Yesterday, after Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) announced he was leaving a Republican Party that he said had “moved far to the right,” ThinkProgress noted that another moderate Republican, Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME), piled on his criticism of the GOP, raising questions about her future in the party. In a New York Times op-ed this morning, Snowe wrote that as a moderate Republican “you often get the distinct feeling that you’re no longer welcome in the tribe.” Seemingly demonstrating her point, Fox News’ new Fox Nation website linked to the op-ed under the headline, “Don’t let the door hit you….”
Looks like Snow will be the next to switch, by her own hand or forced out by the goose-steppers.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:11 pm.
… Because we all know, if you aren’t endorsed by FOXPRAVDA, you aren’t a (R)ushpublickin’.
.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:16 pmSnow is more moderate. The far right folks have taken over her party, and they don’t like her. It’s a shame.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:17 pmCome on over Senator Snowe. Leave the party of Grand Old wingnutcrazies to their own demise. You’ll have a better view from the left. The GOP is going down. I’m waiting for Fake News Network to go down too. These days, I believe anything is possible.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:19 pmWow, that’s one big freedom tent over there on the right! You’re welcome there unless you put one little toe outside the perimeter of it I guess. It’s all group think or else!
April 29th, 2009 at 2:19 pmThis is looking more and more like one of those movies where the survivors in the life raft start throwing other survivors over the edge simply because they’re ‘different’….
April 29th, 2009 at 2:20 pmWhat does the Patsy not understand about “on-topic”?
April 29th, 2009 at 2:21 pmYES! You idiot FauxDumasers! Kick out all the moderates from your ranks! Make sure you have nobody left who isn’t a fatlardcystassed radio commentator or a mushmouthed hasbeen politician(Steele or Gangreenich, take your pick) left in your greasy fold.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:23 pmSmart, independant, beautiful women hitching their wagons to a team of gargoyles only happens on the Sci-Fi channel, Fox News and in the Republican party. I hope she jumps ship becuase there’s lots of progressive males of a certain age who’d like to catch her.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:23 pmThe Republican party’s strategy of kicking everybody out of the Republican party must be a brilliant one, because I sure can’t figure it out.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:24 pmAs the black hole evaporates the particles fly off faster and faster. The very end could be explosively fast.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:24 pmbrothanameoftheday is once again displaying evidence that too much reichwing propaganda makes one schizoidal.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:26 pm“We’re seeing across the country right now that the biggest tent of all is the tent of freedom.”
As long as you act and say exactly as we tell you….
April 29th, 2009 at 2:26 pmIs their freedumb tent at all reminiscent of the Jonestown tent?
April 29th, 2009 at 2:26 pmCan we get Snowe and trade Specter back? :)
April 29th, 2009 at 2:27 pmI used to think the GNOP was playing checkers to Obama’s game of chess, but now I believe they’ve moved on to Chutes and Ladders, or Candy Land.
It’s a three-ring circus inside that Big Tent!
PEACE
April 29th, 2009 at 2:29 pmNext month we’ll probably have one more moderate in our party.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:30 pmOk by me the Republican party can continue to shrink
Remember the Jimmy Stewart movie, “Take Her She’s Mine”? The scene where he’s going to a costume party in Paris, and he runs a hot iron over the seams of his costume to kill the lice. Then, as the scene progresses, parts of his costume start falling off because he burned through all of the threads. Well, that kinda reminds me of the Republican Party right now. They are coming apart at the seams, showing their dirty underwear. It’s almost as funny as the movie, but in sad, tawdry kind of way.

April 29th, 2009 at 2:31 pm“SCOREBOARD!”
American Patsy Says:
Looks like the final score will be “F”.
An “F” on a poll where I just voted five times for an “A”.
On-line polls are highly unreliable and should certainly not be the only thing you can depend on for an argument, let alone a related argument.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:31 pmIf you think they’re losing party members now, just wait ’til that rapture thingy happens!
At least it will mean the end of FuxNews.
PEACE
April 29th, 2009 at 2:33 pmAs the voters of Maine suffer with the Republican and Snowe’s attention only to bring down the President and the US with him, one might think she has problems of her own. She voted against the Stimulus Bill and is seeing how her voters are suffering. Look for many Republican Law Makers who want to help their States now give thought to the idiots that are running the GOP. Boehner with Cow Gas and Bachmann just clear wacko and of course Rush the drggie leading the way. As we have heard one child died in Texas as the Texas Govenor still sticks his head in the sand while the Texas citizen beg for help.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:33 pmSo… is the “FOX Nation” more conservative than the “Fair & Balanced” FOX News Channel? I mean, with a headline like that… not really fair and balanced at all.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:34 pmDr. Hussein Matt Says:
I wouldn’t give the GOPigs that much credit still. I still think they are fumbling getting the wrapper off the banana.
Do you suppose that’s the real reason they are so against condoms?
PEACE
April 29th, 2009 at 2:35 pmLook, it’s simple.
FoxNation obviously wants to secede. So does Texas…right after Perry collects for Swine flu relief and whatever else he can get.
So, we have the Foxers move to Texas, let them secede, elect bush president and Chuck Norris vice president; then we wait while bush brings them ‘democracy.’
They’ll soon be on their knees, waving their little purple fingers for mercy in no time at all…
….the survivors, I mean.

April 29th, 2009 at 2:39 pmDon’t let the door hit you…
Yeah, but maybe they’ve figured out that the door is the submarine’s screen door…
April 29th, 2009 at 2:41 pmSo the online haven for Fox inspired rightwing nuts is trying to drive Senator Snowe away as well? Take my advice Senator Snowe, the further you are away from the insanity of the republican right wing, the better you will feel.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:45 pmThe Kochtopus has risen from dark cold bottom and wrapped its dubious slimy tentacles around the floundering USS GoOPer and throwing non-hive minded crew members overboard…
April 29th, 2009 at 2:48 pmKeep at it fellas!
39 GOP seats on the wall, 39 GOP seats …
April 29th, 2009 at 2:49 pmIf they know there are subliminal microwaves generated from clandestine places how is that clandestine?
April 29th, 2009 at 2:52 pmSoon, all that will be left of the Gas Oil Party will be the 18%rs who align with hallichainy…..
Let’s recall what they did with their first congressional majority in 40 years from 94-06…..
They spent $70 MILLION on 11 bogus investigations of the dem potus, yielding ZERO indictments, and so IMPEACHED our president for a personal matter that was no one’s business….
What signal do you think that sent to the foreign terrorists who attacked the US in Feb 93, not to mention Rudolph/McVeigh types?

No, then we “liberate” their asses. They keep talking secession, I’m going to keep talking Civil War II, the Beatdown.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:52 pmWhat is with the name change to Fox Nation?
Did they finally figure out they do NOT give NEWS?
April 29th, 2009 at 2:58 pmCome on in to the Democratic pool, Ms Snowe, the water’s fine!
April 29th, 2009 at 3:02 pmMaybe the big name change is a secret plan to secede – join Texas.
April 29th, 2009 at 3:03 pmWow. Just — wow. I clicked on Fox Nation and was absolutely amazed. This is easily as blatantly biased as any openly biased blogsite. So what makes it different? I have yet to see ANY television network or ANY cable news network put forth anything on the internet so incredibly one-sided. Not even the MSNBC blogsite. Just running through the headlines, I thought I was sifting through Rush Limbaugh’s site. Geez — even RedState looks far less hysterical by comparison.
Is Fox Nation really part of Fox News? Or the Fox network? Or is this some unauthorized site? If it’s Fox, I don’t see how they can say “fair and balanced” with a straight face.
April 29th, 2009 at 3:04 pmProlly has something to do with Becks “..they surround us but we surround them..” ploy
April 29th, 2009 at 3:04 pmSenator Snow was interviewed on MSNBC this morning by Andrea Mitchell.
She was asked if she would consider switching over to the Democratic side.
She basically said “No” because although she is in the minority in her own party, she wants “them” to get back to their roots and return to being a more moderate party.
However, if she keeps talking like this, she will be shunned even more and will have to switch.
These ultra right Republicans are something else (but I’m not sure what)
April 29th, 2009 at 3:07 pmThe whooshing sound gets louder as the air is being sucked out of the Republic Party and a vacuum begins to form. Suck on that Reptards.
April 29th, 2009 at 3:08 pmThe people at Fox Nation says stuff like they liked Sarah Palin 100% but they hate John McCain 100% and that’s why they Lost. LOL
These people are simply retarded, they want all moderates out of their party
April 29th, 2009 at 3:09 pmWell it is complete the GOP has evolved into the FOX party. It happened even faster than I thought it would.
April 29th, 2009 at 3:12 pmThe rabid crackpot wing of the party continues to hold the moderates silent — giving them the choice of shutting up and marching in step, or leaving.
Shrinking the tent isn’t really smart, but they don’t seem to have figured that out.
The Democrats have a rather diverse party. We have progressives, blue dogs, liberals, civil libertarians, centrists, and even a few old-school southern Democrats who never switched to the GOP. So do progressives think that making blue dogs and conservatives unwelcome in the party is a good thing? Not at all. If we narrowed our ideology down to the extreme left, and challenged all party members to follow it or face “punishment”, we could expect them to leave. And we’d erode like the Wicked Witch of the West in water.
Which is happening to the GOP, but apparently they are oblivious to it.
All they have to do is continue getting all their political advice from Limbaugh to hasten their demise.
April 29th, 2009 at 3:15 pmYes, we’re well aware of that, Archie Habib Lobo Garvin Clown. But congratulations. Admitting your dishonesty is a good first step.

