Shortly after news leaked that Sen. Arlen Specter would be switching from the Republican to the Democratic Party, media reports quoted Specter telling President Obama he would be a “loyal Democrat” who would support his agenda:
At 10:32am, President Barack Obama reached Specter and told him “you have my full support” and “thrilled to have you.”
Specter told the president, “I’m a loyal Democrat. I support your agenda.”
Specter immediately exhibited his loyalty by restating his opposition to Dawn Johnsen, Obama’s nominee to head the Office of Legal Counsel, and by joining every Republican in Congress in voting against the president’s budget.
Today on Meet The Press, host David Gregory asked Specter if he would be supporting Obama’s health care plan given reports of his loyalty to Obama’s agenda. “No,” Specter said, adding that he never said he would be a “loyal Democrat”:
GREGORY: It was reported this week that when you met with the president, you said, “I will be a loyal democrat. I support your agenda.” Let me test that on probably one of the most important areas of his agenda, and that’s health care. Would you support health care reform that puts up a government run public plan to compete with a private plan issued by a private insurance company?
SPECTER: No. And you misquote me, David. I did not say I would be a loyal Democrat. I did not say that. And last week, after I said I was changing parties, I voted against the budget because the budget has a way to pass health care with 51 votes, which undermines a basic Senate institution to require 60 votes to impose closure on key issues. …I did not say I am a loyal Democrat.
Watch it:
Trying to clarify Specter’s position on Obama’s health care reform, Gregory then asked, “You would not support a public plan?” “That’s what I said and that’s what I meant,” Specter replied.
WTF? What good is he to anyone in the Dem party? If he is going to continue to serve as a republican, then send his a@@ back to them because we don’t need nor want another stupid republican in the senate. What a load!
May 3rd, 2009 at 11:58 amSo he can lie, just like the rest of the gopers and we are supposed to support him? I don’t think so. I hope he loses his seat due to ‘opportunistic change of heart’ [to become a member of the dem party] in 2010 inasmuch as I would hate to see Toomey win. But maybe another ‘true dem’ will run.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:02 pmI expect Arlen to be as loyal to Arlen’s career as Joe Lieberman’s loyalty lies with Joe Lieberman. Some people think they are so uniquely valuable that the public can’t be trusted to choose someone other than themselves. Maybe Joe and Arlen can join together to become the founders of The Narcissist Party.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:04 pmNow that we’ve gotten rid of the Republicans, now it’s time to get rid of the Conservative Democrats. The government runs best when run by moderates.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:07 pmHey John Kerry:
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:07 pmWanna share a nice kale soup?
If this turnrncoat Republican does not vote with the Democratic Party on key issues in the immediate future, I will not vote for him in the Democratic primary. He’s on PROBATION regardless what he, in his dreams, thinks.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:08 pmOh and John Kerry,
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:08 pmLet is one less in your ever shrinking tent. Who’s you skipper? Seems you lack one. Bummer eh?
Once an idiot…always an idiot.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:12 pmWhat a crock…Good old Arlin is like so many others in polatics..Call them the party of ONE…Each is interested in them selves only…They and him will do anything to keep getting elected, wheel their power and influence big business…He’s not even a good mole…We all would be better served if he has to retire forever instead of being a worse than another blue dog….P. B & J

