Yesterday, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) took to the House floor for an hour-long speech consisting of tired denunciations of Obama shaking hands with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and more hysterical complaints about how new hate crime legislation protects gays. During his tirade, King decided to direct part of his vitriol at the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, calling both organizations “separatist groups.” Watch it:
The term “separatist” is an inference for anti-American or terrorist activities. Given King’s history of racially charged statements, it is no wonder he chose to attack the two major minority caucuses as too exclusive, rather than, for example, the evangelical Congressional Prayer Caucus.
Amen!!!!!!!!!!! Should we have a white caucus, too?
May 1st, 2009 at 4:54 pmSpelling typo in the headline — “seperatist” sb “separatist”
May 1st, 2009 at 4:54 pmHe must have confused them for the Texas governor.
May 1st, 2009 at 4:54 pmDear Lord, King is one of the nuttier righties. He’s an embarrassment. Much like Bachman.

Fcuk the Republicans
May 1st, 2009 at 5:00 pmWaitaminnit — how come the Congressional Hispanic Caucus is separatist and the Congressional Hispanic Conference is not? Besides the fact that the former is composed of Democrats and the latter is composed of Republicans?
And how come the Black and Hispanic caucuses are separatist and the Asian caucus is not? Besides the fact that the Asian caucus contains some Republicans?
Representative King is a mound of sh!t in an extremely transparent container.
May 1st, 2009 at 5:01 pmSo it turns out the inclusion of the Hispanic Caucus in that ad was entirely intentional. Big surprise.

May 1st, 2009 at 5:03 pmIt appears that Rep. King wants all non-whites to seek admission to the white race, and wants them to erase any identification with their own ethnic group.

May 1st, 2009 at 6:23 pmWell, it’s fun to see them stuffed and mounted, and most certainly deserve it, but I get the sense that crippling psychological and emotional issues drive these trolls more than any political convictions. Increasingly, I’m of the mind that a little more moderation is all that’s needed, quicker flagging and quicker responses to those flags. This would be merciful to the poor trolls, who are frittering away vast amounts of time in a desperate cry for negative attention, instead of dealing with the real (and potentially quite serious) problems going on in their lives.
May 1st, 2009 at 6:30 pmBut why flag them? Unless for threats and profanity I see no reason to stifle free speech in a progressive blog.
I think we’re too swift sometimes on the flag button and not swift enough on the responses.
Flagging them says we can’t handle them and we all know that’s not the case.
May 1st, 2009 at 6:36 pmFree speech? Puleeze. Trolls are not a free speech issue anymore than hecklers at a show or obnoxious drunks in a bar. We’re here as guests, not citizens of the Republic of Think Progress.
May 1st, 2009 at 6:50 pmRacist comments get flagged regardless. That garbage has no business being here (or anywhere for that matter).
May 1st, 2009 at 6:56 pmThey’re not difficult to handle, I agree, and I respect where you’re coming from, but with the trolls who are clearly here to disrupt, I wonder if the downside outweighs the upside.
There’s the satisfaction that comes from pointing out the errors in a troll’s argument, and there’s desire to allow everyone the chance to make themselves heard–I can see the value in each, but weighed against the possibility that these exchanges may be encouraging the obsessions of the mentally ill, I’m not sure which wins out. For me, at least. I’m increasingly conflicted about it.

