust of the WTC 1,2 and 7, which supports the ‘controlled demolition’ explanation.
The US uses the term ‘terrorist’ to dehumanize ‘freedom fighter’ oposed to US’s illegal ocupations.

  54. Hoodathunktick says:

The sad part is that if, for whatever reason, we are attacked, I think President Obama will handle it without war. The Republican types really think their way is the only response.

Won’t they just crap their diddy when they see how a real President deals with things?

  55. Uncle Fester Lurks says:

59, lots of neocons and Bush/Cheney loyalists are still in our intelligence agencies. It wouldn’t be hard to plan some type of a “terrorist” attack in multiple cities.

It wouldn’t even have to be something as spectacular as 9/11 was. All that is needed is for the Bush/Cheney loyalists to plant “Iranian” made IED’s to go off in shopping malls, schools, churches, Federal buildings, etc, in 5-10 of our major cities for chaos to erupt and to make the democrats appear to be weak in securing our country.

I can almost hear the clock ticking as we move closer to the 2010 mid term elections as the republicans descend further into irrelevancy.

And these are the people who accuse us of not respecting free speech when a particularly hateful troll gets banned from this or some other liberal blog.

Personally I don’t know of any right wing blog other than Politico who allow progressives to post there.

  60. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

Personally I think it’s more likely that we are going to suffer another domestic terrorist attack like the Oklahoma City bombing by Timothy McVeigh. That or an assassination attempt on our President. That scares me a lot more than the thought of another attack from AQ.

  61. misscoleopteramolly says:

Erickson has either gone completely around the bend, or he’s deliberately setting up the right wing to blame Obama if and when we experience another 9/11.

One thing I learned about conspiracy theories (especially the loonier ones) is to ask if they make any sense at all before perpetuating the “sky is falling!” alarm.

And this one makes no sense at all, for a number of reasons. Here are just a few:

    1. WHY in the world does Obama need to orchestrate something in order to blame Bush? Obama already has far more approval than Bush did since the Iraq invasion. He doesn’t need to pull a stunt like this to gain political capital when he already has it.

    2. Even if Obama was secretly planning a scenario similar to what Erickson describes, it wouldn’t be a smart move. 9/11 happened less than eight months into Bush’s first term, and he totally owned it (cries that Clinton was responsible only stuck with a few kool-aid drinkers). So the window of blaming Bush for any terrorist attack is a very small one, and may already have passed. Obama’s not stupid enough to pull a stunt like this when the risk of backfiring is so great — even if he WAS of the mindset to do so.

    3. Right now, Obama is focusing on the recovery of the economy and has put most of his eggs in that basket. A major terrorist attack is going to strain our resources and make the economy worse. Obama wants to succeed, not fail. He’s not about to shoot himself in the foot like that.

The right just shows their desperation when they have nothing but projection. Oh, and the suggestion that terrorists were genuinely SURPRISED to find out we tortured captives.

We need to keep an eye on them just like a mental patient is observed in an asylum. It’s the only way to identify specific problems and, hopefully, alleviate the worst symptoms.

Let me expand MY last post. You are ignorant. Worthless. Stupid. You are a punkass troll. A waste of precious oxygen and a blight on humanity. Just STFU. YOu have never once posted anything but lies, garbage or mindnumbing stupidity

blockquote> We know, because Joe Biden told us, that the Obama administration expects us to get attacked again domestically.

Yeah. Joe Biden. Nice guy. But sometimes he’s a diarrhea mouth. Speaks from the hip and thinks later. Obama knows that and I’m sure he lets Joe know that and keeps him muzzled and on a short leash.

riiight…nevermind that pretty much any terrorist plot of any signifigance was planned years in advance..in any case…how long is it till 9-11? about 5 months? I guess obama has at least until then to escape blame for an attack happening on his watch..like some other president I cant recall did..

but hey, what quality of conspiracy theories do you expect from a guy whose so inbred that his parents couldnt think of anything more creative to use as his first name than thier last name..Erick Erickson? wow…never name your kid in the midst of a methamphetamine binge..this guy must be some sort of hillbilly viking, anybody want to speculate where his Odin tattoo is?