I would like to know why I couldn’t sign on for almost two days. I had to change my pw and I signed on then when I tried to sign on later it refused me again.
If I’m going to be banned I would like to know why, especially when trolls are allowed to stay.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:17 pmKeep talking, Arlen. You are the best advertisement for why you should be challenged in next year’s primary. Listening to Joe Sestak on Hardball, it sounds like he’s going to jump in, and he’ll win, too.
Sorry, Mssrs. Rendell, Obama and Biden – you don’t get to appoint our candidate for us. We Pennsylvania Democrats don’t like being told what to do, whom to support and whom to fund, and we’ve fought too hard to regain the majority registration for you to dictate to us now.
PEACE
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:19 pmSestak for Penn. senate seat.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:21 pmThe Republican party is much better off without him.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:23 pm—
How so? Do you mean in the way that each that jumps shit leaves a little more water for the thirsty few that remain?
After his recent votes, I sure hope that Harry Reid changes his mind about giving Specter seniority and a plumb committee post.
Specter is nothing more than an opportunist. He is not aligned with the Democrats. He’s just looking for political cover.
I certainly hope the Democratic party in PA is looking for a good Democrat to run against Specter in the primary.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:24 pmI just sent him an email letting him know that just because he switched parties doesn’t mean he’ll be in congress beyond the 2010 election. According to a diary on DKos, dems in PA are having an event right now with Sistak and others. They want to primary Sistak against Specter in 2010. So far there’s been no word as to whether Sistak will throw his hat in the ring yet. If dems at the national level throw away $ on Specter in 2010 against the will of the dem supporters, I will not send one cent to them. All of it will go to support the individual campaigns of progressive dems. I’m willing to put my money where my heart is and hoping other progressives will also.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:24 pmSpecter is a loyal a**hole to the American Taliban. Labeling himself now as a Democrat will not change this fact. Look over there! It’s not a birdie! It’s a magic bullet!!!
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:24 pmAhh shit is sort of amusing but we all know we mean that rudderless, skipperless ship which is adrift as thoses shoals approach…
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:25 pmHere’s a letter to my local paper I shot off this morning:
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:26 pm
bilbo, i’m afraid harry will be “good for his word”… dammitall…
…
i’m having trouble with the “recommend” button – won’t let me…
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:28 pmsays i’ve already rated that comment…
First: Specter told the president, “I’m a loyal Democrat. I support your agenda.”
Then: I did not say I would be a loyal Democrat. I did not say that.
Exactly as many of us predicted — Specter is loyal only to himself.
When people tell you who they are — believe them.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:29 pmso, he’s NOT going to vote for healthcare ???
i thought that was his one sure thing…
a true republiCON after all…
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:32 pm“…because the budget has a way to pass health care with 51 votes, which undermines a basic Senate institution to require 60 votes to impose closure on key issues.”
Actually, Senator, that “basic Senate institution” is a fairly recent change to the Senate rules. Back in the day (even before you were a Senator) when a Senator wanted to oppose a bill, he had to stand on the Senate floor and keep talking until he couldn’t talk any more or until he convinced other Senators to join him. But someone decided that was too hard (insert whiny voice here), so they changed the rules and said that 60 votes (an arbitrary number) would be needed to end “debate” (if you want to keep calling what you guys do on the Senate floor “debate”) on any issue. You said it referred to “key issues”, and yet your Republican colleagues have been using it on just about every issue. (We call it being “sore losers”.)
Democracy is about putting something up for a vote and whichever side got a majority of votes would win. To be perfectly honest, Senator, the 60-votes-for-cloture rule is an affront to Democracy, and needs to be abolished.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:32 pmtsk, you know exactly whats gonna happen…it’ll be just like Lieberman vs Lamont…Harry Reid will support & kiss Specter’s ass every step of the way & we will get NOTHING in return
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:34 pmSpecter’s ideology is sort of irrelevant. He has waddlled back and forth most of the time. Why this is important is that it has a strong psycological impact on a ever shrinking GOP base. They are frightened and without a compass nor chart to guide them as they drift ever closer to the edge of the 6000 year old earth…
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:34 pmAs much as like the fact that his leaving the Republican party tweaks the Republicans, I have no illusions that Specter will be an asset to the Democrats. In fact, I suspect he will be more trouble than he is worth. But he will certainly get his share of media attention for the way he votes just in time for the next election, eh?
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:34 pmArlen Specter is a Republican, first, last and always. He’s out for himself, first last and always, and he’ll tell any lie he has to.
We should not be surprised at this behavior. I wish someone would call him on his lies – in public. In front of cameras. I’d enjoy watching him squirm.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:36 pmWow, what a deal those Dems cut w/Specter. Let me see, Specter switches parties thereby hanging onto an office he surely would have lost in 2010 and he keeps his seniority. In exchange, the Dems get, well . . . Nothing! Shrewd move guys and gals
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:36 pmWow a Republican … errr ex-Republican… that wants to have things both ways. What a novelty.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:38 pmConservativeForProgress Says:
He’s all yours now. The Republican party is much better off without him.
Right. Because 40 seats is much better than 41.
By your logic, the GNOP is going to be so much stronger when you’re down to 30 seats in the Senate. I’m with you, pal!
PEACE
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:40 pmJohn Kerry Says:
HA! I LOVE IT!!
Congratulations on getting Specter!! Now you know why we couldn’t wait to get rid of him. All he cares about is his own political career and NOT any particular party and DEFINITELY not about you libs!
totally owned these Libs…good job!!!!
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:41 pmI see Trolls JK and RealitySmacked are trying to turn lemons into lemonade again, but still lacking lemons, they turn once more to their own urine.
Good job!!!!
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:43 pmLibertyLover Says:
I suspect [Specter] will be more trouble than he is worth. But he will certainly get his share of media attention for the way he votes just in time for the next election, eh?
Which will be great for his primary challenger. Don’t be fooled… PA Dems are strong, and will not support Specter.
I suspect he’s being used for cloture votes, and when he fails to perform, all promises will be dialed back and Specter’s records of not supporting the President and Senate Dems will be the reasoning.
Specter is too much of a vain whore to notice he’s being used, which is all the better for us PA Dems.
PEACE
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:45 pmRalph, as I said at 12:40 p.m. the logic that having less Senate seats is better for the GNOP than more is laughable. I guess they didn’t learn anything from our willingness to hold our noses and keep Lieberman in our caucus to have a majority.
JK and RC: The more seats we lose, the stronger we’ll be!
Okay, boys, whatever floats your [sinking] boat!
PEACE
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:49 pmIf you want loyalty in DC — buy a dog.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:51 pm65% of Americans favor single-payer, government-run healthcare. That’s to the left of what Obama is proposing. I’m sure that goes for Pennsylvania, too.
He might lose some 2010 primary votes due to the fact he would be about 87 by the time he finishes that term.
I never did believe his “single bullet theory”. Connelly would have been still holding his hat after that hand was shattered by the bullet.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:55 pmArlen Specter is loyal to the best interests of Arlen Specter. I surely hope the good people of PA can see thorough him and nominate a real Democrat to take on the all-but-dead statewide candidacy of Pat Toomey.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:56 pmInstead of wasting another breath on Spec o’ Fly Droppings we should be watching how 8-10 Dems are trying to destroy Obama’s agenda. Arlen is just one of the group, jocking for positions on comms. to undercut any progress. They are bunch of center-right hacks who have had their cake and in the process eaten ours, too. Obama ought to pull his support, take his lumps, and show Spec the door to Lieberman’s office. The message would be huge and the message clear: in these times the first liar doesn’t have a chance of winning this rigged game.
May 3rd, 2009 at 12:57 pmThis guy appears to march to the sound of his own drum too much. I think he scares both sides of the spectrum to a large extent, and is not a shoe-in to win reelection
He’s just to “iffy”.
I hope the Dems in fact didn’t promise him the world as reported, because a more viable candidate stands a better chance of being elected.
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:00 pmBeing a Pa resident for all of Specters senate career, I know that he is only loyal to his inflated self-image. I think he cares less about the interests of his constituency than any other swine on the Hill. Why the Dems would take this shitstack into their fold is beyond me. I will work long and hard for ANY Democrat that runs against him.
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:00 pm.
If Specter retires, then he wouldn’t have to defend why he won’t be a Republican and won’t be a Democrat. But I still want Arlen to explain why warrantless wiretaps are a good thing…
.
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:02 pmSpecter: ‘I did not say I am not a weasel and a loser’

