Romney spokesman on Steele: ‘Sometimes when you shoot from the hip, you miss the target.’

Last week, ThinkProgress reported that while guest-hosting Bill Bennett’s radio show on Friday, RNC chair Michael Steele appeared to call the GOP base bigoted, saying that Republican voters rejected Mitt Romney’s presidential bid because he is Mormon:

But remember, it was the base that rejected Mitt because of his switch on pro-life, from pro-choice to pro-life. It was the base that rejected Mitt because it had issues with Mormonism.

Listen here:

Today, Romney’s team fired back. “Sometimes when you shoot from the hip, you miss the target,” said spokesman Eric Ferhnstrom. “This is one of those times.” At RealClearPolitics, Jay Cost also said that Steele should resign, and RedState’s Erick Erickson responded, “I vote ‘no confidence’ in Michael Steele.”

    Oh, damn – UNDERSTATEMENT much??

    *snicker*

  2. hormiga brava chavez says:

Well Steele gets what he deserves if he’s willing to play himself as a token for the GOP. He’s getting no love at all.

  3. raynman says:

Wow, progressives need to just sit back and enjoy the show. The right wing is destroying itself all on its own.

Sums up the last 8-years of Chimpy and Chainy. Why change now? It worked SOOOOOO well. /snark

When Mitt is leveling the verbal damage on high, your 15 minutes are up.

  7. wiley says:

It’s hard to tell who shot up the neighborhood the most. I don’t think they know what the target is, but they’re doing a great job of making the target smaller.

“Today we have a new policy set by our new president. We have a new strategy, a new mission and a new ambassador,” Gates said. “I believe that new military leadership also is needed.”

Would it help if we all go troll some GNOP sites and post positive stuff about Steele? Because I just don’t want to see this guy go away.

    We like Mike!

    PEACE

  11. Jackie says:

Steele is a joke and Mitt can’t replace Republican Leader Rush Limbaugh. Now talk about change if the Christian Base turns to Mitt the Mormon as their leader. Yes Mitt would love to lead the Mormons to the White House and approve of men having many wives as servants. Next Mitt would line the Supreme Court with Mormon Justices and well forget the US Constitution. Remember how the Mormon Religion started with a strange man who was the only one who saw what he said happen while others blindly followed. No need to look to the bible with President Mitt.

  12. dhampton100 says:

Michael Steele has to shoot from the hip because he doesn’t have a brain in his head….he is doing the best he can….poor useful idiot!

  13. J. Fred Smug says:

I can’t believe I’m going to write this, but I almost felt a bit sorry for Michael Steele earlier today. I read that he had actually dared to SMILE when Wanda Sykes made her joke about Sarah Palin and abstinence at the WHC dinner last Saturday night, and Michael Steel was being called on the carpet by some rightwing nutjobs for doing so.

Did I clarify that I almost felt sorry for Michael Steele? Good, because that’s what I meant.

  14. Badger1 says:

If they announced a new Commander in Afghanistan about an hour ago, does that mean kkklannity and FoxNews announced about 55 minutes ago that Uhmerika has “surrendered” to the evil-doers?
    Just wait–it’s coming!
When reached for comment Rush Limbaugh said “I thought I gave instructions for Steele to sit in the back of the bus! Just a minute, I have to talk to my secretary. HEY SUGARBUMPS, HAUL THAT SWEET SWEET ASS IN HERE! Call Gingrich and Ailes and tell them there BOSS is on the line and would like some answers!”
    That’s what I heard anyway!

  15. Ape-Man says:

    @11 Jackie Says:

For me the Mormon religion started when strange men came into my living romm to try to convert my grandmother. Eventually they took advantage of her hospitality and we had to stop letting them in.

I have no doubt they are still at it.

  16. Game of Life says:

    HAHAHAHA

teabagger repugs have their teabags in a twist because steeley damn said he and President Obama are brothers.

    HAHAHAHAHAHA

  17. paleolib says:

Funny, I thought the goopers turned away from Mittens because even that gullible herd decided he was a sleazy, insincere, unprincipled hack attempting to run his more or less moderate record through a shredder to pass himself off as a frothing winger. He should probably thank Steele for giving him cover.

  18. Game of Life says:

Isn’t it against the law to have a host of a media vehicle rooting for the US failure and claiming to be the head of the repug party.

    It’s like a non-stop bullshit feast for the tard-tards.

Isn’t it like a 24 hour campaign commerical?

  19. makete says:

katy, do you think that had anything to do with the deaths of all those civilians? And the phosphoresce(?) bombs?

  20. makete says:

Jackie Says:Remember how the Mormon Religion started with a strange man who was the only one who saw what he said happen while others blindly followed. No need to look to the bible with President Mitt………………………………………Doesnt this sound like the other religions?

  21. Luis Chapulin M says:

Romney spokesman on Steele: ‘Sometimes when you shoot from the hip, you miss the target.’

“Sometimes”? I dunno, he seems to be hitting his foot every single time… that’s pretty good accuracy right there.

  22. Mathazar says:

Say what you will about Mormonism, the repubs have always been able to count on their votes. Should they decide to take
Steele’s comment to heart, perhaps they’ll decide to exit that
    big tent as well.

  23. Rodeskawler says:

Who let the dogs out, Mitt?

  24. Wiz says:

Oh my don’t we just love these little Repub party fights? Comparatively speaking Romney is a moderate who tried to look like a conservative and the Repubs did not buy it, for reasons that Steele is probably right about. Now Steele has rubbed it into Romney’s face. Will Romney do a Specter and leave the party? Cheney just told Colin Powell to take a walk from the GOP. The GOP is shrinking daily, pretty soon all that will be left is a couple of guys sitting around a trailer park listening to Rush on the radio.

  26. dbadass says:

I am quessing that sesli is a noun and chat and sohbet are verbs…Still how the space or lack of space changes the meaning is mystifying to me? Are any of you folks linguists?

Is this one of these languages that has 35 words and pronunciation for porn?

  27. wiley says:

    According to the Turkish/English translator

sesli adj. vocal, voiced, noisy, sounding, sonant, vowel, vociferous

    n. sound, voice, noise, tone, cry, call, shout, clatter, sonance, vocal, vox

    chat means chat

    sohbet means chat

  28. dbadass says:

okay so what about the all one word versus two words thing? Does that change the meaning in anyway? Is that like some sort of code shit or what?

  29. wiley says:

Hey, it’s not porn. It looks like personal ads for Muslims.

Who ? Military age came despite gecmesine vatani who fled service and these holy office in the style of insulting language stretching, Village and the family live in addition …

Sure a lot was lost in the translation, but if there is porn involved, they definitely have to whip out a credit card before they even think of getting started.

I’m a little miffed at my presumptuous, but I will say, in my defense, that most inexplicable, bot-like postings are pornspam or spamspam.

  30. wiley says:

    It’s still spam, though.
