Today, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) sent a letter to Judge Jay Bybee inviting him to testify about his “views” about torture and his “role” in drafting the torture memos. “There is significant concern about the legal advice provided by OLC while you were in charge, how that advice came to be generated, the considerations that went into it, and the role played by the White House,” Leahy wrote. “I look forward to your cooperation and your testimony.” Read Leahy’s letter (pdf) here.
Please join our campaign calling on Congress to begin impeachment hearings against Jay Bybee.
He ain’t coming. Just like all the loyal Bushies before him. And what will the democrats incharge do about it??
April 29th, 2009 at 1:08 pmBybee will take his cue from Rove & Meier and not testify citing “permanent executive privilege”.
April 29th, 2009 at 1:09 pmUh, will this be like the rove, cheney, meyer;s stuff.? Have they gone in for their question’s yet.?..I forgot…LOL…Time to hug some trees and walk the Bear…Blessings
April 29th, 2009 at 1:10 pmInvites ?
April 29th, 2009 at 1:11 pmSorry, the precedent has been sent that these people don’t show because they know there are no repurcussions. They don’t care about your letters.
April 29th, 2009 at 1:12 pmit will take a subpoena to get him to even show up. since the justice department is reviewing all the internal emails between those involved in this mess, look for about 20 people to get served when it all goes down.
lets all pray that KKKarl was in on this too. the dems will have zero mercy on him. he will spend his time between taking the fifth in lockup. he has proven himself to be a flight risk already.

and Obama will support his contentions legality in court .
April 29th, 2009 at 1:13 pmthat there alone will be enough to get him kicked off the federal bench.
April 29th, 2009 at 1:13 pmAh yes, “permenent executive privilege”, seriously folks… if what they were doing in those 8 years wasn’t wrong (you know, torture and that whole business)… why did they have to go to great pains to immunize themselves against prosecution?
Perhaps, they might have thought, that it might be wrong, and by golly they’d better protect themselves?
I smell rotting dead elephant.
April 29th, 2009 at 1:14 pmARREST HIM!
April 29th, 2009 at 1:14 pm`When are we going to use FORCE?
Cops: Criminal you’re invited to testify before supreme court

April 29th, 2009 at 1:16 pmThere seems to only be two possibilites here. One, that his cowardice will rise to the surface and preclude him from attending. Or, two, that he does show up (whether by subpoena or on his own) and will recite the tried-and-true Republican criminal mantra of “I don’t recall” about three hundred times in an effort to save his job, his law license, and his own personal freedom.
April 29th, 2009 at 1:16 pmReading the full request by Leahy it looks like someone is hoping to get Bybee to come forward. He doesn’t seem the type to give up the goose but the prospect of prison has a way of changing minds. Like I said, I doubt it. The traitor should at the very least resign though. Does ANYONE reputable hold confidence in this man’s legal opinion?
April 29th, 2009 at 1:17 pmBybee needs to be FORCED to testify. He’s already hired a high profile attorney who is probably going to advise him not to testify.
April 29th, 2009 at 1:17 pmmmm, rotting dead elephant
April 29th, 2009 at 1:18 pmDo not invite
When you could indict!
April 29th, 2009 at 1:19 pmSupporting Bybee will be the invisible ghost that knows everything about everything, that only Bybee can see, hear, and translate for.
April 29th, 2009 at 1:20 pmA delightful stink, eh?
April 29th, 2009 at 1:22 pmWhatever happened to Karl Rove providing testimony?
April 29th, 2009 at 1:22 pmI love the smell of rotting dead elephant in the morning……….it smells like…victory
April 29th, 2009 at 1:26 pmyou silly liberals, have you forgotten that laws do not apply to Republicans?
April 29th, 2009 at 1:27 pmJob one for America is force this guy off the bench. Lawyers who provide legal cover for torture are unfit to serve. If he did it in good faith, he’s incompetent and if he didn’t he’s a criminal. Either way he needs to be publicly shamed.
April 29th, 2009 at 1:30 pmI think we know how he feels about torture, he thinks it’s cool
April 29th, 2009 at 1:31 pmtrooper Says:

They’ve tried that. Bushites wipe their asses with those too. Of course, Bush isn’t around now to order the police not to carry out the consequences of refusing a subpeona…

April 29th, 2009 at 1:34 pm….. Yesterday the ninth circuit court of appeals agreed with your contention , except in this case the lawyers are Obama’s legal team .
oooops…
So Bybee joins Rove, Meiers, George of the Bungle, Dickbreath, John of the Loo and the Scootster on the old game show I’ve Got A Secret. If Leahy does his job they’ll all get the grand prise: a week at Gitmo with waterboarding coupons for free.

Cliff ignorance is amazing
April 29th, 2009 at 1:44 pmOK dems, Specter has raised you to 60 in the Senate. It is time to show some gumption and investigate. If he doesn’t show or has a total case of amnesia, there are legal terms, like obstruction of justice.
April 29th, 2009 at 1:50 pmGetcha snowballs! Snowballs, right here, getcha snowballs!!!
Hey, Satan, gotcha snowball, yet? 3 fera quarter!!
April 29th, 2009 at 1:53 pmGee Senator Leahy, this letter isn’t even sternly worded.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:07 pmDiddo #1 Bybee will not come because of the emails and memos that show he changed his mind because he was asked to. Now the current and future terrorist would love to hear Bybee explain his reasons for torturing of woman and children. That way they can used it when they kidnap American woman and children. Bybee must really dislike his kids because not parent would allow a child to be torture. Now Republicans with Christian Values have already shown us for years they have respect, vaules or morals for woman, so Bybee clear on that point.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:13 pmRight now Bybee’s gotta be planning on how to get the R’s to find a better scapegoat. The first one to step up to the chopping block is usually the last.
.
MapleStreet Says:
OK dems, Specter has raised you to 60 in the Senate.
Still gotta shake Coleman off of humping Franken’s leg.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:23 pmI guess Bybee is being given a chance here, to show us if he’s an American or a Buschstani.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:29 pmApe-man says:
We already know the answer to that.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:41 pmLike all the War Criminals of the World, Bybee is a coward and will not come freely.
April 29th, 2009 at 5:54 pm“Leaky Leahy” is the last person who should ever question another person on anything…after he cost so many lives…because he couldn’t keep his big fat mouth shut!