Talk Talk Elephant Talk…
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:11 pmSpecter hasn’t always been a Republican. This from Towleroad:
This isn’t the first time he has switched parties. If another Democrat comes along who might seriously challenge him in the primary, I wonder if he’ll resign from the Democratic Party then and run as an independent?
And, yes, the link goes to “a site with homosexual tendencies”. But that doesn’t mean they don’t have useful information. :)
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:12 pmMr. Specter, you’re not a loyal anything! This old a$$ dinosaur need to start packing up his desk because the masses are already pissed off.
These politicians better watch out – when the liberals start to protest – there will be blood….. We won’t throw stupid teabags on your lawn you fcukface geezer.
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:15 pmwait… i’m thinking, WHO said that specter said “loyal”…
from that link – a WSJ link, no less (can anything murdoch ever be trusted?):
“I’m a loyal Democrat,” Mr. Specter replied, according to people familiar with the White House. “I support your agenda.”
somebody’s f’n with program… whatever that is…
why was there any weight given to that “quote”?
president obama better set this straight soon…
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:26 pmWhile much has been made about Obama’s first 100 days, not enough has been said about the GOP’s last 100.
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:28 pmWhen Spectre is interviewed, he spends all his time telling the Republicans how to fix their problems, instead of telling what he will do as a Democrat. Unless he supports the Obama agenda, I see no reason for the DNC to help him next year. If the polls in Pennsylvania show him losing the Dem primary to another candidate, is he going to switch again?
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:29 pmJohn Kerry:
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:34 pmCan you boldly tell me who are the leaders of the GOP? Specter has always farted around in the middle. Who will lead you out of the wilderness and how can you get out of said wilderness in the absense of the map of the middle ground?
JK,
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:35 pmSo, over 60% of the country is wacko, left-wing nutters? And it is only the 21% who are Republican who are right?
BTW, I don’t know why you are cheering—you didn’t gain anything, it’s just debateable how much you lost.
@45 Moondancer, as a fellow PA resident i must say you called it on specter. I also believe that our fellow libs can trust us to vote the best demorcratic canidate into office in PA.
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:36 pmThis clown changed party for personal reasons only.
He lies with impunity – he cannot be trusted.
His words denying that he would be a loyal Democrat give Obama the opening to not campaign for him.
Specter will have a formidable challenger in Ridge for the Repugs at the primary contest.
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:39 pmSestek is by far the better man for Senator in PA.
The Democrats can use Specter for the next two years. It didn’t hurt us to get him no matter what the trolls might think. It hurt the Republicans more. However, anybody so inclined should donate money DIRECTLY to Sestak instead of letting the party decide where it goes. Yep, Sestak and who ever is running against Batshitcrazy Bachmann need our support.
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:43 pmRush Limbaugh for President!!!!! We should all switch parties (in states you can split) and nominate him for President.
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:45 pmMarie, if Ridge challenges Toomey, he’s not likely to win. Ridge is, after all, pro-choice, which is why the wingnuttery wouldn’t allow McCain to put him on the ticket.
PA’s GNOP is dying and all that remain are the wingiest of the wingnuts, and they love Toomey!
I really hope Sestak jumps into the race; it seems obvious that Specter did what he did to grab a news cycle, but his votes don’t say “Dem” at all; never have. Obama/Biden/Rendell are likely to withdraw their support and use Specter’s lack of support for the President’s agenda as the reason.
Specter hasn’t changed over the years, he hasn’t become more of a centrist or a moderate, let alone a liberal. It’s only because the GNOP has pulled hard right that Specter appears to have moved left.
We are not fooled, Arlen, and we will not support your re-election. What are you gonna do, go back to the GNOP? They don’t want you, either.
PEACE
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:47 pmIt’s so completely obvious that Specter is only changing parties with the hope of being re-elected, even as a Democrat. He can talk a good game sometimes, supporting the restoration of Habeus Corpus or opposition to warrantless wiretapping or Bush’s continually escalating attempt for an imperial presidency. But in the end, he always supported Bush. I was around when he came up with his “magic bullet” theory when JFK was murdered, recognized him as untrustworthy and dishonest at the time. And I was only 16 years old when the Warren Commission report was issued in 1964.
I am horrified that the DNC have said they would support Specter over another Democrat in the PA primary, and even more horrified by Obama saying he would campaign for him. As for Reid, well, he’s just being Reid. No one who only knows how to follow should ever be in a leadership in the Congress.
As for difficulty in posting and also recommending posts, I’m having problems as well. When did they switch their log-on program?
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:47 pmArlen, you are an eighty year old man with cancer.
Here’s an idea: retire.
The country will manage somehow without you.
May 3rd, 2009 at 1:49 pmwindancer, Shayne is right. If we want to support Sestak for a run against Specter, we need to donate directly to him, not through the DNC or the DSCC.
Joe Sestak says right on his front page that Arlen isn’t the right person for the job, and I believe he will jump in the race, especially if he knows he has wide-range support.
To all who can, please donate. To those who can’t, at least read Sestak’s front page:

May 3rd, 2009 at 1:56 pmSpencers mom, Thankyou for the link for Sestak i will be making my contribution next week.
May 3rd, 2009 at 2:01 pmI do NOT get what the Dims gain from this.
“60″ votes are unattainable by the Dim caucus on the best day, unless to declare war…
this couldn’t have happened without the connivance/cooperation of “thePrez”. what kid of deal does he think he’s making?
does he STILL think the Pukes are acting in “good faith”?
this is particularly bothersome in view of the coming confirmation fight over Souter’s replacement.
Does anyone REALLY believe the Pukes won’t interfere in Obama’s choice? Who thinks they do not intend to compel the noimination of a “right-centrist,” and probably another goddam Catholic?
For a nomination for the Court to move to the floor, one member of the minority of the Judiciary Committee MUST carry the name forward. Specter wasn’t reliable in the matter, but look up the rest of the gang–Tom Coburn and John Cornyn are the moderates–and it looks like Arlen might have been the best chance.
I am always at a loss to explain the fecklessness of Dims, unless it is that they are merely following the dictates of the Owners to confuse and fragment the electorate in preparation for the next phase of the explicit right-wing coup…
May 3rd, 2009 at 2:03 pmi am watching the history channel – which i never watch – program about appalachia, ‘hillbillies’… fascinating… really.
but i can’t help thinking – knowing – that this rendition will inspire another round of southern pride… not the good kind…

65% of Americans favor single-payer, government-run health care. That’s to the left of what Obama is proposing. I’m sure that goes for Pennsylvania, too.
The problem is too many are bought and paid for. This from Ben Nelson Nelson’s problem, he told CQ, is that the public plan would be too attractive and would hurt the private insurance plans.
I say we not only email these jerks, but also register and log into major online newspapers from their state and educate their voting constituents.
May 3rd, 2009 at 2:13 pmspencers butterfly mom Says:

I too saw the Hardball show and hope that Sestak will ignore Obama’s warning that Specter will be the supported challenger because I believe Sestak could carry the votes and come into the Senate as a TRUE DEM who takes a moderate stance [unlike Specter and the blue dogs]. He sounds like a winner! I will donate to him.
May 3rd, 2009 at 2:14 pmtokin librul Says: Tom Coburn and John Cornyn are the moderates–
That’d be funny if it weren’t so scary.
It will be shown that the magic 60 number is not a given and has been overblown, more of a pipe dream. Repubs are more lock-step, and their attaining 60 is more likely to result in consequences, especially if it’s in opposition to progress. Specter may voice opposition to rep ideas, but he ends up voting on the key issues that way anyway.
There seems to be a correlation that doesn’t match National voting trends where it takes Ds a 60-40 majority to get done what Rs do with one vote. Now watch how difficult it will be to get D policy through even with 60 Ds in the Senate.
Hoping for cooperation by October? Good luck with that.
May 3rd, 2009 at 2:15 pm.
Dear Proud,
So you’re for false advertising, then?
Cheat, lie, steele…

But doing the right thing is NEVER an option? I see.

