New GOP chief counsel on Senate Judiciary Committee linked gay marriage to pedophilia.

Last week, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) named William Smith as the chief counsel for the GOP on the Senate Judiciary Committee. David Ingram of Legal Times reports today that Smith recently compared support for same-sex marriage to support for pedophilia. In a blog post that has now been taken down, Smith responded to former McCain campaign manager Steve Schmidt’s speech to the Log Cabin Republicans by writing that he wondered “if next week Schmidt will take his close minded stump speech to a NAMBLA meeting. For those unfamiliar with NAMBLA, the acronym is for North American Man Boy Love Association.” Smith also compared same-sex marriage to bestiality. Neither he nor Sessions responded to Legal Times.

    And this is surprising how?

Darryll?? Concern trolls?? You all eat this kind of stuff up. Anytime a troll gets to admit the fear of teh gay, they start salivating at their keyboards.

  3. Buckie Boy says:

Wow, these Republic Fascist Party members sure think about gay sex, pedophilla and bestiality alot…

    ….wonder why that is?

Oh my!!! Never mind…it’s what they do.

Children cant get married in the USA ya big sillies.

Republican Party leader Bobby Stumbo was arrested for having sex with a 5-year old boy.

Stumbo was in a gay marriage?

  6. Marie says:

Sessions appointed him – do we need to know any more?
The repugs have an unhealthy and perverted obsession with sex.

  7. Xisithrus says:

    Okay, who supported Stumbo?

  8. Marie says:

OT – sorry. But this is maddening. After their conciliatory meeting two weeks ago with Obama.
The Washington Post is now reporting that insurance giant Blue Cross Blue Shield “is putting the finishing touches on a public message campaign aimed at killing a key plank in Obama’s reform platform.”
The Huffington Post sums it up as “Insurers Planning on Double-Crossing Obama.”

  9. spencers mom says:

I link BushCo, and by extension the entire GNOP, with murderers, serial killers and genocidal maniacs, not to mention thieves, ponzi schemers and pathological liars.

    So there you go.

  10. Hoodathunktick says:

Sorry but I am confused. Why do Republicans get to appoint anything other than bathroom attendant?

IIRC something about them having a 1.3 billion cash reserve while paying their CEO millions and RAISING premiums. This is supposed to be a non-profit organization

  12. Hoodathunktick says:

Xisthrus, some nonprofits pay their officers in relation to the degree they support the nonprofits agenda.

    Actually, most of them do.

Republican Mayor Philip Giordano is serving a 37-year sentence in federal prison for sexually abusing 8- and 10-year old girls.

Silly me. I always thought that thinking in an inclusive manner was open minded.

We need to stop letting these morons redefined our words.

  15. sacopenapa says:

TP, gay issues are always be controvertial and be subject of passionet support or opposition.
However, Obama’s administration this week has been doing shocking things regarding the War escalation, prisioners abuse which are still occuring in Guantanamo bay, Millions of dollars waisted in a failed foreingner policy, asking for more millons of dollars for a new military base in Colobia, where the US still supports a criminal regime… there are so many other issues that require the left, the liberals and supporter of true democracy, urgent attention… please, be more selective of your priorities regarding the WAR.
It is not Bush’s War anymore, it is OBAMA’s WAR. Obama’s cumplicity in War Crimes. Many civilians in Afehganistan and Pakistan are dead now. All under Obama/Gates/Democrats policies.
Don’t waist space with Perino, gay and abortion issues, while the US still ‘Staying the disastrous course!’

Hopefully the taxpayers — for the sake of the little girls. ;)

  17. sscncturn64 says:

Does it ever end with the rightwingnuts. Pedophiles are very sick people who cant be rehabilitated. Gays are two people that are in love and want to marry. I think the most fcked up thing is that most repugs are religious, and How many times have we heard about priests molesting little boys. If you were to take all the money that churches have paid out in lawsuites because of the pedophiles in the churches then we could pay down the national debt. Repugs you know that debt that your hero Bush left for PRESIDENT OBAMA.

