While many Republicans are trying to ditch the legacy of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, one pundit is still clinging to the previous administration. In a column today titled “Don’t Wince. Fight!,” Bill Kristol offers a full-throated defense of Cheney, writing that Republicans cringing at the re-emergence of the former vice president have a “juvenile understanding of political dynamics.” Kristol then prescribes that to regain power, the GOP needs to embrace Bush’s policies and listen to Cheney:
The real question any Republican strategist should ask himself is this: What will Republican chances be in 2012 if voters don’t remember the Bush administration–however problematic in other areas–as successful in defending the country after 9/11? To give this issue away would be to accept a post-Herbert-Hoover-like-fate for today’s GOP. That’s why Republicans should listen carefully when Cheney gives a speech this week in which he’ll lay out the case for the surveillance, detention, and interrogation policies of the Bush administration in the war against terror.
Kristol concludes, “Dick Cheney probably won’t be the glamour quarterback of the Republican comeback. But he’s proving to be a heck of a middle linebacker.” Those considering taking the advice of the Kristol Ball should check out his July 2007 op-ed on “Why Bush Will Be A Winner.”
This coming from the Oracle of the the GOP who has never been right about ANYTHING!

May 15th, 2009 at 7:36 pmThat’s a laughable comment coming from the Most Valuable Neocon. It should be no surprise that Kristol would want to draw attention away from himself and onto Cheney, though both have done more than enough to keep Republicans on the fringes for a long time.
May 15th, 2009 at 7:37 pmKristol (R-Israel) doesn’t give a damn about America or Americans.
Kristol’s official title is “Propaganda Minister – State of Israel”.
May 15th, 2009 at 7:38 pmThey always claim they kept us safe — avoiding the obvious –that 9/11 happened on their watch – after they ignored intel warnings, and after they ignored previous administration officials begging them to listen to their warnings.
When the first WTC was bombed in Clinton’s first month, he didn’t blame Bush I. Instead his administration captured the perpetrators, and he kept our soil safe for his term.
Not only did the willful arrogance of Bush II lead to disaster, his henchmen and cronies are trying to incite another incident to “prove” them as the only source of national protection.
May 15th, 2009 at 7:38 pmComing from Kristol, this means absolutely nothing.

.
May 15th, 2009 at 7:45 pmYet us examine the case of former Vice President Dick Cheney. He kept very quiet when the Republicans in Florida stole the 2000 Presidential Election. Team player or traitor to democracy? You decide.
Dick Cheney has yet to explain his very odd actions on nine-nine and nine-ten which led to the biggest terrorist attack in the history of the world on nine-eleven.
Dick Cheney seems to have been involved in the public outing of an undercover CIA agent: this is a felony crime.
Dick Cheney has profited from his connection with Halliburton Corporation, which owns KBR, which built 12 or 12 showers in Iraq in which American military servicemen were electrocuted to death.
All of the activities of former Vice President Dick Cheney need to be publicly investigated.

May 15th, 2009 at 7:51 pmI really do think Rush has been sharing his oxcycotins with many members of the Republican party. It is impossible for all of these people to get all of these facts so wrong. They are not getting them wrong. Instead, they want us to believe this crap and give their political partners a free pass. Personally, I continue to believe this trick will not succeed. We need patience and lots of it in order to make it to the conclusion of this huge mess. These are crooks and as unappetizing as this exercise is going to be-we must do it. We must not forget our children are watching us. They are looking for a line-where should they draw it when they become our leaders. We owe them to STAND UP for what is right, no matter how painful it is going to be. We are a country of laws and No one is above the law.