Dear brothabildo,
Hi WAYNEBRO!
.
May 3rd, 2009 at 2:23 pmI like how the trolls are pretending that lefties universally proclaimed Specter some kind of “loyal Democrat” from the start, when almost everyone (myself included) said straight up that it meant virtually nothing to Democrats but was a body blow to Republicans.
We know Specter’s a snake. He always has been. He may be a little more vulnerable to Democratic pressure now, but he’s still no one to be counted on.
But if it makes the trolls feel better about their lot and that of their rapidly deteriorating party to laugh at Democrats for picking up a sixtieth vote in the Senate, then we should let them have their little laugh.
They have so few in their lives.
May 3rd, 2009 at 2:26 pmGOL: I had trouble signing on too. I think they had some technical difficulty.
TUVM
May 3rd, 2009 at 2:27 pmspecter joined the democratic party so he could fook with it from within. specter puts 60 in the caucus with franken. the only repug defense is conservadems sabotaging from within, with the help of specter now.
May 3rd, 2009 at 2:28 pmCan we trade him for Snowe at least? Seriously this is probably bad for us rather then Sestak or someone else trouncing Toomey in the general we’re faced with the prospect of an “unloyal” Dem for six more years or worse Tom Ridge stepping in and beating Arlen.
May 3rd, 2009 at 2:28 pmProud,

Of course, this premise depends on a sound argument to be made in the first place, so I guess the point is moot.
May 3rd, 2009 at 2:31 pmhadenough,
May 3rd, 2009 at 2:32 pmYeah, you can’t offer the people healthcare for everyone at half the cost—that’s too attractive!
Prod, can you describe the kinds of “Chicago style politics” that Obama has employed?
That way we can be sure that you actually have a point, and not just that you learned a new buzzword at your latest troll seminar.
Thanks.

He’ll loose his seat to Toomey next year, that’s a given after what he said to the republicans of his state.
He was already on thin ice and he knew it. Now he’s toast, and that means either way the dems get the seat.
And it’s better that we get a REAL liberal in there and not a fake one like Specter, who was just pretending to try and keep his seat.

he’s only clowning the teabagging clowns. Post a link where President Obama and VP Biden states they are supporting arlene on the dem ticket, troll.

Can we try to stay on topic today?
May 3rd, 2009 at 2:57 pm.
Dear WAYNEBRO,
Since you’re all about this “CONCERN TROLL” thing in the guise of protecting a progressive agenda and free speech, just how does throwing ad hominems work in your favor?
Sure, you’re free to toss an ad hominem out there…
… Just know how it makes you look.
.
May 3rd, 2009 at 2:59 pmExactly. If I didn’t know better I’d say this was just one more attempt by the right wing to try and embarrass the President and the Democrats. Get everybody excited about Specters switch, then say “huh….switch…who me?”.
Specters done. He hasn’t a prayer next year of holding onto his seat and that seat will go to the democrats, giving us the filibuster majority we need to make the remaining republicans little more than a side note for the next few years.
I hope they like doing nothing, because after next year, that’s what their collective schedules will consist of.
May 3rd, 2009 at 3:01 pmSpecter is the magic bullet guy. TP always says i already recommended everyone now, so i can’t use the button. not sure about abuse reporting…
May 3rd, 2009 at 3:02 pmUmmm, Proud, Specter was originally a democrat.
May 3rd, 2009 at 3:07 pmI guess the real question here is do you even know what the word “ad hominem” means?
It means attacking the person making the argument instead of the argument.
I address your arguments. I might mock you a bit in doing so, but I address the content of your arguments.
You however attack me.
You don’t attack my position.
You just attack me, which is the very definition of the term.
May 3rd, 2009 at 3:09 pmThis is true; Arlen is true to nothing. The Dems need to hustle this guy off the field and into the locker room. Arlen is an ass-wipe; you know, that material we use to wipe shit from our ass.
Arlen became a whore to someone, I don’t know who, when he authorized the pristine bullet fiasco and went along with the rest of the J.F.K. assassination coverup.
Arlen should his true color, the color of evil, when he brutalized Anita Hill. Was he supporting Pennsylvanians then or was he blindly supporting the GOP then? I can only think he loved that big fat johnson of Clarence Thomas so much he would do anything to keep kneeling at the feet of the GOP.
May 3rd, 2009 at 3:12 pmKick his ass out. We can get a loyal Dem in 2010.
May 3rd, 2009 at 3:14 pmOkay lets see here ….

not a loyal democrat ……
So…. despite your recent bout with cancer you oppose health care for millions of less fortunate Americans …..
because you ARE loyal to the free market economy .
WHAT A GUY !
106 WAYNEBRO,
You did not address my argument when you dismiss what I write and call it unintelligent and illiterate, like you did last night. Just like today, you dismiss me because I misspelled a word… GASP!!!
Dear WAYNEBRO,
Don’t like people calling out FLAG THE TROLL…?
THEN SCROLL PAST IT!
Oh, and lastly, if you don’t like people telling you that when you tell people to not enforce house rules because it offends you, then don’t say anything.
spencers butterfly mom was correct. You and your alter EGO…
… Not so much.
When hatred and hate speech are given a license to exist, hate and the words used to inflict their hatred are condoned.
The moment you hit “agree” to the terms of use, then those are the house rules. If people break them, then they get flagged. And we can continue to see you run to their defense?
A. MAY. ZING!