Is that the link to the court case where Fox News asserted it had a constitutional right to lie to the public and call it news? Prud your apparently a huge fan of fox “news” yet people have asked you repeatedly how you feel about fox news asserting it has a constitution right to lie and call it news, and you never respond..

ps. its you biblethumping fetushuggers that do the whole “messiah” thing..not us…we’re happy to see a president with a 3 digit IQ who doesnt have alzheimers or fetal alchohol syndrome, if you think that means we think he’s a messiah..well..sounds like your probably projecting a bit

  88. greenpagan says:

There won’t be another Islamist terror attack on the U.S. mainland. I will bet money on it.

The only reason 9/11 happened was because Bush left the door open. Moe Larry and Curly could’ve pulled it off. Heckuva job…

    Back on topic:

It appears that many Reichwhiners are growing aware of the fact that the only thing that might return them to relevance is mass violence. The free fall of the world’s economy has abated. Trade remains cautious but market volumes are increasing. The hemorrhage of jobs is slowing and confidence is building.

The plain simple facts indicate that the Obama Administration, despite all attempted obstruction by the sore losers club, is having a stabilizing effect beyond our wildest dreams. At this rate the GOP will be reduced to a disturbing footnote in the next election.

All they have left is the doomsday scenario. I just hope they don’t grow impatient waiting for a foreign invasion that never comes and start the shooting for themselves.

    ___________________________________________________________

You remind me of Bucky the cat in the comic strip “Get Fuzzy” — ignorant as all get-out but not letting that get in the way of a continuous spew of idiocy.

“Doesn’t really make a difference Bambi and the left will continue to blame Pres Bush for everything…”
    – No, Bush is getting blamed for the wreckage he left behind, nothing more. But there’s a LOT of wreckage. And if you’d just pay attention a little more, you’d notice that Obama and his team are actually working to fix things instead of whining. Oh, and…”Bambi”? What, exactly, is the point of calling him that? If you’re going to be insulting, you could at least have your insults make sense.

“…until Republicans take the WH back in 2012.”
    – If the Republicans are going to “take the WH back”, they’d better get cracking. Right now, the party is dominated by fire-breathers who refuse to be limited by facts, and all they’re doing is feeding red meat to the 24% while alienating the moderates they need. Nobody’s getting the White House with 24%.

“Link below to prove why Fox News is #1:”
    – It seems to be really important to you to show at every opportunity that Fox News has higher ratings than CNN or MSNBC. This is meaningless. In the first place, these aren’t the only news sources available. They aren’t even the only TELEVISION news sources. In the second place, being number one in the ratings doesn’t mean quality, or even accuracy — just as McDonald’s doesn’t make the best cheeseburgers in the world just because they sell the most. And in the third place, the article you linked to only shows that Fox is pandering to their anti-Obama audience, nothing more. Those who are interested in what Obama has to say won’t be watching Fox News, anyway.

“And another link just because it is funny and sorta pathetic:”
    – Yes, Obama got ahead of his teleprompter. This has happened at one time or another to every president who has used one (and that’s every president since Eisenhower). BFD — good for a chuckle, but hardly earth-shaking. But doesn’t this sort of undercut the right-wing meme of how Obama can’t say anything without a teleprompter? If he got AHEAD of his teleprompter, doesn’t this mean that he’s not waiting for the teleprompter to tell him what to say? You could at least TRY to keep your drivel consistent, you know.

    Why is FOX News #1?

There’s no point in comparing FAUX News to cable news channels, because it is not one. You might as well make a chart comparing CBS to SciFi and the Home Shopping Network, for all that would prove.

I don’t know why they keep calling Obama Jesus at the same time as disparaging him. Pharisee much? Maybe they’re setting him up for a crucifixion.

Fox News: We can’t spin anymore, so we’re just going to start ignoring anything that we don’t like.

This wouldn’t be the first time. When Iraq was going poorly and there wasn’t anything good for wingnuts to report, they switched over to missing white women, black men on trial and teachers boinking students, 24/7.

