I guess Grassley has a combo of Alzheimer's and Republican obstructionist dysphoria.

...Her interface with agricultural producers has been in developing organic farming standards,

still waiting for the part where she isn't qualified. Yeah, also we don't want community organizers for presidents.

...hardly a place for even outside exposure to mainstream agricultural needs and problems...

aka lobbying from ConAgra.

MapleStreet Says:

Let me make a guess, SECRETARY Merrigan refused to agree with Bachman that CO2 is a good thing ?

Has a uterus + not a good Republican = for women's rights = baby killer.

Never mind that Ag has nothing to do with abortion.

Never mind that abortion is currently not illegal, under the law that exists right now at present.

The Republicans all got a memo that says oppose any Obama apopintee to anything who doesn't want to throw sobbing 18-year old girls in prison who accidentally got knocked up but don't want to end up on welfare. And her name was apparently on that list.

This guy's totally sleepwalking either way. You call this effective "opposition?"

At least when the cross-dressing FBI Hoover made insinutations, he'd name the recipient (I've heard that MLK is a communist, etc.).

Now the insinuations are against anyone fitting the description "What's her name" ?

Well if Brownie (aka Michael D. Brown, ex Bush FEMA director) did a heckuva job during Katria and his only other experience in disaster planning was being counsel to the International Arabian Horse Association, then I'm sure the GOP will have no trouble with Merrigan.

Progressive Republican Says:

The problem with our conservative friends is that they know so much that isn't so.

Except that he doesn't seem to be very clear on what it is that he's supposed to have a problem about, much less who he has the problem with. I guess that'd make it an "unknown known."

If Grassley really had serious concerns about Merrigan, why didn't he raise them at her confirmation hearing? Did he even mention them? Can we get a transcript on this?

This is a serious matter: if he did have concerns, and failed to mention them at her hearing, then he is derelict in his Senatorial responsibility to provide Advice and Consent to the President. If he's only going to complain to the Des Moines Register and not in the hearing room, then he's got no business even being in the Senate.

If I were a conservative, this should piss me off. I mean, as Dems we're used to our reps talking tough to the cameras and then rolling over and playing dead when it counts... but now Republican senators are doing it? From a partisan perspective, all I can say is awesome.

.

barfly Says:

Jason Jones did a hilarious similar schtick on The Daily Show last night:

"John, I'm standing here at the Center of Stuff You Heard from Some Guy, and they say..."

.

Marie Says:

OT
Sebelius was confirmed by the Sente.

Yay, now we have somebody to run HHS! I hope she's ready to hit the ground running, seeing as how there's currently a (hopefully temporary) health crisis already going on.

I get the impression these wingnuts with (R) associated with their names know they must oppose anything the president appoints until the other wingnuts give them the okay. I don't know if they can go to the restroom without permission. What a worthless lot. These guys are drawing a salary paid with our tax dollars.

Sen. Grassley is one of the reasons I left Iowa. He's an "aw shucks" guy a "rock-ribbed republican". He's a bigtime turd farmer from eastern Iowa in reality and a national embarassment to most of us ex-Iowans. The fact he would oppose organic and sustainable farm practises is no surprise as the guy pees Roundup and other farm chemicals. Judge us by Harkin and Obama and not "Ground Chuck".