—
May 3rd, 2009 at 3:32 pmHaiku this is not…
The silliness seems endless…
I never said anything about my not liking it, or that it was some sort of issue of my preferences.
I made a clear and concise case for who and what we are, and are supposed to be, that has nothing to do with “house rules”.
Your inability to read my arguments, understand them or correctly address them talks to either your illiteracy problem, or your problem with honesty.
Or both.
May 3rd, 2009 at 3:32 pmAs easy as it is to dislike Specter his switch could be even bigger than most talking heads seem to realize. I would hope that he will have to be of use to the Dems if he wants support for his campaign. The way he could pull off this trick is by voting for cloture. Reading between the lines, a bit, it’s pretty clear that Arlen didn’t like being part of the petulant obstruction.
May 3rd, 2009 at 3:33 pmSpecter, Nelson, Liebermann, Bayh, etc. Let’s get rid of them! They do not reflect the progressive and neccessary points of view to get this country moving in the right direction….I’m not sure what century they’re living in, but it sure as hell isn’t the 21st!
May 3rd, 2009 at 3:34 pmWell don’t worry. I made my case over the last two days as clearly and concisely as I know how. There’s nothing left to say on it. It’s been said.
This troll however seems intent on dragging it out and harassing me, so pardon me while I swat at the fly.
I’ll try to keep it down.
May 3rd, 2009 at 3:34 pm#114 Said: Your inability to read my arguments, understand them or correctly address them talks to either your illiteracy problem, or your problem with honesty.
Oh, ouch. An “ad” attack!
Dear WAYNEBRO,
When you registered here at T.P. and agreed to the terms, were you not agreeing to a form of limited speech? Or damned be the rules?
Please stop conflating between a free speech society and a blog, with rules and a registration. They are not the same thing.
May 3rd, 2009 at 3:37 pmAnd you’re following the “blog rules” by attacking me, how exactly?
May 3rd, 2009 at 3:41 pm.
Dear WAYNEBRO,
So when you let your alter EGO out and play as your dildobro(aka brothabildo) and bit into spencers mom for calling out flag the troll, it’s about me not letting go?

I’m only responding to you(two).
Or was there some redeeming quality to the antisemetic hate rant spewed by #65: “Ugly face of American Jewry! Hack with loyalty with America! Their loyalty rest somewhere else. Start with Lieberman, Dianna Fienstein, Nelson,Jane Harman, All the Banker, Greenspan, Bernaki and so on. List is too long.
Remember, Treachery is punishable crime.”
How does this deserve credibility by defending it?

May 3rd, 2009 at 3:56 pm“All he cares about is his own political career and NOT any particular party and DEFINITELY not about you libs!
totally owned these Libs…good job!!!!”
I don’t remember *any* liberals being excited about Arlen Specter joining the party, although lot of Republicans were sick about it. I personally celebrated it because it was one more nail in the conservative coffin, but I don’t really want Arlen Specter as part of the Democratic party.

It’s clogging up the damn threads, and is basically pretty ridiculous.
May 3rd, 2009 at 4:04 pmI don’t know why Democrats should even allow Specter to run in the Democratic primary. He is no Democrat, he has no loyalty to the Democrats. The Reichwingnuts drove him from the Republican Party because of their fascism, and now he is essentially without a party.
He can put a D in front of his name, but that does not make him a Democrat. He cannot be trusted and should not be permitted to run in the Democratic Primary.
Mr. Specter, if you want to be a Democrat, then step down when your term ends.

Please bear with us, Thinkprogress is having some technical issues revolving around the issue of Freedom of Speech.
There is a technical squabble on the dilemma of shutting down people we disagree with, versus, having our site shut down by those we disagree with and therefore everyone loses their freedom of speech.
Already, this site has lost posters, viewership and content b/c we at thinkprogress cannot tolerate free speech.
May 3rd, 2009 at 4:07 pmSo outages, slowdowns are going to continue to plague this site as you just experienced. Nothing to worry about, move along to another better managed site! Right now we have a team of monkeys working around the clock to save some people’s freedom of speech while not allowing others! That is progressive we think about!

May 3rd, 2009 at 4:27 pmIt’s interesting to observe the trolls. This particular one seems fascinated with homosexuality and bisexuality. Typical for Republicans taught to repress their sexuality.
This troll also likes to pretend that others are uneducated and have no skills or prospects. I wonder why he would make such an absurd accusation because he could not know anything about anyone else’s education or prospects. Perhaps it is just projection but more likely he is just following the Rove play book for propaganda trolling.

Hi Jane, and thanks.
May 3rd, 2009 at 4:34 pmWaynebro,
After talking to Jane about it, I realize that my comments yesterday may have been unclear. I think that we are in agreement about flagging comments and censorship in general.
I am perfectly willing to discuss a topic with a conservative who wishes to engage in respectful debate. I am not willing to have my time wasted by trolls who have no intention of having a rational, fact-based discussion, even if their original point might have had enough validity to warrant discussion. I’ll even try to engage them on different threads, but if it becomes clear that they don’t want to discuss the subject (as opposed to being too ill-informed to discuss it), then I treat them as an unwelcome visitor who needs to be removed from the building.
Unfortunately, the attacks on the visitor often devolve into contests to see who can come up with the best put-down, to which the visitor may respond with even more vitriol, and intelligent discourse can no longer take place. Which is sad, in a way.
But as far as calling for someone to be banned (censored, if you will), I try to reserve that call for people who show up with screen names derogatory of any of us, including the TP staff; people who post comments calling for someone to be killed or brutally treated (as this would be inhumane); or people who show up for the sole purpose of wasting our time, TP’s bandwidth, and their own diminishing brain cells.
I hope that we are not far apart in our views on this subject. And I apologize for not reading the entire dialog before butting in, and for not being better informed on the actual causes and particulars of the discussion. And I enjoy your viewpoints, too.

May 3rd, 2009 at 4:36 pmrightwing-leftwing, are you joking?
May 3rd, 2009 at 4:37 pmI think so too.
I never object to threats or profane obscenities, such as just posting to harass someone by calling them “Lesbo” and such. That’s not a matter of personal opinion.,
What that is is a foul, personal attack designed to harass and slander a group of people (i.e. Lesbians in this case).
It has nothing to do with the thread, or any political discourse. It’s nonsense and I wouldn’t raise a finger in objection to flagging that sort of nonsense.

