That anyone could fail to understand the financial implications of an epidemic occurring during a recession is beyond imagining. But since this <em>is </em> David Vitter we're talking about, it is sadly all too believable. This is, after all, the Senator who remonstrated against a part of the stimulus package that was to have contained measures to help prevent sexually transmitted disease (oh, the irony). Now if we could just pass something that would help prevent the spread of stupidity ... Collins wanted the pandemic flu funding taken out of the stimulus bill, but then went on to vote against the Omnibus bill that actually included the pandemic flu funding along with the rest of the republicans in the Senate.