May 15th, 2009 at 7:54 pm“Enhanced interrogation techniques” was a phrase first coined by the GESTAPO, many members of which went onto fame and glory, and being tried and convicted for war crimes at Nuremberg.
So, certain Republicans in the Bush/Cheney administration decided to dust off the Gestapo’s “enhanced interrogation techniques” phraseology in an attempt, apparently, to “soften” the Gestapo torture practices, for propaganda purposes, that these Republicans had authorized to be used against detainees around the world.
And as suspected by many, the Republican-implemented Gestapo-style “enhanced interrogation techniques” weren’t used just to elicit information from detainees about potential terrorist plots against the United States, but were employed, for instance, in 2002 to get detainees to confess that there existed a solid operational and strategic link between Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi Baathist regime and al Qaeda (to justify Bush’s and Cheney’s lust for invading Iraq), while after March 2003, detainees were tortured in Iraq to get them to confess 1) where Hussein and his sons were, since they initially escaped capture, 2) where Hussein’s massive stockpiles of WMD were located, along with any information about his nuclear program, plus 3) anything Iraqi detainees knew about Hussein’s contacts with al Qaeda.
So, George W. Bush and Dick Cheney (in collusion with a bunch of similarly nutty neo-con Republicans) will be remembered for embracing Gestapo torture policies, practices and terminology. And maybe instead of Nuremberg, someday we can hold the war crimes trials of these culture of corruption Republicans at Williamsburg.
May 15th, 2009 at 7:55 pmHow much did Cheney pay Kristol or “tortured” Kristol to make such a “foolish” comment for a person who had 5 deferments and broke the law?
All of this must be an “extreme” high for Cheney, he’s getting off on all of this.
May 15th, 2009 at 7:56 pmI would agree that Cheney is the most valuable Republican. Of course valuable is a relative term, one man’s gold is another’s garbage. My value of Cheney is about like a used car salesman on a junker lot. He is still trying to peddle the crap he sold for 8 years, but we are no longer buying.

HAHA – good luck with that theory Kristol! I don’t think people will have fond memories of the Bush Crime Family for many, many years to come.
After the first Bush, I thought people would have been sick of the bushies – apparently not! I can only hope that people don’t forget these last horrible 8-years. I hope that this generation will remind newer generations about the BushCo crime family. A vetting process for president should be, “Do you have any ties to Bush or his friends?” If the answer is yes – FAIL!

May 15th, 2009 at 10:26 pmWilliam Kristol is, at his core, a frightened little boy. He’s afraid of what someone might do to him, not what anyone realistically will do. And because he is so scared, he wants to do everything imaginable, even violence, to stop his imaginary threats. In his continuous state of fear, he is incapable of rational thought. For that reason, he should be publicly ignored until he can get the help he so desperately needs.
You need help, Bill. You really do.
May 15th, 2009 at 10:28 pmWhen Kristol says “Republicans”, he means “Neocons”. By that measure, Cheney is the big dog.

clue
May 15th, 2009 at 10:51 pmBill Kristol just outlined the Republicans entire purpose, they want to resume power in 2012, and they will use any means to achieve that goal. The idea that some how they can cast Cheney/Bush in a “different light” shows just how delusional they have become. I can’t help to think the country is not their top priority. The Republicans are in for a lesson in honesty. The truth is hard to spin around.
May 15th, 2009 at 10:57 pmThe Democratic party is far from perfect, but the GOoP defines the term “epic, devastating fail.” The fact that they listen to war criminals like Cheney is one proof of that.
May 15th, 2009 at 11:01 pmYou are so right flight! I’ve no clue why these people think a new ad campaign or clever slogan will make them relavent to voters again.I think folk are looking for substance now, not clever packaging.
May 15th, 2009 at 11:04 pmOutstanding,
The thing the Repukes count on is that people slip back into old habits — and they are right to do so.
When the economy continues to go south, because that’s the way things so huge work, they will turn away from their own best interests, and back to their hateful little safe place — under the wing of Bill O’Reilly and Rush Limbaugh.

Here’s one of my favorite Billy prophesies:
Bill Kristol March 17 2003
“We are tempted to comment, in these last days before the war, on the U.N., and the French, and the Democrats. But the war itself will clarify who was right and who was wrong about weapons of mass destruction. It will reveal the aspirations of the people of Iraq, and expose the truth about Saddam’s regime. It will produce whatever effects it will produce on neighboring countries and on the broader war on terror. We would note now that even the threat of war against Saddam seems to be encouraging stirrings toward political reform in Iran and Saudi Arabia, and a measure of cooperation in the war against al Qaeda from other governments in the region. It turns out it really is better to be respected and feared than to be thought to share, with exquisite sensitivity, other people’s pain. History and reality are about to weigh in, and we are inclined simply to let them render their verdicts.”