Losers always cry
What are the terms of use?
You call them all sorts of names RHF. You use insults constantly, all caps. Some people challenge them.
So what terms of are we talking about?
If they’re not threatening anyone and they’re not using profanity then where do we draw the line?
I err to the side of free speech and free speech doesn’t mean just stuff I like. Sometimes tolerating free speech means listening to words that make your blood boil.
What’s the old saying? I may hate what you say but I’d die defending your right to say it?
I realize this is a blog but it’s also a public environment where anyone can post who fills out an account and follows the general rules. And the general rules don’t include saying things that we approve of. If a troll comes in and says the “N” word, that’s one thing. But if a troll comes in and agrees with a comment that we feel is racist, how is that not free speech?
The Supreme Court says it is.
Go to any republican blog and you’ll find free speech is stifled and little dissent is tolerated.
Seems to me we’d want to set an example that was just as far from that sort of totalitarianism as possible.
Flagging every troll that comes in and says things we don’t like seems to me to be the way of the Neocon, and not very progressive.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:43 pmTroll says things you don’t like, you call them names.
Then they call you names.
What’s the difference?
Why is your name calling any superior to theirs?
One thing I’ve noticed is that some in here go immediately to name calling, insults, etc. Not on the right, but on the left. I do it too sometimes. So why is our name calling, superior to theirs?
Why can we mock their “erectile dysfunction” simply because they said something we didn’t like?
How is a troll voicing his nonsense opinion any worse that you mocking his “erectile dysfunction”?
Someone please, explain the difference to me.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:48 pmWAYNEBRO Says:
I for one don’t mind them a bit.
I find it helps to hear what ones enemy is thinking, and what arguments they are making, not to mention it adds to the flavor, diversity, and dynamics of a lively blog.
Well, there are “trolls” and there are “trolls.” Here at TP it’s common practice to refer to any right-winger who engages us as a “troll,” but that’s not entirely accurate – they’re presenting the oppositional opinion. Which is great. They’re the people I like to debate with, because they stick to their guns and come back with challenges and argumentation. It’s not always very good argumentation, but at least they keep trying. This in turn helps me to clarify my position by defending it and thinking of new lines of attack on theirs. Which is the whole point.
But the people who aren’t really here to defend right-wing positions or to attack left-wing positions, the people who are just here to make waves and dance around crying “look at me! look at me!” are a waste of our time. Because they don’t actually defend the right-wing positions they throw out, they just throw them out there in order to get attention. As soon as they start to get the attention they seek, they derail the topic to themselves, and stop trying to argue actual conservative positions.
These are a waste of time.
Now, I loathe me some wingnuts. I’m about this close to agreeing with the craziest evangelicals that minions of Satan have been placed on the Earth to take over the government and create Hell on Earth – with only the addendum that said minions are right-wingers, including many evangelicals. I can insult wingnuts all day long for the vile and disgusting things they believe.
But real trolls? They’re even lower than that; they’re like nothing to me. Rocks. Asphalt. Air. I just try to see past them to find something worth talking to. If their positions don’t matter to them, I see no reason why they should matter to me. They just clog up the discussion and take up unneccessary space.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:48 pmIn general I have a no flagging policy and I am a principled person so can ya all help me out and violate the free speech right to act like a d ouche so we can see the big bad techie shut down this site? I realize that they can’t but it will be funny to rub their lame inability to do anything but scream out loser in need of attention to them yet again… Flagg away and when their comments disappear do not be alarmed when the site remains active and operating normally.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:48 pmSo ignore them then.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:50 pmLosers always cry
May 1st, 2009 at 7:50 pm—
Wanna talk about that? I think you will avoid and obfuscate because you are incapable. Shall I make you my first falg so you can shut things down. Come on loser show us you power…
You mean like calling them names and mocking their erectile dysfunction in all caps?
That sort of harassment?
May 1st, 2009 at 7:52 pmSee?
How is you talking to me like that in ANY way superior to a troll?
I said nothing to deserve that from you. And now you’re “harassing” me because you don’t like my opinion.
Seems you just “harassed” me but you don’t see me running for the “Flag” button.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:54 pmIn fact, you not only harassed me but you used profanity.
Isn’t that a violation of TP’s terms?
Why should your comment stand?
Seems to me we talk a good game about democracy, liberal values, progressive values, free speech, openness and inclusiveness, etc, but when it comes to tolerating dissenting opinions we demonstrate no such values.
Its not enough to talk about freedom, diversity of opinion, etc.
You have to actually do it for it to mean anything.
May 1st, 2009 at 7:57 pmSee?
Dare to differ and suddenly I’m a concern troll or sockpuppet.
Well since you want to go there, I could say that you, with your constant all caps bellicosity, your rabid profane filled rants and non stop insults that you could be some sort of “moron troll” intended to make liberals and progressives look narrow minded and dull witted.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:00 pmWAYNEBRO Says:
But why flag them? Unless for threats and profanity I see no reason to stifle free speech in a progressive blog.
How about for spamming. When one particular troll has posted 10-15 posts that have nothing to do with the subject at hand, that’s spamming. Personally I get really tired of it.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:02 pmAs usual RHF, you’re too dull witted to read what I wrote.
I’m not the little sissy that runs for the flag button every time someone says something I don’t like.
That would be you.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:08 pmAnd calling me a concern troll won’t change anything.
Everyone knows I am no support of the right, and no concern troll.
I’m just saying that it doesn’t do anything for our cause to silence and stifle the free exchange of ideas.
If the troll’s being redundant just ignore him. Who cares? TP worried about space on their servers or something?
So what if a right winger posts nonsense.
Just makes the right wing look stupider than they already do.
But we don’t need to be like them, and silence dissenting voices, no matter how abrasive or caustic they may be.
People like you RHF, I know will never see that. Probably because secretly you’re a right winger pretending to be a progressive just to make progressives look stupid.
And even if you aren’t, the end result is still the same.