I noticed that brothabildo is a no show from there out.
Zooey,
May 3rd, 2009 at 5:03 pmI knew something was a miss.
Frankly, I don’t see why anyone is surprised by Specter’s volte-face. When he announced last week that he was switching parties, some of us noted that there was no particular reason to think this decision was motivated by any sort of shift in Specter’s values. On the contrary — the statements that he made at the time made it fairly clear that he has no intention of changing his stance on the issues. It was fairly obvious to me that Specter would simply be a DINO, because his decision was clearly motivated almost entirely by self-interest. Since Pennsylvania favored the Democrats in the 2008 election, Specter has apparently decided that his best chance of holding onto his Senate seat is to switch parties.
That being said, if self-interest is the primary force behind Specter’s decision, it might be in his best interest to brush up on his Aesop…particularly the fable entitled “The Birds, The Beasts, and The Bat”, the moral of which is:
HE WHO IS NEITHER ONE THING NOR THE OTHER HAS NO FRIENDS.
May 3rd, 2009 at 5:03 pmThe malicious troll has been name-jacking. After TP gets its problems straightened out with the log-in, the threads will probably be cleaned up more quickly. There will probably be less to clean up in the daytime because it will be in school.

May 3rd, 2009 at 5:06 pmMax, Zooey’s right – as I said before, WAYNEBRO is one-of-a-kind. ;) The rightwing.leftwing troll has given plenty of cues that he’s the ‘brotha’.
Now, back to Specter: I have to say that I really don’t see how he can stick to his (until recently) current views and still manage to get elected again. Pennsylvanians are evolving beyond him, he’s going to have to re-think some of those views, like public healthcare, very carefully in the very near future. Does he really think that he would have so successfully fought and recovered from his bout with cancer if he didn’t have ‘public’ healthcare, or even if he had the average working person’s healthcare coverage?
May 3rd, 2009 at 5:07 pmRightwing.leftwing, you have been asked to leave, and you said you would leave if asked.

May 3rd, 2009 at 5:15 pmPennsylvania Democrats… just vote “NO” to Arlen Specter next year. Pennsylvania wants a REAL Democrat and not a DINO in the Senate. PA Democratic Committee people… be ready to riot Harrisburg if the State Democratic Party endorses Specter next year.
May 3rd, 2009 at 5:15 pmWhen they tuck themselves in at night in those twin beds they feel they accomplished something. That is the part that intrigues me…
May 3rd, 2009 at 5:16 pmYea, I’ve been guilty of them too. It’s hard sometimes when we find ourselves on top to remember what values got us there. I think was reminding myself of those values, as much as anyone else.
In fact, it really started when I caught myself agreeing with some others and flagging a troll last week. After doing it I felt uneasy, and on further inspection of his comments I realized I had helped to censor someone that really was just stating his opinion, albeit obnoxiously. Something I do too.
So I guess guilt was a more driving factor for me than anything.
Thanks Jane, you’ve always been 1st class.

Ok not sure if I can leave just let, the idiots keep drawing me back in.
May 3rd, 2009 at 5:27 pmCan someone explain how typing a post he disagrees with is not worse than smashing windows and destroying property?
It’s this simple. Affordable health care for everyone is a key issue not only for the Democratic party but for the nation’s competitiveness in dire economic times. Currently, we spend 17 percent of GDP, double what other industrial democracies do–and we end up leaving one in six uninsured–and most others at risk of bankruptcy from catastrophic illness. IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU. Meanwhile, insurer “overhead” steals 40 cents out of every one of your health care dollars!
If Sen. Specter can’t get behind changing this simple math, there’s no point complaining. He’s in the pocket of the insurance industry. So, if you disagree that they’re looking out for you, reach into your pocket and support his opponent in the upcoming Democratic primary. I know I will!
May 3rd, 2009 at 5:27 pmSpecter’s free to join any political party he wants. Now, it’s time to let him know that the Democratic party won’t be supporting him.

Wow. Looks like that idiot troll brothabill name jacked a couple IDs including mine. Just like a three year old – you can’t leave the room for 5-minutes without supervising them.
Where’s that damn nanny? Off on weekends I guess.
I figured that everyone knows that rightwing.leftwing (with a dot) is the original brothabill imposter for the original rightwing-leftwing (with a dash) which is me.
Seeing that our buddie brothabill mentioned Bill-O the clown, I actually recorded some FAUX Noise shows this weekend for research: All the anchors are pompous and arrogant (Bill-O, Handjob-ity, Glenda Becky). They cut their guests off when the conversation veers off the direction they want it to go. Especially when the guest speaks positively about Barak Obama.
Fair and balanced? No, try stacked and off-centered. It’s sad.
Bill-O, is a narcissistic corporate whore who sells and promotes his own product on the show. Bill-O is a little b!tch and I’m glad TP took him down a notch.
Brothabill, please leave this site and never come back. Thank you.
May 3rd, 2009 at 5:42 pmAs I was saying earlier Specters done. He’s ended his career. It doesn’t matter whether he changes his mind, he said some things that the Pennsylvania republicans aren’t going to forget any time soon.
And he’s already trailing in polls so it’s clear that this seat will go to a democrat. And it’s better in the long run that it goes to an actual liberal and not him.
He blew it.
Time for the luncheon circuit and golf.
May 3rd, 2009 at 5:43 pmRightwingleftwing, your full of crap, your not just being sarcastic you are like every other wingnut and repug. Sore fcking losers who just want to throw a monkey wrench into the engine of progress and the good that PRESIDENT OBAMA wants to do for our country and our image abroad.
May 3rd, 2009 at 5:46 pmAbout health care: if economic fixes were easy, there would be no living to make as an economist! A public health plan is the best option for dealing with the health care crisis. It will hurt private insurance industries and put some people in those industries out of work. If we are to stop the horror stories, the implosion of every major insurance company in America, though doubtful that would occur, would be a small price to pay. But more jobs are created under democratic administrations. We are not the party of putting average americans in a rut. We will plug the gaps and relief will be on the way!

May 3rd, 2009 at 5:48 pmCongressman Joseph Sestak, I’ve been increasingly enamored with him. ontheissues.org labels him a ‘moderate liberal’ — pretty progressive considering the typical political slant of your hotshot military officer. He is the highest ranking military officer ever to serve in congress. Good family man, young daughter had/has a journey with an illness (will have to reread biography).