At least I have a sense of humor to make crazy posts that mock all of this insanity that you cant change and never will be able to

I am still a sexist pig of a homophobe b/c I am not gay. Dont give a cr*p about gays and I am a sexist pig b/c unlike you, I have game and get la*d!
So chew on that sally!
Obviously you know I am the most popular poster on this website. You cant help but respond to yours truly. And, yeah, why not hijack threads?
I mean, the echo chamber of just saying how Republicans are evil. Well what fun is reading 1000 posts saying the same thing?
Might as well spice it up. Litte this, little that. BAM, like Emeril says.
I mean, I can join in lockstep and say. REpugnicans are evil. But that limits my creativity. I mean you ALL say that. Kinda pointless actually unless this is your therapy session on the internet.

May 16th, 2009 at 1:50 amSo once again he forgets about the Anthrax attacks or is it because the right wing nut jobs did it themselves and you can`t forget that two democratic Senators were the targets of the Anthrax attacks after 9-11 just when they were to vote no on the Patriot Act.We will never forget whose watch 9-11 happened on, never.

I think the wingnuts did the anthrax attack and 9/11. Cheney was the director. Call me a moonbat but this rabbit hole goes deep. They’ll be trying to sick Jeb Bush on us in 2012. May 16th, 2009 at 2:24 amNo thanks for Dick Cheney also brought to the Republican Party ignorance and self indulgence.
The American people are fed up with a Bush Administration that bought with it ruination of a once Grand Ole Party. The Fat Cats are still sucking off the tits of the lost.
I’m happy to see them cringe now when Obama tells them he is taking back there booty of theft from the taxpayers. They have been out of control for so long and now all of a sudden they have a conscience. I was once a Republican, when I thought it stood for the American people and not the wealthy of the land. Under Bush we got war and debt. Under Obama we get war and debt. Is everyone just blind to the fact that America is without a Leader.
Republicans those of you that believe this nonsense will find you are still in the wilderness being lead like lambs to the slaughter house and this PIG Cheney has little to offer you but what he has already given to you, Loss of trust and coherency for your Party.
I’m proud to be an Independent and am not pressure to obey the party hierarchy. I vote for the best person when I go to the poll. May 16th, 2009 at 6:01 amKristol: ‘Dick Cheney, Most Valuable Republican.’
… for Democrats.
May 16th, 2009 at 7:37 amThe funny thing is (okay, perhaps funny isn’t the right word…) if Cheney had faded into obscurity like Bush seems to have done, little or none of this torture debate would have heated up as it has. Obama made it clear that, despite what We the People seem to want, he wanted to look forward, not back.
But Cheney’s insistence on being front and center, on going on show after show making dubious or flat out false claims, and for touting torture as both legal and necessary, has placed the prior administration’s actions into a spotlight that can’t be turned off on Obama’s say so.
So when Cheney lands in front of a Grand Jury and winds up in a prison cell with his buddies, he has no one to blame but himself.
I honestly can’t figure out the logic behind Cheney’s actions. But then again, I never could.
PEACE
May 16th, 2009 at 7:55 amKristol loves Cheney who excuted the NeoCons plan very well.
A plan which called for invading Iraq and toppling Sadddam written by Kristol NeoCon founder in 1998…under [The Clean Break- A New Strategy For Securing The Realm].
The plan was represented to Israeli prime minister then, Natanyahu about securing Israel, and toppling Saddam was one of the elements of Kristol and Neocons plan which Cheney later excuted happily for Neocons .
Of course Dick Cheney to Kristol is the ‘Most Valuable Republican’. !
May 16th, 2009 at 8:37 amDick Cheney has to go on his roadshow, Spencer’s Mom, because he knows he’s committed war crimes and needs to put his Big Lies out there in the hopes they catch on! Of course, as you pointed out, he’s sinking himself, but that’s okay….we are dreaming of this man being in prison for the rest of his life! Hey, if he’s tortured…who cares! He loves the idea of torture and by torturing him it would make our nation safe, because Cheney pointed out awhile back that his next attack on America would be nuclear. Torture that man before it’s too late!
May 16th, 2009 at 8:39 amIt appears the Dick(head Cheney ordered torture not to keep this country safe but to extract false information to promote the completely illegal Botch War in Iraq.
He should be arrested and sent to The Hague. He wasn’t facing a “ticking time bomb” scenario. He was cooking up facts, just like over at the CIA.
This crimnal bastard must be tried for war crimes, murder and crimes against humanity. If this country can’t do that, then this country can’t do sh|t!!!

