Conservative talker suspended after blaming swine flu on the ‘millions of leeches’ from Mexico.
Conservative talker Jay Severin was suspended indefinitely today by Boston’s WTKK-FM after using the current swine flu outbreak to attack Mexicans and immigrants. On his radio show, Severin blamed the swine flu on what he called “some of the world’s lowest of primitives in poor Mexico”:
So now in addition to venereal disease and the other leading exports of Mexico — women with mustaches and VD — now we have swine flu. … We should be if anything surprised that Mexico has not visited upon us poxes of more various and serious types considering the number of cimminalieans already here. [...]
[W]hen scoop up some of the world’s lowest of primitives in poor Mexico and drop it down in the middle of the United States. Poor, without skills, without language, not share our culture, not share our hygiene. … It’s millions of leeches from a primitive country. … Now they are exporting a rather more active form of disease which is the swine flu.

This wasn’t censorship, Proud. He said it, and it was aired. He had the right to say it, and the radio network aired it.
But there is also something called common courtesy. What is a radio network to do if they get their phone lines flooded with angry listeners? Like CFP said, this is a local show, not a syndicated radio show, so they depend much more on their listeners in a certain market. Threats to boycott the show would hurt the radio station more than those who would threaten to boycott Rush, Hannity, or Beck.
Is this a left-wing/right-wing issue? Frankly, if I was of Mexican descent, I would be outraged, regardless of my views or political affiliation.

No ones dying from this flu. A small handful of people.
Meanwhile, 36,000 people are dying from regular flu and no ones panicking about that.

Years ago I had a real estate investor as a client, I was a building contractor who did repairs and upgrades, etc. The “immigrants” from south of the border were by far the filthiest of all of the tenants. I charged him double for working on those particular properties it was so disgusting. In and out.
Your landlord guy sounds more like a slumlord who could care less of these people in the first place. If he’d screen his tenants before renting or maybe do some neighborhood DUEDILLIGENCE, he/she wouldn’t have this problem! I too work with investors who buy rental properties. If they have a problem with a tenant or a neighbor complains, corrective action is implemented quickly and efficiently. Problems exist because lazy bigots are too wrapped up with counting their money. So sad that it’s easier to spew hate than to help someone become a better person.

“A large percentage of the military population is sexually active young adults,” said Bill Calvert, chairman of the DoD’s STD Prevention Committee. “With 333 million new cases of STDs globally and 15.3 million new cases in the United States each year, our service members are certainly at risk for exposure to STDs.”
Calvert said younger adults are at higher risk of being exposed to STDs, placing the military population at higher risk than the general public — two to five times higher, according to the Navy Environmental Center, Norfolk, Va., in its recent paper on condom availability in the Navy and Marine Corps. “In time of military conflict the difference can be 50 times higher or more,” the report said.
“Service members need to be reminded there are risks here at home as well,” he said. “I think we scare the daylights out of our service members in foreign ports and countries, but they think they’re safe at home. Yet the U.S. has the highest rates of STDs among developed countries.” Public health officials have estimated STD infection rates in the United States to be up to 100 times higher than in other industrialized nations.

Scientifically, the flu virus is going to be either dead or incapable of transmission after the body ceases to function.
Economically, pretty much no one buys animals to eat if they don’t know how they died and have reason to think the death was not by normal means. Would you?
Culturally, people feel more comfortable acquiring, preparing, and eating foods in the manner in which they have been raised.
Practically, in traditional societies using traditional technologies, securing your food animals alive is the most effective way of ensuring that it is fit to eat, undiseased, undamaged, and not rotten or infested/infected by vermin.