May 3rd, 2009 at 5:53 pmOh, trust me r-lwing, they all end up bankrupt…
May 3rd, 2009 at 5:56 pm… Karma sees to that!
At least our pet trolls serve to demonstrate why the GOP is hurdling towards permanent irrelevancy. Once exposed as unbalanced pathological liars, they just explode into gibberish. Sen. Specter, regardless of his own motives, has recognized that.
It doesn’t matter how the Reichwhiners spin it. It doesn’t matter if he actually votes like a Dem. His defection is the signal that it’s time for anyone with a moderate bone in their body to abandon the GOP to the extremists.
May 3rd, 2009 at 5:59 pmWow.

Expecting Specter to be a “loyal” Democrat is a bit like the mistress expecting her lover to be faithful once he divorces his wife and moves in. . .
May 3rd, 2009 at 6:11 pmI wouldn’t fret too much about Arlen. I reckon he knows which side his bread is buttered on. If he runs for re-election after voting against affordable health insurance and EFCA in

Thanks to my connection with the sun.
And you neednt worry if know how to spoof an IP addy or use the t o r network onion routing to bypass filters.
I am quite savvy enough to do anything I want. The fact that thinkprogress limited free speech and thus had their free speech limited b/c people cant register or login or see comments.
The fact that it happened does not mean it happened by me lol
And of course, if it never happened, it cant be traced to brothawayne naturally. The internet is a bunch of one’s and zeros man, ones and zeros, you can try and stop freedom of speech but you cant stop one’s and zeros. May 3rd, 2009 at 6:19 pmThis thread is a fascinating study in troll behavior; we have a name-jacker who claims that he will leave if politely asked, and then, after several politely ask him to leave, claims that he is leaving.
But then never does.
I said it was fascinating. I didn’t say it was surprising.

May 3rd, 2009 at 6:45 pmWow. Now we can all see what a TP without moderators would look like, and it’s ain’t pretty! I can only hope that the site is having problems today because of behind the scenes upgrades that we’ll see tomorrow. Like, perhaps, an “ignore” feature? hint, hint… ;-)
Back to Specter, I don’t think he has a chance of being the Dem’s candidate in next year’s general. I suspect he’s being used for cloture votes, that he’s indicated that he will provide support to key agenda items, but that he will not do so and his failure to follow thru will be the reasoning to pull back the support. Promises were made on both side which neither side intends to keep.
Joe Sestak is a very viable candidate. I became acquainted with him during his run against Curt Weldon after Weldon attacked Sestak’s then 5-year-old daughter who was going through chemo for a brain tumor. The entire Sestak family was the epitome of grace under pressure, and he won a clear victory over scum. November’s victory was a landslide for Sestak.
In 2006, any idiot could have beaten Santorum, and Casey proved my point. I do not like Casey, never did. His single vote on stem cells prevented the overriding of Bush’s veto, and science was pushed back two years. However many died as a result of Casey’s “principles” should forever haunt his “pro-life” self.
Please take a moment and let Joe know that he is the Democrat we as a nation need in the Senate next year by emailing him support at info@sestakforcongress.com

I think the more TP is mentioned on other media like MSNBC and radio, the more trolls will pop in and try to ruin the experience. It shows what kind of people are out there on the other side and I’m glad we’re not like that. TP had better increase their ad revenue for more staff.
May 3rd, 2009 at 7:42 pmIt must be really hard for political egos to retire.
May 3rd, 2009 at 7:46 pmSpecter has survived cancer – at his age, shouldn’e he just retire now and enjoy his life? Instead, he will surely leave in too late and in ignominy.
Spector’s like me…He’s an old white man. Unlike me, he doesn’t seem to have the common sense to retire. He is so out of his political league that he’s become a caricature of his former self. Get a clue, Arlen. Your ideas and opinions are a relic of a by-gone era. Turn the Senatorial reins over to a younger, bona fide Democrat. Pennsylvannia, and the nation, deserve no less.
May 3rd, 2009 at 7:50 pmMarie, whatever legacy Specter could have hoped to retire with (and I won’t go there…) he has negated all on his own. Arlen learned nothing from Lieberman, but unlike Lyin’ Joe, Specter has come right out and said that he pulled this stunt precisely for personal political gain.
Lieberman has no chance of being re-elected in 2012 because of the way he played his constituents. We in Pennsylvania know better, and Specter will be out of the running before the general. In PA, Specter can’t pull a Lieberman and run as an Independent.

Today, Sen. Arlen Specter announced that he is switching parties to become a Democrat. In a statement released to the press, Specter explained that the GOP has left moderates behind and “has moved far to the right.”
May 3rd, 2009 at 8:07 pmMarie Says:
It must be really hard for political egos to retire.
Specter has survived cancer – at his age, shouldn’e he just retire now and enjoy his life? Instead, he will surely leave in too late and in ignominy.
For someone like Specter the Senate and the power that goes with it is his life. Without it, he will shrivel up and die. He said in his statement why he was changing parties was because he wasn’t going to allow his career to end by being run out of town by the Republicans. Oh well, he will be run out of town by the Democrats instead.
May 3rd, 2009 at 8:15 pmBilbo Hussein Baggins Says:
Has anyone bothered to ask Specter why he became a Democrat if he didn’t believe in their values and didn’t plan on voting like he was a Democrat?
May 3rd, 2009 at 7:58 pm
Bilbo, didn’t he pretty much answer that himself? Pure selfishness!
I used to have some measure of respect for Specter, and to a small degree still do. I rooted for him to overcome his cancer, and was pleased to see his return to health. However, even before this turn of events, some of that respect was lost when he would appear to be reasonable, then disappoint me by caving to the righties within a few days.
While I certainly can’t predict just what affect he will have as a Democrat, if he stays the same old Specter I can’t see what help he will give them.
May 3rd, 2009 at 8:15 pmWhat I meant was, the dems kicked Lieberman out, Specter’s just an opportunistic weasel
May 3rd, 2009 at 8:20 pm“the dems kicked Lieberman out”
And by “the dems”, of course you mean the voters of Connecticut who voted for Ned Lamont? Lieberman left the Dems in a hissy fit. Not to mention that he was (and still is) way too hawkish.