Flagging is what you DO to sad, pathetic attention seeking trolls like you. It does work as you well know. Somewhere between 20 and 50 of your posts have disappeared in the last few days. You have been banned at leat three times and have to change your name. No one respects you or takes you seriously. You dont do anything except show what a stupid, pathetic and worthless waste of life you are. Yeah flagging works. You will be gone again soon.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:14 pmThis is proof that if you aren’t white, old, and “Christian” you aren’t American.
*Note* I say Christian and quotations because if you actually read Jesus’ teachings then you would see hate and bigotry were not part of them.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:16 pmAgain your brain fails you.
Scroll up, and find the comment where I said I did not participate in it myself.
While you’re scrolling, you might pause on the one where I admitted I did.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:22 pmIf the threads looked like this when I first came to TP, I doubt that I would have hung around. Watching Whack-a-troll was fun for me when I saw it being played with apparent freepers during a presidential campaign—there were some hilarious threads. When threads are being dominated by sheer anti-social madness it isn’t so funny. Not that fun can’t be had with it. Nevertheless, I’d like to see the malicious trolls removed asap.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:22 pmI didn’t tell anyone to sit down and shut up.
Now you’re doing what you always do when your brain finds your mouth has talked you into a corner.
Lying.
I said we should not silence dissent like the right wing blogs do.
Try reading next time.
May 1st, 2009 at 8:23 pmSo much for the 1st Amendment and the diversity of progressive blogs, ay?
May 1st, 2009 at 8:26 pmOh knock it off. No one here thinks I am brothabill or even friendly with brotha bill.

May 1st, 2009 at 9:10 pmI’ve not only read it wiley, I’ve posted it in here many times over the years.
And it’s not just about the idea of freedom of speech as a law.
It’s about freedom of speech as a principal.
Neoconservatives stifle free speech.
When I first came into this blog back in 2005 everyone in here talked about how open we were compared to the right wing blogs. Blogging was newer back then, and we prided ourselves on the openness and diversity of opinion tolerated in left wing blogs as opposed to right wing blogs.
But now, that we’ve won a few elections, it seems we are slowly but determinedly becoming that which we hated.

May 1st, 2009 at 9:33 pmAll I’m saying and all I said is we don’t need to silence every dissenting opinion that won’t bow to the will of the room.
When troll’s come in, debate them, ignore them, mock them, but we shouldn’t “silence” them.
Unless they are threatening someone physically or using extreme profanity, who cares? It’s a blog. We’re not saving lives here.
It’s fun to see the trolls logic exposed in the light of day by reasonable and learned people. And it’s fun helping to expose them. That’s why many people come in in fact, myself included. We can find an “echo chamber” anywhere. Right wing blogs for example.
So why be like them?
This stuff about the trolls “distracting from the threads” is nonsense. I’ve seen most of the “regulars” in here spend hours talking about off topic minutia and no one complains about that. It’s a blog. We’re not saving lives here.
If we can’t have fun then what’s the point?
And if we can’t be as diverse and accepting of dissent as we claim to be then what’s the point?
We criticized the right for years for their lack of willingness to tolerate dissenting opinion and now that we’re on top we’re ’starting’ to sound just like them.
I think free speech is a more than any law or rule. I think it’s an inherent right of any free people. And free speech means listening to not just the words we like.
It means letting every opinion be not only heard, but defended.