April 29th, 2009 at 3:20 pmFox Nation website linked to the op-ed under the headline, “Don’t let the door hit you….”
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This is what conservatives are telling anyone who doesn’t agree with their agenda, and that includes the majority.
April 29th, 2009 at 3:21 pmI guess the Propaganda Republicans at Fox don’t have a clue that they more they alienate people, the less votes they get….
…it’s a vicious cycle of death for the repukes, which is good for America.
America to Repukes – Hey, repukes, don’t let the door hit ya…
April 29th, 2009 at 3:24 pmGad. Those wingtard folks have *really* been busy pissing in their genepool.
Olympia?? Get the hell out of there!!!!
April 29th, 2009 at 3:28 pmHey, let’s have a party!
We’ll only invite everyone who looks and thinks like we do and we’ll have a lot of fun.
Only 21% came.
Then, one of them came with a date that didn’t look or think exactly like the rest of them, so the party threw them both out.
The people at the party start to ridicule and throw stones at the other 79% because they are apparently not smart enough or aware enough to be at the party.
Then they complain that the party is not well attended.
“Hey, what kind of party is this?”
It’s the Republican Party!!
April 29th, 2009 at 3:29 pmThe homogeneity, already bad enough, is becoming more and more the same.
At this rate, it may be a big tent, but only a small number of people in it,
April 29th, 2009 at 3:34 pmfreedom isn’t free it’s a buck o five.
April 29th, 2009 at 3:38 pmOlympia Snowe is my senator, and she and all her concern for the middle can go to hell as far as I’m concerned. I’d like to know where all this principle was during the time she and her cronies were running the asylum down there. No, she’s not a rubber stamp-far from it-but in the 13 years she’s been in the Senate, I’ve never heard a peep out of her complaining that the party was tacking too far to the right-she voted to confirm right wing loonies Roberts and Alito, thinks the Patriot Act is swell, stood on the same platform and praised that monstrous buffoon Palin, never complained about war opponents being called “anti-American” and never raised ANY serious issues about the consuming of the party by racists, the religious right and anti-tax obsessives (the NEW “basic tenets” of the GOP). Until now. When the GOP is in danger of being marginalized out of existence, she decides to speak up. That’s political expediency, not principle in my book. She could put up with all that intolerance and hate as long as she was in the majority, I guess.
The only reason I welcomed yesterday’s news is that it adds another nail to the coffin of the fascist far right. But I don’t want Arlen Specter as a senator in my Democratic party. Not when I could have Joe Sestak. And I don’t want Olympia Snowe, either.