As is Joe Lieberman.
May 3rd, 2009 at 8:26 pmArlen Specter is a DINO-SAUR***, and like all DINO-SAURs will someday be extinct.
***Democrat In Name Only, Stupidly Asinine Useless Republican.
May 3rd, 2009 at 8:44 pmSpecter is a bit like the magic bullet he is famous for – this way, then that way, then around this loophole and out.
May 3rd, 2009 at 8:51 pmLieberman II exactly. The DNC and Obama and Biden and Reid have made a deal to support this clown for what? His support of drinking fountains on the democratic side of the senate? Bend over some more DNC.
I agree with other comments that I will not continue to support the DNC if Spector is allowed to vote against health care reform, and surely he will talk loud and long about the worthiness of Obama’s SCOTUS nominee, then vote against her.
We need two new parties–throw all these bums out. Hate to say it, but the president needs to wake up. The long knives are out and they will be used to our detriment.
May 3rd, 2009 at 9:17 pmSpector’s like me…He’s an old white man.
Here is a good spec for a new, younger Democrat to differentiate them from Republicans: don’t tell flagrant and obvious lies in public about important matters! I don’t care about your infidelities or your drinking habits or your hair plugs if they don’t affect your work. But, lying on camera about a vote or a position stated on camera two days ago? No matter how cynical the audience is, you have to be media-savvy enough to understand how stupid you look doing this.
May 3rd, 2009 at 9:49 pmSpecter says he is not a loyal democrat, but he has all the actions of a typical democrat. He will do anything, anything, absolutely anything for a vote.

We are so lucky to have KPOJ and Carl Wolfson on from 6am-9am pacific M-F, is the best… maybe even better than Thom Hartmann. When I get a chance to listen, he is always mentioning TP and has even read some of the posts.
Many listeners on the internet calling in from other states.

Specter is just as credible as his magic bullet theory.

May 3rd, 2009 at 10:09 pmSo you find it a valid comparison to equate “loyal” Democrat with “typical” Democrat?
Not seeing it, sorry. They are two entirely different things. For one thing, Democrats tend to act much less beholden to party loyalty than do Republicans. hence, a “typical” Democrat is hardly a “loyal” Democrat.
And you say “he has all the actions of a typical democrat. He will do anything, anything, absolutely anything for a vote” This makes him different from the Republican he was, exactly how?

If that were true, he’d have switched from Democrat to Republican, doofus.

Well then, how can I leave on this note?>
Specter has to evolve his stances on certain things or he’ll be crushed in the next primary still. Also, if he’s going to oppose these things, he should at least explain exactly why. Also, I recommend all PA residents out there to mail or e-mail Specter’s office, pressuring him to change his political stances on certain policies. Let yourself be heard.

Specter is 80 years old moron, I mean really are you really that dumb to think would “evolve” on issues?
When did you last meet an 80 year old white guy that was evolving?
Now thanks for playing moron, you have been weighed, measured and found lacking.
Thanks for playing moron no go away

Pretty please, would you mind leaving?
May 3rd, 2009 at 11:32 pmI would certainly hope the most important committee assignment promised was the special sub committee overseeing notsomuch.

May 4th, 2009 at 12:54 amLet me get this straight, he started Democrat became Republican and now back to the Democratic party, what I don’t have straight is why we do not have term limits to keep delusional people such as this from serving our country?
May 4th, 2009 at 4:23 ami am watching the history channel – which i never watch – program about appalachia, ‘hillbillies’… fascinating… really.
but i can’t help thinking – knowing – that this rendition will inspire another round of southern pride… not the good kind…

Considering that it was posted on this site, then yes, it is a sample. It is likely not a representative sample.
Did you find it offensive, and if so, why?
May 4th, 2009 at 9:15 amDC is the original old boys club. Specter’s legacy will foolishly be protected by the sometimes not so bright democratic party. For this I am very angry with Obama and the democrats! They should financially back ANY real democratic candidate 100% in the Pennsylvania primary in 2010 for the senate, not some 79 year old bucket of puss who only cares about continuing his run as a US senator.
May 4th, 2009 at 11:18 amWhy do people accuse Specter of jumping loyalties? He is an unswerving supporter of AIPAC and Israel. That will never change.
May 4th, 2009 at 11:24 amFirst He did then He didn’t funny.
May 4th, 2009 at 12:16 pmDon’t worry Arlen. After watching this man as a Republican shift and turn etc I certainly don’t. Even when he spoke saying this or that should be done, he still ended up voting the party line. His switch is one of expediency. It always is. And at his advanced age, it is all he knows.
He has always said the thing to get along and go along. He is a Joe Lieberman. He is a Dianne Feinstein. He wears the wrong coat. This man is a walking corpse. His real party is a group of the walking dead. They deserve each other. Too bad we are now stuck with this clown.
May 4th, 2009 at 4:34 pmI’m glad he came over to our side, simply for the numbers, but Jeez Louise, is he as brain dead as the rest of the Republicans????
New Invention Senator – you might want to check it out – it’s called VIDEO TAPE!!!!!
May 4th, 2009 at 5:01 pmArlen Sphintor is only loyal to himself.
May 5th, 2009 at 7:03 pmNow you all know why the Republicans partied after he finally switched to the Dems! He is a spineless man with no convictions. I’m glad he’s gone from the Republican party. Now, McCain please follow…
May 6th, 2009 at 10:59 pmI would not trust this guy. Seems to me that good ole Sen. Arlen Specter has a plan. Seeing as how he figures he will lose as a Republican, he decides to be a Democrat, where he figures people tired of the “Party Of No” will pick a Democrat. Now if this was to work out ole Arlen’s way, I would bet a pretty penny that has soon as he won the election, he would change his spots again and switch back over to the Republican side.
May 7th, 2009 at 3:23 pmA major conflict is undoubtedly brewing between President Obama and the egomaniacal, tempestuous Congressman Joe Sestak. Obama has welcomed Specter into the Democratic Party, and has clearly indicated that he will support Specter’s re-election quest. But Sestak has shown utter disdain for both the Democratic Party and the White House. He attaches more importance to the satisafction of his ambitions than to the well-being of the Democratic Party. Sestak has made a grave mistake. He will surely feel the White House’s wrath…soon.