WAYNEBRO Says:
So ignore them then.
It’s getting to the point where ignoring them means ignoring TP entirely. I click into a thread with over 100 comments, I’d like it if more than 1 out of 10 of those comments were on-topic. But when the trolls are gathering a fan club of a dozen people piling on to throw insults at them, and nobody’s even arguing about the topic, it’s too much of a pain in the ass to pick through and only read the few that are.
I realize that complaining about them is basically getting trolled by proxy, but hopefully if more people grok my point, more people will ignore them and they’ll get bored and wander off to find somewhere more interesting. That can leave us to focus on debating the real right-wingers that remain.
.
republicans hate facts Says:
How about THIS?
Post any content to the Blog that is unlawful, racist, hateful, libelous, defamatory, obscene, or that intentionally discriminates against or harasses particular individuals or groups.
Ha haa, you get pretty hateful and defamatory yourself there…
.
WAYNEBRO Says:
All I’m saying and all I said is we don’t need to silence every dissenting opinion that won’t bow to the will of the room.
Absolutely. Flagging shouldn’t be used for right-wingers presenting conservative views, no matter how hateful those views may be. Flagging should be reserved for people who are clogging honest debate with fake posturing, spam ads and the like.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:09 pmWell I’d like it if more than 1 out of 10 of these comments were about how good looking everyone thought I was.
But what does what “I’d like” and what you’d “Like” have anything to do with peoples rights to say what they want?
I’ve seen most of the “regulars” in here spend dozens of comments on nothing but personal minutia. I’ve seen people talk about parties, exams, dating, drinking, sex, their mothers cat, and about a billion other off topic trivia.
And no one complains.
Many of these people are ones complaining about the trolls here tonight, “distracting the thread”.
It’s a blog. People debate the topic and sometimes those debates take turns off topic. We don’t need “topic police” to control the conversations.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:18 pmWe’re obviously talking about a special case of someone who posts nothing but garbage. I’m more concerned with the dangers of liberals being too open minded to take their own side in an argument than with liberals developing lock-step group-think. I’m not recommending that we flag everyone who disagrees. I would like to continue doing what we’ve been doing, just getting a quicker clean up when a malicious troll sh*ts on the thread.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:22 pmWell if you’re accusing this American of “Fake Posturing” over my avid and life long belief in free speech, then you’re wrong.
I’ve always advocated free speech and condemned “flagging” of anything other than threats and extreme profanity. Otherwise everyone has a scroll button.
If you’re saying that free speech is such a trivial matter as to be subjected to your inconvenience of having to scroll through the comments you don’t like, then we have nothing.
Free speech is a liberal and progressive principal first and last and we should never even approach the idea of censorship except in the most extreme of circumstances.
Otherwise what difference is there between us, or you, and the Neocons?
May 1st, 2009 at 10:23 pmWell that sounds more reasonable than some of the arguments I’ve heard tonight. I still however am uncomfortable with censorship in any form except in the most extreme of circumstances.
Besides.
Don’t you think new bloggers, and “silent bloggers” who visit this site might benefit by seeing what republicans and neocons are really like, and what they really think in all its glory?
If if that glory consists of a bunch of mindless juvenile tripe?
That mindless tripe makes the reasoned arguments of the progressive bloggers look so much more sound.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:26 pmThere’s definitely a demarcation point to free speech.
For example, this clown on the radio using racist speech from his pulpit. The station fired him because those are not views the station wants to hold.
But in here, it’s just a blog. And the best thing about ThinkProgress is the open debates and bruhaha’s with the trolls.
It’s one of the things that helped this blog grow.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:31 pmMay 1st, 2009 at 10:44 pm
WAYNEBRO Says:

Oh dear Lord, this isn’t a country. It’s a blog. A blog for a political group. It serves a particular purpose. Relevant discussion means discussing relevant political topics.
It’s not a be-all end-all omni-discussion about whatever, and having some minimal enforcement to keep it on its purpose doesn’t prevent other people for being able to have their discussions anywhere else they want on the big, wide Internet.
There’s a huge difference between free speech as a political principle and applying it to everything all the time everywhere.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:47 pmOh dear Lord, I know.
And you’d know I know if you read the half dozen comments I’ve made in the last 15 minutes where I repeatedly stated “THIS IS A BLOG”.
:|
And it’s supposed to be a blog about Progressive and Liberal ideals like liberty, truth, and FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:52 pmWell that’s not what happens. Most of the “regulars” in here spend their time talking about all sorts of stuff as I pointed out so clearly 20 minutes ago.
It seems the “omni-discussion” about “whatever” is tolerated fine as long as it’s coming from the left.
But when a dissenting troll comes in and stirs things up, out comes the “Flag” em calls.
Do you have any idea what that looks like? How can you not know what that looks like?
Censorship and authoritarianism.
That’s what it looks like.
And when you start tolerating that, what you have left, is an echo chamber. Which is not a progressive principal at all.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:56 pmAnd by the way, this “blog” is IN a country.
Our country.
And the principal of freedom of speech I was not aware was suspended in online blogs dedicated to open political discourse.
May 1st, 2009 at 10:58 pmExcept perhaps in Neoconservative blogs, where dissenting opinions are routinely silenced.
May 1st, 2009 at 11:02 pmIt’s only authoritarianism if there’s an authority involved. Mob rule is not the same thing.
May 1st, 2009 at 11:32 pmMay 1st, 2009 at 11:37 pm
Do what you guys want. Censor if you want. If you don’t see the problem with “flag em” every time a troll takes you out for a ride, then fine. Do it. I can’t stop you.
But if you want my recommendation, Think “Progress”.

Even if they’re not ashamed of their racism and hatred, you’d think they could figure out the pragmatic effects.
May 2nd, 2009 at 12:48 amI do stand up to hate speech. That’s what confronting it is about.
You however run from it every time you censor it with your little “flag button”.
May 2nd, 2009 at 12:49 amI thought it was the WASPs in Texas who were saying that they were leaving the union.
May 2nd, 2009 at 12:50 amYeah. I was looking up internal migration to see if I could get a fix on the demographics of people moving to southern states. Couldn’t find anything comprehensive, but there were a lot of articles about black migrating to the south describing the phenomenon as a reversal of the “Great Migration”. One article mentioned that educated black women made up a lot of the African-American demographic that is moving south. Sounds like Democrats to me.
May 2nd, 2009 at 12:58 amFor all your claims of the trolls “ruining the thread”, what really makes the threads embarrassing and foolish is when you come in with your all caps rage, your juvenile high school calling people “p$ssy” and other childish profanities.
You’re a joke. And you’re the reason more moderates don’t come over.
You’re a lunatic.
May 2nd, 2009 at 12:59 amWhenever anyone disagrees with you you call them foul profane names, then label them republican trolls.
Which is laughable.
I’ve blogged against the republicans for years in this and other blogs, and anyone who knows me or reads any of my comments knows you’re full of crap.
If there’s a troll in this conversation, it’s you.
Because you make the left look like a bunch of raving profane lunatics, which if I were a right winger wanting to hurt the image of the left, would be the way I’d go to embarrass them.
Just pretend to be a progressive or a liberal and babble the mindless nonsense you’ve babbled in here for years, and hope no one notices what a profane ignorant lunatic you actually are.
You embarrass this blog, and where you find the hubris to suggest ANYONE’S comments are hurting the blog when yours are the worst in here, is laughable.
May 2nd, 2009 at 1:06 amAnd why you think a “trolls” comments should be removed and banned yet your profane, juvenile idiotic rants should stand, is a monument to your monumental stupidity.

May 2nd, 2009 at 1:38 amAnd if you’re stupid enough to think I’m “brothabill”, you might want to go back to the thread from last night, where I was debating brothabill and you were “helping” me.
:|
Though I’d rather get by without your “help”.
May 2nd, 2009 at 1:40 amReally?
Well you accused me of that earlier and I asked you to prove it, by simply reposting the comment where I told you or anyone to “shut up”.
And yet you’ve yet to produce that comment you keep claiming I made.

