Doodlebug, if you want to go further consider about the Rumsfeldmeister. Under ethics laws he was required to unload his stock in Gilead. He simply refused and held onto anywhere from $8,000,000 to $39,000,000 in stock during his entire tensure at DOD. The stock, which was priced at $7.45 a share when he went to the Pentagon, ended up at $67.00 a share when he quit in ‘06. During this time the government placed its’ first orders of Tamiflu (which performed poorly in trial runs, by the way) starting at $58 million and then eventually a $1 billion dollar purchase from Gilead. Donny tied the Senate Ethics committee in knots, getting extensions of 3-6 months, which is very rare for some one that high up in the government. Gilead was also successful in getting the government to grant them an “exclusive” patent for AIDS treatment as well.

Of course since none of this has anything to do with $62,000.00 in a land deal in Arkansas, getting some oral sex from an intern, hanging out with an aging ’60’s radical or a slightly over the top pastor I guess there’s rally no scandal so I’m sorry to waste everyone’s time.

On another note. How is it nobody find this crazy. Obama promised to cut earmark spending. And yet in the bill that he just proposed, there are 8 thousand earmarks.

Yes, that is “crazy”, but why is this relevant? And months too late? If anything, you’re just pointing out that earmarking bills is a problem with all of politics, not just Obama. Bachmann herself is guilty of that hypocrisy as well.

And if I recall, even though Obama wanted to cut on the earmarks, didn’t he express his discontent about the fact that so many were inserted into the bill by other politicians?

These aren’t merely gaffes; these are complete blind-faith leaps in logic. These are cases where Bachmann just does not see the forest for the trees.

Whenever a politician says something that’s obviously incorrect, we tend to pounce on it gleefully if that politician is from the “other side”, and defend it if that politician is on our team.

Instead, we should examine what was said and decide if it was the kind of misspeak we are all capable of making at one time or another, or if it shows ignorance on the part of the speaker, or if the speaker is just lying through his/her teeth.

A misspeak is something incorrectly said where we KNOW the speaker knows better. Examples would be Obama saying he’s visited 57 states (we know he meant to say 47, and we also know he knows how many states there are), or Biden claiming that FDR went on television to talk to the American people (we know he meant to say “radio”, and that he knows FDR and television weren’t around at the same time).

Lying through one’s teeth happens a lot, too. When Hillary Clinton claimed she landed in Bosnia in the middle of sniper fire, we know it wasn’t ignorance — she had to have known she didn’t have to take cover from sniper fire upon arrival. But spinning a fanciful tale doesn’t count as a misspeak.

But when Bachmann does her Emily Litella impersonation concerning carbon dioxide or prattles on about re-education camps for children, I figure it’s ignorance at work — coupled with the fact that she probably only gets her briefings from ultra rightwing alarmists who will say anything.

If it was anyone else who tried to make a connection between swine flu outbreaks and who was president at the time, I would chalk it up to desperation. But with Bachmann, I’m starting to think that yes, she really IS this stupid.
