Americans feel less ‘positive’ about Bush since he left office.

In January 2009, just as former President George W. Bush was leaving office, the Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll found that 31 percent of Americans viewed him somewhat or very positively. In their latest poll, positive views of Bush have dropped to just 26 percent. In roughly the same time period, positive views of former Vice President Cheney dropped from 21 percent to 18 percent.

I don’t feel less ‘positive’ about Bush, because I NEVER felt anything ‘positive’ about the POS to begin with.

  2. Mugsy says:

Their legacy has been written: Terrorism, war, debt, record job loss, economic devastation, and pushing the Democrats to a Super-Majority.

Spin all you want, Rove. History has ruled its judgment.

  3. thomas mc says:

Yeah, some people still like Hitler, too.

  4. DRxJapanese Beetle says:

Yes, allowing torture, completely against the Geneva Convention, will do that to you.

  5. spencers butterfly mom says:

But think of how high those numbers will jump after that lieberry gits opened!

The only positive thing I can say about Bush since leaving office is that he’s managed to sit down and shut up. Sadly, the same cannot be said about Rove and Cheney.

    PEACE

  6. A Patriotic Anopheles Acting says:

Kristol, Kraphammer, Shit Blossom, Bolton and all the other neocons who are doing their collective part as “good soldiers” working on Bush’s legacy better kick it up a notch ’cause his numbers are clearly deteriorating as time marches on. What will Bush and Cheney’s approval ratings look like after war crimes convictions?

  7. Art says:

Yeah! I’m positive they were both incompetent and dangerous. Just look at what they’ve done to the republican party.

  8. DNFP says:

The only positive thing I can say about Bush since leaving office is that he’s managed to sit down and shut up

Because he never wanted to be POTUS, fact.

  9. hormiga brava chavez says:

I’m not surprised. The 26% probably live in Texas.

  10. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

And people who called themselves Republicans dropped 4% and people who approve of the Republicans in Congress dropped 8%. I’m seeing a trend here.

  11. joe cantwell says:

    :::

    president.

    ever.

    i’m very positive about that.

  12. hanshiro the antlion says:

Less popular as more and more of the truth about his secretive, illegal shenanigans seeps out. An investigation would doubtless knock that number into the single digits.

    Let’s see….

  13. wags says:

That’s weird. I view it as positive that he is gone.

That’s what the poll was asking, right?

    Right?

  14. Marie says:

Some people needed a “heckuva” lot of time to come to their senses – 26% still need more time!!

The more that the realization of the disaster they wrought on the nation the more those numbers will drop — even for those 26%.

  15. tombaker says:

2 more years and he’ll be less favorably viewed than the herpes virus.

  16. krystalview says:

    26% views him positively????
WOW! That’s an appalingly high number! I guess there’s no denying the lower IQ of people in red states now!!! Specially Texas!

  17. freeman says:

Bush still maintains support of the 26% that have yet to learn of what was actually done to the country during his tenure . Moderates , fiscal conservatives and libertarians will bolt to make room for white supremacists ,religious fanatics and assault weapons collectors .
    RIP GOP .

  18. Jackie says:

As more of the secret crimes come to light the numbers will drop much much lower. Bush is said to be depressed and that happens to a person who has done so much evil. Cheney is wheeleing his his wheele chair fighting to keep his secrets and hoping those loyal to him will do the same.

  19. freeman says:

The democrats , with the addition of Arlen Specter and the seemingly inevitable seating of Al Franken ,are also losing something here . Political cover has vanished !
Ignore the wishes of the progressive constituency at your own peril !

  20. Uncle Ho says:

    Jackie says:

Sorry Jackie, I don’t believe for one microsecond chimpy is the LEAST bit depressed. He is completely amoral, and an evil monster.

  21. konchster says:

Bushies will go to their grave believing all the BS that was put out there as justification of the wrong doing. I won’t list all of them cause commenters here have been at the point of the spear in dispelling it on a daily basis

  22. PFWoody488 says:

    God still talks to him.
    Therefore he has no regrets.
Americans require that their politicians believe in a magical sky daddy, or at least claim to.
Bush is the result of electing people with delusional fantasies.
Reason and logic = Sane decisions.
If people would keep that in mind when voting, the world would be a much better place for everyone.

  23. Rich H says:

After Bush and Cheney get conviceted it will be hard to find anyone who will admit to voting for them.

  24. ukeman123 says:

Oh geee; what a SURPRISE!!! this guy was POTUS for 8 years, and NOW you don’t like him??????
shows how this country can be woefully unaware, and backward. POTUS 8 years.
    doh

  25. Carol A says:

I’m sure that there were Holocaust apologists, and excusers, as well as Holocaust deniers, just as there are torture apologists, excusers, and deniers. Once the torture photos are released, the polls showing Americans split 50/50 on torture will change. Outrage against torture will rise, in spite of John McCain’s claims that the photos will jeopardize our troops, American tourists, and our national security. His call for the Bush/Cheney crimes to be swept under the rug is the height of hypocracy.

  26. MapleStreet says:

31 to 26 percent. That 5 percent is rougly 15% of the folks who viewed him positively have jumped ship as he moved from prez to history.

At this rate, his rating in history is gonna be less than zero.

  27. ElBruce says:

    History is being the judge…

Don’t hold your breath that the polls are going to change as long as they call it “enhanced interrogation” in the poll question. I’m quite sure if they called it “torture”, the numbers would be different.

“Reason and logic = Sane decisions.”

Reason and logic are necessary, but not sufficient. “Reason and logic” brought us decades of “mutually assured destruction.” “Reason and logic” brought us CDOs, MBOs, and CDSs.
Something like experience and wisdom, plus some form of ethical, moral judgement, and also simple human decency, are all called for as well — or you wind up doing something like losing 50k Americans and killing millions of people, many of them utterly innocent of anything, in Viet Nam.