  92. dbadass says:

    Good job Fox

    How so?

  93. ElBruce says:

If we were attacked, it wouldn’t benefit the right wing. America pulls together in times of crisis. Even Bush got high popularity ratings just because he happened to be warming the chair in the Oval Office at the moment of 9/11. They stayed high for a considerable time afterwards, no matter how badly he was botching the response.

If we were attacked, Obama’s numbers would only go up.

The wingnuts may want to reconsider what they hope for.

  94. Baloney says:

  96. LeeHope says:

Gee, Wasn’t the Republicans that wanted to place blame for 9/11 on Bill Clinton, even though the attack happened on their guy’s watch? According to idiots like the poster right above me and Joe Scarborough earlier last week on his show……I guess the Right-wingnut don’t love this country at all…they just give lip-service and use our beloved military as pawns to get what they want…..there is rule of law to them and certainly no Constitution….unless it complies with their interpretation of violence. They need to get over the fact that they lost an election…and learn to understand the country doesn’t like them and their hate-speak…that is well documented in the latest polling that says people are leaving their horrid Republican Party….and for good reason, they are a disgrace to be associated with…..

Um…it wasn’t Clinton who ignored the warnings from top terrorist and intelligence experts about a coming attack.

It wasn’t Bill Clinton who was president on 9/11/01.

It wasn’t the Clinton administration who up until 9/11 was going to cut in half the budget for anti-terrorism.

It wasn’t Clinton who allowed Bin Laden to slip away in Tora Bora.

It wasn’t Clinton who has almost helped Bin Laden achieve his stated goal of bankrupting our country by getting us mired in a unnecessary war with a country that had nothing to do with 9/11. (Think what happened to the Soviet Union after their 10 year war with these same terrorists/freedom fighters)

It wasn’t Clinton who has given terrorists everywhere free on hands training as they kill our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It wasn’t Clinton who said “bring em on” and goading the enemy at the expense of our troops.

  101. neoconsrscum says:

  103. ElBruce says:

    Baloney Says:

Thanks to Clinton we had our 9/ll

9/11 happened in September, 2001. Clinton was not President then. Bush had received a report on the possibility of exactly that happening.

I’ll make you a deal – if there’s a major attack during Obama’s administration, we’ll let Obama take the blame… if you’ll lay blame for 9/11 on Bush. Deal? Deal?

    Yeah, didn’t think so.

    .

    Baloney Says:

…and now we have this idiot Obami who wants the world to love him and doesn’t have the faintest idea of what he is doing…

It’s not his fault the world loves him. He’s doing a great job so far. I believe in his first 100 days, Bush had gotten some brush cleared in Crawford?

    .

    Baloney Says:

…plus he has appointed fellow idiots (janet Neopolitano, the Atty Gen., Tax cheat Guithner, I could go on and on)…

Bush governed far more asininely. We have been “messing ourselves over” it for the last eight years. You hadn’t noticed?

  104. flight says:

I will ask the learned right wing one question.
    What constitutes a democracy?

  105. jrfunkenstein says:

I only hope specious tools like this can keep up this insane rhetoric through the 2010 midterms, and the 2012 Presidential elections, because they will not only continue to foster the implosion of the GOP, but will only further serve to show the rest of the world that US Conservatism is in its last throes, if you will.

  106. jrfunkenstein says:

‘This doesn’t sound nearly as crazy as the left’s 911 conspiracy theories about Bush/Cheney.

Still, I don’t believe either theory.’

    It doesn’t? Really? REALLY?

How does it fare against the War on Christmas?

  107. squidbilly says:

Wow, right wing paranoia is becoming mainstream-ish. What a bunch of idiots.

  108. jrfunkenstein says:

In other words, IT MAKES NO SENSE.

  109. jrfunkenstein says:

‘Won’t they just crap their diddy when they see how a real President deals with things?’

They already are; hence the likes of McCain and Cheney spouting an endless litany of lies and fear mongering.

  110. jrfunkenstein says:
