Global Warming Denier Michele Bachmann Named To House GOP ‘Energy Solutions’ Group

bachmann-glasses.jpgLast month, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) announced the creation of the House GOP American Energy Solutions Group, meant to “work on crafting Republican solutions to lower energy prices for American families and small businesses.” Helping lead the way toward finding those solutions? Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), who yesterday announced her appointment to the group:

“My colleagues and I on the Energy Solutions Working Group are dedicated to an ‘all of the above’ approach that will increase the supply of clean, affordable, American-made energy today and encourage investment for newer, more efficient energy technologies for the future. I will also continue my fight against energy tax increases as proposed in the Democrat’s energy proposal for Minnesotan families and small business,” said Bachmann.

If Boehner and the House GOP were truly interested in promoting real solutions to America’s energy and environmental crises, Bachmann should be their last pick for the group. After all, she has made a name for herself by constantly repeating the most nonsensical, misleading, radical untruths about energy and the environment:

“[T]here isn’t even one study that can be produced that shows carbon dioxide is a harmful gas. There isn’t one such study because carbon dioxide is not a harmful gas, it is a harmless gas. Carbon dioxide is natural. It is not harmful. It is part of Earth’s life cycle.” [4/22/09]

And the science indicates that human activity is not the cause of all this global warming. And that in fact, nature is the cause, with solar flares, etc.” [3/22/09]

I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax because we need to fight back. Thomas Jefferson told us, having a revolution every now and then is a good thing.” [3/22/09]

“I came away with the idea that [the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge] is the most perfect place on the planet to drill.” [8/13/08]

“[Pelosi] is committed to her global warming fanaticism to the point where she has said that she’s just trying to save the planet. … We all know that someone did that over 2,000 years ago, they saved the planet — we didn’t need Nancy Pelosi to do that.” [8/12/08]

“The big thing we are working on now is the global warming hoax. It’s all voodoo, nonsense, hokum, a hoax.” [3/15/08]

I don’t think it has been established as a fact that global warming is the issue of the day. One thing we need to do is look at the science.” [10/10/06]

Bachmann is hardly the only member of Boehner’s “solutions” group who is untethered to reality. Rep John Shimkus (R-IL) declared that capping CO2 would be “taking away plant food from the atmosphere,” and called such caps “the largest assault on democracy and freedom in this country that I’ve ever experienced.” Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) called cap and trade “an economic declaration of war on the Midwest.”

Update In an interview with PJTV, Bachmann declared, "The US. has been the only country in the world that actually reduced carbon emissions in the last year. And it's because of prosperity!" (At minute 6:15) (In fact, while the cratering economy allowed U.S. emissions to fall by 3 percent, Finland, for example, cut emissions by more than 12 percent, and the European Union altogether cut emissions by 4-6 percent.)

Let’s see, first order will be to get rid of all pollution laws for coal burning companies that donate to the republican party, and next would be….

    _________________________________________________________

And by appointing such stellar minds as Bachmann to the group, the Republicans have made it clear that they aren’t serious about coming up with any solutions that actually work. This is just about more “drill, baby, drill!”.

Their “solution” is to suck up every last drop of oil they can until the Rapture comes.

  6. I boiled the Easter Bunny says:

We HAD to see this coming. She is so far away from the truth, is was only natural that she’d be lovingly embraced by the GOP.

Maybe the perpetually tanned dandy boy meant that Bachmann should spend a little more energy on his bone

Gee, and you wonder why moderates are leaving the Republican Party in droves when the GOP touts Bachmann as part of the solution….

  10. PatrioticLiberalChristianMantisReligiosa says:

Don’t tell me that there is too little CO2 in the air! You just look at all the dandelions in my yard and try to convince me that those little bugger plants aren’t being well fed! You got your “science”, crazy lady. The rest of us got ours.

  11. P.D. says:

LOL! First I hear Specter is switching parties, now Phyco-lady is getting a chair on a “Solutions” Group? This is a parody right? This is a skit right? You can’t write this stuff!

  12. wags says:

Lemme guess what the “solutions” will be. Money for “clean” coal, more subsidies for oil & gas industries, more domestic drilling.

Might as well throw some tax cuts for the wealthy in there while, just to exhaust ALL their ideas.

  16. osage says:

BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA

In order to gain the political control they’ve enjoyed over the last ten years, Republican moderates and fiscal conservatives made a pact with the devil (faux Christians, bigots and misanthropes) to achieve the numbers they needed to defeat Democrats. They made a strategic decision to manipulate and exploit the ignorance, fears and hatreds of dysfunctional and vulnerable voters in order to win elections rather than lose them by being intellectually and morally honest.

Today, those who conspired with the devil are caught between wanting to disassociate themselves with and or casting out the devil they empowered and the karmic reality that they don’t have the numbers to hold on to or regain power without continuing to accept and “advocate” the immoral values, hypocrisies and corruptions that are dividing and destroying their party.

The survival of today’s shrinking Republican Party has become so dependent on extremism that they have no significant power left WITH or WITHOUT the support of America’s increasingly pernicious lunatic fringe.

The idiom “caught between the devil and the deep blue sea” is certainly appropriate as Republicans are facing the dilemma of choosing between two equally undesirable alternatives that both result in Republican impotence in mainstream American politics. They are suffering the consequences of their treachery.

Their irresponsible propping up of George W. Bush cost them their credibility, and their disgraceful and shameless licking of Rush Limbaugh’s storm trooper boots is costing them their viability.

    …………….
With no child left behind , the decrease in taxable revenues as a result of the declining economy and near universal state budget shortfalls the GOP has guaranteed the long term survival of ignorance .

  21. nofltwlt says:

Wow, do I ever have egg on my face. All along I thought the GOP was hell-bent on taking control of our nation – as in a dictatorship. Now, with this Bachmann move it is clear that the GOP wishes only to destroy the GOP. Good luck with this.

  22. CParis says:

As Darth Cheney would say, “So?”

The GOP doesn’t have much of a bench to choose from for assignments like this. As their party has steered rightward the only folks they can find are faith-based, anti-reason nutcases like Bachman, Jindal, Palin.

Any GOPer with half a brain is trying to stay as far away from these fools, they don’t want to catch those cooties!

  23. spencers butterfly mom says:

Let’s pump their meeting room full of CO2. After all, it’s “natural”, right Batshit Bachmann?

Looks like Rep. Bachmann’s spokesman summed up the GOP quite well! The GOP cannot defend their policies, are FAR out of touch with the American people, and can only nitpick their opposition!

My gosh Ross. You’re right. There IS a great big sucking sound. Boehner just started another flush.

I think that in their first “meeting” they should pray for clean coal. Fcuking dinks!

  35. lurkmode says:

Thanks Boehner and Bachmann for helping further justify the fact that the GOP are completely out of sync with reality.

The 23 percenters just keeping soaking it up while the rest of us …

  36. wolfsinger says:

Seriously. The Republican party reminds me of that old Lucy and Desi skit. Lucy, not knowing a word of Spanish tries to communicate with Desi’s mother whom she wants desperately to impress but, who doesn’t understand a word of English.

So what does Lucy do? She uses the exact same language that fails utterly to reach her mother-in-law in all previous attempts only… she does it LOUDER.

The network is turning down the president’s request to show his prime-time news conference on Wednesday. The news conference marks Obama’s 100th day in office. Instead of the president, Fox viewers will see an episode of the Tim Roth drama “Lie to Me.”

It’s the first time a broadcast network has refused Obama’s request. This will be the third prime-time news conference in Obama’s presidency. ABC, CBS and NBC are airing it.

This declaration is by far not the first such from Fox in recent months

  43. Vasagi says:

Maybe the author should add that Shimkus also thinks that we should just ignore the issue of global warming, regardless of what leading scientists may or may not say, because God said so. He also said that the dinosaurs were happy with elevated CO2 levels – without really explaining how “dinosaur times” merges with an “inerrant biblical” view.

  44. Winski says:

Let’s see…String Theory requires 11 dimensions to reasonably explain so Bachmann must be shooting for 12-20 ??

Since she clearly CAME from the 14th dimension, Loon-Thought, then maybe she can just stay there?? OR, in her district so she and her pals can just mind-bend each other?? Fixed News will never allow that to happen since they are about to offer her a permanent slot as Glenn Beck’s co-host…That’ll be fun…

Clocks all over the country of Austria are going off uncontrollably at this point…. Cuo-Coo..Cuo-Coo..Cuo-Coo……..

Bachmann is the most irresponsible, lying, wingnut Republican ever– and that’s saying a lot!!– to say she has no idea WHATSOEVER about energy is really slighting her– she has no idea whatsoever about anything. She is a liar, a smearer, and a total idiot. Proof is readily available! Really, I – any many others- truly feel Bachmann is mentally unstable & needs to be hauled away for an assessment. She’s nuts! Republican alert– do not EVER listen to this deranged woman. Yegods, you’re signing your own death warrant if you think she has any intelligence at all. This is an anti-American, an Anti-patriot, hating-the-troops vile woman. Creepy, creepy, creepy. Send her packing. It does not matter if a wingnut is stupid or evil. By trying to keep us guessing which, they seek to paralyze resistance. It just doesn’t matter. They simply must be stopped. Anyone should feel free to use either insult, or both, in the defense of freedom.

Did we reduce our emissions because of prosperity or because:

    1) The economy tanked so we slowed down
    2) We’ve moved all Oh, and looking at the other countries (such as Finland reducing 12%), these countries had already put more emphasis into reduction that we did. So you need to compare the USA 3% to Finland’s 12% PLUS what they have already reduced.