May 16th, 2009 at 9:48 amFlag the ignorant namejacking troll. Far too ignorant and sad to be aknowledged
May 16th, 2009 at 9:48 amI think there’s more than enough evidence to support the fact that Kristol is the one with the “juevenile understanding of political dynamics”. The man’s been wrong about every major issue the last 8 years.
May 16th, 2009 at 9:58 amHilarious!
Dick is trying to save his hide through commendations of Kristol, a proven ideologue and astronomical loser in his predictions.
The GOPiggies can’t bring out the Chimperor or Karl Rabies due to their toxicity. But they want to use the Dick as if he has any credibility.
Yes. There is a logic to this tactic. Personally the Dick has absolutely nothing to lose by going out on campaign and attack mode against the Dems and President Obama, especially portraying them as weak on national defense, weak on the “war on terrah” and “out of control government spending”
The Dick didn’t have to balls to serve in VietNam.
May 16th, 2009 at 10:05 amNow he is making sure the S.S. Sinking GOPiggies at least save something, anything, so his epitaph car read “5 Courageous Deferments and never had any shame defending the GOPiggies”
How can anyone believe anything that comes from the mouth of William Kristol who is a founding member of the PNAC along with Robert Kagan. As well he also signed the letter from the PNAC in 1998 sent to then President Bill Clinton to take out Saddam Hussein by military force.
Source: http://www.newamericancentury.org/iraqclintonletter.htm
He supports Dick Cheney for one reason and one reason only as the coward Dick Cheney is as well a member of the PNAC as well as Donald Rumsfeld, Jeb Bush, Paul Wolfowitz and others.
Source: http://www.newamericancentury.org/statementofprinciples.htm
The PNAC are the criminals behind starting the War in Iraq based on known lies and actually the PNAC are only doing the dirty work for Israel in the Middle East. They all need to be brought before the courts and sentenced to life imprisonment or to death if need be as they are nothing but war criminals and cowards who find it easier to put other lives at risk then their own.

And in other, war-ciminal-related news, Holder throws some wood on the War Crimes Tribunal fire:
In speaking to reporters Wednesday, Holder also said it is possible the United States could cooperate with a foreign court’s investigation of Bush administration officials.
Holder spoke before the announcement that a Spanish magistrate had opened an investigation of Bush officials on harsh interrogation methods. Holder didn’t rule out cooperating in such a probe.
“Obviously, we would look at any request that would come from a court in any country and see how and whether we should comply with it,” Holder said.
“This is an administration that is determined to conduct itself by the rule of law and to the extent that we receive lawful requests from an appropriately created court, we would obviously respond to it,” he said.
Pressed on whether that meant the United States would cooperate with a foreign court prosecuting Bush administration officials, Holder said he was talking about evidentiary requests and would review any such request to see if the U.S. would comply.
The first step in prosecutions are evidentiary hearings, so Holder’s caveat could just be a linear one, meaning one step at a time, as it were.

Obama Taps GOP’s Huntsman for China Envoy Post
Huntsman is actually a pretty good guy. The GOP hates him for his moderate position. He supports gay marriage and makes an issue about global warming. He also has many other moderate view on things.
My only problem with this appointment is that Obama is taking a moderate Republican Governor out of the picture and Huntsman will be replaced by a conservative. That what he did in Arizona. I wonder why he keeps doing this.
Lieutenant Governor Gary Herbert is considerably more conservative than Huntsman.

May 16th, 2009 at 12:11 pmFraming the argument for torture (war crimes).
Thanks to another TP user, I did some research on Framing an argument. Here’s the jist.
The NeoCons objective is to change the frame around the subject torture to something more acceptable to their base and others who may be unable to see through their framing tactics. Once a framing word takes hold over the actual internal framed word, the subject has been reframed. Here’s what I’ve seen so far. Note that the word inside the frame never changes, only the frame word.

I agree with Bill.
Cheney is the best the GOP has. It isn’t Newt, Palin or Jindal thats for sure.
Texas Gov Perry’s desires to break away from the U.S.A. will really go far in a GOP primary. Although not very far in a General election.
Cheney has got to be the essence of the GOP as Rush is.
Now if you think as a Republican this is favorable to any viable candidate aspirations with the same views of yours making any political election gains in the future. You should understand that that same Wall Street mentality of recklessness in the GOP does not and will not qualify for a bail out as it fails.