Wonder why?
May 2nd, 2009 at 1:41 amOh yea.
:|
Because I never said it.
May 2nd, 2009 at 1:42 amNo moron, what it is is you advocating censorship, and me advocating “progressive” values.
Censorship is a NEOCON value.
Freedom of Speech is a Progressive value.
You’re defending Censorship.
I’m opposing it.
May 2nd, 2009 at 1:45 amNow, please produce the comment where I told you to “shut up”.
Either produce it, or admit to being caught lying.
May 2nd, 2009 at 1:45 amFine.

May 2nd, 2009 at 1:56 amOf course, I wouldn’t necessarily call a coward hiding behind a keyboard calling people “p*ssy” “bullying”.
More like just juvenile blather.
May 2nd, 2009 at 1:57 amWAYNEBRO –
I have the right to explain why people should ignore posts from who merely “troll,” rather than offer substantive opinion.
What it boils down to is we are disagreeing. But we’re both talking. Talking about the trolls.
I recommend that people make things less fun for true trolls.
You seem to be defending trolling.
May 2nd, 2009 at 1:58 amHow is saying that every voice having a right to be heard “defending trolling”?
May 2nd, 2009 at 2:05 amAnd when did censorship become a “progressive value”?
May 2nd, 2009 at 2:06 amNo, you’re talking about trolls.
I’m talking about censorship.
May 2nd, 2009 at 2:06 amOf course you do. And I never suggested otherwise.
Which part of “free speech for ALL” is so elusive to you?
And “ignoring” them was never something I objected to.
:|
In fact, go back and read my comments again, because apparently you “ignored” where I suggested that you “ignore them”.
May 2nd, 2009 at 2:09 amWAYNEBRO Says:
In fact, go back and read my comments again, because apparently you “ignored” where I suggested that you “ignore them”.
Ah, but you spending a comment to tell me I should not ignore them is not ignoring them. At least, it’s not ignoring the issue.
I decided that me ignoring them was not enough. I wanted to implore others to do so as well. This was the gist of my response.
May 2nd, 2009 at 2:53 amYou said you had the “I have the right to explain why people should ignore posts from who merely “troll,” rather than offer substantive opinion”
I never suggested otherwise.
So I don’t see what your point is.
My comments opposed censorship.
I agree ignoring them is a good thing. And since I’m against censorship why would you state that you have a “right” to propose ignoring them?
I never said you didn’t.
In fact I said you did.
May 2nd, 2009 at 2:59 amActually let me rephrase that.
I “agree” ignoring them is a perfectly viable response.
I prefer confronting them and confounding their logic.
But ignoring them works too.
May 2nd, 2009 at 3:00 amYou however stated that I appeared to be defending trolling.
None of my comments did anything of the sort.
All my comments were and are condemning the concept of censorship.

May 2nd, 2009 at 4:13 amI was just happy to know that we looked different so that we could tell each other apart. I think we should return to segregation and put all of the racist white people in their own state. We can give them one we don’t love – maybe a desert state – then they won’t have to pay taxes, won’t be entitled to volcano study, or tamiflu, no “states of emergency”, if your levee breaks, thats on you…and let’s just see what kind of little society they make. Just a suggestion

EVERYBODY IN EVERY STATE: We’re coming up on a ‘10 year, which means census time. That means that your stare redraws its congressional districts thereafter. Pay attention to who your state rep is. Let them know you won’t stand for any gerrymandering or similar crap. Population density should be the only consideration.
This is one of the most important basic “haxx” to democracy. Let’s make sure we’re keeping an eye out for it this decade, and holding our state officials responsible, and making sure they know about that.
Ever wonder why Texas is so f**ked? Because they managed to draw the districts so that 51% of the areas had a 51% Republican majority. It’s not that everybody in the state is crazy, it’s that they let those bastards get away with it once. And once was all it took.

I’m a very nice white person. Please don’t make me live with them.
My proposal is this: all of the people who believe in unfettered markets, a strong military, a unitary executive, corporate freedom and such can get together, pool some money, and buy a big plot of land in South America. There are probably some countries down there who would be willing to sell for pennies on the acre. They can create their own country then, exactly the way they want it. Have a strong military, with no other government services. The executive branch can do whatever they want to keep them safe, in the name of freedom. The rich people (and corporations) can have low taxes. See how that works out for them. It would be a conservative paradise.
Of course, us libs know exactly how that works out – South America has had plenty of regimes with a handful of uber-wealthy people, no middle class and massive quantities of poor people with no services, a government that amounts to little more than an army that has the power to “disappear” people at will, and a spiraling-down economy due to lack of demand.
But hey, let’s shed our stupid and let them see if they can make it work next time around.

And last night you claimed that it’s not authoritarian if it’s “mob rule”.
Well, you might try reading up on the rise of Hitler and the SA in the beer halls and streets of early 1930’s Germany.
Because if the mob is in charge then the mob IS the authority.
May 2nd, 2009 at 3:09 pmIt’s a question of who we are and what we stand for.
We preached free speech and liberal values when the right wing was in charge and when they censor us in their blogs and chat rooms (like Ann Coulter’s).
But when we do it, oh, then it’s fine. When we do it it’s because we’re “the good guys” so its ok.

Unfortunately for your analogy this isn’t a living room.
It’s a public forum.
No, not really. It is a forum maintained by a private organization, the Center For American Progess. Click on the headers and you can find out all about them.
Even in a “public forum,” such, as say, a city park, you can be “censored” for creating a nuisance. A cop can get in trouble for hauling you off for saying things he doesn’t like, but he can do so without any fuss if you are expressing yourself by screaming, bullying, and harassing other people trying to keep up a civilized conversation.
I find that’s most often the case when one of these tiresome spitting matches in a political forum leads to someone bellowing CENSORSHIP!! at the top of their keystroke and burning up hundreds of inches of screen without saying anything pertinent to the original issue.
It wouldn’t be happening if you could just keep a grip on your emotions and discuss the issues instead of arguing about them. The difference is emotional restraint, respect for other participants, and respect for truth.
Are your statements, taken one by one or in toto, designed to convince readers that you interpretation of the issues are correct–or at least illuminating? Or are you using them as emotional weapons, striking at someone you dislike to hurt them or batter them into submission and flight?
It usually isn’t that hard to tell the difference.
May 2nd, 2009 at 9:27 pmYes, it is a public forum, and I don’t need to click on the headers. I’ve blogged here for over four years.
It’s a public blog and a public website.
No registration is required to review any content.
And ANYONE in the public with an internet connection and an email address can register using an AUTOMATED system, to comment.
It’s a public forum.
Private forums are like Ann Coulters, that requires APPROVAL prior to posting or even viewing content.
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:35 amI’m not sure what “in Toto” means but if you’d try “reading” them you’d see that each one is in RESPONSE to a question or comment posed to me.
Any other questions?
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:36 amDo me a favor slick and try reading my comments prior to rehashing inane positions that I’ve already addressed a dozen times now.
Once more.
This ain’t about the law.
It’s about who we are, and what we stand for.
And what I am seeing tonight, is that the same people I stood side by side with and blogged against the totalitarian mentality and censorship of the Neocons, are now turning their back on those values, and embracing that which we once hated.
The cries for free speech are quickly being drowned out by the goosestep drumbeat of “silencing the trolls”.
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:40 am‘Amen!!!!!!!!!!! Should we have a white caucus, too?’
You already do genius; it’s called ‘Congress.’
May 3rd, 2009 at 8:08 amAs usual, the liberals turn everything to racism. You can’t say anything about a blacks or hispanics. But,they can rip “whitey” anytime they want.
May 3rd, 2009 at 10:11 amWell you can “say” things about blacks and Hispanic’s Jeff. We all can.
But when you’re a member of congress and you call them “Separatists Groups”, then you don’t think that’s just a tad bit racist?
He wasn’t speaking from the bar stool of his local pub.
He was speaking from the floor of the US Capitol bldg.
We don’t tolerate racist remarks from elected officials in their official capacity. That’s been tried already in Germany back in the 30’s, and it didn’t turn out too well.
