Local GOP cancel speech by Utah’s Republican governor because he’s too moderate.

huntsman4.jpg Joanne Voorhees, the chairwoman of the Kent County Republican party in Michigan, has “abruptly canceled” an upcoming fundraiser with Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, Jr. (R). Voorhees “said that hosting the moderate Utah governor would mean abandoning the party’s conservative principles.” The cancellation comes as Republicans are pushing for a more narrow party focused on hard-right principles. In a new interview with ABC News, Huntsman sharply criticizes the national GOP leadership, giving them an “incomplete” grade on their first 100 days as an opposition party to President Obama. “Instead of just kind of grousing and complaining, it would do us all a whole lot of good if we actually started engaging directly in finding compromises and common ground and shared solutions,” said Hunstman.

How “moderate” could a Repubuke from Utah be?

Pretty soon the only person under the tent will be Becky, under the tent in Rush’s pants.

    – - My brother lives in Utah and confirms that this is a good guy who he could some day vote for for President. He’s a true conservative more than a Republican, which today means you’re a radical nutjob on the right.

  8. Buckie Boy says:

Yessss, the scum sucking repukes are alienating all their moderates….

    …follow Rush or be crushed.

    Fcuk the Republicans

  9. misscoleopteramolly says:

Wow — the governor of the reddest of red states is “too moderate” for the Republicans in Kent County, Michigan?

What did he do? Endorse universal health care? Fight to keep abortion legal? Declare gay marriage legal in Utah? Buy a hybrid car?

Ah — the problem you seem to have with him is that he actually said something sensible and reasonable, specifically, “Instead of just kind of grousing and complaining, it would do us all a whole lot of good if we actually started engaging directly in finding compromises and common ground and shared solutions.”

Apparently favoring working with the opposition party to solve mutual problems is the worst possible sort of heresy.

Well, have fun wallowing in your hatred. I’m sure if you look hard enough, you will find somebody who will spew the venom you so desperately want. Why don’t you see if Michael Savage is doing anything that day?

Holy cripes, the republic party is quickly becoming the Timothy McVeigh Bandwagon, but yet, they think kicking all of the sane & rational members out from under their tiny umbrella is going to be good for them and the party? Bah hahahahahahaaaaaaaa hahahahaha!

The right wing is bat sh*t crazy insane. They’ve lost the ability to think things through at this point.

  15. Chris LeJeune says:

I live in Utah, and Huntsman is extremely popular. I’m pretty far to the left, and I would still vote for him. He is a conservative, but he has done a lot of wonderful things for the state. He has helped to tone down all of the religious rhetoric here and he has openly supported gay rights. If the republican party wants to marginalize someone like Huntsman, they might as well hang it up now.

“The group Campaign for Michigan Families praised the cancellation, attributing it to Huntsman’s support of civil unions…”

These people are the spokespeople to the republican party in Michigan??? If the republicans had any intelligence left they would drop them quick because they probably would not constitute a majority by any means.

  20. raynman says:

It’s a good thing that there’s a Democrat in office right now, because pretty soon the Republicans will be protected under the Endangered Species Act.

  21. spencers butterfly mom says:

This is getting hilarious! How low do the GNOP registration and congressional seat numbers need to go before someone out there sees a “problem” with pushing moderates away?

Not that I’m complaining, mind you.

  23. paleolib says:

I don’t care how forward thinking the guy is. The day the governor of Utah is too liberal to speak to a county Republican gathering anywhere outside perhaps the deepest south is the day the Republicans have to seriously consider whether they even want to be a national party. Maybe it’s time for all of them to “go Gault” and deprive us of their valuable service.

What the hell are the rights priciples? What are they? Besides giving money to those who already have it, and limiting our childrens right to an education, what does the right believe in? If it is small government, why don’t the Repub just resign? That would immediately reduce the size of government. What the hell do they want from us?

Don’t be ridiculous. Gravity would stop him eventually :) Unless, of course, Ms. Bachmann spoke to him. In that case the hot air coming out of her mouth would move the moon out of it’s orbit. Hey maybe she can be a new energy source. I wonder how many lies per gallon she gets?

Or what is better known in Republican circles, the Pat Buchanan.

  31. Xisithrus says:

I see, this is finger pointing gone awry.

Like musical chairs there will soon be only a few finger pointers left vying for the throne of blame.

I wonder if these guys have any clue how much money he is worth. Extraordinary business man his dad.

Huntsman may not be perfect but he’s a pretty smart man and a reasonable one.

Which is why this new right wingnut party doesn’t like him.

  45. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

These people are really amazing. They are becoming irrelevant because of their right wing tilt and they think the answer is to double-down and become even more right wing. Why they think they can win elections with 21% of the electorate is beyond me.

  46. curious says:

Why would anyone want to be part of a party that punishes independent thought? When even an occasional agreement with the other party is considered treason. Why belong to a party that says no to everything? No as a knee jerk reaction to everything. Why belong to a party that demands their ideology, no matter how flawed be your first priority?

When your party and it’s actions come first and not loyalty to what is best for the country. The lock step of anti-everything. It is impossible to feel sorry for this governor.

I haven’t laughed this hard in YEARS! Dang, now they’re dissing the Governor of Utah because he’s too moderate!? Isn’t Utah a Mormon state? Very conservative? Help me understand. They’ve got to stop this! I can’t take more than 2 stupid things a day from these GOPers! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  50. Rascalcat says:

As long as moderate Republicans are treated like this, the Democratic run will continue.

Governor Huntsmann, if you are listening, you would make an extremely sexy Democrat!

Yeah, if a few more moderate Republicans switch parties, maybe they can bring the Democratic party closer to the middle like it used to be. ;)

Yeah, if a few more moderate Republicans switch parties, maybe they can bring the Democratic party closer to the middle like it used to be. ;)

Well, with every major bill the Dems are going to bypass the R’s and/or the R caucus is going to force them to refuse to deal, the upshot is that the R’s don’t get into the meeting where the bill is actually drafted. If you want to get into that meeting, your best shot is as a Dem, even if you’re a Blue dog (or Yellow dog, whatever they’re calling themselves these days).