It seems to be a mix of hysteria, propaganda and general insanity.
April 29th, 2009 at 4:22 pmSen. Collins of Maine just got reelected, so she’s safe for a while. But Sen. Snowe comes up again in the next couple of years.
Mainers are an independent lot. Collins was reelected but Obama got all the electoral votes. I imagine Ms. Snowe is taking a serious look at which way the wind will be blowing in Maine.
April 29th, 2009 at 4:28 pmSeeing how Specter is savaged by the RepoTaliban, and seeing how he will be treated by the Dems might just be the deciding point.
It is official: The GOP has become the party of wingnuts. The three factions are the neo-conservative fascists, the KKK haters, and the religious wingnuts. They do not want anyone who doesn’t believe in destroying the world with military might, who does not hate blacks and gays, or who will tolerate a law that gives a woman the right to make decisions concerning her body herself. It is officially the party of wingnuts.
April 29th, 2009 at 4:31 pmMarnie Says:
I imagine Ms. Snowe is taking a serious look at which way the wind will be blowing in Maine.
Olympia Snowe could sell meth on street corners to ten-year-olds and get caught in bed with Bill Clinton and would still garner 70% of the vote up here. She’s a goddess in this state, and there really are no credible right-wing loonies to run against her.
April 29th, 2009 at 4:37 pmYou know, bipartisanship is taking an interesting form…
2012: Republicans run Mitt Romney; Christian Right runs own candidate. (Rick Warren?). Romney/Palin comes in 3rd.
2014; Family Party (or whatever) picks up 6 seats in House.
2016: Jindalaccepts Republican nomination; Palin switches to Family Party; H.Clintom/J,Schakowski win election; Republican Party comes in 4th, behind Roon Paul; Family party picks up a Senate seat and 16 House seats, all at the expense of Republicans.
2018: Specter, Snow, Collins, Grassley, Bloomberg, Lieberman, Schwarzenegger announce formation of Centrist Party.
2020; Republican Party Convention deadlocked, nominates Glenn Beck; Centrist Party comes in second to Hilary Clinton; third is Huckabee Palin; 4th is Libertarian Party running Matt Perker & Trey Stone; Republcans come in 6th behind Nader (who may not still be alive: 1st Net-only convention.)
2018:
April 29th, 2009 at 4:59 pmSorry for even more typos than usual. That came out extremely quickly.
April 29th, 2009 at 5:00 pmThe GOP, like the North American economy and their two Wars of Agression, are totaly bankrupt…
April 29th, 2009 at 5:51 pmThe GOP is like the people who sit on the roof waiting for Armageddon. After nothing happens, they intensify their faith. Except the GOP keeps trying to drag people back to the roof.

Not idiotic at all. Secession causes civil war. The President is supposed to preserve the Union. It’s perfectly justified, with plenty of historical precedent.
Besides, plenty of people live in Texas who don’t want to secede, and shouldn’t be forced to move. For the secessionists to take that state out of the Union would be tantamount to denying those people their Constitutional rights. We’d just be liberating them from tyranny.

Actually if she got enough of those, she’d have to think about it. It’s one thing to be wooed by party bigwigs, but a grassroots movement…? Just a thought.

April 29th, 2009 at 10:11 pmI wouldn’t let the GOP’s door hit me either. It probably has a giant deadly five-foot-long spike sticking out of it.

It would be nice to see some of these moderate republicans shit or get off the pot. Leaving the party is always an option, but who wants a senator on the rebound? If you don’t like the direction your party is headed, then do something about it! If the Republican Party is being taken over by a bunch of Neo-Nazi-Neanderthals, then stand up and take it back! Democrats should turn these ionic misfits away and leave them politically marooned; they needed to start with the glad-handing, self-serving, whining senator from Pennsylvania, Arlen Specter who still votes republican while claiming to be a democrat. Snowe would be no better. She has had the opportunity to turn away from the freaks in her party for years and hasn’t done so based on principle, so the only reason she’d go Democrat is to save her own hide. Leave her; she’d leave you!
April 30th, 2009 at 8:24 amIt’s hard for 4 reasonable minds to take over the party from 37 goose-stepping colleagues. As for the conversion of “RINOs” into “DINOs,” I say open the door and let them in. You know, the whole “big tent” idea talked about by some former president whose name I forget. Sure, they’ll still vote like Republicans sometimes, but they know they either have to vote with the Democrats on key issues to gain Dem support in the next primary, which is the reason they become Dems and not independents.