  18. wolfsinger says:

This move by Sessions just proves that Overlord Limbaugh has the Republicans by the short and curlies and he has no intention of letting go.

All the better as the self immolation of the Republican brand continues to go up in flames.

That said, I’ve been watching politics long enough to know that there is no disaster made by the Republicans that is so awful that the ConservaDems can’t make better for them and worse for Progressives. You watch. It will by Bayh and Nelson to the rescue for the Republicans.

  19. Xisithrus says:

I agree HTT, but why would a non-profit reverse itself?

  20. Hope says:

The Log Cabins have known this for how many years and are still members of the GOP? Pertaining to the current GOP leaders (not Steele, he’s just a puppet), they want to weed out all undesirables (their opinion) and make the GOP party the party of total conservatism and total right wing religious closed minded people who spew hatred, lies, violence against you if you don’t agree with them.

Last I heard, America is a Democracy.

Xisithrus, the Blues have been operating under the “not for profit” sham while behaving exactly like Cigna, Aetna, etc., the for-profits for years.

I’ve done consulting within several Blues organizations, and you would never know you were in a non-profit office by the opulence and amenities.

All the private insurers are scared shitless, but it appears that Candidate Obama is going to fold under the pressure of “not to soon to think of the next election cycle” President Obama. I’m too old to have been fooled into thinking that change would really come at the expense of powerful industries.

    PEACE

  25. amish_edison says:

Wouldn’t it be more logical, after the Mark Foley House of Representatives Page Program scandal, to link pedophilia with the GOP rather than with gays? Or have they conveniently forgotten those gleaming examples of Republican values?

You know this reminds somewhat of something I recently read about crappy loans but also concerning executive compensation:

Former banking regulator William Black described the process:

“The way that you do it is to make really bad loans, because they pay better. Then you grow extremely rapidly, in other words, you’re a Ponzi-like scheme. And the third thing you do is we call it leverage. That just means borrowing a lot of money, and the combination creates a situation where you have guaranteed record profits in the early years. That makes you rich, through the bonuses that modern executive compensation has produced. It also makes it inevitable that there’s going to be a disaster down the road.”

  27. misscoleopteramolly says:

I’m sure that William Smith’s somewhat narrow view is what appealed to Sessions in the first place. And using lawyers that adhere to the same sort of bigotry won’t do much to enhance the GOP in the eyes of the people they need to attract if they’re going to rebuild their party.

Both Sessions and Smith should have listened to Schmidt’s speech (or at least read a transcript of it). But since they just dismiss it as some sort of pervert screed, they’ll deserve it when they sink with the ship.

But I do have a question — why do the Republicans on the Judiciary Committee need their own lawyer (bought and paid for by us)? Just to find more legal ways to obstruct any progress?

  31. FaireMaiden says:

This guy, and these people (loosely-termed, of course), are just plain SICK ****S!

I’m still bewildered as to how these cretinous wankers get into positions of power, how they get a microphone, how they manage to tie their shoelaces.

How can the corridors of power be so riddled with the kind of INSANITY that this freak exhibits? and their APPALLINGLY INSANE VIEWPOINTS be even REMOTELY considered at all?

  32. Game of Life says:

Yep, keep on looking forward, teabaggers.

  33. Mathazar says:

So I guess that according to Smith, around 99% of the people on this blog support pedophilia.

Wow. I never knew I was such a pervert.

I think this new political environment provides a great opportunity to address crucial issues that have been forgotten. The U.S. should be doing way more to address the Millennium Development Goals. The plan to end world hunger has been getting seriously ignored.

    $550 billion: U.S. Defense budget.

  36. Hoodathunktick says:

Pardon my french but screw world hunger. If the one country that has a possibility of being concerned about it can’t take care of it’s own, starving people had best learn to fend for themselves.

Amazing. Dawn Johnsen is unfit to head the OLC because she was active in an abortion rights group and cannot be trusted to provide impartial counsel. Another example of the GOP holding itself to another standard (a lower one I might add) than that which it seeks to impose on the Executive Branch.
